We arrived 7 minutes late to the appointment because I got turned around trying to find the office. For anyone unfamiliar with the location, it is inside the Safeway shopping center, and if you drive past the entrance, getting turned back around is not particularly easy. My daughter and I hurried upstairs as quickly as we could. At the front desk, I was told the office has a 5-minute grace period, meaning we were 2 minutes past it. The staff member was kind enough to check with the doctor, but the doctor declined to see us. I completely understand that medical practices need policies around lateness, and I would understand if we had arrived so late that seeing us would significantly disrupt the schedule. But we were 7 minutes late. There was no one sitting in the waiting room, and I had pulled my daughter out of school and taken time away from work for this appointment. I would have expected at least some consideration of the circumstances, even if it meant shortening our own appointment time. What bothered me most wasn't that there was a policy. It was the complete lack of flexibility or compassion in how it was applied. When I am choosing the people who will be responsible for my child's healthcare, compassion matters to me just as much as efficiency and policy. Unfortunately, this first interaction left me feeling that this was not the kind of care environment I want for my daughter. So, despite really hoping to establish care closer to home, it looks like we'll be going back to the Peninsula and making the hour-long drive. :/

For a doctor, she could have at least been professional and not just walk out the door rudely. It's important to control your emotions and understand from a parent's view. If you decide to take your child here, make sure the staff members wash their hands. You never see them put on gloves, so you can't tell if they're using the same ones on their previous patients. Also, don't hesitate to ask the staff to wear masks too. Breathing on your child can pass on germs. Anyway, may this place improve since the lives of children are important. And should be more important than money, but who knows.
