I went in for hair color Saturday expecting a relaxing salon experience, not to be tormented by the owner's political rantings. When I asked her to stop trashing her president, she barked that if I didn't like it--or if I support our current "Dictator"--I should leave and not come back. She also over processed my hair due to her not paying attention while ranting and irritated my scalp. I left in tears with a sore scalp. No phone call later asking how I was either!!! This wasn't the first time I've ever experienced her extreme politics..but this time was the worst and it left me very uncomfortable. The shop is unkempt as is she. The constant receptionist turnover is now explained!! has to be difficult to work with her. Perspective clients..Toxic & unwelcoming. *** Update: the owner Lillian never called me to check on how my scalp was after she put ammonia based product on my head without my consent. I just had the most amazing experience with Tammy & Lillian. I live out of state and needed a wig highlighted. I mailed it to them, they added highlights and sent me pictures. I felt they were too orange/bronze and not red enough. They toned them down and sent new pictures. They did an amazing job. They styled the wig and have put it back into the mail to me. The owner will blame you for one of her stylist's mistakes. Instead of employing good customer service skills and apologizing, you as the paying customer are made to feel bad, shamed into tipping more, and guilted into apologizing yourself. TERRIBLE! warning: I was looking to buy a wig/topper. in her salon , Lillian owner showed me different wigsbut she didn't have the style that I was looking for. She said she was going to get a new style soon. Meanwhile, she convinced me to make a deposit towards the $1500 wig/topper. She convinced me by saying that if I wasn't satisfied, she would return all of my deposit.She charged me credit card $520 at that time. Six weeks later I went to see the wig topper that was supposedly more my style. It was not what I was expecting. So I requested to have my deposit back. she refused. She did not return my money for several months. I ended up contacting my credit card company and disputing the charge. finally credit card company returned some of my money. Ms Lillian charge 20% for credit card usage, $25 for consultation , $50 shipping and handling fee, and $25 restocking fee. Ladies, beware. This woman is after your money. She promises a lot but doesn't deliver. read more

I have been here twice and will never go back again. On my second visit (11/28/14) I had a Keratin treatment. I've had Keratin twice before at 2 different salons. Each time it takes about 3 weeks for my hair to adjust and I can see what it will be. This time I could tell right away that I wasn't so pleased with the results, but wanted to wait it out and see if the frizz would go down. Then I hurt my ankle and couldn't get around for a week. I called on 12/22 and explained that I waited to see what the results would be but that I still wasn't satisfied. I was told I could come in for a re-do. I specifically asked if there would be a charge and I was told it would be free of charge. I went in the next day (it took me 30 minutes to get out of my house on crutches) and was waiting to get my hair washed. The stylist came out and was about to get started when she mentioned she would have to charge me $100 since it was over 2 weeks. I explained that I was specifically told it would be free of charge, and I had told the receptionist the date I had the original treatment. She tried to convince me to do the treatment and I explained that not only was I explicitly told it would be free of charge, but why would I sink another $100 into a treatment that didn't go right the first time and I had no assurances on this time. I told her I was leaving and I would go somewhere I trusted. On my way out, I cancelled my appointment for coloring the next week and when asked whether I would like to reschedule, politely declined. I explained what had happened. Another stylist said that the lowest they could do is $80 and I reiterated that I was told they would correct the issue free of charge and I was not willing to pay to give them a second chance. They have lost what would have been an extremely loyal customer. read more

Love the salon and staff. Lillian is a professional who has been intimate with hair for decades. She can style any hair type and is a master colorist. As a J Beverly Hills verified stylist, I know I am getting taken care of by a professional. I have finicky hair, very thick and wiry curls. Lillian and her stylists have been able to tame my hair and show me how I can mimic the results at home. I have seen reviews that paint Lillian or her staff as being terrible to customers, but as someone who frequents this salon, I have seen an interaction or two between Lillian, a staff member, and an entitled client. The clients who I have seen causing a scene or claiming issue with their hair are clients who come in with severely damaged hair or unrealistic expectations for the styling session without the proper hair to make the magic happen. You can't walk in to the salon with heavily damaged/dyed hair and expect to not have the dead hair cut off and the color corrected. You can't go from one dyed extreme to another, that's just not how hair works. You also can't bully her or her staff. Stylists aren't servants. I have always seen Lillian and her staff handle themselves as professionals, and I have always been impressed with this. I always look forward to another visit to Lillian Lees. read more

I have been coming here for years and I am a guy. I absolutely love my experience every time I come here. Everyone is friendly and fun. I enjoy my time with the girls every visit and they treat everyone like royalty. They take so much care of their clients and especially the ones who come back. They know you by name and they all greet you personally. My only wish is that it was closer! This place is the best in the area and you won't find more talented stylists anywhere in Bergen County. Rubina is fabulous with her eyebrow threading (i recommend this for all guys - don't get them waxed) and both Stef and Lillian both know how a guy's haircut should look like! Lillian Lee is an amazing woman with a really wonderful salon. Every cut I get is good; she is always careful and artful, making sure the cut suits my face. The color is great. Beyond this, she is such a caring person. I first met her when I needed a wig because of chemotherapy. She offered me a beautiful selection of real hair wigs, and she just gave it to me and maintained it, charging me nothing. She made the experience so caring and gentle and private. Rubina, who does eyebrow threading does an incredible job. I get regular compliments on my eyebrows, even when it has been a few weeks since I've gotten them done! I first found Rubina when she had her own salon down the street and was sad to hear that her business didn't make it. I'm very happy that she was able to find a new spot at Lillian Lee. I have tried a number of places for eyebrow threading, some may be cheaper but Rubina does such a great job that it's worth handing over the extra few bucks. read more

i agree with rachel. They do not value customers old or new. I am an actress. I had an important rehearsal this weekend. My colorist was sick. I called lillian lee salon on sunday a.m and asked if they could please fit me in and do a touch up and blow dry. i was told to hold on . After 5 minutes i was disconnected. I called back and left a message with my number. No one ever called me back. Thank god I called another place in the area who took me in an hour. If you want a Salon that values you as a customer, this is NOT the place for you. They will cancel your appointment whenever they feel like, even if you make it weeks in advance for a special occasion. And it's not just for regular cuts they will cancel. Lillian canceled for my sisters wedding as well- a full 2 months after she was booked! When I dared to complain about not being accomodated, all I got was "well, you don't come here often". This was said to me, in person, when I came in for an appt, TODAY, different from the day I originally booked. I asked for a discount to make up for the inconvenience and all I got was " we NEVER offer discounts" and "you want to take money away from lillian?!" ( who conveniently, was not there, and could not be bothered to speak with me even though I requested to speak with her numerous times). I said I put something on facebook about my experience, and how many of my friends also had their appts canceled before ( as have I ) and I got " put what ever you want on facebook, everyone will come here anyway" No " we understand, we are sorry, take 10% off to make up for our incompetence" NOTHING. This salon used to be good, but with the attitude I got from the front desk, the bookkeeper AND the stylist, I walked out I will never go back. This salon needs to realize the customer comes first. read more

Terrible. They ruined my hair, I had to get it cut all off. The owner charged me more even after her employee ruined my hair. Then she damaged it even further with "corrective color". They don't value loyal customers and good tippers. They will make you wait, rush you, burn your hair and then charge you more for trying to fix it. Terrible business practices and poor form in customer service and rectifying mistakes. The treatment I received was sketchy at best and very unprofessional. It's going to take me a year to cut all the damage out of my hair. Shame on them... I had more color put in my hair where it was not needed and it cost me more. I am really happy with my curly hair cut with Jessica Stellato. I've been getting my hair cut by Jessica for the past two years, and I've followed her from her previous salon to Teaneck. You can see my curl pattern from my yelp photo (taken a week after my cut with Jessica). I know that I can trust her to make the best decision for my hair and lifestyle, and the cut is never too short or too long (as it often happens for curly haired women). I've brought friends with tighter curls or looser curls or waves, and everyone was pleased with their results. Any woman, and especially the one with curly hair, knows what it's like to keep looking for the "right" stylist who gets your hair and gives you consistently good hair. My first time here was yesterday and I will absolutely be back! Despite walking into a busy salon I was in and out in under an hour! Right from the door I was offered refreshments and made to feel comfortable. Mind you I hadn't had a proper haircut in over a year and Alexis did an outstanding job! She chopped off about 6-8 inches and gave me sleek sexy short hair. No remorse at all. Lillian is a very disrespectful woman. On my wedding day, she yelled and cursed me repeatedly because she was insulted that an outside makeup artist came to her salon to do my makeup. Lillian previously told me that it was ok for the makeup artist to come to her salon. While doing my hair, tears were streaming down my face and she showed no remorse. I really misjudged this woman. She never apologized for her wrongdoing and I regret with all my heart for hiring her to do my hair on the most special day of my life. read more

After going natural for five years I decided to perm my hair again and so I searched for the "best" salon in Teaneck and found Lillian lee salon. Little did I know I would regret my decision. So many things went wrong but besides the fact that I was quoted one price during the phone appointment I made and paid thrice the price at checkout, I was told they have a "professional" who has experience with black hair. I was satisfied immediately after the procedure but within the next two weeks my hair started falling out... in clumps. I always make sure it's well conditioned and oiled but now, and I kid you not, the hair on half of my head is gone and I have to start over. After only one perm. This never happened to my hair in the past when I used to perm. Needless to say I absolutely will not be going back there. read more

I had been a client at Lillian Lee for a number of years, following Maryann, my stylist who had moved from another salon. Several months ago I was diganosed with breast cancer and a course of chemotherapy was necessary. My oncologist recommended that I be fitted for a wig, as losing my hair during the treatments was inevitable. I went to see Lillian before I even began my treatments. She ordered a wig in the exact color of my hair and even had it shipped overnight to expedite the process so that the wig would be ready when I needed it. After the wig arrived she spent a great deal of time cutting and styling it (4 times!), until I felt like it was "me". During several of the appointments i came in crying from the emotional difficulty of the experience, but I always left smiling. Lillian and her staff were amazingly kind and compassionate during what was a most difficult time in my life. Arianna always greeted me with a smile and asked how I was feeling. She always made an effort to work around my medical appontments and always fit me into the schedule when I needed to come in. Lillian is an angel. Her Do Wonders organization is a gift to women who need a wig during a difficult time and could not otherwise afford to purchase one. I was fortunate that my insurance company covered the cost of a new wig. Also... Nabila is always so kind. Alexis always asks me how I am doing when i come in and tells me I look great. I can't tell you how much that lifts my spirits. This team of professionals made a huge impact in my life during what continues to be a truly challenging time.
