I want to leave this review for the company, not the salon staff. The employees at the salon were professional and did their best, but my experience with the company's customer service and policies was very disappointing. I had my hair colored at Madison Reed, and when I checked out, I agreed to sign up for a membership. The very next day, I decided it wasn't worth the cost and canceled it. Even though I canceled in June, I was still charged in July, and I was told I would be charged again in August because of a "billing cycle." I don't understand why I'm being charged after canceling, and the explanation I received wasn't clear. The salon service was fine, but I'm very disappointed with how the membership cancellation has been handled. Customers deserve clear information about when their cancellation takes effect and whether any additional charges will apply. I hope Madison Reed improves its communication and billing practices. read more

I really loved the color and it handled greys well. I have been using. A few times I went to their colorist who was good. But I noticed that even with a professional in the back I saw lighter lines of color and lighter roots even at the beginning. I have someone put it on professionally for me and it is the same. I used to like the way my hair felt but now not so much after using it consistently. I have not joined the club because that is not my thing. I would like to keep using but unsure. read more

There was no water to wash my color out!!! The staff tried to be as helpful as they could but the color stayed in longer than it should (50-55 mins) before they could wash aw much out as possible. I left with heavy conditioner and a shower cap. I realize this was a total mall issue but not one I'll forget anytime soon. read more

Got my hair right after never having a color job done. Becoming a member of this establishment was my first time getting a color and I am happy. . Love the color, the products used and the fact that the bar isn't crowded like your average hair salon. Everyone is very nice, prices are perfect for the value and the space is very new. I took one star off bc heat didn't work both times I went. Which was two months apart and so that's a little suspect to me. I can't imagine working in a space that has no heat in winter. read more

I gave them a second chance after they kept me waiting for over an hour. This time around it was 30 minute wait time with no one else in the shop. However, because they were expecting their regional supervisor, cleaning up was a higher priority than me. It is classic bait and switch. The last time I had the roots done, they were over processed and two shades darker so this month, I would need to pay another $80, to have a double process done to correct last months errors. In no way is this time or cost effective, but, it is an unwarranted upsell for them to correct the damage that has already been done. My scalp has burn spots, I suspect that it is from the prcessessing agent from being on too long. At this point I have cancelled my membership, and my hair has the coloring pattern of a calico cat. Which frankly, is an insult to calicos. The thing is I never wanted "gold/orange" undertones. An appointment that was scheduled for an hour and 15 minutes took over 2 and a half. Finally, the lighting in this place is horrid. I will find another way to get this done. It is not worth your time or money.C read more

This was my second time at this salon. First time was to get my roots done and hair cut. Apparently, blow outs are included when you get your hair cut. Which I didn't know about. Then I went in again for the second time on Friday. I had an appointment to get my roots done. After the single process I was waiting for them to dry my hair. Unfortunately, no one told me that the blow dry was a separate fee. After almost crying i had two separate stylist blowing out my hair at the same time. Making it look all out of sorts. I was not happy. I spoke to the owners daughter who gave me a sample hairspray pouch. That's all she said she could do. After numerous messages I left I finally got a call back from a another manager named Phyllis. She totally wouldn't even listen to me she completely took the side of the salon and accused me of lying. So after paying 140.00, all i wanted was a wash and blow out by one styles. She didn't care about losing a costumer. I feel i still want to talk to the owner Jack who apparently is never there. I currently live in Ridgewood, it shouldn't be this hard trying to get a message to the owner. read more

Louisa was my colorist, and she was exceptional. I have had my hair highlighted countless times and she was clearly the best. The other terrific advantage of going to Madison Reed is how their products are created it is an odorless environment. There are non of the nasty smells normally associated with hair dyes. What a joke. Plan to wait 30-45 minutes to start your appointment. Then plan not to get the services you scheduled during your appointment. I had a 2pm appointment that didn't start until 2:40, for a roots, gloss and blowout. Color was left in my hair for over an hour, no gloss, no blow-out. I rearranged my whole day around having an appointment to ready myself for an event. Went home with wet hair that wasn't glossed. Got there at 2pm left at 4:30 - 2.5 HOURS FOR ROOTS - I LEFT WITH WET HAIR THAT HAD NO GLOSS NO BLOW OUT. Yup, not effective for a busy executive, not effective for anyone, not an express way to get my roots done. In addition to raising the membership rate the entire business model is crumbling. Not going to continue with Madison Reed. read more

Stay away from Madison Reed. They pride themselves in giving personalized color but that only works if you can use their stock colors. For over a year I was going to the Garden State Plaza mini bar and the colorists were helping me get a personalized color mixing two different shades. My color was great. Last week I went in to get additional products and they refused to personalize my color. I need to take the standard colors, case closed. The "Manager" was nasty, mean and not at all accommodating. I have never been so poorly treated by a service business in my life. They advertise that "confident is the new beautiful" not so much if you can't be treated well at their mini bar and cannot get personalized color. Shame on you Amy Errett. read more
