The hairstylist was more concerned about keeping me happy than having the confidence and boldness to take an artistic approach. The experience was a little too safe for what I wanted. DO NOT GO HERE FOR BALAYAGE. DO NOT BUY THE GROUPON---- save your money!!! Firstly, the Groupon is a scam. Once you come into the salon the stylist explains that you will have to pay extra for toner and the price ends up being $220. Secondly, they absolutely do not care if your hair comes out how you want it to. I asked for dark brown balayage on my virgin hair (first picture posted) and ended up with this hair. It was so bad that I went back the second day to fix it ... the stylist spent 10 minutes on me after I explained that I drove an hour away. I said the color is still not what I asked for and she explained that it would look better once I styled it. I ended up going to a wedding this weekend. My hair stylist asked who had done my color and was appalled that I had gotten it done professionally. I ended up having to leave box dye on my hair for 40 minutes to bring it back to its original color. After I called the stylist and manager and explained the situation (very nicely) she said I shouldn't have left the salon if that's not the color I wanted. She also said she spent her products on my hair and would not be giving me a refund. She was very condescending and went on to say that it was not her problem that I did not know what I was getting myself into. Save yourself the trouble and go to a professional salon. I am so so glad I found this salon. I purchased a Groupon for a balayage and when I met with my stylists, Lea and Kathy, they explained to me that since my hair was already lightened, I couldn't get what I wanted in the picture. So they worked some sort of magic that I'll never understand and somehow did exactly what I wanted without doing a balayage or dying my hair - I think it was a toner or low lights - anyway, it's all natural and they kept my natural highlights from the summer while bringing out the deep tones to my natural hair and it ended up looking exactly what I wanted. My hair is SO soft, shiny, healthy, and perfect. I can't thank them enough! Not only did they do a perfect job on my hair, but they were so accommodating and welcoming. I went on Halloween night and they were giving out candy to all trick-or-treaters. At one point, my parking meter was going to expire so they paid for my extra hour of parking which isn't a lot, but they even ran outside to put it in for me. Each stylist there is so personable and kind. They're really so wonderful there. I'll admit that I try Groupons all the time trying to find a steady salon since I've moved up to Bergen County. ASK FOR MANIJEH!!! I went in with a Groupon for Balayage and Cut.(Always make an appointment and tell them you bought the Groupon). Manijeh is A-MAZ-ING! She's very knowledgeable! I actually had henna in my hair from a few months ago, too. I didn't think that would be a problem, but henna can actually have a really bad reaction with the bleach and cause your hair to turn green! (Manijeh told me all of this, I had no idea!) Manijeh tested out a piece from the back of my head and the color actually lifted with no problem! She did the bleach and then showed me my toner options. (Note: the Groupon does not include the toner, you have to pay for that) I had showed her a picture of what I wanted at the beginning of our session and she recommended what she thought would be the closest resemblance to what I wanted! She even showed me a picture of my hair when it was still in the sink to show me how the bleach lifted and what the next steps were. Even better, she told me about the upkeep: what shampoos to avoid, when to expect the color to fade, what to do if I didn't like the color, etc. Then came the cut, perfect and everything I wanted. I didn't want the blowout, and it wasn't part of the package but she did dry me! She also blew out just the front to show me how the color turned out and she gave me styling tips to best show off my new look! Manijeh is head to toe such an amazing stylist. She's professional and SO PERSONABLE!!! She holds great conversation and she thoroughly explains what she's doing and why. The best part is she really puts herself in your position and treats you as a client as she would want to be treated. (For example when I was waiting for my last foils to finish processing we started talking about toner and she asked if I was comfortable in the position I was in, I said I was okay but then she folded up a towel and stuck in under my head so I was propped up a lot better to see and talk.) I went here and got a new customer discount which was amazing I spent around $150 dollars instead of $300+ dollars on balayage. Came to classic look for the first time and was completely blown away with how they are really taking all of the necessary precautions to make everyone feel safe. I had my hair colored and highlighted by MILDRED and the results were exactly what I wanted. She took the time during the consultation to explain to me what I needed in order to achieve my final result. I also brought pictures of what I wanted which I think was helpful. About an hour before my appointment, Classic Look called to reschedule for an hour later. I should've cancelled. Without a smile or a hint of friendliness, the receptionist just asked "are you Hannah?". The hairstylist seemed unsure of everything. She had to ask her boss "how to mix your formula" despite it being clearly written, and this was after she asked another coworker. As it turns out, they didn't have the color needed to do my hair! They told me to come back in three weeks. Anyone who has roots knows three weeks is too long to wait. My experience here was dicey. While my stylist did an amazing job on my balayage and blowout, I was completely misinformed about all of the additional charges. Beware of being exorbitantly overcharged for extra bottles of bleach (this is guaranteed if you have a lot of hair like me), and for the glaze which is "required," but apparently NOT part of the balayage deal, which makes zero sense. They also talked me into getting a haircut too, which I wasn't keen on- when I spoke with them over the phone earlier, they insisted I would have to pay full price for a haircut & blowout even if the blowout was already included in the Groupon. Luckily, my stylist convinced them to only charge me half of what a haircut usually costs- I guess she noticed the discrepancy as well. The facility is clean and the staff is friendly enough; however, I did not exactly feel taken care of. The whole process took about 3 hours, but it felt much longer than that. So overall, very talented stylists but way too overpriced (and a little sneaky). read more

I have been to this salon twice and is now become my favorite. It's a very clean efficient salon run by friendly stylists who are very careful to listen to you and make sure they understand what your likes and dislikes are. I have tried several hair salons in Ridgewood and nearby towns. Some salons are very pretentious and they charge you varying prices adding more money by doing work I specifically told them I don't want. They rush you and act as if you should be grateful they are willing to do your hair. They have expensive decor and charge outrageous prices using unhealthy products and unnecessary procedures. These left my hair and scalp itching and stinging and smelling of unpleasant chemicals. This Salon uses Aveeda products that are natural and healthy. The hair color lasts longer than other brands and it doesn't leave a chemical scent. They have a special promotion for the rest of January, so it's a great opportunity to try them. They don't have fancy beverages or extravagant decor but they will do a great job for your hair and treat you with the respect you deserve. read more

I got to ClassicLook every 6 weeks for highlights and a cut. Every stylist seems very professional and each one is friendly. They are accommodating and willing to work around my unusual schedule. The stylist and owner, Vincent, is willing to come in Sundays and Mondays, which is a huge plus for me. Horrible experience. Went with a Groupon. Bought a three pack blowout package. The first two were good. This time I had an appointment with Lia who was apparently overbooked yesterday. The front desk person kept telling me she would "get me started". Apparently she is inexperienced, unlicensed and did a dreadful job on my hair. She did tell Lia several times to help and Lia ignored her and me. The shampoo girl girl came and tried to smooth my hair which was frizzed out and most likely damaged and burnt by front desk who kept pulling and yanking it out with a comb. Let me clarify and say that I came in for an advertised FREE service. As it was explained to me, it was a class of some sort to let the apprentice do my highlights under supervision. I've been a highlight model once before and it was a great experience. The apprentice was grateful that I let her work on my hair, and she asked me what I wanted and tried to accommodate me in every possible way. Not so in this place. When I came in, I tried to show the owner Vincent and the apprentice what I wanted. I even showed them a picture of my desired shade, MY OWN picture, not Jennifer Aniston's or some unattainable starlet's hair, telling them that I liked contrast and dimensions. He barely glanced at the picture I was showing, mixed the color and started showing the girl the craft of highlights. To my horror I realized that she didn't even know how to hold a piece of foil. It's as if I was her first customer. He was showing her how to separate the hair, how to fold, how to hold the foil, etc. I even asked her if she ever tried beauty school. She told me that she graduated from beauty school. Really? Without even knowing how to hold a piece of foil for highlight? But I was already in, so I stayed in my seat and prepared myself for a long and tedious afternoon. Soon after they started I noticed that Vincent was telling her that since I wanted contrast she should leave more space in between my highlights. I told them that I didn't want them spaced out and showing dark roots, all I wanted was contrast achieved by blending different shades. He totally ignored me. Five minutes later I said it again, this time he addressed my concern by saying to the girl : "She doesn't know what she wants. Let's make less space in between" Uhm, thanks.... I guess. I then asked him how come they didn't start from the back of my head, that's where every colorist usually starts with the highlights, and he told me that they are not doing the back. Why? We are just doing the front, he said, with no further explanation. He then asked her if she felt more comfortable doing it by herself for 5 minutes. and she said :"I'm not sure, she is moving her head" - "So tell her not to move,- he said. It's not about her, it's about you!" Now, I understand it was a FREE service, however I was still the customer, no? Not a paying customer, but a customer nevertheless. I was sitting in a chair by appointment and invitation from the salon, that constitutes a customer. In any case, she was so slow that after doing only half of my hair (which was half a head anyway) he took over and finished the job, all without saying a word to me. After the job was completed he didn't ask me if I liked it, didn't compliment me on my hair, NOTHING! The highlights actually weren't bad, not exactly the shade that I wanted , but I wouldn't say they were horrible, but the attitude, the rudeness and the service made me feel horrible. I got up and left without saying a single word, since not a single word was said to me. By the way, in all the time that I was in the salon, there was not a single customer there, not a soul! I had a great appointment with Blair yesterday! She did a single process and glaze on my hair, and cleaned up my layers/trimmed my hair beautifully before blowing it out.
