Heard a lot of great things about Lilly pad and was glad we ended up here on a hot Friday evening. This place does get PACKED as the night gets later so come early if you prefer not to wait over an hour. Service was a bit slow but they were busy (and probably understaffed). Drinks were okay for the most part. I really thought $10 for a bucket of about 4 domestic beers were well worth it. The food is decent and about what I expected. I recently visited the Lillypad, drawn in by it being on numerous RVA Instagram pages. The drive was worthwhile, despite the distance. The atmosphere and views are highlights here. I opted for a strawberry daiquiri and a pizza, while sharing a tasty crab dip. My sister went for the shrimp. I recommend the pizza with hot honey drizzle, elevating it from basic to flavorful. The crab dip was enjoyable and definitely worth a repeat order. The shrimp, though tasty, resembled typical fried shrimp. Notably, the establishment doesn't provide straws for drinks. I suggest trying this spot for a waterside experience, enjoying good weather and watching boats. A perfect place to savor drinks and soak in the atmosphere. I'm already planning to return. Service was good. The server was super accommodating with recommending a different table when a party left so we wouldn't be in direct sunlight. I plan on returning! read more

My boyfriend had the seared tuna sandwich that too is not seen bc it was soo good. My stepdad had the catfish sandwich. It was really big and he said it was delicious. My son has the pizza, he said that too was delicious. And finally my step dad girlfriend had the crab legs and she had no complaints. Needless to say, we most definitely will come back again. Great lunch spot before strawberry picking at the Gallmeyer Farms. Rent a boat, grab some eats. Weather is prefect for summertime by the river. They even have a small sandbox area to entertain the little ones. Overall wonderful dining experience, highly recommended! read more

As we were traveling up I95, I knew we were going to stopover in Richmond for the night. I came across this restaurant on Yelp and couldn't have been more satisfied. It is located right on the James River with a beautiful view. They had outdoor seating with a live band. The waitress Nakita, was very attentive. She took our drink order and service was very quick. My husband and I then shared the Lilly Pad pizza. Their homemade sourdough crust is amazing and the basil pesto was very fresh. I had the cheeseburger. It tasted like it came right off the grill. It was served with a side of hush puppies and berry butter. What a nice surprise. My husband had the catfish and said it was very good. On our next trip through Virginia, we will surely be back. read more

I have visited the lilly pad occasionally through the years, I once enjoyed the funkiness/diveyness as an outpost on the river at the far eastern end of Metro Richmond. It is now totally gentrified... When I visited recently on a Friday night I was sent to the cocktail area to await being called to a table I asked about craft beer, they had a nice selection of canned craft beer and a few drafts I ordered a draft Stone IPA (locally made, not particularly exotic) I was served a twelve oz pour in a plastic cup and charged 8 dollars , then told there was a 20% mandatory tip and I must clear the tab with each order. Bullshit on all three accounts. This left a bad taste in my mouth and I left. read more

One of my new favorite places is the Lily Pad on Osborne Turnpike. All outdoor seating with tables spaced 8' - 10' feet apart and it is dog friendly. They offer 2 items on the menu for dogs. There is entertainment on the weekends and the fare service is quick because they keep the fare simple. My favorite is the fried oyster appetizer. The servers are friendly and do an excellent job. Don't be deterred by the long wait, the atmosphere is totally relaxing. You have an opportunity to rent a boat and pull right up to the restaurant. The only issue I have is the last time I visited, they lost power and they have no generator, which meant the band could not play, and if you hadn't already placed an order, you could not order or pay for your food. They serve a drink called "the pain killer". I haven't tried it; but, I saw it put a smile on many patrons' faces while they waited. read more

I visited this with my husband and it was not what I expected. There is no indoor seating and it was extremely hot 100 degrees outside. The bugs were everywhere and got in my food and drink. I would definitely recommend some type of treatment for flies and nats. The crab dip was good. read more

We had attempted to come here last year, 2019, but never had a chance. This past season, 2020 we were able to get here multiple times. Every time we came here was a good experience. This place has received an upgrade and is very Covid safe/friendly. Everything is outside so that makes it better, and the tables are separate enough which keeps you distanced from everyone else. There are good drink deals and food specials. The menu is available to take photos of, or simple enough you can choose quickly and order from your table. The hush puppies are amazing, the fries are great and the burgers are really good too. I think the only thing I would suggest is a mobile menu, (edit) they have a QR menu! Shows how long since I've been there! a little quicker service at the beginning and a little better time management when putting your name in for a table. Overall I cannot wait to go back go the Pad and enjoy the dock and food again next season. read more

Great atmosphere, you cannot beat the view or sitting right on the river. The $10 buckets of domestic beer are an amazing deal. We ordered the crab dip appetizer which was great. I ordered the fried catfish sandwich for dinner and it was very delicious. My partner ordered the tuna sandwich and also enjoyed it. My family is at lilly pad at least once a week! This place is delicious and the perfect summer spot! We have tried nearly everything on the menu from pizza to sandwiches, and so much more! We haven't had a bad thing yet! The $10 dollar beer buckets are a steal and cocktails are 2 dollars off at happy hour! Also you can check out their Facebook for live music events! Okay wow!!! I'd see this place on The Richmond Experience and wanted to go because who doesn't love a restaurant on the water? I convinced my boyfriend to join me for drinks on a Friday at 3 p.m. on a day that was probably the hottest day we could've chosen. We were seated immediately, and they adjusted the umbrella over our table which helped us get some shade. It wasn't busy at all. There were people at two other tables there. Once you're seated you can walk over to the giant chalkboard and review the menu. It was happy hour so the cocktails were two dollars off. I ordered a painkiller, and he ordered a Bahama mama. We enjoyed both very much! The music was relaxing and we watched boaters go by while we enjoyed a few more drinks. The flies were crazy but we used our masks to cover our drinks. Once we left almost every table was full. I can't wait to go back and try the food! The service was top-notch! People around me become annoyed because I talk about Lilly Pad so much...but, oh well! read more

I felt sorry for the server who had to give me the $17 ahi tuna sandwich-had to be embarrassing. The sandwich could have passed for a can of Starkist tuna pressed together. It was a square and maybe as thick as a and same size as a McDonald's hash brown. I told my wife "where's the beef?" All bun, mayo, lettuce and tomato. Very disappointed in service. After waiting 90 mins for a table (with 2 children), the server tried to seat us at a table that was in the rain. The umbrella was not covering the entire table and the chairs were being rained on and were wet. When we asked if we could be seated at another the table, the server said no that she did not have any other tables and that we could go back to the gravel area to eat (which had no tables since everyone was crowded under there due to the rain) She then proceeded to call the next group on the waiting list and seated them at a table that was completely covered. I'm not sure why we could not be seated at the tables under the tented area, but we will not be returning to The Lilly Pad. read more

Visiting family in VA & they recommended this place. It's not what I expected it to be, yet it was what I expected it to be. We had a large party & unfortunately we didn't think of making a reservation & didn't realize they did them. They had us sit to the side at this little area by the water & maybe within 15-20 minutes they were able to seat us. (Sorry we were THOSE type of customers!) I ordered the black bean burger (wish I had taken a photo) & it was actually pretty good. We got the hush puppies & crab dip... Not that great. I personally dont think I'd go back just to go back but it's definitely a place to venture out & try if you're stuck on where to go to eat. When trying out Lilly Pad, it was opening week and they were slammed to say the least. While waiting, you can sit in a chair on the side and order drinks, so the 40 minute wait wasn't too awful. The food was alright, it was a dive bar type of restaurant so don't expect too much. What really reeled us in was the scenery, it was a lovely evening watching the sunset and there was music playing loudly. The noise is pretty loud as it is a bustling outdoor restaurant. read more

The atmosphere of this place is so cute. It has beautiful views and a great outdoor deck. The service was great from the hostess to the server to the food runners. Food wasn't bad either. Great beer selection. Chicken tenders and burgers were really good. Pulled pork sandwich was good. I wish it had more smoke flavor and I needed a bit more BBQ sauce. Slaw was good. I would have preferred thicker hand cut fries over shoestring but all in all it was a good dish, or basket should I say. We will definitely be back. It's a great spot. read more
