shrimp platter hush puppies & 2 piece of Lake Trout

Still in love with this place.. We recently stopped by this place as i met up with one of my friends who is from hometown NJ.. she's a chef so I had to keep her mouth watering while she was in town. This is one of my top seafood spots in Richmond. She ordered the shrimp platter with hush puppies & 2 piece of lake trout "as pictured". She loved every bit of the food.

I kept driving past this crab house on JD thinking it was a place that sold seafood cooked food. I happened to look it up on Yelp and saw that they had ready made food (other than sea food) and it's a fish market. The two guys were kind and welcoming. I ordered ribs and sides then fried fish and sides. The ribs and fish were good. Cabbage and greens were surprisingly good. I didn't like the man n cheese or mushrooms. I'd go again and try different sides.

I'm always skeptical about trying local places on JD because I've had bad experiences, but I just keep trying and thanks goodness I did! Sam's is on point! Fish was fresh, fries homemade. I mean, I'm at a loss for words. Food: I ordered a combo of Whitting(3pc), fries, Texas toast and a homemade sweet tea. I wish my pockets and my waistline could afford me to eat here everyday! Hubby ordered a combo with ribs, Mac n cheese, greens and a sweet tea. He did say the Mac n cheese tasted like something store bought but it was still really good. Everything was great no complaints. Note: This is not a sit-in restaurant. You order to go. If you've driven by or wondered about them please go in and get you some of his good food; you'll thank yourself later.

I'm so in love with this place. Not only is the food soooooooo good. The service is just as great. The 2 guy's there are so friendly. I couldn't make my mind up what side I wanted, so he gave me a sample of every side! I literally wanted some of each to go!

If I lived in Richmond, Sam's would be my go to for seafood. We called Sam's to ask if they had crab, and they said to come in about an hour. When we are arrived, we also decided to order shrimp as they looked really good. They cooked everything for us upon order so the crab and shrimp were all very fresh. Both the crab and the shrimp were delicious. Sam's also has a variety of chicken and sides. I would definitely return for lunch or dinner and I highly recommend this spot. The service was excellent.

Fresh seafood, awesome prices and excellent staff. Food: This place offers a variety of different types of seafoods. Crabs, shrimps, fresh, oysters, crawfish, crab cakes and several other items. They can cook the food for you or you can grab the items fresh and take them home. Another thing worth mentioned is the soul food they offer as well. Mac and cheese, greens, potatoes, french fries, baked and fried chicken and corn bread. Location: It is located on jeff davis. Not an ideal location but it will do. The hours they are open are decent. Don't expect to come to place after hours. Lol Staff/Service: Each visit the staff is awesome and was very polite. Never had any issues at all. They answer any questions you have, offer suggestions and let you know what current specials they have for the day.

The staff were polite, but we had to ask several times to get items we were missing or things we wanted extras of. They checked in on us a fair number of times, but they still forgot to return to give us what we had asked for. By the time we were ready to leave, we still haven't gotten our dressings or our condiments. I also had asked for my burger to be well done, but I got a burger with quite a bit of pink in it. I didn't want to ask for it to be placed back on the grill because I didn't really want to wait longer for my food. Although I wanted my burger to be well done and I didn't get it that way, it was still pretty good. The fries though, I think was the best part of it. The fries were perfectly seasoned and crunchy! I also ordered a coke. Just a heads up, they don't do free refills on the sodas, so each cup is $4. My party also ordered salmon l'orange and a romano salad with salmon. My friends really enjoyed their main dishes, but we did ask for extra dressing. The restaurant is decorated in a boho-style vibe, and it was cute. We found the lighting on the side dining area to be a little bit too dim once the sun went down, but I do think it would've been perfect for a date night vibe. Overall, we had an okay experience.

The restaurant was quite busy, but we were seated on the patio quickly. That evening, they had a pasta al a vodka special but I still got the lamb burger with fries. We also got the pork bowl, which was HUGE and the table favorite. The bowl had rice, beans, pineapple, shredded pork, tomatoes and pickled onions. I love the amount of food and all the toppings. It was kind of elevated chipotle! We finished the evening with coconut cream pie and a couple more Coors lights. The coconut cream pie was fluffy and slightly sweet. The only thing is the crust was a bit hard, but it was still very yummy!

The patio is covered and has 2 heaters. We walked into the bar and the bartender directed us outside where our server came out and got us waters. She helped us turn the heaters on and got us settled as we waited for the rest of our family to arrive. For apps, we ordered the Fried Oysters and the chicken tenders with BBQ sauce. The chicken tenders came with fries as well. The oysters were good, nice and crispy. The tenders were also delicious, especially with the BBQ sauce. The fries, while they looked crispy, were just a tad soggy for my taste. For our entrees, I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and my husband ordered the cubano. Our family ordered salads with salmon. Everything looked delicious and was fairly quick to come out. My sandwich came with ranch and it definitely helped tone down the saltiness of the Fried chicken. Just eating the chicken alone was too salty and I had asked for my fries extra crispy which were amazing. The cubano sandwich was good and well made and the side of Brussels my husband got were also crispy. The salads and the salmon looked good, definitely cooked well. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. The person who helped bring out our drinks also ended up bringing out some bacon for our dog and was so kind. The patio is dog friendly but I would recommend brining a towel or mat for your pup to lay on. Overall, great service and good food!

It's served with one whole waffle, two large pieces of fried chicken, and syrup on the side. The chicken was not seasoned as much as I hoped and wasn't as spicy as I expected, which was a bummer. The cheese grits were alright as well, but not as flavorful as I hoped. My partner ordered the Double Barrel Bowl, and he really enjoyed it. The house is rich in history making it quite a special place for my husband and I to celebrate a momentous occasion. A drawback was how uncomfortable the seats were. My husband and I are like Vikings, very tall and stocky, so the seats felt too small. The average person will probably have no problem with them. My hubs ordered the seafood platter and was delighted in how delicious it was. I ordered the Black and Bleu Beef Tips with the filet and requested it be cooked medium rare. Unfortunately, it was mostly overcooked and tough. I expected the mushroom sauce to be more substantial and the bleu cheese to be enough to be tasted. I was very disappointed at what was a sprinkling of mushrooms on top and no distinct bleu cheese flavor at all. The twice baked potato was yummy, but I could not eat the asparagus as I found it bitter and undercooked. It made me regret paying the price it cost as I could not even enjoy half the portion. Service was good and yet not. We were served by three different people, including the manager who seemed to give most of her attention to one particular table. When she removed our plates without offering dessert, coffee, or tea it felt we were being hurried along. One older gentleman was very attentive. He made sure we were taken care of and satisfied. I wish I knew his name as I would love to give him all the stars. He was superb and comped us dessert in honor of our special occasion. We chose the tiramisu, and it was very tasty, perfect crispy top with the creamy underside. I do recommend this restaurant as an experience one should seek to enjoy. I believe you will love the historicity of the location, and the service will be a fine dining event. Your food may be hit or miss, depending on what you order, but I think the location itself is worth the risk.

I was tasked with phoning in the reservation (thankfully the meal went better than that debacle)and since we were dining early it wasn't an issue. First of all, there are two places in the property; the Tavern and 5 Fields pizza and beer. We dined at the Tavern. GORGEOUS garden lining the old farmhouse! We went in and were seated inside right away. As it was almost 100 today it was ideal seating. The decore is well.... different. Where we sat was a truck grill from 1928, and there was more of a sports motiff. (If you go and sit in the same room, let me know if you can spot the crooked pic!) Once again, my curse at remembering names of the servers has hit again which is a real sham because she was beyond AWESOME. She was VERY patient with my extremely frustrating mum which was nice. We both got this truly genius idea of an appetizer to start; a veggie boat with a ranch style dressing. Omg it was perfect. Warm day, cruciferous veggies, ice cold drinks. Heaven. Next came the burgers, she got the Tavern burger, I got the Charles City burger. The Tavern has cheddar cheese and bacon, the Charles City has bree cheese and this creamy mojo ajo aoli along with fried shallots....there is probably more but all I know is that I feel like an idiot never having triple creme bree on a burger before. I have to take a moment to also inform you that they make the BEST Cosmo outside of NYC. Perfectly blended and chilled, and just strong enough to celebrate a Friday night. Yowza! One.more thing. They tempted me with a scoop of their home made butter pecan ice cream. I just want to move in and become one with this place it was so good. I haven't had butter pecan this good in 50 years!! After this essay I guess you could say that I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. It's in a beautiful area, lots of parking, great food & ambiance. I couldn't find a single fault.
