Then something clearly shifted around Nov 2025 when a large group of amazing stylists suddenly left. I obviously don't know the full story, but people do not leave a salon in waves like that for no reason. Ever since then, the professionalism here has absolutely tanked. I tried giving the salon another chance once they hired more staff. During my haircut appointment, the stylist spent most of the service talking about explicit personal topics that had absolutely nothing to do with me or my appointment. She repeatedly stopped cutting my hair to talk with coworkers, complained about wanting to go home, complained about working past close, and openly acted annoyed to be there... even though my appointment was booked during normal salon hours. My bangs were also cut unevenly. I honestly thought maybe I just caught someone on a bad day, so I came back again for color with a different stylist. Same energy, different person. She complained about management, complained about being exhausted, asked to leave early during my appointment, and had her boyfriend sitting in the waiting area while she worked. Then at checkout, she literally calculated a 20% tip for me and told me exactly what amount to enter into the keypad. I asked for 2 inches off, my hair fell below my chest, then the girl cut it to my collarbone! It was too late when I noticed and it was blunt cut so I felt like Lord Farquad. I explained that I wanted to re-lighten some underdeveloped highlights, and Julie seemed to understand. She started re-lightening but didn't pull the bleach all the way to the top of the highlights, opting instead to do a root smudge to cover the roots. Unfortunately, that has since faded, leaving me with very orange roots. She also didn't have time to address all the highlights, so she suggested I book a follow-up in four weeks to give my hair time to recover. When I reached out to confirm the appointment, Julie told me I didn't have one on record. I knew I had booked, so I found my email confirmation and sent it to her. Communication was a struggle; she often took days to respond, and I had to push for updates. Eventually, she said that the two-hour appointment I had wasn't long enough for what I needed, though this was never clarified when I initially booked. She said I should cancel it and couldn't get me in for another month! Had she communicated and been responsive I could have booked properly way sooner. To add to it, Julie's attitude came across as quite rude, which made the experience even more frustrating. Although she seemed knowledgeable, the communication, scheduling issues, and lack of attention to detail left me disappointed with the outcome.

She understood my curly hair type as well as understanding that I also like to wear it straight. I have a ton of hair and it's curly, kindly, FRIZZY, thick, la la la. I wanted a short a-line bob which was a challenge to get a nice stack but with layers and she took her time and really gave me such a cute cut! I go back in a couple weeks for color and I have all the confidence in her! The salon itself faces the side of the building but there is a flag sign at the sidewalk. THE STYLIST: Jen arrives from Salt Lake City where she had fifteen years of experience as stylist at an Aveda salon - with all the great training Aveda provides. I imagine Jen's former clients in Salt Lake must really be missing her - and their Facebook posts say that is true - because Jen just cut and colored my hair for the first time and both services were simply top notch. My hair is fine - and I have found that unlike fine wine, fine hair does not improve with age - and challenging to cut. I have tried a number of different stylists in the six years I've lived in the Boise area and Jen provided not only the best cut to fit my hair that I've had here but among the best cuts I've had in a dozen years. (And I say that from the perch that my long term stylist in my previous city was crackerjack good.) Jen's advice on color was expert too - and yes hiding gray is part of my needs and wants list at this age - and I'm equally as delighted with that part of her work to improve on what was not looking good previous color work done elsewhere. More than ample clear floor space for path of travel from stylist's chairs to shampoo area. Accessible loo too. One would assume 30 years into the ADA being law all salons would do as good a job of getting it right as does Studio.
