I contacted the billing department who then told me they would contact the front office staff and I received no response. I then called a second time and still have received no response from the front office, until today when I received another bill in the mail. My suggestion- find a different practice with a less rude office staff and more clear communication.

Dr. Sung is super knowledgeable, gave thorough recommendations, described cause and effects of conditions, and explained how my insurance worked in a clear/concise manner. I really appreciate how he took his time. However, appointment times are somewhat unpredictable in terms of when you'd see the doctor. I saw the doctor after 30 minutes of my actual appointment time, so make sure to plan for flexibility. Overall, this is a great podiatry that I'd love to come back to.

The front desk confirmed that it was. When I questioned why I was being charged $182, I was told that if there was any overpayment, I could bring the EOB back to the office for a refund once I received it. I even asked if I needed to bring the EOB statement back in person for the refund, and the front desk said yes, adding that "you will be coming back anyway." For the follow-up visit on 3/11, I was charged another $90 and was again told to wait until I received the Blue Shield EOB and then bring the EOB to the office to request a refund. I understand that refunds may require a process, and I am completely fine with that. However, the front desk communication was very unprofessional and caused unnecessary inconvenience. After receiving the EOB, I called ahead and clearly told the front desk that I was calling about a refund. Since I had originally been told to bring the EOB to the office for the refund process, I wanted to confirm before going. The front desk specifically told me that the office would be open on Wednesday. I even confirmed with her by asking, "So I can come in on Wednesday directly for the refund?" and the front desk lady said yes. She also asked whether I had already received the EOB, and I confirmed that I had. However, when I went to the office on Wednesday, the office was not open at all and no one was there. Only after I called again did she tell me that I did not need to come in for the refund and that it could be handled over the phone. If the refund could have been handled by phone, this information should have been communicated during my first call instead of asking me to come in person. This caused unnecessary inconvenience and wasted my time. Patients' time should be respected, and they should not be asked to make unnecessary trips because of poor communication. I explained that the pain was so severe that I could not get a shoe on my left foot and was wearing a Bomba sock instead. But from the moment I encountered the staff my " appointment " for which I had waited THREE WEEKS was a travesty. They had no record of my appointment (which had been made directly by my insurance company) nor could they find the materials I had texted to the office at their instruction 3 weeks earlier. It turns out, after a very unpleasant exchange that I had " texted " to their email address. They did, in fact, have it. Calls were made to the Medical group at UCLA (not the people who could help me) and finally I myself called the line reserved for Prestige plan patients (we pay a modest fee to the medical group to have help navigating the complex health system). Without reviewing my extensive records the representative (Brittany) could not help me immediately. I asked for a supervisor (Patricia) who for obvious reasons was apologetic but also unable to help. Since the staff had treated me like a criminal in the office--no appointment, no insurance, no right to be there (could it have been that they assumed only a homeless person would walk around with one shoe and one sock) I decided to leave and call my insurance company from home.
