Before going, I called to confirm the price, and the person who answered said that a 90-minute massage would cost $70. However, she didn't clarify that the $70 covered only 45 minutes for the back and 45 minutes for the feet. I'm also from China, and I found this place to be quite disappointing. The massage itself lasted only 60 minutes, with just 45 minutes of actual massage time. The rest of the time, the therapist (she) used lotions, extremely hot stones, and towels on my back, which left me in pain. The 30-minute foot massage was also unsatisfactory; it wasn't relaxing, and the therapist (she) seemed to randomly rubbing my feet... After the massage, she claimed that the cost was $80 for 90 minutes instead of $70. Although the difference was only $10 and I did tip generously, the issue is that the business should honor the price they advertised. She should have confirmed whether I wanted a 45-minute back massage or a 60-minute back massage before starting the service. Tips are not required they are optional and I always give a decent tip not on the lower side but don't tell me to give $10 each for $30 massage when I have had better massages from people who don't demand a high tip or give an attitude. Okay, where to begin...there were four of us (2 men, 2 women) and we had made a reservation in advance. I knew that this would not be an upscale place, so when we were quickly rushed to our recliners, I wasn't shocked. None of the employees seem to speak English very well, so it took a minute to understand what was going on. The massage was amazing and the chairs were very comfortable. The woman next to me was out like a light! Yes, they did have several phone calls (3) during my visit and did answer the phone while attending to their clients, but I did not see a problem with that-they have a business to run and don't want to lose out on customers, I get it. It was not loud by any means like some of the other reviews are stating but maybe we came at a good time (Sunday morning). What really made my group angry was after our massages. We each paid ($28/hr). My brother in law and his girlfriend tipped $5 each. The older man looked at them and said "what is this?" while shaking the dollar bills at them. Confused they explained that it was for tip, he looked at them and said "no, more." It was then that one of the younger employees intervened and said "usually we get $10 tip." Being they were in the moment, completely caught off guard, and in front of other people they both added $5 to the tip, but as they did the older man was clearly disapproving and kept shaking is head. Sorry, but if you expect a $10 tip then don't charge $28 for an hour-that would be about a 42% tip. I understand that the people who work here are hard working but you should never expect to get tipped in the first place. If you do than at most expect 20% which would be $6. Also, the audacity to be so rude about your dissatisfaction over a tip is a sure way to lose future customers. We all wanted to come back but I'm not sure I will after the unprofessional display during the payment. I am also not sure why the bad reviews. This is NOT a traditional Day Spa. Think more on the lines of a mani-pedi place, but for an awesome foot massage!! I came in for my 11:00 appt they saw me right away and went to work. There are about 7 large Lazy Boy type chairs set up. I reclined and relaxed the whole time. It was awesome, quick and just what I needed. I also have a knee injury and told them and they were gentle with that knee. Again, It's not a whole day spa experience if that's what your looking for. What followed was a squabble with the man behind the counter harassing me for the 35 minute massage. "35 minutes. Only $28" Nah, I'm good. "What, you don't have 5 more minutes?" No, just want the 30 minutes. "5 more minutes. only 3 more dollars." No, really, I'm fine. Went to the chair. Had a hell of a time trying to adjust it to my height. I'm an average dude. 5'11." Man didn't know what he was doing adjusting it. As I went to sit down, one last time, "40 minutes. Only 28 dollars." FINE. Just do that. Considering you won't GIVE IT UP. Massage was good. Accomplished what I needed to relieve the spasm. Went to pay. "No tax if you pay with cash." That's fine, I had cash. Couldn't get a receipt though, so that one's off the books... good business here.... "20% minimum tip. 6 dollars more." Of course it is. But where is the sign that says that? I would typically tip well, but after his unyielding harassment that I get a longer massage, I had decided otherwise for his tip. Wow what a huge disappointment. First of all, I question the cleanliness of this place. The floor was filled with dirt and dust while the towels were damp. I wonder if they reuse the towels. I don't want to write this review because typically after I do they get slammed with new clients BUT my thing is that they are great. I'm not new to reflexology or what I call "Chinese massage." You walk in and there are reclining chairs where they put about 6 people next to you. This is fully clothed so there is no happy ending to this except the pleasure of your feet feeling amaze-balls after the massage. ALSO this isn't for the light hearted who want to be pampered this is - get the kinks out, pain is pleasure. 60 mins gets you a foot soak and full blow foot and leg massage. Let me tell you I walk all over NYC and my feet are exhausted from that so this is worth every penny. Also note this is a shared space amongst other people getting a foot massage/back rub so don't be an asshole and talk or complain when the phone rings. These are how these places work. So I have been eyeing this place and decided to give it a try today. I don't understand all the negative reviews. This is NOT a high end spa and I knew that AND you're paying $28 for a foot massage!!!! The place is one big room with 6 recliners together (a couple beds behind the screen in the back) but looks clean enough and the recliners are comfortable. The massage was instant relief for my poor feet dealing with high heels at work all week. And for all those people that complain about the amount of tip.... 1) I agree that customer service is lacking (once again NOT high end spa)! but friendly enough despite the language barrier 2) Unfortunate the outwards reaction of the employees HOWEVER how would you react if you work hard kneading someone's (potentially stinky) feet for an hour and ONLY got tipped $5!!!!! Even a manicurist gets tip better! Reward these hard working people for the hour they spend on providing relief for our tired feet!! Ever given your other half a massage and stopping after only a few minutes? Why? Because it is tiring and hard work!!! They would not honor the gift certificate and said if I wanted to use it I would have to add money on to it because they're prices went up. I am so tired of reading negative reviews of Lily's! I am here to clear the air! Alright- here's the run down of this delightful place that I have been frequenting for years: It is NOT a fancy place- this isn't a spa in Scarsdale where they give you a robe and light candles. This is a large, CLEAN, dimly lit room with big comfy recliners in it. When you are getting a massage, there are other people in the same room as you- usually falling asleep in a recliner. It is NOT uncomfortable at all- everyone is focused on their own massage. The massages are GREAT. You can choose between different combinations- 10 minute back + 50 minute feet. You can do a whole 60 minute feet. Or 30 + 30. You get the point. The massages are $28!!!!! This price can NOT be beat. I have been to expensive spas in Westchester County and I have been to dingy massage parlors down in Chinatown NYC and honestly, for an awesome reflexology massage, Lily's can't be beat! Now people on Yelp seem to be complaining that they walked in and couldn't get serviced right away.. and blah blah blah. In all of the years that I have been coming here, I have ALWAYS made an appointment the DAY BEFORE. Just cover your bases people- it's really simple... schedule an appointment. Then there will be no confusion. It's hard to service walk-ins anywhere- let alone a massage parlor. If you want to save money and be treated to something quite nice, I recommend Lily's. Don't expect this place to respect common courtesy. We booked three hours ahead for four people. Drove half an hour. We are finishing lunch up the street at a fine local restaurant. THEY call us 15 minutes before our appointed time, and insist that we booked half an hour later than we had agreed. Why call to tell us that? We let it go, saunter down the street, but I go ahead to ensure that we are booked at the new time. Yes, confirmed and shown our phone number in their book. There is another party of four waiting at that time. As we start toward the establishment with fifteen minutes before the new time, they call and tell us to come an hour later. I went the half block anyway and found that they had taken the other party before us. I posted an earlier review with more detail, but my guess is that using a non-vulgar word to describe our treatment caused it to be removed. On the other hand, I suspect there is a general positive bias in Yelp, given an earlier experience. Regardless, we will never give this place our custom again.
