I had coconut milk bubble tea a few times there, and almost every time its taste was different. Sometimes they don't put enough coconut flavor in the drink so it tastes rather bitter than sweet. Also I noticed I had a weird unpleasant condition every time after I had that tea exactly, some strange excitement and tension. I guess it might be cause of a large amount of caffeine in the tea or something else they put in there. They also use powder milk. As for the service, there's one guy kind of rude. Once he made a sarcastic comment about one customer almost in front of him, he's also very slow. The rest of the stuff seems fine. These bad reviews actually shock me! And, yes, I do know what good bubble tea tastes like. First, the drinks ARE super-sweet, but they are more than happy to use less sugar if you ask. Second, their service is absolutely amazing. A tad disorganized at times... but this is their first business and it takes time to learn how to do it right. They are some of the genuinely nicest people I've met and I'm perfectly happy to extend a little extra patience in return for awesome bubble tea! Admittedly, my dorm IS down the street, so it's not a huge time commitment. Sure, they could have more vegan options (I'm vegan), but what they do have is fabulous! The popping boba are really, really cool. Hopefully they will be able to add more options to their menu... but they can only do that if business is flourishing. Not totally sure that the deal is with LimeRed. What I do know is that I waited a really long time for my bubble tea. Unfortunately for them, their set up is in such a way that you can actually see everything they are doing (or not doing). Lime Red has very good bubble tea. Every time I come to Lime Red I get a Lychee tea. Sometimes hot, and sometimes as a slush. Both are amazing. I have to say that I'm not a fan of the prices, which are a bit steep ( and why I docked one star) and the food (docked another star). Their focus is tea, and they do a good job. I think they should stick to selling safe foods that they know wont detract from their core focus (the dumplings and meat cakes most definitely taste like frozen food). read more

Is it possible to rate something 6 stars? If so, that is the rating I would give lime red. There is nothing better then after a grueling day of getting up at 6 am, going through classes, then walking from the campus to lime red, to buy fruity heaven in a disposable cup. The ambiance is very welcoming, with squishy couches, post its with bright drawings of color about how awesome lime red is. There are many different types of drinks, but I always go for the classic bubble tea. My favorite is the passion fruit iced tea, but the lychee is great too. The drink isn't very teaish, it tastes more like sugary fruit juice, in a good way. I have tried 4 different toppings. The lychee jelly is good, but i would go for the bobas. The classic bobas come with your drink. They are flavorless, circular, gray-brown gummies. They are better than they sound. The popping bobas are 50 cents extra, but quite worth the cost. They are listed on the menu as "pops" which is very confusing. They come in strawberry, mango, lychee, youghurt and many more. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!! I came here 5 consecutive days in a row. The drinks are pretty pricey, costing $5 for the bubble tea, but it is so worth it. Usually when I go after school, it's a great experience, but unfortunately today I am writing a review on an awful day. When my mom and I walked in, there was a long line but it moved relatively fast. When we got up the the counter, we noticed there were all new employees. When we ordered we could tell that he didn't know what he was doing and his manager wasn't really helping. We proceeded to wait 45 MINUTES watching our cups sit right in front of talking/spitting customers getting picked up and put back down multiple times. The manger had disappeared and left the new employees clueless and overwhelmed. We know it is not their fault, but the managers. They ran out of boba for my moms order (remember this is a BUBBLE TEA place)! Then we saw a girl that was at least 4 people behind us get her drink first. At that point we just wanted to leave. By the time we had gotten our drinks, my ice had melted and the seal on top was put on incorrectly and my mom hadn't gotten the boba she wanted. Overall I don't recommend it. Usually decently put together although recently it has been an under disaster. They've been out of nearly every topping they "offer" and they can't seem to figure out their reward system, not to mention today not even having cups. They served their iced drinks in hot cups. Loyal customers looking to redeem rewards couldn't because they can't seem to figure out their system. read more

Amherst is lucky to have LimeRed! The food and drinks are delicious. I have taken a look at the other reviews here. The most important thing that comes through to me from them and my own experiences eating there are that yes, the people running the place are caring and interested in trying to please their customers. Has it sometimes seemed to me like they are a new business and still trying to get their routines and processes figured out? Yes. I guess from there it just depends on what kind of person you are, as far as what you think about that. Me, I appreciate the good tasting food and the way I'm made to feel welcome and enjoyed as a customer. The feeling is mutual :) I was talking to them this evening about the issue of 'running out' of boba sometimes. The issue is, it takes them 2 hours to cook their boba to get it to come out tasting the way they want it to. And after that it only keeps for a few hours before it's past it's prime and they do not want to serve it. So each day they try to prepare as much as they think they will sell but not too much because they don't want to have to throw it away. Well, sometimes a big group will come in exceed their preparations for the day. Again, the key thing for me with that is, they are trying to make a product for me that is as good as possible. And when I go get a drink with their boba it's delicious :) If occasionally I can not get boba because they have run out for the day, that's something I'm willing to accept because I know it's because of their committment to make the best things possible to eat and drink, and not sell anything that's less than that. So I will keep going to LimeRed when I want a yummy boba drink, and I hope they are able to stay in business for as long as they wish to :) read more

My friends and I waited 45 mins for dumplings, and our tea didn't even arrive until after we'd finished them! They gave my friend the wrong drink, and the milk bubble tea didn't taste like tea, it just tasted like milk. I think this place is pretty overpriced for powder-mix drinks and slow/lackluster service. There were four people in front of me in line yesterday. It took me more than half an hour to get my bubble tea, which wasn't mixed properly so there were weird powder particles floating around the cup. Gross. This place seems constantly understaffed. I've been going to LimeRed since my freshman year (going into my final year), and I am in there at least once a week and that staff knows me by name and order. I confess- I have a problem. While the staff has turned over, the boba drinks are still as addicting as ever! It does get crazy busy sometimes and the stress does tend to rub off on the staff but they are usually welcoming and fast. Pretty pricey compared to the boba drinks in Chinatown. read more

Loved the bubble tea here, they have a real genuine tea taste combined with a wide variety of flavors. Hot coconut milk black tea with bubbles is my favorite during the cold winter days. Service is sometimes slow but it's never because people are slacking off at least. Great place to hangout with friends or study as long as you don't mind the background noise but don't expect to go in and leave with your drink in 5 minutes unless the place is completely empty. Staff are willing to give you suggestions if you're not sure how to finish off your order. I understand why they have the hours they do, but I would die for a hot assam black milk tea when I have to work in the morning. LimeRed isn't a terrible place for bubble tea, but it's not as good as the mainstream shops, such as Teado, Kung Fu, or Chatime. Nevertheless, because it is the only bubble tea shop in Amherst, it's hard to compare it to other places in the area anyway. Their tea is OK, but they recently changed their recipe for the milk teas and for whatever reason, their original milk tea doesn't taste as good as it used to. Their tea slushies are the best IMO, especially if you ask to include ice cream. They now sell desserts, such as crepe cakes and macaroons. However, I think their macaroons and crepe cake is overpriced. I recently had a terrible experience with their green tea crepe cake. It did not taste edible at all, in fact, it tasted like it had sat out in the display case for over a day. It was very dry and the green tea definitely didn't taste like green tea. When we asked for a replacement, we were told the taste might've been altered due to refrigeration and if they were to give us a new slice, there was a pretty good chance it would taste like the one we ordered. If you go here for drinks, then it's OK, but I wouldn't go for the food itself. After my experience with their green tea crepe cake, I'm weary of trying any of their desserts as I question the quality and freshness. read more

I went there a couple times to get a thai tea. Was very excited at first because it is the only bubble tea place around Amherst. It is a little bit overpriced (a dollar more than what it should be) and the quality of their drinks isn't that great (compared to the better bubble tea places in Boston like TeaDo, Kung Fu tea, or the new Tea Baar). I have been going to Lime Red a couple times a month for the past year and have had nothing but a positive experience, great tea, best bubble tea place (and only bubble tea place) I have found in the pioneer valley. Went here this Sunday, and unfortunately had bad service and my normal order of peach bubble tea with extra boba at 25% sweetness was not on point. Tea was bitter and not at the usual sweetness of 25% and boba was over cooked. Didn't have the best server as all of the others I've had there. Usually great but experience can vary depending on who makes your tea!! read more

I will start this by saying, yes the tea is good. But everything else about this place is severely lacking. Something is wrong with the management of this place. Every single time we go, the service is terrible. Always understaffed. We have had to wait in line for way to long, to the point where we just walked out. A few times they were "out" of boba, jellies, etc. Seriously. This is what makes bubble tea, bubble tea, and you are out of it? (this was in the morning, too). We have tried to go when the hours said they should be open, but they weren't open. Overall, an extremely frustrating experience that is just not worth it. LimeRed bubble tea is off the chain... when they aren't out of boba!!

I don't normally yelp but I felt like I really had to share my experience here. This review is based on the service that was provided. I wish I could give it 0 stars. I was just in there last Saturday (which happened to be the 1st weekend when students began classes). We only had to wait 1 minute before we placed our orders for 2 bubble teas which was great. It wasn't that busy but we waited 45 minutes!!! It was ridiculous and I went up to the counter and spoke with this man and of course we are a little bit frustrated that it would take that long to just make 2 drinks. He was very rude. He basically said that they were doing an order of 300 drinks when we placed our order and they needed to get those done. OK?? First off, you still need to serve your customers who come into the store or at least inform us that it would be a wait because you were filling a bigger order. We would have not ordered if that was the case. The man at the registered basically said it would be another 5 mins and our order would be ready. So we waited... Then what frustrated me more was that I saw people who were in line 10 minutes after us walking out with their drinks. I mean, isn't it first come first serve? This is 50 minutes by the time we ordered by the way (took same amount of time, if that even longer to order food next door at Crazy Noodle). I was so upset at the level of service they provided that I just asked for a refund and while doing this (10 minutes after the man at the registered said it would be done in 5 minutes), they still didn't even make to make our simple honeydew and red bean bubble teas. COME ON NOW. Seriously? We got the refund and walked out and drove to the Northampton LimeRed and it took his less time to drive there and get our drinks then waiting here at this Amherst location. Note to management: You should really train your employees and teach them some customer service skills. read more
