Unfortunately, this was the oiliest and blandest Bun Bo Hue. My family and I am from out of town and were Asian as well. We were really hoping for some good Asian comfort food. We were disappointed as well with the pork egg roll. The meat-filled samosas were good and so were plain fried chicken wings. We also ordered the tamarind duck, which was good too. Ordered soup dumplings, and it does look promising, didn't taste that yet. But my main entree was the biggest letdown. This place is insane. Maybe I'm just used to Boston pricing, but dang it's cheap... and large portions... and the food is tasty. What a rare find! If you really want the best deal, come for the lunch special. I got so excited that I ordered both a banh mi and a pho dish. The service was great and my friend and I sat around for a while, without feeling rushed out. Definitely a casual spot and I could see lots of college students coming here during the school year. Authentic Vietnamese food in a quaint, cozy setting. One of a handful of Asian restaurants in downtown Amherst, it absolutely belongs amongst the top of list. I really like the bowls and decor here, it's really cute. The pho itself was good. It did have a little bit of and "off" taste. It wasn't gamey but tasted/smelled a tiny bit like dirty dishwater? Very good Vietnamese cuisine and a solid fix for pho! I was admittedly not expecting it to be so good, but what a nice surprise. We started off with some spring rolls (fresh shrimp, crisp vegetables, very tasty) and beef samosas (not too spicy but flavorful), then moved on to: shrimp and chicken Vietnamese-style pad thai (also very flavorful and colorful); Miss Saigon pho (a mixture of beef cuts and tripe - good tasty broth); and a vegetarian pho (which my wife said was the best tasting veggie broth she's had in a long while). I knew a snowstorm was right on my doorstep. Nothing like pho to ward off the cold. Ordered two phos and two orders of shrimp eggrolls. This was a takeout order for the next evening. Miss Saigon is a Vietnamese restaurant located in the center of Amherst on main street. Parking can be difficult but there is a good sized public lot located directly behind the restaurant. I have ordered many take outs from them and find that the affordable prices, quick and pleasant staff and the tasty food is definitely worth going back for. From the pho to the stir fried noodle dishes I have absolutely no complaints about anything I've ever tried. May I recommend the duck soup. Tasty sliced duck paired with a savory broth, vegetables and perfectly cooked noodles make for a very enjoyable dish. Give Miss Saigon a try. read more

Went here tonight for dinner stopping on the drive in before heading to our hotel. Isn't the prettiest but it was actually really good. Service was fast, like extremely fast; we got all of our food within 5 minutes or ordering. We got the shrimp spring rolls which were really good, Vietnamese pork buns--definitely recommend these were my favorite--and the chicken pho(noodle soup), also really good. All the food was delicious and the service was good(seemed to be mostly college kids: they didn't know much about the food but polite and accommodating nevertheless). Place was pretty crowded as well for a Sunday night. We ate in about 30 min which was remarkable. The only negative I have is that the menu was 10000 pages long. There were sooo many options we couldn't even get through it all. Definitely should be slimmed down. Would recommend though! read more

I would give it a zero if I could. If you like half cooked old rice and a quarter inch of grease with your stir fry, this is the place for you. After I sent the first rice back, they brought me a slightly warmer half cooked rice. I sent the stir fry back and the manager came over and I told her that the rice was badly cooked and the promised tasty stir fry sauce was nothing but cheap oil. I was later given a restaurant bill holder with no bill by the server so I presumed I wouldn't be charged for this experience but after severa minutes the server reappeared with a bill for the full charge. I complained and the manager returned and tried to get me to pay. At last she understood I wouldn't pay for my meal; my wife's papaya salad and spring rolls were at least edible so we paid for those. I am a regular here for years but have decided to stop coming because there is one particular server whose terse and indifferent attitude makes me feel like my presence is an inconvenience. I ordered Banh Mi, and it was such a disappointment, and the soups used to be better too. I think the ownership has done well there for a very long time and they take their success for granted and their heart isn't in it anymore. I came here after hearing that they had the best pho in town. After street parking, I came into a quiet atmosphere with a friendly staff seating my group straightaway. They did have a really big menu so we got two appetizers and a pho each. For appetizers, we ordered Shrimp Hakaw and Scallion Pancakes. I must say.. they were both SUPER disappointing! The Shrimp Hakaw tasted alright but we could definitely tell they were not freshly cooked. They were barely warm! The Scallion Pancakes had NO flavor and it honestly tasted like I was chewing on uncooked dough. Then we received our main meal, the Pho. It was pretty good. They come in sizes of Small or Large, which were both pretty good portion sizes. I come from Hawaii, which has lots and lots of Asian Cuisine, so I can't say I was impressed with their Pho -- it just tasted how it's supposed to taste I guess.
