My boyfriend and I go here pretty much every other night during the school year. Honeydew milk tea is pretty much the best thing in the entire world...or at least the Pioneer Valley. I've tried other flavors, like mango, coconut, thai milk tea and mocha, but honeydew is the best! I prefer the milk teas cold rather than hot, even if it's a bitter winter day. Honestly, I think the taste becomes a little off when they're warm. The boba is really good, perfect consistency. Again, I think they get a little weird in hot drinks. I've tried the red bean and lychee toppings too, which are yummy. Only tiff I have with Limered are their buns. I think they come out of frozen packages and are put in the microwave or something. Tiny, sad little things, and I once got a bun that was frozen solid on the inside. Blugh. Even so, most people come here for the delicious drinks and cute atmosphere, so mediocre snacks are forgiven. read more

I'm really surprised it has taken Amherst this long to get their very own cute Asian teahouse/bubble tea lounge. Makes me wish I could revisit my college student years because this place has a great set up as a study and hangout spot. The selection of hot and cold teas, shakes and "mix-in's" (jelly, pudding, bubbles, etc) is awesome. I ordered a black milk tea with bubbles and it was excellent--the texture of the bubbles were perfect, and the tea was not too sweet. I was only slightly annoyed that I waited about 10 minutes for my drink. Granted, the place was hopping and I could see they were taking great care in making each drink. Note: they do take credit cards but prefer cash. I appreciate that the staff was very nice about not enforcing a minimum charge, but politely informed me that cash is preferable due to the fees associated with processing cards. Kudos on the customer service! Also, they used a cool card reading device attached to an iPhone to swipe my card. I "signed" my receipt on the iPhone and they asked if I would like my receipt emailed to me. How cool is that? MM mmm! LimeRed Teahouse has a wide selection of delicious drinks on their menu that it was difficult to pick just one. I finally chose the Passion Fruit Blizzard with popping boba (juice bubbles just like gushers). It was just so rich in flavor that it didn't take long before I finished it. I also tried the Pudding Blizzard. It had a combination of ice cream and pudding. I definitely recommend this drink if you're looking for a creamier drink. Of course, if you want to take the safe route, you can't go wrong with their milk tea with tapioca. It really hit the spot for me with the extra hint of tea which added to the authenticity of a true bubble milk tea! It was cold out but the cozy atmosphere and delicious drinks kept me nice and warm. After a six mile hike all my friend wanted was a smoothie from this place. That definitely says a lot. I have maybe had bubble tea once in my life, but I figured with rave reviews from her, we couldn't go wrong. I ordered a strawberry ice with lychee in it and she had the taro with red beans blended in - as you can see, she knows what she' s doing. We also ordered a plate of chicken basil dumplings and the staff was kind enough to make sure we were okay with waiting 10 minutes for them to be prepared (they were also nice enough to come over and tell us what song was playing when they saw our shazam failures). The dumplings were definitely worth the wait. The dumplings were so light and tasty - I actually didn't need any soy sauce with them, and I'm a big fan of soy sauce. The smoothie was okay. The strawberry was a little sweet, and the lychee is a little weird as it comes up the straw, but it gave it a little something different. I don't know if I'd come back for the drinks, but I would definitely come back for the food and the friendliness of the staff. read more

Ive heard of LimeRed for quite a while before finally managing to check it out, and I'm in love. I've always been a bubble tea fan, and in California I could find it pretty much EVERYWHERE. Not so in this little town. I believe only SouperBowl and Crazy Noodles have bubble tea, but I tried the Souper Bowl one and it was... MEH. I like my boba to be slightly chewy, aka not overcooked. I find that boba here in LimeRed. I've always stuck with one simple tea - Jasmine Milk Green Tea, so I can't speak for other drinks they offer. I like how they can adjust to my taste - half the milk and half the sugar - believe it or not, such a simple request doesn't always get fulfilled... I've heard about them using powdered milk as well, yet it doesn't make the taste horribly bad. I've had better bubble tea, but here in Amherst LimeRed is the best. The place itself is nice enough for a little chat, or even for sitting down spreading out your papers and books and study, if you dont mind some noise. Nice selection of music, CLEAN BATHROOM - very important to me! My tea has always been done quickly - I've never ordered food so I can't speak for that. The people who work there are nice and friendly. I definitely will come back for more :-). Oh baby, what happened? LRT, you still have perfectly cooked tapioca and are still the best place to go to for bubble tea. I like the mixed jelly too when you run out of boba at 7PM. Your service has gotten less awkward, and you're starting to make drinks a little faster, which is what's keeping me from bringing this down two stars instead of just one. Service is still a little awkward, half the time I plan on staying, I get my drinks served in a paper cup rather than mug, or I have to go pick it up rather than get it served to me. It's not totally awful, but is inconsistent. Speaking of inconsistent.... Half the time I come here (I've lost track how many times since my first review), it's great! Just like the first time I came- sweet, flavorful, perfectly balanced- not too icy, not too watery. The lychee tea with boba was the right amount of lychee flavor and had that bite of bitterness that comes with tea... The other half..... nothing tastes like what it's supposed to. A milk tea, which is supposed to be really simple, was really unpleasant; it tasted like diesel smells. My red bean and taro drinks tasted distantly sweet, but like something indescribable and most certainly not taro or red bean, and my friend's avocado drink was plain gross (metallic?)-- though granted, the avocado wasn't on the menu and they hadn't perfected it yet. read more

LimeRed has THE best bubble tea Western Mass. I advice you go there immediately if not sooner and get a Peach or Mango Ice Crush with lychee jelly. You will not be disappointed! This is the only boba place in town, so it does the job when it comes to fulfilling craving. I really like that they give you the option to choose the amount of ice and sugar. Boba drinks are usually very sweet! so I recommend getting 50% sugar. However, compared to boba places in Boston, New York, and San Francisco, this place isn't very good. I used to come to LimeRed every other day with my buddy which was not a good idea because I got sick of bubble tea for a while after that. LimeRed to me is kind of a hit or miss type scenario. Most of the time, they're decent but sometimes they might forget to add sugar or have some weird tastes in common flavors like thai tea. Other times, they wouldn't be prepared and not have boba ready to go which would cause a long wait. Limered has always given me and my kids exceptional service, so I'm kind of disappointed to have to leave this review... but it sat with me uncomfortably for a while, so I finally decided to submit it because I thought it was important for the good of the store and its customers. I understand it was probably very hectic at the time of homecoming weekend of UMass because so many students were out and about, but I think there was some inexcusable behavior going on in the store and I feel it needs to be brought to people's attention. While I brought my young daughter and son in to grab a late night drink after they came back from some school extracurricular activities, I heard and saw some disturbing things. While some of the employees were making drinks for those waiting in line, another employee (who I think is actually a manager, I've seen her before) walked into the store reeking of smoke and alcohol. I did not catch her name exactly, but she was a larger, short woman with dirty blonde hair. When she walked into the store she was openly hollering about how she was "so fucking high and drunk" and even went on to shout at her employees about her personal sex life as she blatantly made several drinks for herself and did not stop to help her coworkers. It was clear to me at that point that not only were the customers in line made extremely uncomfortable, but any kind of family friendly atmosphere was totally shattered. My kids heard the entire thing, and I did not hesitate in leaving the store immediately. Her coworkers even seemed in disbelief and only one person behind the counter (A manager I hope) bothered to yell at her. How can this behavior be allowed in the work place? I seriously couldn't believe it myself and I find it more than just unprofessional. I have worked so many service and retail jobs and I know if someone had ever pulled something like that at my jobs, they would be fired on the spot. That kind of behavior perturbed me very deeply and I have since told many others about it. I will not be coming to Limered again unless things change. I hope that they will. read more

Everyone who works at LimeRed is very nice and always greet you with a smile, even on the rainiest of days. No sugar required; they treat their teas for you and they're always deliciously sweet. The menu's HUGE including not just tea, but ice crushes, ice blizzards, and snackie poos. They have an assortment of zesty toppings to add to your drinks as well to make every drink you have truly unique and special. Endless drink possibilities! The environment is very diverse as well. You can visit in the morning and have a completely different experience than visiting at night. In both situations, the lighting and colors of the place are bright (not dungeon-esque like Starbucks). It's quiet in the morning and peaceful, and in the afternoon or at night, it's a hot spot bustling with folks wanting nothing but delicious drinks n' such. It's a lovely place to bring a bunch of friends or one friend for some intense conversation-ish. Oh! Dates can be cute here too, f'real. The helpings are good for their cost and they're timely with their orders even when it would appear as if there are a lot of people. I'd highly recommend trying out this establishment. The tea is mediocre. Not great. Not the worst. Better than what you can get elsewhere in the area. The food is... Well, let's start with the fact that the person who made it had to ask another person working there if the food looked cooked to him. I mean, sure, if you're new or whatever and have to do that that's fine. But please don't do that where I can hear you. I'd like to at least think you're confident in not undercooking meat. Worse: the experienced coworker didn't even look at it, and just said "if you followed the directions it's good". Even worse: it came out cold. Well, certainly not warm. From the combination of the cashier knowing that it takes exactly 11 minutes for my food to be ready and the texture/taste of the food I'm pretty sure that all the food they serve are just frozen buns/dumplings that you can get at Asian grocery stores. That's cool, I guess, but not when you charge the prices they do. EDIT: The owner wrote me a nice message regarding this review. Turns out the employees were both trainees and the supervisor was out at the time. Completely reasonable---LimeRed is not the only establishment in the town of Amherst that has dips like these on weekend afternoons when the employees are part time, inexperienced and generally not working to their usual standards---and I do appreciate his nice message. read more

I usually like it here but today was different. They got my order wrong, and everyone looked sick. The man making my bubble tea was sneezing and looked like he had really bad allergies. There was dust everywhere and even the customers kept sneezing. The bubble tea was amazing though, even though the order was wrong! Limered Teahouse won me over from the get go with their almond milk bubble tea back when they first opened around late January-early February 2011. I've been a regular customer ever since. The drinks are great (aside from their bubble tea assortments, they also have a great variety of good quality tea that they dub "artisan tea"), the food is great, but most importantly, they're run by the friendliest, overall awesome group of young entrepreneurs ever. Everyone is made to feel welcomed and comfortable...it's like a neighborhood locale...that place in the corner where everyone knows your name (OK, cheesy reference to Cheer:)) With its spacious, simple, clean and sunny setting, it's become the default place for most my friends I to socialize, work and enjoy some tea, buns and dumplings while we're at it. Last but not least, I highly recommend the peanut and sesame buns and shrimp dumplings (shiu mai) that they have on their secret menu. Best place in western MA for some good boba! Ever since I found LimeRed, I've been making the effort to drive through springfield, MA to get some yummy, yummy bubble milk tea. I've stuck to the Assam milk tea (really just black milk tea??) and its been pretty solid. The place is usually empty whenever I stop by, and makes for a decent place to sit down and get some work done. The only con is that it closes SUPER early. Lime Red is a great place to stop for a refreshing beverage. They're big, colorful, comfortable, clean, and their staff is incredibly friendly and will often go out of their way to help. They also have hand drawn art made by their customers hung up all over the place which is awesome. That said, they're also a popular college hangout so they can get pretty jam-packed when school is in which can make them uncomfortable and claustrophobic. I also kinda feel like an @$$hole paying $5-plus for a cup of strawberry/mango iced tea, but it's effing delicious so whatever. Since they're in Amherst I don't get to stop here often, which saves me moneys, and makes their delicious tea more of a treat. If you're a local, you might as well hand over your PIN number and tell them "here, take all my moneys". Either way you should stop by some time and throw some of your hard earned dough their way. This LimeRed made me fall in love with bubble tea! I had previously tried boba when I was little and hated it, but I'm glad I tried it again when I was in the Amherst area for school. I was pretty boring and got the same two or three flavors every time I came here but they were always super yummy. The store itself is cute and has a cozy atmosphere. Occasionally the lines/wait are a little long but it's never been too terrible. They fill their walls with post-it notes from customers. My favorite was a drawing of "Boba Fett." Honestly, I didn't realize how much I liked the bubble tea from here until I moved across the country, tried a couple more bubble tea places, and really didn't enjoy them at all. I'm a big fan of tea and asian (especially Japanese) cuisine. Today I took my wife for a surprise date to LimeRed Teahouse. I had the Assam bubble tea, and she had the mocha. Both were not just okay, or palatable, but delicious and refreshing. Don't be fooled by the cutesy cups they come in, the bubble tea is an absolute delight on a hot day. I admit the milk was not exactly creamy, but the tea itself came through as the real star in my drink. As for the mocha bubble "tea" that my wife got, it was a nice surprise to actually get a MOCHA taste. Mocha is more than just coffee and chocolate people, and LimeRed seems to get that. The right kind of chocolate bitter with a dark coffee taste to compliment. But!!! Where LimeRed really shines were the dumplings. Call them whatever you want, the dumplings were amazing. No frozen prepackaged mystery meat dumplings here - fresh tasting ingredients with both strong flavor and a variety of texture. Try getting 8 fresh dumplings as tasty as these anywhere in amherst for the same price and you will not do as well. We also ordered a trio of bean-paste buns for desert. While my wife is not a fan of the bean paste as a dessert, she did put up a fuss when I tried to eat a while second bun without cutting it in half for her. read more

Came here with some buddies on a slow afternoon. I got the grapefruit green tea - the tea was oversteeped and bitter, tasted like no syrup/sweetener was added, and grapefruit juice flavor was very minimal. There was a good amount of boba though. We also got a classic black milk tea which had a good amount of boba with the right texture and cooked perfectly. Unlike the green tea, the black tea was a tasty blend, & not over steeped. read more

wow what a difference! Lime red has certainly made some changes! Coming back to school after the summer break, I decided to try lime red again. Their manager had actually messaged me on Yelp, addressing my initial review. He stated that there were some changes being made to Lime Red, and told me that if I was willing to check it out again, my drink would be on them. I was skeptical at first, haha. But after returning to Lime Red I have to say that they have definitely improved. Their bubble tea service has improved leaps and bounds compared to last yr. My drink came quite quickly after I ordered, and it was delicious!! (haha i recommend trying the mango coconut :P) Lime red is a casual sit-down bubble tea place where you can just choose a table to sit at to hang out with friends or enjoy a conversation with a special someone ;) I was very surprised that Joe (the owner) actually read my review and messaged me with his thoughts. Since my first visit, I never stopped coming back. One the best places to get bubble tea! It had become my addiction. I even take my whole family there! What makes it even better is that they always reward you for coming back, which is great for me and my family. We always buy six drinks each visit and nothing beats that! Ever since it was introduced to me, my all time favorite has always been the cold peach bubble tea with matcha jelly and 50% sugar. For the blisses, taro almond with boba. I even have different favorites when it comes to hot drinks. The choices are endless! You never really know what you get when you mix around drinks! On top of the great variety of delicious drinks, they have a great staff! Very friendly and makes you feel right at home. I was psyched when LimeRed open because I LOVE bubble tea. Also, Amherst is sorta small and usually lacks joints like this. LimeRed is trendy and brings out the young crowd, but provides a nice selection of cold and hot teas, and authentic tea blends too. The place is run by relatively young men, which is probably why there are some problems they experience. The wait can be VERY long and sometimes they run out of ingredients. Also, they've hassled me for not having cash before, which I understand because of cost, but this is a college town--kids don't carry cash anymore. The bubble tea is good, not great. Solid, but not spectacular. I like LimeRed but i dont LOVE LimeRed. You should check it out if you like bubble tea, though. There aren't many other options around for it. read more

This little tea house is such a good idea, but it will fail because it is so poorly run. They open at noon and tell you it will take 20 minutes for potstickers because they have to boil the water. (Hint: open, it means "ready": start boiling at 11:30?) They served a meat potsticker with my vegetarian ones and didn't realize it or apologize when I pointed it out. In the wall are empty IKEA frames, turned this way and that as if they are art. My friend suggested this was a "statement." I don't think so. I've gone twice with my friend and we are usually among the first customers for the day. It has taken up to 15 minutes to get our drinks. Good location, good concept, good people who should maybe be in some other business. Poor execution. I can't recommend it. read more

Limered is not the most amazing bubbletea place in the universe but it sure has its own charm. Milk related drinks: I only tried wow green bean which was nice but not too impressive. Matcha with milk is better in my opinion, you can taste the pretty texture of matcha powder blending in with the boba; such a pleasant feeling. I wouldn't recommend the drink hot though. Tea: I love their giant collection of teas! You can certainly ask them to cold brew it for you and add some boba as you like. Some of my friends like the idea while others don't. I tried the jasmine pomegranate (green tea leaves) and something monkey (white tea I believe) and both times came out pretty tasty. I'm more of a sweet person so I usually ask them to sweeten my drink a little bit. Boba: is good, nothing insanely amazing about it. However, the few instances they put honey on it (and I understand that it's expensive to do so everyday all day), the boba is an epic win! The buns are so so but cheap for the serving they give! Service: I love this place for a few good reasons: stamp card - 10th drink is free! The interior is pretty neat, sometimes you will hear really good music playing free wifi! Extra clean bathroom! Take credit cards! Really nice staff! There was one instance that I asked for a drink and had a minor miscommunication with the cashier which I ended up getting my drink without milk so he made me a new drink for free. Or this other time the staff offered me a new drink since it took me a while to finish my drink and he thought it wasn't as good as it should be. The hours of operation are really convenient as well. As for the wait? I didn't find it a problem. Sure it might be really hectic during busy hours but that's the same everywhere else. read more
