Great care for my two dogs! They love Happy Tails as well and love the extra attention !

This was once the best veterinarian in the area. Now it's become expensive and very uncaring. The Vet I had the misfortune to be assigned was the most unfeeling, insensitive "doctor" I have ever experienced. They barked at me at every one of my concerns and was rude and demanding. I also was ordered to put my pet to sleep by this person. Unfortunately this was the end result. The girls at the desk and the techs are very kind however. But I will never go to Limerick Vet ever again even though I have been with them since the 80's. I do not recommend. They aren't what they used to be. read more

I have been taking my Rottweilers to Limerick Vet for over 20 years, and have experienced nothing but exceptional care. The doctors and techs are very thorough in explaining everything, and they have truly cared about my dogs. We have been bringing our dogs to Limerick Vet / Happy Tails for almost 20 years. The service with the Vets and Happy Tails has been good. However, I think they maybe under new management and have become overly confident in over charging their clients. Two visits in the past 2 months : 2 30lb 1 year old Shiba Inus: - Annual Visit with shots: $901 - 1 day at Happy Tails, 24 hrs: $334 * * We were charged two days instead of one. We would have picked them up the same day, but they close early on Saturdays and don't open until 0930 on Sunday. Also the daily rate that was charged was $10 higher than what was on the paperwork. Plus the additional $10.50 / day disposal fee for each dog. The dogs were suppose to be in one kennel for a discount and the discount wasn't applied Buyer beware. read more

We love one particular vet here. For that vet, five stars. We rescue senior dogs, some of whom have medical issues. Our favorite vet is great about being realistic about what can and cannot be done to help them, and together we do all we can to give the dogs a happy and comfortable life for the time they are with us. Some of the other vets can be very unkind to pet owners who are dealing with difficult situations. On one occasion, I brought in a 14-year-old dog who had bloody diarrhea (who turned out to be dying) for emergency treatment. The doctor had agreed to see us on an emergency basis, but then yelled at me for causing her to miss an owners' meeting. She didn't properly attend to the dog and acted like the bloody diarrhea was too yucky for her to deal with, then sent me home to care for her myself. (That was not my first negative experience with that particular vet.) A trip later that day to a different animal hospital revealed my baby was in multiple organ failure and needed to be euthanized. Today, we brought a 16-year-old Shih-Tzu in for euthanasia because the issue he came to us with had run its course. This vet did the job, then shamed me because the dog was not well-groomed, even though I had explained I do the grooming and I had broken my hand, and have just now reached a point where I could start grooming again. We also had been bathing him frequently to help relieve his condition, which caused his hair to become a bit matted in places. I thought she was very insensitive under the circumstances. For them, one star. The staff here are all wonderful, both the desk assistants and the techs who help with treatment. Five stars for the staff. read more

We have on occasion used Limerick Vet in the past for an emergency situations that have come up with our dogs. Every experience has been amazing. Last week I brought my 10lb dog (after seeing my normal vet 2 days prior) for an emergency situation. They decided to keep him and push IV fluids and medications due to him not being able to keep even water down. After spending one night they were able to diagnose his problem and provide the surgery that he needed. While my boy was in the hospital, I received numerous phone calls each day on his progress. They even texted me pictures each night. Thank you Limerick Vet for giving my boy the love and care that he needed. You saved his life! read more

If you want to overpay and feel like you are getting nickel and dimed then definitely take your pet here. The care my dog has received has been good, but he has only really ever gone in for basic care. Dr. Fluger is very thorough. My complaints are around the fact that they are very expensive and aren't clear up front about all the extra charges. A basic well exam with minimum vaccines and medicines was over $800. read more

Took several different pets here for almost 15 years and couldn't be more disappointed with my recent experiences. The wouldn't let me come in with my resuce (who is afraid of everything) during the pandemic. I waited in my car for 45 mintues, the vet finally called and she lost her connection 3 times. After the 3rd disconnect she didn't both to call me back. Just left me sitting for another 1/2 hour. I had to track someone down to get my dog. I got stuck in traffic yesterday on the way to my appointment and as a courtesy I called to say I'd be about 10 minutes late due to traffic. Mind you I'm always early and they ALWAYS make me wait a minimum of 20 minutes after my appointment. They told me that if I wanted them to see my 11 year old dog that I would be charged an additional $30 working fee. Really for being late once in 15 years???? They didn't care at all that I said you're really willing to terminate my business over $30? They didn't care, emailed me my records for my girls. Great way to make your clients feel appreciated. We've been taking our pets to Limerick for over a decade even though they are expensive compared to any other local vet. We recently boarded them with Limerick for five days. We're certain they mixed up our dogs medicines while boarding them due to confusion as to their names when we picked them up. A week later our elder dog died of kidney failure. After being confronted rudely by the vet on call asked to discussed the situation with our normal vet, Dr McKinley. Front desk told us the Dr had no time to discuss deceased pets. Avoid this place and take your pets elsewhere. read more

My 17 year old boy kitty was put to sleep yesterday here. Over the past 5 weeks, the vets, techs and front desk people have been superb. When he was in the hospital, I called 2x a day for check-ins, and they always had time to tell me how he was doing. The vet called everyday with an update, and even the front desk people knew him, and told me about cuddles he was given. After I brought him home, there were situations where I had to call back. Calls were always returned, and I was always treated respectfully. When the time came for final decisions to be made, the vets were very informative, and supportive. I had plenty of time to say goodbye to my beloved boy, and held him as he slipped away. My heart is heavy right now, but I know he was in kind, gentle hands for the end time of his life. Killed a dog named Red who was brought in to be euthanized by her unstable foster. This vet made zero effort to confirm ownership before destroying this perfectly healthy dog that belonged to a rescue. Red was microchipped to the rescue and all paperwork linked her to the rescue. What vet allows someone/anyone to walk in the door with a perfectly healthy dog and say "I want this dog euthanized right now" ? and they go through with it!?! Especially, not knowing if this person is the animals owner! Horrifying! This vet clinic should not be working with animals if this is an example of there ethical standards! I wish I could give them zero stars but that isn't an option. When I moved to the area I heard some friends recommend this place, but after my horrible experience and after reading the reviews here I am glad I am not the only person who agrees that this place is horrible. It seems they care more about money then animals. There is no communication and the manager is completely unprofessional and rude. When I got a new 2 month old puppy from a rescue I was so happy! After bringing him home I noticed some symptoms that were not normal such as mucous in the nose and eyes, sneezing and lathargy. I decided to call limerick vet one night around 9:30 or so, the vet said that they would call the doctor on call and I could come in since I was very worried and his symptoms has persisted and gotten worse. After taking him there and explains to the doctor all his symptoms and my extreme concern for the 2 pound 2 month old baby chihuahua, he told me it was nothing to be too worried about and that it was a "upper respotory infection" and send me home with amoxicillin. I told him the puppy was vomitting and couldn't keep fluids or food down and still he sent him home after giving him fluids in his back to keep him hydrated. I explained my concern to him about parvo and asked if there was a test we could do. He still sent us away. No blood test, no stool sample. Just amoxicillin. He didn't take my concern very seriously and didn't seem to be worried. He told me that it didn't look like parvo and that it's very rare and he was almost certain that is wasn't. We went home and the vomitting got worse, the symptoms persisted and new symptoms emerged. I called the next day and they simply said they wanted to hospitalize him which would be over 500 dollars. After spending 260 dollars the night prior on something that clearly wasn't working, I didn't want to give them a dime more. The rescue ended up taking him back and their vet immediately did blood work, a stool sample and thought it was parvo just as I had suspected. He died a day later at the rescue. A week later after I had mourned the loss of my new baby boy I called limerick vet. I spoke to a receptionist who said that she would have the manager call me the next day since she wasn't in. I didn't hear anything for a week so I called back. They told me she had just gotten back from vacation when I was never told that to begin with and she would call me back. When she finally did call me back she had the audacity to tell me it was the rescues responsibility to pay for the vetting when I asked for a refund for misdiagnosing my puppy and even questioned if my story was true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She argued with me on the phone and refused to refund me. I will never go back to this place ever again. If my pup has been correctly diagnosed from the first sign he may have had a chance at survival and could have been treated properly instead of just throwing antibiotics at me and sending me home. It's pure negligence and my pure concern for parvo didn't seem to phase Doctor nikol. Don't go here unless you want to throw all your money away on idiots who don't know what they're doing. Dr. Donahue provided excellent care for my recently trapped, 8 week old kitten. He hisses when approached by people but the dr and techs were able to give him love and said he was well behaved during his first kitten appointment. Now just hours later he already seems much more comfortable with people and is starting to approach me! Highly recommend! read more

I knew of LVH because a old acquaintance of mine brought her cat in years earlier for an emergency. So when my cat was in distress, it was the first place I thought of. They are a full service emergency hospital, 24/7/365. I called at 9:00 on a Friday night, the on-call doctor, Dr. Nicol, called me back at 9:15. Even though I wasn't a current client, he told me to come and he arrived before I did at 9:30. My cat had a urinary and bladder blocked as well as (later diagnosed) kidney issues. In an extreme amount of pain, Dr. Nicol and the nurses immediately brought him back and worked on him. When I called to check on him at 2:00 in the morning, the nurse knew my cat and already knew his status without having to look it up. If the cat wouldn't have been brought in that night he might not have made it. The care here is spectacular. You can tell these people really care, and are A+ medical professionals. The previous reviews are right. This hospital is pretty pricey, but if you love your animals as much as I do, and you can afford their costs, I recommend LVH. Especially in an emergency. read more

The Happy Tails boarding service lost our dog and we never found him. We took our chihuahua there for boarding and we received a call the next day that they took him out for a walk and he slipped off the leash. They told us he ran away from the person walking him and they were unable to find him. We searched for him for several weeks (actually months now) of a pet rescue service but, we never found him. This was back in March and we had some really cold days so we are not sure if he died from the cold or if someone picked him up. Consider this please before you take your pet there. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I took my puppy here to get his shots, his first visit came to like $170 something okay fine, a little pricey for what I was getting done, they say come back in 3-4 weeks to get a booster and a flu shot. Ok I schedule; I figure how much could it cost me for 1 booster shot and 1 flu shot. I'm expecting no more than $75 at the most especially because he was literally just there. I just left there today and my total was $230! For 2 friggen immunizations??? Seriously? They said every time you go it's a mandatory $73 cost for a well visit no matter what, even if you don't want it because he's a puppy. Then they acted like they were giving me 2 more samples of nexguard and the heart worm but they snuck that in there at an inflated cost as well. They really rack up the cost it's ridiculous you literally pay for every single step you make when you walk through their doors. If your dog farts while you are sitting there it's a $25 fee. Tip: If you are planning to go here just make sure you ask for a complete print out of the cost before you let them treat your dog because you'll end up with a bill that was more than you asked for. read more

Terrible experience! I took my dog here for a vaccination. They called me a few days later to say the gave him the wrong vaccine and told me to bring him in for the correct one. I did and they assured me that there was no danger in the Lyme vaccine they gave him in error. A few weeks later I brought him back in since he was not eating, lethargic and not wanting to go on walks. They insisted it had nothing to do with the vaccine. My dog was later diagnosed with an immune disorder and there is plenty of documentation that Lyme vaccines can cause this. When I contacted them they said it was inconclusive and to take it up with their insurance carrier. We had to put our dog down due to this illness that could have been avoided if they took action when he was first sick after they gave him the WRONG VACCINE! Stay away from Limerick. read more

See this sweet little face, when I showed up for my appt the staff came out with TWO MUZZLES, they deemed him dangerous because he was a Rottie rescue BEFORE they even met him, WHY? Because they wanted to line their pockets with cash in fact they were promoting their own dog training and day care. To explain, instead of being kind to my rescue, the who thanks to Opportunity barks guidance and compassion saved his life breaking though all of his barriers while he was always a sweet dog he had not boundaries and limitations and you could not communicate with him through a leash b/c he was petrified of collars and leashes (our previous trainer from Cesar Milan could not reach him). This dog with a heart of gold but due to his background starving on the streets of Norristown feasting on garbage and a total skeleton when we rescued him from SPCA he was untouchable around his neck....instead of showing love and compassion they poked fun a this confirmation (he feet are pigeon toed who cares I did not rescue him to "show" him) without any knowledge of what Opportunity Barks they belittled what they did for Max...when I challenged the Vet based upon facts instead of money (promoting their own "dog training which they claimed was based upon "positive" reinforcement which again cannot be squared with slapping a muzzle on my dog and frighting my dog). instead of answering my questions like a profession, he abruptly cut off the conversation and in his own words "I am hanging up now" ...very mature. When Max was returned Max he was utterly frightened, shaking and biting himself, I recommend Trooper Vet who showed compassion and NO muzzles even brought treats to soothe Max. Tellingly, no negative comments instead tellingly even went smoothly and they applauded both myself and Opportunity Barks for saving Max's life because ALL dogs deserve a chance :) read more

Limerick has been my 2 dogs' main vet and one of my dogs' boarding service for the last few years but we've recently transferred over to another vet. We've had some issues with Limerick Vet...a bit ago, one of my dogs got attacked by another neighborhood dog and sustained some injuries to her neck area. It was a Sunday evening so we called Limerick Vet's emergency line to see if there was anyone that would be willing to come in to see her but when the vet called us back, they told us that it wasn't necessary to bring her in and that we simply needed to clean the wound. Instead of taking that terrible advice, we took her to Metropolitan in Trooper where it was confirmed that her injury was a little more serious than simply cleaning the wound and my dog ended having to get stitches on her neck. We also have had some unsavory experiences with their boarding service in the last year. My dog was always happy to come to Happy Tails but the one time my dog's paw had swelled up and got infected. Happy Tails did not notice her paw nor did they notify us anything was wrong with her. We accepted it as a fluke but just about 2 months ago, we boarded her there again and we received a call on the first day that my dog had split her tail open and that it was bleeding. Limerick said they would keep an eye on it but they clearly did not. We called in to check in on her and none of the staff knew what was going on with her tail and when I asked for them to physically check on her, they went as far as to say that they didn't see any laceration on her tail at all. Of course when we went to pick her up at the end of her stay, we took one look at her tail and could definitely see where she wounded herself. I liked Limerick Vet and Happy Tails a lot when we first started going here, the staff are friendly and nice but after these various situations, I'm not a fan anymore. At the end of the day, actions speak louder than words and I can't really put my pup or my trust in them anymore. read more

I think the world of Limerick Vet Hospital. Their vets, while pricey, really DO care about your best friend. And if you're someone like me, that means the world to you, and is worth any cost. I give them 5 stars because I think the quality of care they provide is worth it to me; some other people might not feel the same way. Just know that going in and don't be shocked by the bill. I've been taking my corgi here for as long as we've owned him, and before I picked a vet I did extensive research. He probably gets better medical care than I do. I can call Limerick 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and there is always someone on call - a great thing for a worried dog "mom" who just found out her best friend ate half a dozen onion bagels, or a whole Subway chocolate chip cookie (he's done both of these things). Recently, he got sick and we couldn't figure out why, so I took him in to have him looked at - the vet told me she didn't think he was impacted (my biggest concern) and would probably be right as rain in a few days, and gave me the option of having x-rays done (or waiting a few days and seeing if he improved before doing them). When I asked her how much they where she didn't flinch - she told me they were going to be an additional $200. Being the anxious person I am, I elected to have the x-rays done - but when she came in afterwards, she patiently explained everything on them to me, including the fact that he has the beginnings of an arthritic back, etc. - and walked me through what we should think about in the days/weeks/years to come. I couldn't say better things about Limerick vet. I love this place, and your pet will too (though your wallet might disagree). If you are a devoted pet owner who wants the best and doesn't care so much about $$$, this is the place to go. read more

This review is really for Limerick Vet's lodging facility called Happy Tails. Happy Tails sits directly behind the main veterinary hospital and they take both daycare pets and lodging (overnight) pets. We've boarded our Jack Russell here several times over the past couple of years and I always feel comfortable leaving my pet here. They accept dogs, cats, birds, and other small animals. Your pet stays indoors in a climate controlled facility and someone is always on-site. Dogs are taken outside at least three times per day for walks and to go potty, although you have the option of increasing that for an additional cost. You are not allowed to bring your own bedding or toys, but they have plenty of soft bedding for your animal to lay in. They offer additional services for a price for things like grooming, playtime, one-on-one time, etc. They do charge extra if they have to administer any meds to your pet. You can either bring your own food and treats or they will supply the food (they use Science Diet). My pet has never returned home sick, but does usually lose his "voice" for a few days. We also always have him groomed, which they will do the day before you are scheduled to pick up your pet. You can request they be groomed the day you pickup, but then you usually can't pickup until after 3PM. I would say it's a bit pricey and you can likely find cheaper alternatives, but I like knowing that my pet will be safe, cared for, and vets are right there in the event of an emergency. This is an all around wonderful lodging facility with a friendly staff. read more

I have taken my dog to LVH for the last eleven years. They are very professional and caring. I can't believe the negative reviews that I've read here. My dog had cancer and some other health issues and had to be put down recently. It was handled in such a compassionate way, we were really touched. They made an awful situation the best that it could be. I even got a handwritten sympathy note from the vet, which included paw prints from my pet. This meant so much to us. read more

I was visiting my family over Christmas and brought my cat home with me. Unbeknownst to me, she had a run-in with a Christmas tree branch and must have gotten poked in the eye which resulted in eye discharge. I called their 24 hour on-call line and asked the helpful vet tech if I should bring her in right away. The tech was very helpful and consulted the veterinarian that was on-site and told me not to worry and to bring her in the next day. The animal hospital is clean and well organized! Dr. Hanning saw my cat and knew right away what was the issue. They have a pharmacy on-site and I was able to get eye ointment right away. She also clipped my cats nails for free! Great service, very friendly font desk staff. The prices were very reasonable as well. read more

I've brought my small dog, Jingles, here for a couple of procedures and for overnight boarding when I'm on vacation. I like that they offer different packages for boarding to help ensure my dog is happy and comfy. The staff are professional and seemed to really care about my dog's well-being. I haven't read the other reviews, but I see no way how the Limerick vet could possibly have an average 3 star review. Our Sharpei, Petunia was experiencing GI tract issues and LVH was the only local vet able to take her in at 7:30PM on a Friday without charging an emergency fee. They got her in, diagnosed her with some x ray images, and provided a quote that made my wife and I shutter considering we just finished paying off our last pet emergency surgery that same day! Long story short... they completed the necessary surgery on Petunia, fixed the issue at hand, and charged us only 1/2 of the originally quoted price. Thank God! Petunia was happy after the surgery and all the vets, nurses and techs treated her with great care. On her return visit they got her in quickly, removed the staples, and sent us on our way. From start to finish it was a great experience and we are now committed to a new local veterinarian. Thanks LVH! read more

This facility is impeccably clean and ran by some of the most friendly staff I have ever encountered. I was able to make a same day emergency appointment. The wait in the lobby was minimal. In July, my cat needed a left femoral hip surgery, because he took an awkward jump. After taking think to an emergency vet elsewhere (At the time I was not aware that Limerick had an emergency service), I decided to find another vet in my area to do the surgery. I called around quite a bit and Limerick had the most reasonable price and they were able to take him immediately, the next day, whereas surrounding vets required at least a week wait. The surgery went smoothly, I was able to call Limerick Veterinary clinic whenever I wanted to check up on my cat, and they would go and actually check on him, and let me know how he was doing. This Thanksgiving, my cat took another awkward fall, another freak accident, so I immediately called the Limerick Vet's emergency hotline (on Thanksgiving day). I was extremely upset and still in shock, but the receptionist comforted me, I couldn't have asked for more. My cat ended up needing a femoral hip surgery on his other leg. I had the same Doctor, Dr. Nichol, who remembered my cat from the last surgery. My cat is going into surgery tomorrow (The Dr. was able to get get him into surgery the next day, which is amazing). I can rest easy tonight, because I know he is in great hands. I definitely recommend this vet, especially for emergencies and surgeries. I think the receptionists, doctors, and technicians are great. Their prices are very reasonable. They easily deserve 5/5 read more

We had to have our sweet little dog put down a month ago. I have to vent about something. It was painful enough that we had to do this but after it was all done and we were leaving I looked at the bill and we were charged an extra $120.00 because it was Sunday. Does anyone else find this practice unaceptable and disgusting? It was not our dogs fault that she fell ill on a Sunday. I personally think that Limerick Veterinary Hospital should be ashamed of themselves for price gouging when people are too distraught to do anything about it. I have got to this same place for over 16 years and had all three of my dogs put down there. One of them was actually on Easter Sunday and there was no extra charge. Do your self a favor, stay away from this place. Dr. Nicol is the only Doctor my family has trusted there. I feel bad for him. He should get himself to better Veterinary Hospital. Completely disgusted with the careless "mistake" if you would like to call it, which led my poor little cat to his death. My guy was 18 years old and only struggled with arthritis in his little bones. He had blood taken and everything looked healthy and surprisingly normal. If someone was more aware of the dosage they provided my family to give to Poncho, he would still be with us. He died of excess medication that his body couldn't handle and quickly KILLED him. An OVERDOSE of medication. My blood is still boiling. One negligent human being killed my cat. They know what they did and have apologized for their stupid actions. I would hate to see any other family lose a pet not because of sickness, but because of being over medicated. read more

I have been taking my babies to Limerick vets for at least 30 years. I'm sure all the vets are awesome but my particular favorites are Dr. Nichol, Dr. Hanning, and Dr. Pfluger. The whole staff is very nice and professional. I recently had to put my 15 year old Maltese to sleep and I had to see a Dr. That had never seen my girl before. When she came in she said Tess must have been one special girl because although she didn't know her, everyone else that worked there did and they were all stopping by to see her. The front desk ladies were coming back to the room to give me hugs. The visits are not cheap but it is a true hospital and in an emergency situation they can run most tests from there. You get what you pay for and at Limerick you are paying for the best. read more

I am disgusted. I went in with my fiancé to get our dogs ears looked at. The nurse came in and quickly swabbed our dogs ears. She then proceeded to bring it back to get looked at under the microscope. Coming from someone who doesn't go to the vet much more than for vaccines, I thought this was part of my visit price. When the doctor came out with medication for my dogs ear infection, I asked the price of the medication. She told me it would be about $70 dollars total. Perfect. I walk to the front desk to be told my bill was $220! How did my $70 medication and $50 or $60 visit equal out to $220? Well, no one told me the SWABBING and MICROSCOPE would equal close to $100-$120. When I confronted the front desk woman about it, she went to get the doctor. The doctor said really sweet "I heard you're having a problem?" I told her my issue. She brought me into the exam room and told me it was MY fault for not asking how much everything was. She told me she is not required to tell me prices during my visit! She attacked me (probably because my fiancé had left the vet with the dog in the car so I was by myself) She told me I should have asked. And that if I was so 'worried' about finances that I should have asked the nurse. Fuck that. Never going to them again. Who doesn't tell you what you're paying for BEFORE you pay for it? And then BLAME their clients. Sneaky, unprofessional ass holes. Good luck keeping business acting like that. read more

Very pleased with services and treatment of my two adopted cats. Vet care is not cheap and when I brought previously a cat that was rescued and thought to be a kitten, the vet informed me that the cat was at least 5 years old and would be difficult to socialize and that she needed major dental care which was expensive. I made the decision to pay the fee to help the poor cat but chose afterwards to return the cat to the adoption agency. The vets and the staff have always been friendly and I will continue to patronize their veterinary hospital. read more

2 very bad experiences. Years ago we brought our cat in to get fixed, and it wasn't until after the surgery that we were told they found that she was pregnant during surgery, had to terminate her pregnancy, and then charged us significantly more for the procedure. She is an indoor cat, but It seemed possible she that could have gotten out without us knowing. Years later we brought our dog in who had developed a cherry eye, and were told that the surgery would be purely cosmetic and very expensive, so we passed. About a year after that she developed a severe ear infection that a vet t Limerick prescribed ear drops for, but the infection only got worse and they then wanted to do surgery. While we were visiting family in DE we took her to a vet hospital there for a second opinion. That vet told us that the ear drops we had didn't do anything. She gave us new drops that did work for awhile, but did end up needing the surgery that the DE vet did, and the cherry eye surgery, for less than what Limerick wanted to charge. We will never be bringing another animal to Limerick Veterinary Hospital, and I would suggest that you think twice before bringing your pet here. read more
