Also ordered a side of guacamole. The star of the show however was the blackberry sangria.. Atmosphere was really cozy and loved all the beautiful paintings on the wall. Food came out really fast. They had a table with all the fixings. We had a good time. On our way out, picked another bottle of wine. Always so many choices. So excited for the coming season of events. Will definitely be back. A great place for good wine, quiet surroundings and tasty nibbles. Highly recommend everyone visit.

White Silo Farm & Winery is a rustic farm, vineyard & winery that opened in Sherman, Connecticut in…read more2000. It was opened by the Gorman family, including Ralph and his son Eric. Ralph has a degree in engineering and had previously worked as an engineer, a chemistry teacher, a physics professor and a consultant. He grew bored, wanted to try something different, so in 1985 he decided to purchase a 17-acre parcel of farmland in Sherman that had previously been part of Upland Pastures dairy farm. The Gorman family intended to continue the farming tradition and preserve the land for generations to come. They planted crops of raspberries, blackberries and rhubarb. The circa 1780 dairy barn and silo were completely renovated and converted into a tasting room and production area. By 2000, the winery opened to the public. The initial wines made available were fruit (non-grape) wines, crafted from their own farm-grown fruit. The Gorman family planted their first grape vineyard in 2010 and additional grapevines were planted in 2016. My wife and I visited White Silo this past weekend. To celebrate my wife's birthday, I took her for a drive in Western Connecticut to see the fall foliage and explore some wineries. This was our first visit to White Silo and it was our first stop of the day. The property was lovely and the interior of the barn was very charming. We decided to order some wine flights so we could sample several of the winery's offerings. Between the two of us, we sampled their "Upland Pastures White", "Rhubarb", "Sparkling Red Raspberry", "Upland Pastures Red", "Farm White", "Upland Pastures Rosé", "Blackberry Sangria", and their "Apple Cider". We decided to purchase bottles of our two favorites (the "Sparkling Red Raspberry" and the "Apple Cider") to take home. White Silo also offers light food options as well. We shared the winery's "Hummus Plate" and "Gourmet Boxed Lunch" while we enjoyed our flights. The boxed lunch, which changes seasonally, included a turkey sandwich made with arugula and White Silo mustard, quinoa salad, a mini cheese plate, mixed nuts, and a chocolate turtle bar. It was the perfect amount of food to enjoy with our wine samples. Overall we had a very relaxing experience at White Silo, complete with a live musician. We highly recommend White Silo to visitors traveling through this quiet part of the state. We hope to be back!

Mixed review here. I was staying in the area for a few nights and ordered takeout my first night…read more I ordered over the phone quickly as she told me they were almost ready to close. I took a quick glance online and ordered the crab cake appetizer and then asked if they had a green salad, she said she could give me a box to make one at the salad bar. Perfect, I just wanted something green and healthy after a day of traveling. I arrive. She gives me the box and I proceed to put in lettuce, cucumbers a bit of come slaw and dressing. I go to pay and give her my card. As I'm getting in my car I look at the receipt and it's $38!!! $14 for the crab cake and $18.95 for the green salad. Had it not been pouring down raining I would have gone back in and asked for a refund and left my green salad behind. I'm both surprised and disappointed the waitress/bartender who took the phone order wouldn't have said our green salads salads are $19. There wasn't even anything on the salad bar that would remotely warrant such a high price for salad. The crab cake which was very moderately priced at $14 was delicious. I'm not sure if their salad bar usually includes a lot of other things like soup, bread or more? If that's the case she could have easily said we're closing so I'm charging 1/2 off since you're just getting a plain salad. Needless to say it felt like being taken advantage of being charged so much for a plain salad. And have if be more than a great crab cake that was full of expensive crab meat was beyond odd.
