My second review because another wonderful dinner. We sat by a warm, cozy fireplace. There was live Irish acoustic music in another room that we could hear faintly. The fried calamari was perfect, the salads and bread delicious. The service was spot on. We had stuffed cod, NY strip steak with Gorgonzola and a daily special of a corned beef Reuben. Have been a happy customer for over 15 years and have always been happy, but tried brunch for the first time yesterday and was underwhelmed. If you are looking for steak with your steak and eggs don't order that. Portion literally 4 bites. Bloody Mary had just olives. Could you spare a celery stick? And cappuccino was flat, cold and light on espresso. Service was, as always, excellent and will definitely rush back for dinner by the fire, but was sad to say that brunch was a bit of a let down. ‍ and can we please, please bring back the salad bar? I really have no pleasantries to add even about the food because I had a waitress who was very rude, condescending and continued to insult me /make jokes at my expense throughout the duration of our stay. It was classless and uncalled for. Older lady with short hair and black rimmed glasses. I rarely write negative reviews, I can always find the good in any place I visit. I'm even being generous with 2 stars for the sole reason of I'm sure there are hard working staff/cooks that are actually kind at this establishment and my stuffed shrimp was good. Wow, how GENEROUS are the portions here! I read some reviews before hand so I knew the portions were going to be large, and thus did not order any appetizers. The main dish comes with a side of salad, some sort of cooked veggies, as well as potatoes. I was stuffed and took 1/3 of my plate home still. My stuffed cod was very tender, and it was stuffed with crab meat. The salad was fresh, and you may choose the dressing. My boyfriend ordered a wurst platter to go with his IPA, and he devoured his food as well. My raspberry Bellini was very nice, but a bit too sweet for my taste. I gave it a four star because the fries were a bit soggy. I like perfectly crisp fries, and they weren't golden brown or crisp. If I return to the restaurant, I might order mashed potato or something else instead. Overall, such a pleasant dining experience with satisfying comfort food! read more

All good here. Off the beaten path; locals come here. Friendly service, good food, good value - what more could you ask for. You can get French Onion Soup in a cup here. Love that you can order a smaller portion. Why has no one else done this before? Dinner comes with: salad, choice of potato, and a vegetable. Oh, dinner rolls too - smallish, but I liked them that way. Hubby had the roast Turkey special (thanksgiving on a plate - he liked it very much. Only thing to skip next time is the snarky round waitress. Her slow service and sarcasm wasn't funny or appreciated during our family celebration by me, but apparently she thought she was hilarious! What a great find! Low-key, and the place was packed. Big portioned entrees which include a trip to the salad bar, great device and good beers on tap. We had the prime rib au jus and the crispy duck, followed by a warm bead pudding topped with a syrupy sauce and whipped cream. Went here after a trip to the Kent Falls and couldn't be happier that I stopped here. It appears to be a favor with the locals. Lots of people leaving with leftovers. I rarely wander away from town and my local restaurants. However, it was Bestie's birthday, and we wanted to go someplace different. I had visited the Bull's Bridge Inn for a business meeting, and I was impressed with the food and service in a banquet situation. It was wondering if this was also true of their a la carte service as well. So, we decided that this was a good enough occasion to give it a try. There's not enough room here to post the entire history of this inn. Let's just say that the building is fairly old (1762), and has been operating as a tavern for many years. They once took in lodgers, but not anymore, which is sad because it's right across the street from the covered Bull's Bridge, and a segment of the Appalachian trail. This would have been a fantastic place to start and end a hike. So, we arrived soon after opening. There was already a private party in full swing in one of the other rooms. Bestie and I decided on cocktails at the bar before sitting down to eat, so we grabbed seats and were immediately greeted by the bartender, Melissa. While she mixed cocktails (she got my martini perfect in one try!), we looked around. Dark wood paneling and plank flooring gave a very colonial and elegant touch to the decor, and, as luck would have it, I picked the massage seat--it was directly over the compressor for the beer taps, and the slight vibrations from time to time prevented me from ending up as a Dead End Kid. As it was still early, Melissa asked if we were planning to eat, and offered to reserve a table for us, as it might get busy later on. We decided to take our chances and had a couple of more cocktails. As luck would have it, we managed to get a table right away as we staggered towards the dining room. Mary, our server, was right over to take our wine order. While she ran off to fill it, we perused the menus. These were printed on a sheet of paper, folded into a little book. It was a homey touch, and was a lot easier to read (and handle) than some other menus. The specials were also on a small slip of paper. While not extensive, the menu was well balanced, with a lot of seafood and steaks (their specialties) and a few chicken and pasta dishes. I selected Baked Stuffed Shrimp, while Bestie picked Blackened Swordfish. Mary instructed us to help ourselves to the salad bar while she put in her order. While I'm not a great fan of salad bars, this one was well-stocked with a good variety. There was also a selection of fresh-baked breads, of which, even though I shouldn't eat it, had to try. Slices of a nice pumpernickel and a whole-grain bread ended up on my plate. All the salad bar offerings were in small containers, refreshed often, and well-chilled, and a selection of six house-made dressings were offered. I was careful not to overfill my plate with salad as I wanted room for my dinner--everything looked very good. By the time we finished salads, our entrees were ready. With all the options for a starch (baked potato, baked sweet potato, mashed and fries), we both picked rice, that night, seasoned with saffron. A selection of vegetables rounded out the plate. There were five shrimp on my plate, all packed with a seafood stuffing, swimming in a pool of garlic butter. Bestie's swordfish was a reasonably-sized portion, done to perfection outside, but still moist inside. We devoured our food quickly; it was very good. Even though it was her birthday (and I brought candles; only one because we didn't want to set off the sprinklers), she surprised me and declined one of their house-made desserts. I must mention that one of the options was a gluten-free chocolate lava cake--maybe next time. All in all, this was a fantastic choice for dinner. Service was fast in both the bar and dining room, all the staff was friendly, and the quality of the food was excellent. While it's off the beaten path a bit, it's a destination where the experience is worth the drive. read more

What a meal! I almost passed on going to this restaurant after reading certain reviews. I'm sure happy that we went. We each started with the French onion soup and then visited the fresh salad bar. My hubby ordered the duck and I splurged on the crab stuffed lobster. The food was very fresh, well prepared and delicious. The atmosphere was cozy, right down to the historic decor, booth seating and crackling fire. This is a casual dining experience at a fair price. The most expensive item was the stuffed 1.5 lb lobster at $29.95 and included salad bar, potato and fresh vegetables. This price is about $10. less than what I've paid elsewhere. read more

This restaurant has been here forever, and it is charming. I have come here from time to time for many years. The servers are friendly and helpful. Prices are very reasonable, especially for CT. As to the food, everything I've ever gotten here has been excellent. The steak is always a winner, similarly the fish of the day. Prepare to be STUFFED. Your dinner will come with a trip to the salad bar, which has a great selection of stuff. And bread. And huge portions on the entrees. If you add an appetizer or dessert, you might explode. (Or do like the locals and bring half of your dinner home for the next day.) Bulls Bridge Inn is not glamorous or trendy or chic. If you're a stuffy New Yorker and you want to dine at an exclusive, posh restaurant, you will not like it here. But if you're looking for a great meal in a charming, historic old Connecticut Inn, then you'll love it. read more

What a total faux pas tonight on the part of the ol' grumpy waitress...AND for others to follow along with this BS, is most pathetic. DAMN, change your staff already if they can't get their act together. I'm not the only one who has posted pertaining to their rude behavior. The last 2 times I ate here, I sat at the bar 'cause the wait staff were unnecessarily rude at the table. I am NOT rude to them...but provoke me & I will be rude. This problem all started 'cause I take my leftover salad home. I've been doing this for many years without any issues until April 2018. Then the grumpy ol' waitress got her panties in a twist. Tonight, as usual, I wanted to take my leftover salad home. Jill told me I cannot do this. I respect Jill & believe her to be most gracious about this BS. After all, she does have to work with these pendejas. SO, I ate my salad & took more of my dinner home. While eating my salad, a younger waitress hawked me via the bar window...guess, she was assigned to be on watch to make sure I didn't put any salad on my dinner plate. GUESS WHAT...I put 2 pieces of salad broccoli on my dinner plate...SMH...LOL. I, also, had a call out to the ol' grumpy waitress. I loudly told Jill, "this all started with the old waitress." I was being nice...I could have said worse. Jill said something like, "ok, it's getting spicy." I told Jill, it started getting "spicy" as soon as I came in. They were saying, "yeah, that's her.'' Come to Kent, CT to get great German food they say. Well it's true, just stop by the Bulls Bridge Inn and order up the plate that's not listed on the menu. It has Frankfurter, Bratwurst, knockwurst with sauerkraut - awesome. The service was good too. One side of the building is parking for the Inn guests and the other side is parking for partons. On the weekend this place doesn't open up until noon. This will give you time to walk around down in the town area which is a few miles away. We plan on returning for dinner next time. I had the lobster Mac n' Cheese and was not disappointed; my husband had the mixed grill it was ok, the kielbasa was reheated and not very good but everything was very good. My husband and I had our wedding dinner here at the Bull's Bridge Inn at the recommendation of both my mother and sister, who had been there before (we had not; we're from Philadelphia and don't usually go "out" to eat when visiting my parents in CT). The ambiance was just wonderful--so much character! Our party of 10 were seated in a private room, and had Melissa as our server. She was wonderful! So attentive and sweet. The hors d'oeuvres were delicious (spring rolls, mini spanakopita, and potato skins), and the New York Strip and Chicken Piccata were just perfect. Romantic, old fashioned, enjoyable atmosphere. Food tasted great and served by a nice staff (very polite young man and an experienced waitress.) I had a really delicious onion soup and a huge tasty burger with the works. We sat near a fireplace on a sunny winter afternoon - delightful. (What would make it 5 stars? - cleaner glasses and utensils, a few more smiles and one last visit from our waitress towards the end of the meal as well as a little decrease on the prices.)
