Went here with my wife on a Saturday afternoon. Started off with the fried calamari, tubes were cooked perfectly but the tentacles were overcooked. Had to ask for bread for our mains. Wife had the veal cutlet parm over pasta which she loved, she said sauce was very good. I had the Zuppa de Pesce which was on the specials menu. It was over linguini in a broth of some sort. Would have been better in a marinara or similar. Service was excellent as was the atmosphere. Was not rushed. Portions are not huge but I feel it was all priced accordingly. We did not leave hungry. We Stopped by for dinner with a group of four on a Saturday night after hearing good reviews. When entering the restaurant and we we're greeted right away to a filled restaurant and we're Presented bread with pre drizzled with oil on the table. Overall the food was average, we got the prosciutto pizza and Brussels sprout appetizers which were small portioned. The brussel sprouts could use more crisping as well. For the mains I got the Chicken Parm which was nothing special but my wife got the Pappardelle in lamb bolognese which was outstanding. Great flavor and good portioned pasta dish. We went to this Italian restaurant after wanting to try it for a while. We called the day of and made reservations, the place was completely full when we arrived for our 7:30 reservation. The owner was extremely kind and came over a few times and checked in on us. She said she works in the front of the house and her husband is in the back. For apps we ordered a special of brussel sprouts and sausage (a combo I've never had before and really enjoyed) and a pizza which I really liked. This is what I've been looking for... upscale, quiet, dimly lit romantic, amazing cuisine, great waitstaff, ALL around perfect! Would have liked there to be a dress code but as I'm seeing in New Milford, the old folks (men) like to go out in baseball caps and barely look a step above slobs. Too bad! We both ordered one the nightly specials which was phenomenal: homemade pappardelle pasta! We found the drinks and menu to be very reasonably and fairly priced and as I said, a great waitstaff! The owner offered us Limoncello's after our meal which we declined since we don't drink those (maybe we would have been charged, who knows?), but our drinks were excellent as was everything we ordered! We truly enjoyed our dinner at La Piccolina last night. The food was delicious, perfectly seasoned and the portions were just right. The beet salad I ordered was delicious; I plan to order it again next time. My husband had the Cesar salad and he liked it too. The main courses were very satisfying and the desserts were very tasty. Our waiter was wonderful, making the place seem promising at first. We had butternut squash ravioli to start and the raviolis were a little doughy, and the sauce was pasty and thick. It was just not enjoyable. I had chicken saltimbocca and the prosciutto wasn't cooked at all. I think they put it on top after they cooked the chicken. There wasn't much flavor to the dish, it didn't even have the zest of the reduced wine that makes this dish usually shine. My wife ordered the chicken marsala and the chicken was not pounded/thinly sliced. It was thick and dry. Then for dessert, we ordered the special pumpkin pie. The crust wasn't cooked enough and it seemed like it had been a store-bought pie thawed out from a freezer. I really wish this meal were a lot better. I almost never post bad reviews but, oh man, this was bad. Also, we usually go to Italian places to get a good meal, because it's hard to find bad Italian food. My favorite lunch spot in New Milford. Located on the village green, with outdoor sidewalk tables, under the market umbrellas. Very pleasant ambiance equaling the pleasant server we had. I've eaten here about four times. It's a good meetup spot to join a friend and have a couple glasses of Pinot Grigio, which we did. Along with the lunch special eggplant Parmesan and garden salad, it makes for a very nice experience. The eggplant Parmesan, by the way, is the best I've had in years. No more outdoor dining this season, sadly! But we had our first indoor dining experience since the start of the pandemic here (fingers crossed). Service (from a co-owner we just realized, so no chance of poaching ;) was lovely, understanding (of our kids and indecision), and warm, while the food was delicious as always. The homemade pastas (lamb bolognaise, tagliatelle primavera) were well enjoyed by those in our party, though I noticed some inconsistencies in pasta thickness / cut that could make for trouble, especially when cooking to an al dente texture. My shaved fennel salad came with a generous amount of well seasoned fennel, less pistachio than I'd use at home, a too-sweet-for me, but inoffensive, dressing. (I order this salad a lot here. It's consistently good.) Some wines by the glass were older than a few days open, but none were too egregiously old. There is so much talent in this kitchen and in the front of the house, a focus on excellent ingredients prepared with skill. This will continue to be a New Milford go-to, we suspect for many years yet. read more

From the exterior this seems like a small town restaurant, once inside it has more of a feel of a restaurant in Italy. The owner/manager Sandra is very welcoming and accomodating, her husband Carlo is the chef and is clearly very experienced and talented. The staff is very polite, not pushy and ready to help at every juncture. The food is absolutely incredible. It catches you off guard because you might be expecting routine small town fare, and a beautifully presented and delicious meal arrives and just blows you away. Make sure you leave room for dessert, the peaches and crepes are out of this world, and the chocolate mousse is also among the best you've had. Came here for lunch on the weekend. The area is very cute and quiet. I got the Spaghetti Tutto Mare dish & hubby got the grilled calamari and shrimp with spinach. We also got the burrata appetizer and a bottle of Pinot Grigio. It was very tasty and filling, but that didn't stop us from also getting a dessert! I've lived in New Milford for 16 years grew up in Westchester. I'm a Nurse at NY Presbyterian Hospital so I divide my time between bustling Manhattan and quiet New Milford This restaurant reminds me of being in Manhattan in the East Village or LES. This is a true mom and pop establishment with a Northern Italian influence. The food is really delicious, my husband is a first generation Italian from NY and loves this restaurant. There are several Italian restaurants in the immediate area, coming here is a unique experience. You really feel like a member of the family being taken care of. The food is eclectic and constantly evolving. My husband and I come once a week on average and never have the same dish twice. You can sit outside on a patio and enjoy the New Milford Green people watching. The dessert menu really brings a wonderful conclusion to a spectacular performance. Tonight for instance I had the gelato which was a sample of espresso, strawberry (with fresh strawberries!) and wonderfully creamy vanilla gelato. Went here for a nice Friday night dinner. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful evening. Started the night of with some drinks, I ordered the Mojito, which was really great. For appetizer I got the Caprese Insalata, which was very good. The mozzarella was great and had a lot of flavor. Other items that were ordered were the Fennel and Orange salad and the Green salad. Everyone enjoyed their appetizer and drinks. For the main course I had the Tagliatelle e Gamberi with the Scampi sauce. The shrimp were really great and cooked well. However i was a Little disappointed by the sauce, it overall just didn't have that much flavor. We also ordered a pizza which was okay, we weren't that impressed by the crust. For dessert I ordered the Profiteroles, which were okay. The ice cream and and chocolate sauce was yummy, just was dissatisfied with the puff pastry portion. It lacked flavor and didn't seem to be that fresh. Overall if you're looking for a pleasant ambience with great service and some Italian food this is the place. We were expecting a great experience but ended up disappointed. The broiled calamari was very good as noted by others. We both ordered chicken dishes, I went with the basic Parmigiana. My wife took a bite of hers and said the chicken tasted funny and had an odd texture. My chicken was chewy. I tried different sides and on one side it was uneatable, very tough, so I left it with the remaining chicken on my plate. I thought that it must have been frozen for some time. When I explained this to the owner she explained that everything is fresh and breaded there. She offered a refund and mentioned that they have been in business for 10 years and shared that they are the best Italian Restraunt in New Milford. It came across a bit defensive, which was not helpful. The owner and server seemed to overlap as they both thought the other delivered bread and stopped by to check the dishes after delivery. Which neither did. Owner offered to take the dish off the bill but I said not needed, so it was left on. read more

In a town full of Italian restaurants, La Piccolina is by far the best of the best. Nobody else comes close to the quality, flavor and authenticity. Everything is fresh and home made from scratch in the kitchen. The menu goes well above and beyond the normal stuff everyone else has... sure, there's a chicken parm, but you'd be remiss to not try one of the other dozens of unique entrees offered up. As for the pasta, typically spaghetti is nothing to write home about, but it's seriously to die for here, as is every single pasta dish. Personally I go for the seafood, for lunch or dinner, the way they cook the salmon is unreal. And the desserts... seriously unmatched anywhere else. If you're looking to go out or take out, definitely give La Piccolina a try! You won't regret it. read more

Do yourself a favor don't waste your time . Went there with a party of 4 took forever to get the food. Bread was stale -pouring g oil on it did it no justice. The margarita pizza was a pita with sauce and cheese ( I felt like I was in the 4th grade and my mom made me a snack after school. Lobster ravioli gross There red sauce on the gnocchi tasted like bbq sauce. All four of us walked out of there leaving our plates with food on them not wanting to take the leftovers home and definitely passing on the dessert menu. Everything started out really great here. The drinks and apps came quickly and were great. The entrees we ordered took forever to come out so we asked the owner when they were coming out. She became extremely defensive saying there was "500" takeout orders in front of us instead of just apologizing and trying to make it right. I ordered the home made penne with lamb bolognese and my wife ordered the salmon sandwich lunch special. The penne was al dente which but the sauce was just a tad bit salty for my taste. La piccolina popped up on my Yelp and everything sounded really good so after a long at of hiking it seemed like the perfect choice. We where seated quickly and handed menus right away and the drinks came quickly but that was it for the quick service lol. They may have been down a cook or 2 since the food took a hour to come out and I heard a lady tell the staff don't seat anyone else. They had a nice selection of lunch specials in the menu and also a separate daily lunch special on the table. I ordered the penne with prosciutto and peas in a cream sauce. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the prosciutto was like crispy candy. Others ordered the the eggplant Parm hero and brick oven pizza. The hero had very little eggplant but the fries that came with it where excellent. The pizza was kinda small but good and the sauce was really good. If the portions where slightly bigger I would if gave them 5 stars. I can't give them anything for the slow service since it may have been a off day. read more

Having recently been in Florence any Italian restaurant is for a tough match. La Piccolina did themselves proud. We will be returning. The atmosphere was good, though sparsely filled early in the evening. Staff were polite and attentive. The two wines ordered, a Cabernet and a Rose were both excellent and good value. Appetizers- Tuna Tarter Bruschetta and Chicken Crepe were both outstanding. Highly recommend trying both. Main course- Salmon Risotto was excellent. The Tagliatelle was good though not quite up to the fare served in Italy. That said it was about the best had here in recent memory. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

Had the pleasure of dining here with two others on Wed evening. We were in the area to enjoy a spa retreat in nearby Washington and wanted to venture out to a local dining spot. What a delight! As has been noted in other reviews below, this is a cozy restaurant, family owned and run in both the front of the house as well as the kitchen. The homemade pastas! Delicious. Cooked to perfection. I had the lamb bolognese. Fabulous. Hearty portions but so good you end up eating every morsel. Service is friendly and professional. Attentive; we were there for a leisurely dinner and the staff was happy to let us set the pace. Overall a terrific experience. You will enjoy everything. I am just sorry we do not live in the area. The worst Italian restaurant. If I could this place a 0 that's what this restaurant deserves. I ordered the spaghetti and meatball. the meatballs had no seasoning and it was like they got the meatballs from the frozen section at a grocery store. Terrible service. Probably the worst I have ever received. We sat down for lunch on Thursday at 12:30pm. There was probably only 8 tables of 2 and 4 in the whole restaurant. The waitress came out and took our order - we got a calamari appetizer, a soup and two salads. The calamari came out in about 10 min. The rest of the order was taking a while, we kept asking the waitress and she kept saying "it's coming it's coming" with an attitude and would walk away before we could ask for a water or anything else. We mentioned we had an appointment and before we could ask the status of our lunch order she would say "it's almost here" with an attitude. Eventually after being seated at the restaurant for an hour and 35 min I went up to the host stand and asked if we could have the order wrapped up to go when it was ready along with the check. She told me they were understaffed and the food was made ready to order. I told her that was fine but she wasn't honest with us about how long the order was going to take. From there the woman proceeded to yell at me and say I was insulting her and calling her a liar. She also mentioned that no one else in the restaurant was complaining. I said calmly I was not trying to offend anyone but I'm late for an appointment now and I need the food wrapped up. As I walked out she yelled at me behind my back that "this is not fast food and we are not a McDonalds". After she brought our food out she threw up her hands claimed she owned the restaurant and said she didn't want any money for the food and not to insult her again. I let her know I did not call her a liar and we were happy to pay. Again she cut me off, yelled at my mother and I and said "Don't insult me I'm appalled". At that point this woman had gone from being rude and dismissive from the start to downright irate. If you don't like being screamed at when you're trying to be reasonable and polite, this isn't the restaurant for you. Do not go here. read more

I've never had such bad experience in my life and I dine out often. Our wait person was new and that it totally forgivable we all have to start somewhere. It was the owner that ruined the night for us. She has no idea how to apologize when something isn't going well. She never actually once said she was sorry that there was a delay and she became confrontational when our attitudes reflected our dissatisfaction with the current circumstance. It was surreal to watch. It's a shame because the food, once it came our over an hour and a half later was superb. She just should find someone else to manage the floor. Myself and some other wine reps were invited here for dinner after an event in New Milford. 9:30pm and I hadn't had dinner, and I'm being offered fresh, homemade Italian food? No need to twist my arm! The staff were so kind to accommodate us at such a late hour, as they were already closed and we were the only party in the restaurant. Despite this the service was still fantastic. Highlights of the meal for me were the Calamari a la Griglia: fresh grilled squid in a lemon basil pesto sauce, no breading, and perfectly tender - and the Burrata: bufala mozzarella served w/ grilled zucchini, yellow squash, tomato & homemade flatbread. My lasagna was ok, but a bit small and smothered in cheese. Like, so much cheese I couldn't see the pasta! Wished there was a little more filling - almost felt like all I was eating was cheese. Dessert was great - I tried a few bites of the tiramisu and crepes, which were both delicious. My espresso was perfect. But no cannolis? IN AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT? I mean, I know the filling takes a lot of work, and they have to be made fresh every day, but c'mon... cannolis are an absolute staple at an Italian Restaurant.
