I took myself and two sons for haircuts with Vika and Kelsey. Vika cut my long wavy hair and my older son's dense, coarse hair. She gave me the perfect bangs with bits and bobs - I wanted to be able to put my hair into a ponytail and have the cute bangs and little face framing bits on the sides of my face. Really flattering - my hair suits my face perfectly and my curls are so much more alive. As for my son - I don't even know how Vika knew how to cut his hair because we literally showed her a drawing of a style we found online and gave some disjointed ideas and she gave him exactly what he wanted. When we left the studio he said "mom, I love my hair" (and if you know any 14 year old boys you know that's nothing short of miraculous). My younger son has a head of moppish Greek curls. Every time we get a haircut they cut his curls off!! I knew there had to be a better way and the person who booked him with Kelsey evidently also knew that bc my son's hair was shorter but no less curly. He looks so good and he TOO says he loves his hair. Kelsey is really talented and highly skilled - if you have delicate curls that are otherwise mishandled, she's def your girl. My stylist, Daniel, has an infectious bubbly personality that immediately gravitates you. My session was THE most fun and laugh-inducing service I've had in a while and I feel that more stylists should create a bond like this with their clients. This wasn't the only reason that initiated my decision to book with him. I had severe trust issues when it comes to stylists for their lack of understanding of Asian hair. It has been 5 years since my last session with someone else at a reputable luxury salon. I never got the results I was promised, came back home with breakage, and had streaks of brass blonde that wasn't toned -- these are money grabbing industry stylists. I'm not someone who usually writes bad reviews, but I wanted to share this experience because I think it highlights an area where salons can do a better job when they know an appointment has not gone well. I recently came in for what should have been a simple root touch-up and all-over color. I asked for a basic copper all-over color, and unfortunately left with a deep blue-red color that was nowhere close to what I requested. The color did not turn out correctly the first time, and after multiple attempts to fix it, it was still not right. After about four hours in the salon and three rounds of color, I decided I just wanted to leave because I was concerned about causing further damage to my hair. At that point, it was not that I was happy with the result -- it was just finally in a place where I could at least leave. I kept a smile on my face because I could tell the stylist knew it had gone wrong multiple times, and I did not want to make her feel worse. But there was no way I was actually happy with my hair. What was most frustrating was that I was still charged the full price for the service, despite leaving unhappy and without the result I requested. I also felt uncomfortable when the front desk asked if I was happy with how my hair turned out, especially given that the appointment had clearly not gone as planned. I completely understand that mistakes can happen, but I feel the salon should have taken more ownership of the situation. When an appointment clearly does not go well, the customer should not have to be the one to ask for the service to be discounted or covered. The salon should be aware of what happened and proactively make it right. I'm super particular about my hair - very straight hair that can be less forgiving than other types. Before I started seeing Tessa I could maybe find someone that did cuts better than color or color better than cuts, but never an expert of both. Then 10+ yrs ago I found Tessa through my sister (who is equally, if not more, picky than me) and she's been the best of both worlds ever since. I love the way my hair falls whether it's short or long and it never has the fresh hair cut look aka "chopped". And she always fine tunes the color so it's exactly what I'm looking for especially when I want to switch it up (which is usually a pretty subtle change). Another bonus is the hair routine I've adopted over time with both my shampoo/conditioner as well as heat protectant and I'm close to making the leap to rice water for my ends. The products she's recommended for my hair type has made a world of a difference in the quality and look of my hair. I made an appointment at Limon Salon and, when booking, specifically asked the receptionist who was best with layering. I was recommended Skylar. At my appointment, I showed Skylar a reference photo of a very basic haircut: curtain bangs, long layers, and light face framing. Toward the end of the appointment I was a bit rushed and didn't have time to fully examine my hair in the salon, though I immediately noticed excessive volume at the crown and that the front felt much shorter than expected. Once I got home and looked more closely, I was extremely disappointed. A large amount of hair had been cut off in the front, the layers are uneven, and the bangs are not curtain bangs at all. The crown looks very poofy while the ends are thin and over-texturized. Most of the layering, including the bangs and face framing, was done with a razor on dry hair, which resulted in a choppy and unbalanced look. The final result does not resemble the photo I showed or what I asked for. It looks uneven and poorly executed. This experience has been very upsetting for me, and I would not recommend Skylar for layered haircuts based on my experience. I did contact the salon and was rescheduled for a correction appointment with another stylist to fix this disaster, so I'm hoping they make it right. . I never leave reviews like this, but I'm genuinely devastated by the haircut I received. I went in with healthy, long hair and clear references, and walked out with a choppy, disconnected, uneven mess that looks nothing like what I asked for. Before the cut, the stylist spent over 30 minutes consulting with me. I showed her detailed pictures of what I wanted soft, long, slightly disconnected front layers with no harsh lines. I was explicit that I did not want anything choppy. She reassured me repeatedly that she understood. After the first cut, my hair actually looked decent. All I asked for was a slightly shorter version of what she had just done. That's when things went downhill fast. While telling me a story about how she once cut off too much of another client's hair because she was distracted talking she proceeded to do exactly that. Huge chunks started falling. There is no saving it except to grow it out or get extensions. I've attached multiple photos so others can see what I mean. This isn't just "not what I wanted" it's objectively a bad haircut with no internal logic, blending, or structure. When she was done, I was in a rush to leave bc it had been 2 hours and I needed to lay the meter and didn't fully grasp the damage yet. I noticed there was a huge pile of hair on the floor, and my head felt much lighter. But because I trusted her, I didn't question it. I didn't realize what had happened until I got in my car and started playing around with my hair. I cried the entire way home. I think it was part heartbreak, part utter disbelief that I'd just spent $140 plus tip on a haircut that was completely wrecked. I was honestly in denial. The location of Limon Salon is perfectly nestled on a busy street but don't worry there's parking on the street and a garage right there on the corner of Locust, it's about a minute walk to the salon from there. Now the salon is big, airy & bright! Not your vibe? You probably won't like the ambiance as much but I personally loved it! You are greeted by reception to check in for your appointment or see if there's space for a walk in. They offer you a free beverage or snack. The snack cart and beverage station are filled with items most people actually enjoy. If you have a kid with you, they'll enjoy the snacks too! There is a waiting area with a comfy couch and 2 chairs where you will wait for your stylist. The stylist booths are pleasantly placed and not toooo close to eachother. The wash station was comfortable too. Our stylist Daisy was incredible! She brought back my daughter's (2) hair to life!!! One has natural curls and the other has pin straight hair and she was able to perform magic There are sooo many talented stylists at this salon! Chris even helped during the process. I was told by The Lafayette Park Hotel that this was an upscale salon that welcomed walk-ins! DEFINITELY does not welcome walk-ins, not even sure why an upscale salon would need walk-ins but as I said great reviews so I went. This is the most pretentious salon I have ever entered. The cutesy little receptionist said I'm so sorry we couldn't take you until 1:30 so two hours, I said ok I'll shop and come back. She then said oh wait let me just check...left was back in 30 seconds said I'm sorry that appointment doesn't have enough time for your request, I said it's just a trim and blow out, she just kept saying I'm so sorry we can't accommodate you. I was dressed in designer clothes head to toe she treated me like a homeless person. Looking around while I was waiting I was not impressed and the hair dressers looked bored, like they would like to be anywhere else. This place needs to rewrite their website. Kelsey truly gave us the best experience and I cannot rave about her enough! She was extremely gentle, patient, and attentive with my daughter from start to finish.
