After two tries at an order and a little back and forth calling to lock things in, I'm going to round up since the guys at Lincoln Liquors have an eye to online security and are reasonable. I had a 3.5 star experience overall, but once we were on the same page the guys I worked with ultimately were understanding, trusting, and made sure they were able to provide me with the quality level I was looking for. I can see why people reference customer service. To be honest, I was a bit put off at first since I placed what I felt was a straight forward order with a clear explanation in the notes field. So I'd definitely recommend the staff pay better attention to that, and pick up the phone to call the person who placed the order before declining it. But they were just trying to protect someone from a potential fraud purchase. A quick phone call with me taking an understanding approach and simply saying, "Please? There are multiple names on the order because I'm ordering for a gift my boss is sending to a colleague and using her credit card. And it would really make my job easier if you guys can help me," made for a solid experience with a great end result. If I need to source gifting options in the area again, I'll go to Lincoln Liquors first. If you're placing an online order where the name for pick up is different than your name, you should be golden if you call them before you send the order through. From what I've experienced, as long as the guys at Lincoln Liquors know and can meet your needs, they'll make sure to do right by you. read more

I go here all the time for recycling. I'll buy my 1 beer from the vouchers. Speaking of vouchers... My review is 4 stars for the store. I give 1 star for the older staff member. This is what happened on 2 occasions: An older man with white hair who's left handed...please use a calculator when counting vouchers. Don't be ashamed of using it. Better to use it than rip someone off...like me...2x's. I had 3 vouchers today: $2.80 + $0.40 + $0.15 that should equal out to $3.35. My six pack of Dos Equis was $10.99. How in the blue fuck do I owe $14.64? 2x's is too many for me. I will avoid this older man like the plaque when I reach the cash register. I've been ripped off enough by him. This place has a good selection, but they make me feel like a criminal even though I'm 31! When I first moved to the area, I went here all the time, and just thought the liquor store was a nasty experience by default, then after they refused my (valid) MA driver's license, I swore off them. Thought I'd give them another shot today and they blew it with their attitude. What teenager is going to sneak in and buy fancy German hefeweizen singles for 4.50 a pop anyway? The kicker? The cashier's greeting to me: "You 21, Ma'am?" No hello, no have a nice day, just "Why didn't you have your id out for me?" I'll continue to skip this place and keep going to my normal place, where I also get carded, but never in an accusing, bitchy manner. Selection? Yes, it's not bad. Prices? Eh, about average. What ticked me off about this place is how they treat anybody who looks even remotely young. I'm 25, so I still get carded once in a while - which is fine, as long as the service staff asks for my ID politely. Harrington, though, took this process to another level. They not only closely examined my driving license (it's a Mass ID, for crying it out loud), but then proceeded to ask me to put it down in a designated spot - look for a hand symbol pinted on the counter - then turn to face the camera. HUGE SELECTION - which is great. BAD SIGNAGE - which makes it bad. Am I in the Italian red section? hard to say, I'm walking round and round, but there's white here with the red, and do we sort by brand or by varietal/blend? They do by varietal, which is fine, but a sub-sort by brand would also be helpful. We were searching for a Ruffino Classic Chianti ("oooh, that's an expensive bottle of Chianti" as one of the girls at checkout said). We couldn't find it with the other Ruffino. So we decided to ask for help. The manager walks by a cross aisle. We ask him, he leads us over to where it is located and points (it's a few feet down from where we were). BUT he doesn't say anything, not even "here you go" or "thanks for shopping Harrington's". I know it's a few days before Christmas, but come on, help us out. (and my father in law is a regular customer here, although he wasn't with us). Aside from the personality quirks of the staff and the lack of clear signage, the selection is amazing, prices are very reasonable and the store is well lit. I really like this place. The selection here is amazing and the prices are great! Very clean, well organized, and the staff has always been friendly to me. I went in last night after doing laundry down the street, figure I try a brew I haven't tasted yet. So I go in with my bro-in-law and we make our way to the farthest aisle from the entrance. This is where all the micro brews and imports are. I'm standing there looking through (what seems to be an infinite) selection and the a gentleman working at the store walks over. He asks me if I was in here a couple weeks ago and I say yes. He remembers me and told me I forgot a single beer when buying my six packs. So that's where that beer went?! He then tells me to go grab another single of my choice since I already paid for it. This simple gesture just secured them a loyal customer. As much as others have complained about their carding policy...well I just turned 21 this January and they have yet to card me. read more

The worst customer service I have experienced in a long time. This is not the good old Harrington liquors that I used to frequent. I will not be back. The cashier was rude, non-apologetic because I didn't see the sign that says no more than 100 returns per person per day. No one else was in the store. No one was inconvenienced. Yet they took my cans and bottles and they're going to get the money from the state yet they didn't give it to me. And they were rude about it. Unacceptable behavior. I am SO happy I wasn't the only one who has experienced the crazy/humiliating ID treatment here. I've been coming in here for years with my mom (who is in her 50s). Love the store, great selection, they have ALWAYS been friendly on the occasions I've accompanied my mother. Tonight.. went in for the first time with a friend (we are both in our 20s). Holy crap. Apparently if you don't have wrinkles and gray hair you are treated like a criminal. I wasn't even buying any liquor, I had only come in with my friend who was. Instead of being greeted with any sort of normal human greeting the woman barked, "are you girls 21?" like I'm some sort of underage idiot who would try to purchase alcohol. She carded me, understandably, but then rudely told me they would not accept my STATE ISSUED ID (I don't drive a car, I never got my license- I made sure to get a state ID to buy liquor once I turned 21. I stood in line at the RMV and paid the same amount of money for my ID). Nope. Apparently you need to operate a motor vehicle to accompany a person purchasing liquor at Harrington's. Both women I dealt with were extremely rude and patronizing. They told me to bring my passport next time. Hmm.. don't think there will be a next time. You lost 3 local customers tonight. Great selection, but I'm 24 and I've, like the poster below, always felt like a criminal going here. Getting my license scanned, getting photographed, etc. Tonight was the last straw. I was on my way back from the nearby Friendly's (best in the Lowell area!) and stopped in for some beer. My 50 year old mother and my 20 year old girlfriend were in the car. The car was running because it was cold out. I get up to the register, and the cashier asks if my passengers are 21. Not wanting to lie, I say no, and they refuse to sell to me, and go as far as pointing me to nearby liquor stores and telling me just be more discreet next time. There will be no next time - I broke no laws, neither were they about to. They need to stop treating their younger customers like criminals. OK - I did go back when my girlfriend turned 21 so she could try The Process. We live in Lowell so we only have space for one car so she never got her license. Store policy - no MASSACHUSETTS Liquor IDs and no out of state DRIVERS LICENSES. So, she hands the girl her old under-21 Massachusetts ID card, which, unlike her MA Liquor ID, is not legally equivilent to a Massachusetts Driver's Licence, and the cashier takes it anyway. *shrug* Then, we looked at the bird perched on the security camera, got our pictures taken, received a complimentary copy of Over 50 magazine, and were on our way. I don't know, maybe it was that I was buying Cognac this time instead of Sam Adams. If you want to to attract people who read Over 50, don't treat them like this when they're in their 20s. read more

I hate this place and will never go back. I took some empty cases of bottles for my daughter one day I was quickly chastised about the limit, I think I was two cases over so I took two cases back to my car. I then just stood there waiting and waiting at the return counter while the lady at the counter could clearly see me but just kept talking to a friend and totally ignoring me. I finally had to walk over there and say "hey can I return these". And then as she's going through them she then makes a comment along the lines of how I didn't buy them there. She's right, I just happen to be in the area but guess what, I'm never going to buy anything there now after the way I was treated. On top of the lousy customer service that day and the fact that the jerk that owns the place actually fought against a small cheese store down the road from getting a beer and wine license, I will never give that guy any business what so ever. And I used to be a pretty good customer there at one time. Not to mention in this day and age, you really have to be careful about ID theft and this place copies everyone's license and keeps it on file. It's the only liquor store I've ever been to that does that so I would be careful. read more

My 32 year old brother was in town and since I (26 years old) bought dinner, he said he would buy the beer. When we got to the counter, the woman at the register carded him. She explained that they couldn't accept an out of state license. My brother motioned to me and I pulled out my valid MA license. The woman then said that I couldn't buy the beer because I was with someone from out of state. I'm glad they didn't sell to us because we didn't have any wampum on us. read more

People that work at Harrington's are some of the rudist. Never mind the ID carding issues when I'm over 40, but they make up their own rules on the bottle bill. We knew they only accepted 5 cases (120 returns) per person, but when I showed up with two of my friends to return 15 cases they made up a new rule stating that we couldn't arrive in the same vehicle. The jerk behind the counter wasn't the only issue. We also got flak from one of the cashiers regarding the amount of returns we cashed in. It wasn't a mistake, but instead the fact we had about a dozen jugs that had 1.50 redemtion on them. So we took the money and left without buying anything. We are going to video tape it next time and hopefully we can show the others on youtube what to expect. If they refuse to take them next time we'll look to get them cited. Save 20-30 percent and go to Nashua. Market basket has even started selling high quality beers like Rogue and Stones. The state liquor store is right next door. Not only do you get a smile, but you'll save 20-30%!!! read more

This is one of the cheapest places with the best selections around and the staff are very helpful especially when I was picking wine out for a friend as a gift. I took away 1 star because you have to sit through way to much traffic to get there after work as it is right near the center of town but any other time is good. I took away 2 stars because for a while a couple years back a few bad apples stole merchandise from this store in order to combat this the store elected to take a picture of every younger customer. As they checked out they would ask you to look at the camera and they would take your picture. This is on top of the other security cameras which I found unnecessary and intrusive and it certainly turned a few people off from buying here including myself read more

WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED!!!! Yesterday was my first visit at the Lincoln Liquors in Chelmsford. I have worked right across the street from this store for a year in a half now, my boss and all my co workers go to this store whenever we need anything for our clients. I figure I would stop here after work since it is close however, as soon as i walked in there i felt the eyes on me. Not one employee there cared to greet me which is beside the point but how can THREE different staff member stare right to my face and not one said hello or offer any help as I searched isle to isle. As i walked to the counter to ask for a bottle on the shelf one guy ignored me, he walked away to help another customer, he then asked his co worker to assist me. The look of disgust in this person's face as he walked towards me was indescribable. I have worked in the service industry for 10 years now and we can all agree customer service is priority in any business. As I finished my purchase i was in shock when he couldn't even offer me a bag, leaving me to carry my $85 dollar bottle in my hand. Leaving this store left me in such a bad space and disappointing feeling that I had to leave a review. I've never before felt the need to leave any bad reviews anywhere because I thought one person's bad attitude should not be a cause for a whole store to be criticized but the fact that it was not just one but all the employees in this store treated me the same it is quite concerning. read more

So, despite the initial negative experience with the ID policy I had at this store, after last night I am forced to add another star to my rating. Harrington's sponsored a wine/Scotch/beer tasting last night at the Radisson in Chelmsford and it was phenomenal! Tickets were only $35 in advance or $40 at the door, which seemed very reasonable to me for such an event. There were I believe 26 wine tasting stations, one for scotch, and one for beer and by golly, I think we hit them all. My wine knowledge is, shall we say, in its infancy, so it was nice to listen to the experts tell me about what I was sampling. Of course, I know you're supposed to taste and spit at wine tastings, but I skipped the spitting part, so by the end of the night there was a pleasant buzz going on. Thankfully, my friend took notes for us on things we liked so we'll be able to go to Harrington's and pick them up. The hors d'ouvres were delicious as well, but that's more of a review for the Radisson's kitchen than Harrington's so I'll refrain from commenting on them. Ok, one comment. People love bacon-wrapped scallops, so keep them coming! They ran out in 10 minutes and I didn't get to them in time! Altogether, a wonderful event and a great way to spend a Thursday night. I'm told this event happens yearly and I will certainly attend again. read more

As others have said, you can't beat the selection here, and it's nicely lit so you don't feel like you're buying beer in someone's basement. I have shopped prices at other nearby stores and Harrington's has the best prices on what I buy. I used to have to do the palm scan thing, which I thought was annoying but I can't blame the owner for wanting to protect his business. If you get caught selling to someone underage, there goes the business. Plus, after going to stores out in the Amherst area, this place was no big deal. People have talked about the staff, but I can't think of many liquor stores locally where the staff is all that personable. Anyway, bottom line - great selection, clean store, good prices. This place has a huge selection, and is probably the largest liquor store in the area (at least, of the ones I've seen). They have an entire aisle dedicated to craft beers, the depths of which I have yet to dive into very deeply, sadly. I've been in there a number of times in the past couple months, and haven't had a single issue with being ID'd. License check only, no palm scan or rectal exam. Maybe they got too many complaints, who knows. There is a sign on the door that states MA Licenses only, which seems to be pretty common around these parts. Definitely will be back some more, the next time I need to restock. read more

Harrington's is the cleanest, best lit, friendliest liquor store I have ever visited. I think the wine selection is amazing and they have an unbelievable assortment of imported and domestic beers. The staff is very helpful if you simply ask for help. They are very knowledgable and extremely willing to give you suggestions on types of liquor that you may not be familiar with. I would recommend anyone who knows liquors to try Harrington's in Chelmsford. The best kept secret around for a clean, friendly, very reasonably priced store for any liquor need! read more

This place has a great variety of beers and I loved most of it. This place isn't far away from where I live so it was my first choice when i moved to Chelmsford. Wish they'd had some of the more popular beers like Boddington's, Franziskaner as well but it only gave me an opportunity to try out more new beers. I read the reviews on Yelp before I went there and I'd read some of them complained that they ask for IDs. I wasn't offended by it as some here seem to be. Its their job to do it. Overall, a pretty good place. read more
