Came here for lunch on Wednesday and it was fabulous. The chef put out a new menu and i love it. Great portion sizes and affordable. Highly recommend this place for lunch! I ordered the soup do the day which was a Thai coconut soup and also the muffuletta sandwich which was delicious. I ordered my side to be a salad instead of the chips. I also had their Missoula tea which was lovely. Overall, great vibe, beautiful view, delicious food. The only feedback is to maybe make the music a litter louder since it was kind of quiet but others may actually like that!! This was my best experience at Linear by far. Service was better. The food was awesome. We got two appetizers (ravioli and octopus) and both were awesome! My wife got the steak and I got the special (cod) and both were perfect- what an awesome meal! Nice atmosphere. Decor was unique with the multitude of plants. Music was a bit loud, taking away from the overall dining experience. Food was very good. One of the best duck breast I've ever had. Traditional execution. Squid ink pasta was very delicious as well. Appetizers were also very good. The grilled octopus was delicious. I'd recommend portioning the octopus given its an appetizer. The beets 3 ways was also very good and unique. Dessert was ok. The chocolate dome was unique but a little hard to eat. It tastes very good. The scone was not good. Too sweet, too soupy with the strawberry sauce and chèvre. Service was great. Pretty amazing to see the sunset. I liked the view of the river and the modern, bright atmosphere and vibe. I even found the restrooms very inviting, and with both of them unisex, I didn't have to ponder which one to use after a few drinks, which can otherwise cause problems. I had the wagyu steak wrap, which was five stars as was the Thai soup. The bread pudding dessert was also superb, as was the knowledgeable server. The only reason I didn't rate it five stars overall is because the menu is tiny. To be based in Grand Rapids, Beer City USA and only have four beers on tap? That's like going to a seafood restaurant in Boston and being told they have no clam chowder, salmon, halibut or crab. I realize they have a nice selection of mixed drinks, but some of us also like great beers. I also thought the bourbon, whiskey and Scotch selections could be beefed up. How about some Lagavulin 16 year Scotch? If you don't know what that is, you should try it. It will change your life. What they had was superb, but the menu could almost be fit on a 3 x 5 card. read more

We've been meaning to check out Linear for a while! Interior is really light and airy modern/simplistic with views of the river. We stopped in for a Friday night happy hour/dinner. Happy hour deals include half off wines, signature cocktails and beers. Started with the pan fried battered forest Nameko mushrooms with herb aioli, main course for us was the featured short rib dish and wagyu flank steak. Amazing presentation and flavors did not disappoint. Do your self a favor and order the cherry bread pudding for dessert - to die for. We will be back for sure! read more

In all of my research of places to eat in GR, this one somehow snuck under the radar (probably because it is new). Had it not been for everything else being closed on the 4th of July, we would not have found this gem and that would have been a shame. The restaurant is right on the river (with outside seating) and a spacious interior. While the menu is very small, we had a hard time choosing what to order since everything sounded wonderful. We started with cocktails #3 (smoked apple infused bourbon, Grand Marnier, burnt honey, bitters) and #4 (pineapple infused tequila, maraschino cherry liqueur, jalapeno syrup, lime juice) and both were fantastic. For our lunch we ordered sandwiches (grilled brie cheese with sorghum, arugula, sourdough and Waygu steak with onion, pepper, cheddar, flatbread wrap) and they were amazing! We could not believe the yummy flavor in these seemingly simple dishes. Our server said they make nearly everything in-house and that was evident in the flavors. Okay okay. First timer but also a constant on looker. I live near the place and the restaurant always seems to be "popping". So I said I'll try it tonight. Atmosphere was cool and unique, had some art inside, had a DJ that thought he was creative with the tunes. I like it. 4/5 Food. It was straight. I mean. It was okay. U see stuff on the menu that you don't typically see. I got the octopus crab cake. Octopus crab cake was good, but I would prefer it a little more hot. The food was cold Luke warm at it best 3/5 Shrimp and scallops, it was good but again. Idk if the beans are suppose to be cold but the black beans that came with it could def have been warmer. I wish it was. The shrimp was great tho and the scallops were good to. 3/5 Overall I thought the happy hour was straight. But the waitress was complaining about other tables too us due to her not tending to our table more. 3/5 read more

I have never written a Yelp review before but I had to for Linear. First of all, I'm a huge fan of the location. It's tucked away down Monroe Street right on the river. Can there be a better spot to have dinner and drinks in the summer?? The vibe of the restaurant is great - modern and airy with lots of greenery and cool artwork. The bar menu is extensive with some great specialty cocktails (I highly recommend the smoked bourbon drink if you're a whiskey drinker like me!). Ok, now let's talk about the food. I've already been several times and I have not had a bad meal. The portion sizes are perfect for ordering several courses so be prepared - they are not your typical America sized meals. I love this because it allows you to try a little bit of everything from appetizer to dessert and walk away feeling satisfied but not stuffed. Some of my favorites? The roasted carrot pot de creme is out of this world. Beet gnocchi - an absolute must. Vegan tamale? Check. Yogurt cake with strawberries....unbelievably good. Based on only one visit within the first full week of opening, so my opinion could change, but...wow. Welcoming space which is open but still warm. Service was on point, attentive but not hovering (a common complaint of mine with a new place). The food was really, really good! We had the carrot pot de creme, a salad, soup, quail and scallops (scallops were in place of the salmon, which had been 86ed). I loved everything but my guy's soup-which I thought was just ok. Portions are small, which was fine with us. Wine list seems pretty solid, but the featured cocktails (we tried 2) were on the sweet side for me, but that's just me! If I could give this place 6 stars I would!!! It was my first visit last night and I was impressed from start to finish. The craft cocktails are excellent and half off before 6! Our server Kristen was warm, friendly and helpful. She knew the menu perfectly and all the ingredients for each dish! We had difficulty ordering our food because everything sounded good. I chose the gnocchi and it was delectable. It has a subtle warm sauce of butter and sugar. My daughter ordered the flat iron steak which was tender and delicious. It was served over a combination of carrots, radishes and radish greens. We finished the evening with the best dessert ever- a warm bread pudding with vanilla gelato and a yummy sauce. Chris, the chef and part owner, flew around the restaurant fulfilling many roles. He gave us a quick tour of the kitchen where we met his talented staff. Overall we had a great experience here for my wife's birthday dinner. We had reservations and, despite being a bit early, we were seated right away. The restaurant is situated right on the river and there are a few tables on a patio right near the river. Very nice ambiance- the decor inside the restaurant has many windows so you can see the river. Decor inside is modern and fairly minimal, which we enjoyed. It was cool on a humid day, also appreciated. We started by sharing the cornbread appetizer and the pea soup. The pea soup was light and had Asian flavors, with sesame oil and tofu and fresh peas therein- I really enjoyed it. The cornbread appetizer was just ok. It was a ring of cornbread with some sort of mixture of legumes and mushrooms inside of it, a bit spicy. The cornbread was badly burnt and the whole dish cried out for some sort of creamy/cool element like creme fraiche or sour cream. I had a special of beef medallions over mashed potatoes, topped with micro greens and fried onions, sauced with red wine reduction. The sauce and potatoes were beautiful- somehow the mashed potatoes seemed fairly light and the sauce was not heavy either. The fried onions provided a needed textural element. The steak was not quite right- only one side was seared and the other was a bit gray and chewy. The flavor was still nice, and along with the crunchy onions the texture was redeemed. My wife had the wagu flank steak which was really terrific. It was cooked a little shy of medium and very tender and flavorful. It was served with a large roasted carrot and a potato, which I was told were good. The cocktails looked phenomenal, although I had a nonalcoholic ginger beer and my wife had wine, but I would love to come back and try a cocktail sometime! Overall a very high quality meal and very tasty. The service was very good and very prompt. The portions are a touch small although they were adequate for my wife and I- if you're a larger person or very athletic I would order a couple appetizers. read more

The food here is fantastic, as others have attested. But this review is for the customer service, which was above and beyond. After my salad came out with a cut of Wagyu beef which was fattier than expected (due, in part, to my own ignorance on beef variations), they took it back and remade a fresh salad with a leaner cut of meat. If that wasn't enough, they comped half of it. But that aside, go for the food - in particular, the grilled avocado salad with the red pepper sorbet dressing. read more

Wow! What a find. I happened to meet the owner & Chef at pickleball while visiting from out of town this week. So happy I came to sit at the bar for dinner tonight. Excellent service from the whole staff, tasty Caesar salad & wonderful rockfish main course with farro, vege & tasty sauce plus a s'mores trifle for dessert. What a fantastic spot!!! The patio is awesome with a nice view of the river. The brunch special is a fabulous deal as you get two different entrees and a bottle of champagne for $35!! I got the wagyu flank steak & eggs and my friend got the Latin hash. The steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned fantastic and the Pomme Rösti (shredded potatoes/potato cake) was delicious. My only slight complaint was the steak was a bit fatty but for the price this is truly a very small complaint. My friend really liked her hash too. The service was spot on and they really took care of us while not rushing us at all! I also got a bananas foster type thing for dessert.. not really sure as I ordered it on the fly from what our waitress offered as my friend got some brownies. Although it did seem to almost match the description of the caramelized banana & hazelnut granola on the brunch menu? Either way it was ok but I wouldn't order it again. FYI it does seem that the chef here really likes salt so keep that in mind. They have a super cute inside but too small for me to even consider inside dining right now. The hostess was apologetic but our waitress seemed downright annoyed by us. She came over and asked if we wanted dessert while we were still in the middle of our entrees. And brought the checks immediately on the heels of us saying no. The food-i got Brussels sprouts with phyllo-the phyllo was soggy. Steak was good but nothing to write home about. The potential for an amazing meal was there. A beautiful sunset over the Grand River, two fun couples, and a restaurant with 4 of 5 stars on Yelp. The reality....strong meh. One of our cocktails was served in a dirty glass, when alerted, the bartender made a new drink, but was sure to pass along the message that the large white rings on the side of the glass were not from the dishwasher, but from the orange she rimmed the glass with. Pffffft! She replaced the drink, but why lie? Our first course included the brussels sprouts and charcuterie board. There were four people in our party and two tiny pieces of bread came with the board. We had to ask our server for more. The sprouts were so over cooked and essentially mush. Not good. Our main courses included the Wagyu flank steak- undercooked and cold when served, the quail- cooked well, the pork loin- Great stuffing. Lots of parking, nice view of river- outside seating will be lovely when it opens! Fun drink options and great selection of beers and wine. Super friendly bartenders and wait staff who were excited about their food and drink.... The spring pea soup was outstanding and unique.... I can't stop thinking about it. We shared a vegan tamale at our table which was super flavorful! I had the grilled avocado for dinner- lots of wonderful textures and tastes- the red pepper sorbet atop was unique and yummy playful. Our table shared the panna cotta and bread pudding for dessert- both were outstanding... the bread pudding may have won but both were delicious. Price point and portions were spot on- nothing over $18- fun to taste and share! We found ourselves sharing and sampling all of our plates. This restaurant is the perfect combination of casual and delicious. Fine dining while wearing sneakers and a t-shirt. All the food is fresh - the veggies are especially good. Cool they have excellent meat and fish but also multiple vegetarian/vegan options. Portions are the perfect size but generally small compared to Cheesecake Factory or some other chain. Wow! This place couldn't have been more perfect for us. We needed a chill relaxing environment with a cool urban ambiance and this hit the mark. The owner has an eye for decorating, especially the hanging lights. The food is without exception. First off, the ambiance of this restaurant is amazing. Beautiful river views, ample parking, a modern clean and poetic vibe inside. The service is outstanding, we enjoyed craft cocktails before dinner that were out of this world. I enjoyed the #3, similar to an old fashioned but way better! All the food was mouth watering and amazing! We had the scallop appetizer and the mushroom fondue to start. For the entre my husband had the lamb special and I had the mushroom ravioli with Brussels. Upon the recommendation from the bartender, we shared an an amazing bottle of wine the Tetu. Finally the desert, a carrot cake paired with a port type wine from Spain that paired perfectly. Had great dinner with old friends. Excellent food, drinks and dessert. Only drawback was that they didn't have the on-line reservation I had made through resy more than a week earlier. It was dinner hour on a Saturday and the place was very busy. But the staff was very understanding and managed to find us a nice table for 4 with a view of the river. They said that they have had trouble with resy, so if you are planning on dining at Linear, which I can highly recommend, I suggest you go old school and phone in your reservation. read more

We loved the atmosphere and very friendly staff. My husband flipped over the Miso Salmon but he said the use of salt was a little heavy. I ordered the Roasted Radish and Broccoli Salad with added chicken. Oh my goodness that was salty. It was the first time I had a salad with that level of salt. If it would have been served with half that amount, it would have been perfect. We will return in a month to see if we can update this review. read more
