We have been going to The Cork for many years for family dinners. Last year there was no wait staff and they were out of several menu selections. This year we debated going back but decided to give it a try as this was our place. We will never darken their door again. Our reserved table was given away. 3 week advance on the reservation. We were not late. Seated at a high table that rocked. The manager was rude and offered no explanation or compensation. An appetizer would have been welcome. We were told she gave the table away. Our brand new waitress was doing fine but was very nervous and left after orders were placed. That is not a reflection on her. She needed help and we wish her the best. The food was mediocre at best. We had dinner at CWG last fall to check it out for an upcoming Thanksgiving family weekend. We had heard good things about their Thanksgiving brunch buffet. Our preview dinner was great, so we went ahead with reservations for the brunch. It turned out to be a great decision. On Thanksgiving Day our group of 16 was seated in a semi-private dining room with another large family (two long tables). The food was high quality, delicious and beautifully presented. The service was remarkable, especially given that it was a holiday. How did they get so many fine servers to come in on Thanksgiving? We came here for GR Restaurant Week as the prix fixe menu looked pretty good. We were seated for our reservations at a high top bench seat, which worked out pretty well making us more at eye level with the televisions so that my hubby and I could watch the basketball game. Typically I like to sit in chairs where my feet touch the floor. I did do the Restaurant Week menu and got the clam chowder, braised pork with sweet mashed potatoes and spinach, and the creme brulee. I really liked the options to choose from and all were pretty tasty. Cork Wine & Grille has a great atmosphere with a variety of foods. I made reservations for a Friday night and our table was ready with amazing service. I got the filet mignon which was amazing. It came with mushroom Demi glaze sauce, mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. I loved every bite and the leftovers were even amazing the next day warmed up. The deviled eggs were good with the sriracha sauce and topped with bacon. It was my husbands birthday and we got half off his entree, which is always a fun birthday treat! I highly recommend checking this place out. We will be back to try the Wednesday burrito night or the fried shrimp special on Fridays! read more

We've been going to Cork for many years and realize that it has its days, and then there are others. Unfortunately, we'd invited guests from Chicago to meet us there with the earnest expectation and enthusiasm that this would be one of THE DAYS. It was not. Our server seemed quite uninformed. In response to several questions she had to go ask someone. Apparently she asked the wrong "someone" on one occasion as she came back 10 minutes later with a revised response. She was not very attentive. We had our empty glasses by the edge of the table to attract notice that more were wanted. Finally we had to flag her down. Clearly she was busy as the return drinks took another 10 minutes. (Now that may have been passive aggression.) We all had sandwiches as it was noon. Meh. We sat on the lovely patio, which is indeed a treat, until you get four golfers arriving next to you who assume all are fascinated by their conversations. I could hear them better than I could the people at my table. In summary, we were disappointed, our guests took it as good guests would. Of course we'll return, but need to be more in tune with the variability in the dining experience. I don't think I would invite guests there to impress them. read more

A wonderful brunch with 12 friends yesterday at Cork Wine & Grille. I drove up to Grand Rapids from Kalamazoo for this brunch and I was very impressed with the restaurant and the food. Cork Wine & Grille is part of a country club and it obviously was not busy today since the golf course is not opened yet. Our tables were set up near the beautiful windows that face the course. Our waiter was spot on keeping our water glasses filled, orders taken, and food delivered relatively fast for this many ladies. I opted for a cup of the Squash Bisque and the Watermark Salad. The Squash Bisque was to die for. I finally figured out why. The squash bisque had its flavor heightened with the surprising addition of a sweet-tart apple. The Watermark Salad was also very good. The half order was perfect for me. It was made with greens, candied pecans, strawberries, dried cranberries, bleu cheese crumbles, and a lovely raspberry vinaigrette. We had a party of 10 for New Years Eve and celebrating a birthday. We were able to be seated promptly though drinks took a bit they were excellent. Lobster bisque was meaty and tasty. The Brie appetizer left a lot to be desired and service was spotty. The real reason they lost stars was the inability to cook their steaks to order. When you are charging 40-50 for a steak it should arrive cooked to order. Almost everyone ordered medium rare but the came medium well . We were never asked how they were , also the filet was not as buttery or tender as you would expect. Not sure their supplier but it wasn't prime .... read more

Perhaps the Restaurant Week timing made things challenging, but the wait was extremely long, the restaurant was overcrowded, the service was slow (although very nice!). This restaurant is located within a country club away from the hustle of the city. My husband and I arrived later on a weekend evening and there weren't many people inside the well-appointed restaurant. We were seated at a tall table near the bar. Our server, Francisco, came over immediately and gave us drink and dinner menus. A nearby bartender saw us peeking at the taps and went over their selection with us, then poured a couple Bell's Kalamazoo Stouts. Francisco returned to take our food orders. I went with the 24oz. rib-eye and Jacob went with a shrimp pasta in balsamic vinaigrette. We both ordered soup--French onion for me, chicken paprikas for him. The soup came out after a few minutes. It was some of the best French onion I've ever had! Jacob loved his chicken soup as well. Both were hot and very rich. Our server checked in to make sure everything was good, which I appreciated. Not long after, our entrees came out. My steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. The homemade mashed potatoes and fresh green beans were a tasty complement. Jacob really enjoyed his shrimp pasta as well. Our server checked in on us a couple more times before dropping off the check. Considering the quality of food, the modern environment and excellence of service, I'm surprised our bill wasn't more. We got out for less than $100 after tip. I would definitely dine at Cork in the future and recommend it to anyone looking for a fancier, yet not completely upscale meal. read more

Prepare for long long wait. We've been here many times before. Today was the worst service experience ever. We had 3 small kids and 5 adults. And a very rude server. it took our server Sandra 1 hour to bring soup, which we asked for right away, since we were very hungry. it took also an hour to get glass of Prosecco. Kids were very hungry and youngest started crying. manager came and apologized, but another 30 min later we still didn't have food. even pasta with cheese for kids. We just got up and left. Manager was nowhere to be seen. it was after 8 pm and kids needed to go to bed, though they have not even ate. Reservation was for 6:30. New manager ran after us to offer us food in boxes, which was really nice of her. Waitress Bana was very nice to us too. They gave her to us after first manager stopped by. Food is still good, but things are differently are not going well for this place. Service is ridiculous- we have never in 50 years left restaurant without dinner. Drinks were very good and awesome wine selection. We had yummy apps; sushi stack, chicken wings and Mexican corn dip. They were all fab! I had the shrimp tacos for my dinner and they were outstanding! Breaded shrimp and the toppings were perfect. Others had pizza (yum!), perch (breaded and delicious), and the seafood scampi (great!) We loved the variety of food and I think this place will only get better. One small request: better desserts. I assume they buy them from an outside service and they were very disappointing after such an awesome meal. Not good at all and not fully thawed in some cases. This area is lacking and I hope they adjust this part of the menu, too! read more
