I went into Linen Press for the first time a few Sundays ago. The owners, Mary and Michael, were extremely busy and were so so gracious with all their customers.....that is why I did not mind waiting......when it was my turn they were just wonderful. Lovely lovely shop with such beautiful high end items and quality merchandise. I will be going back soon since I am picking up a gift they ordered for me. Run don't walk away from this store. I went in with my husband and expressed that I liked their items. They asked if we were from the area and my husband stated that he was and I stated that I was not. We were quiet, respectful and did not improperly handle any items. We were looking at items in the store when the woman sternly stated "this is the end of the aisle for our store!" I looked at my husband to see if he drifted somewhere outside of the typical store but he was beside me. We both looked at each other very confused and started walking toward the door. She then stopped us and said "we have been in business for 40 years and do not let TOURISTS go to the part of the store with bed linens. This part is really just by appointment only." There was no signage stating this and the store is simply a rectangular shape with displayed product from front to back of the store. This was the first stop in Mystic for this TOURIST--and left a very bad first impression. Funny enough I was considering buying an item before this interaction--no thank you! read more

The man and woman running this store and awful. As soon as you walk through the door they yell at you about not having drinks or a phone. We didn't have either and were still yelled at. Our reaction was surprise after immediately being barked at by the woman in the back and when we expressed shock she continued to yell at us saying she didn't need our business. Rude and passive aggressive. Keep walking. They don't appreciate customers and to that, it will not be a pleasant shopping experience. I had friends wanting to buy some items, asking performance questions about cookware. Rather than responding with positivity on how great it was and answering the question, the owner picks up a sign and says did you read this?! It was as if she couldn't be bothered by someone wanting to buy that was engaged with her in a demonstration conversation. Weird. The store is crowded with displays- granted items are nice. But everything says do not touch and it's hard not to touch anything with how tight it is in there. They also have no cellphone signs everywhere. And when I say everywhere, I mean everywhere, in an aggressive manner. To this point, as multiple of my friends were engaged in buying (I already determine I would not give her any business, even as a business owner myself), I stepped back out of the traffic lane and behind a do not touch bed that was hard to avoid touching. I admittedly made the mistake to check on my business on my cellphone by looking at the screen when she barked at me "NO CELLPHONES! Didn't you see the signs?!" I was stunned- here I was about 20 feet away and she had about 5 people around her engaged in buying. But she was more concerned about someone quietly looking at a screen. Had she politely reminded me or asked my friends to remind me, it would have been a better situation. Nest time I'm in Mystic, I'll happily go buy from several other stores and walk in with my bags and say, "Remember me?... Big mistake. Big. Huge! I have to go shopping now." read more

I wish I could give this place a negative score. Both times I've walked in I was told very rudely to put away my phone. I think that rule is ridiculous, but then again it's not my business. In my opinion not being able to touch anything or use your cell phone for ANYTHING is not only odd but unnecessary. There is only one person who I've had bad encounters with, which is this old lady. She was the one bombarding me, my friends, and my sisters for having our phones open. She also had a terrible attitude. I went in with my finance to look around and was immediately yelled at when I tried to send a friend of mine a picture of one of her plates I thought he would want me to get for him. Oh well I can buy the plate on Amazon probably where she gets them. Her business her rules but I'm a business owner too and would not treat my customers like that. The business was closed during operating hours, but it it had such a stunning window display. I was taken with a particular piece and decided to call the number on the door to see if I could buy it over the phone. I had a lovely conversation with the owner and she took my credit card information and told me she would ship my piece out the next day. when two weeks later I had not received the tray I purchased (worth noting I had not been charged) I reached out to the business to see when it would ship and when the transaction would go through. The same woman, very nice, told me she never charged me because she didn't have the inventory and wasn't sure if she could sell me what she had now in case they were sold to another customer. I understand the dynamics of inventory in a small business and tried very hard to be understanding. The owner informed me that I had actually asked to purchase a medium tray, not the large one which I know I had requested. Ultimately, I just decided it was too much of a headache went online and found the item. I'm really not a complainer, but this was such a strange interaction. I just had to share it. Is this place a joke?!?! Some type of storefront at a façade for some other type of business??? When you walk in and see all the amazing items and the elderly couple working (owners?) you may think you're in for a sweet experience. You are NOT! I wanted to take a couple pics of items I considered buying (to send home and ask an opinion)...nope!...I was asked to put away my phone. Then I was directed to the MANY signs around the store that said no cell phone use. This includes any photo taking. I decided to let it go...shrugged it off as them being older generation and complied to be respectful. I located two sets of plates that were not bundled together, that were priced separately, and I noticed that one stock had four plates in one stack had three plates so I proceeded to ask the gentleman if it was OK that I touched the plates because I was contemplating buying one of each. He proceeded to tell me that they were sold this set. So I said oh... the price is for the set? He said yes. I said well the other one only has three plates and he said that somebody must have sold one of them. I said well could I purchase one of each plate? He said no. During this time, I should add that my friend who is an accomplished seamstress and custom design designer had gone over and was touching a tablecloth to admire the quality and she was snapped at. My friends ended up leaving and so did I...empty-handed. I'm being serious when I ask how it is possible that anyone buys anything from the store with the type of experience it is. I went online and searched for similar items and found the manufacturer of the items I had liked and ended up purchasing them elsewhere. I will never be back. (no photos... Worst experience I've ever had as a customer in a store. The woman working there was so rude. She stopped what she was doing, which was literally helping a customer, and yelled at my father for having his cell phone out. So unprofessional! Who does that?? If you need that many signs and that level of "security" maybe you should be a "by appointment" only store or just work directly with interior designers. Yelling at and being angry at customers all day for coming into your store and touching things or taking out a phone or taking a picture is part of having a store. I think you don't want pictures taken so people can't go try to find some of your merchandise for lower prices at different stores. BUT MAYBE if your didn't YELL at people when they were in your store, they'd just buy that pretty item right then. Too bad, because there are some really nice things. read more

I called months ago to order the champagne pajamas as a gift for my daughter. They billed me, sent me an email receipt of the billing, and have yet to deliver the pj's they said were "on the way." I have called repeatedly. I have been respectful and patient with Mary, and with Lee and last week a man whose name I did not catch. NO ONE has followed up. No one has sent the pjs. No one has refunded my money. What an absolutely disappointment and if I don't hear back from someone this week I will be filing complaints. I'm not a Karen and life is too short. But to spend 150 on bloody pajamas for my daughter, be billed, and not even get a bloody call back after trying for weeks? Pathetic. read more

Me, my older sister and her friends had entered the store hoping to just look around and browse. We walked in and were not greeted by the lady at the desk (not sure if it was the owner or a worker) however, once we walked past the desk she said, "this store is a phone free zone so don't go on any screens". I found this somewhat odd considering we hadn't even been on our phones and we had been in the store for not even a minute. It seemed like she was stereotyping us for being teens/young adults. My sister then asked her if there was any specific reason for the no screens rule and the lady rudely replied with "this is a zen space, if I even see a screen out I will go crazy." The funniest thing was, right after saying this, her phone went off. Aside from that, my sister had picked up a small souvenir to take a closer look at it (keep in mind this was not a fragile object at all). The lady then immediately walked up to us and aggressively snatched the object out of her hand and said, "if everyone who came in here touched this, it would be broken." (Despite the fact that there wasn't even anyone else in the store). After that we decided to leave the place. Even as we were leaving we were nice, I told her to have a nice day and I was met with nothing but a cold stare. I do not recommend supporting this store unless you want to deal with rude workers and unbelievably high prices. read more

This is a very under rated business in your review. I found the business full of top quality merchandise and the proprietors were most helpful and engaging. Is there a vendetta around this shop? If so, I would suggest that someone should be responsible and give this shop a fair assessment rather than have them victimized by less than worthy customers. I never leave reviews on Yelp unless I have an extremely positive or extremely negative experience. Unfortunately, my experience at the Linen Press in Mystic was about the worst I have experienced in recent memory. Similar to another individual's comment, I was greeted the absolute minute I entered the store to look at the lovely Champagne bottle pajamas hanging in the window. The mostly helpful, seemingly friendly gentleman said that all of the prices were listed and that there were more available in the back. I asked the woman who either owned or worked at the store what brand the pajamas were and the answer was "oh, we get several different brands". Well, that was a non-answer. Everything has a brand name and as a lover of quality linens and pajamas, I wanted to know if it was one I was familiar with. Clearly, she did not want to provide this information. I then carefully picked up a nightshirt hanging near but not in the window to see if I could get additional information such as the brand, material, etc. and the woman literally yelled at me from the back of the store. "Please do not touch our display of items. We have more of those in the back". Then she proceed to exclaim quite loudly that I was removing the stickers from the merchandise. I absolutely was not removing stickers from the merchandise and let her know that. I left the store at that point while my husband purchased a small item at the register and he witnessed her continuing to chastise me, loudly. He finally said, that is my wife you are talking about and she probably would have bought those pajamas but certainly not now. The merchandise is top notch but personally I'd rather support top notch people with top notch merchandise. Nothing in there was so unique that I needed to deal with unprofessionalism on full display. read more

Local mature couple, Mystic residents, who love to support our many local businesses , we were out walking on a few days ago & saw that Linen Press was open-it often is not. Decided to go into the ( otherwise empty) store and the male owner sort of looked up no greeting, no smile..just sort of started at us. We walked about looking at a few things of interest ( noting "Do NOT TOUCH", "Ask for assistance" signs on just about every display- on a few prior visits we got clear messages workers -owners?-did not want to be bothered, however). We picked up a package of cute cocktail napkins ( $6.++) and were standing ready to pay the scowling owner. I spotted a locally themed children's book- our favorite thing to read to young relatives- and brought it over where my husband was just having the napkins rung up. For $17++! My husband,a kind and respectful man, said "wait, they were $6 something". Guy grumbled "it's just an error". Just then I handed the book to him and he said "oh, that book is marked $19.99 but it's gone up to $21something"! I was shocked and said What!? He said (like I was an idiot) EVERYTHING'S gone up in the past few years - it's 5 yrs old!" Huh? I said "you're driving people out of your store"...soooo rude! I returned the book* gently, said no thanks and we left with our overpriced napkins..never again! Stick to the other gracious & lovely stores on the street, Tulips & Peppergrass, Adore, Katherine M, etc. Support local, high quality stores that earn your patronage. *Oh, bought the book, gently used, on Amazon for $5.Happy smiley holidays to all! read more

I have never written a negative Yelp review, and I am a respectful shopper, but felt this needs to be said. Would never recommend shopping here. Was prepared to buy a lovely pair of pajamas. I looked at the price tag and very rude, pretentious woman who owns the shop, ran over to me and asked me not to touch the merchandise with "my dirty gloves" She was on the phone while reprimanding me as though I was a child with dirty hands and proceeded to reposition the price tag. She condescending said " she would tell me the prices. " As she walked away from me, she loudly said to person on the phone. " I'm sure this doesn't happen in your store in Old Greenwich." Not sure how her business can thrive with her discourteous, nasty, snooty attitude. In these volatile economic times, I would think a shopkeeper should treat customers with a smile and helpful attitude. Wouldn't step foot in this awful woman's shop ever again! read more

I was visiting mystic with my extended family over the weekend. We were in desperate need of a new duvet cover for our winter home in the southern peninsula of Sri Lanka. As soon as I entered this store, a strong odor of untreated sewage wafted over me. I was greeted maliciously by the cashier. I immediately gravitated towards the duvet covers. The selection was very limited, which contrasted their website. Looking for a simple, but elegant design to compliment our minimalistic powder room design. My wife, who could not join us, requested photographs of some covers. The cashier immediately informed us that photography wasn't permitted in the store. Seeming to lose her cool, she demanded that all pictures were deleted. I was utterly flabbergasted at this requested. I promptly rounded up my family and exited the store. A 1 star simply does not embody the riveting experience that my family and I had whilst in this establishment. Between their terrible customer service and downright terrible environment, this store doesn't even deserve 1 star. read more

I don't think this store deserves even one star. I agree with every review on here, except for the positive one. The employees, who I assume are the owners were extremely rude and I will never step foot inside their store again. We were visiting Mystic for a few days to celebrate my birthday. The store window displays are very cute, so I told my husband I'd like to look inside to find a birthday gift for myself! As we walked in we were greeted with cold stares, instead of a welcoming "hello!" I felt them watching me the whole time I browsed and I was afraid to touch anything. My husband had an important email he had to answer, so he was looking at his phone (not talking) while I browsed. The woman yelled from the back of the store "SIR...CAN I HELP YOU?" My husband said with a smile, "no thanks I'm just waiting for my wife!" She stared back at him, no smile, and then yelled, "We don't want people standing in the store staring at their phone!" He said "got it" and we left the store immediately without purchasing anything. Too bad for them. If they have silly rules like this, then they should be posted. We are an older couple, dressed very neatly, and we were very polite while in the store. We were treated like two delinquent teenagers who were going to cause trouble. This is the first review I have ever done, but this experience made me angry and sad. It really put a damper on what started out as a great birthday. read more

It is my preference that Yelp use negative stars. So consider the ranking a negative five. We ordered napkins, placemats, and table clothes from this company which they assured would be available within a few days. Apparently, the manufacturer stopped making them and they contacted us with other suggestions. We reviewed the new proposals and determined they were not what we were looking for and asked for a refund. They said they would. After several calls dealing with associates we were told that it would be forthcoming. No such credit was returned to our credit card. All those nice things in the window that you see at the store are there to entice you to give your money to them with no hope of order fulfillment nor receipt of your money back. I would avoid the place! They also have a store in Greenwich ct.... Save yourself money and time and buy from someone else. read more

Very bad store policies! We went to purchase mugs that were priced separately and were told we had to purchase four. They were individually priced. The employee decided that she would sell two instead of four. The employee kept saying the policies were the owners, but would then make comments that implied she was the owner. For example," I can't do business like that." One of the mugs was damaged by the time I got home, they were improperly packed. I called on the phone and they claimed they would replace and took my address. I have never received the mug. read more
