This is a "PT mill" where I was injured (rather seriously) by two PTs at this location. The Spear…read morePTs are guided by the Spear-branded algorithms and apps rather than having the in-depth knowledge of bodies, injuries, personal history and anatomy of the person being treated. The PTs were very nice people, but watch out if you are older than a 20-something and have an actual physical/medical/rehabilitative issue rather than a superficial sports injury. Unfortunately the field has been over-run by these PT mills catering to sports injuries, rather than actual rehabilitative physical therapy. I've had to see several doctors, an orthopedic surgeon and am now seeing a real PT. The only positive thing I can say is that space is nice, and all the PTs are hip and smile a lot when they are not looking at their phone or computer.

I do not and was shocked to see about 8-10 other patients being treated in the same small store-front office. There are no private spaces--the treatment tables are literally a foot or two apart. What's more, they called to cancel my first appointment with no explanation. When I finally arrived for my rescheduled one, I was given redundant paper and iPad forms to fill out. I then had to compete with three other waiting patients for a chair in the waiting area (there are only two). My PT seemed friendly but she totally misdiagnosed my injury and did not help me feel better.

I had tried another local PT and had a terrible experience, but from the moment I came in to HoPT, I knew I was in the right hands. Shannon has treated me with such care, empathy, and professionalism. She is incredibly kind, encouraging, deeply knowledgeable, and attentive. Early in my recovery, she noticed that my surgical wound showed signs of infection and thanks to her sharp instincts, I was able to get a 2nd surgery to clean and re-close the wound before things got worse. Even when I was on crutches, she thoughtfully challenged me with tailored exercises to rebuild strength and mobility. She struck the perfect balance between compassion and push, motivating me to keep working hard and trust the process. At my 5-month post-op, my surgeon told me I was healing like someone 8 months out, and I have Shannon to thank for that. I'm running again, feeling stronger, and experiencing less pain. Sessions were one on one with manual therapy combined with active stretches/exercises. This was not my first experience with physical therapy and by far the most personalized + helpful. Grayson is very encouraging and allows you to push to new limits each session when it sometimes seems unthinkable. He setup a customized PT program tailored exactly to my injury and weekly progress. He demonstrated all of the exercises and reviewed weekly to reinforce proper technique to target injury. Grayson is extremely knowledgeable with a focus towards treating the injury as well as muscle groups around it to prevent future injuries. His Movement Vault videos are a great resource post recovery. If you follow his program, you will see results. Grayson maintained an accommodating schedule with a convenient location in Williamsburg, BK and was diligent about confirming sessions or rescheduling if needed. Sessions took place in a clean and organized facility with good selection of music to make these sessions feel more relaxed. Don't get me wrong - you don't get to lay back and watch your body heal (well, actually, the sessions certainly seem that way) - you'll have to do your homework in the form of the carefully curated mobility regimen they set up for you. But if you do the work and apply the knowledge, you'll get the same fantastic results I did. She also frequently coached me via text, which often was able to be in "real time" (e.g. if I was at a grocery store by myself trying to figure something out) and Monique would give me feedback if she was available at the time. (I'm realizing I sound kind of needy as I write this, but fortunately she was totally cool with it!) Another interesting factoid is that apparently she herself is omnivorous (while still erring more on the "plant-based" side of things), but is also trained as a "Raw Vegan Chef" (in addition to more generally being a Holistic Nutritionist), so I can see her appealing to people with many different types of dietary restrictions or preferences. Also, I personally was extremely unsophisticated about food/health at the time that Monique started coaching me, so she simplified her approach in accordance with my primitive level of nutritional knowledge. She was up for the challenge and it was a HUGE success. Her attention to detail, our needs and preferences is so appreciated and valuable. The process of recipe selection was easy and went from snacks to dessert. A simple shopping list, fun foods to make and great company made it an amazing event, not another to-do! I learned so many new skills and most importantly got my 5-year-old eating eggplant, cabbage and other delicious snacks and meals that he would have previously dismissed. The best was at the end of the our time together my son came home from camp. He saw the freshly made stuffed cabbage on the stove and immediately said "Noodles, I want that!" - I let it be and he ate 2 stuffed cabbage rolls! I've since evolved the recipe to cabbage noodles with meat sauce. My approach to cooking has changed because of Monique and I am forever grateful! I had a blast.
