We'd been to The Lions Den once before and had a decent experience, so we came back hoping for the same. Unfortunately this visit was a real letdown, and not just because of the food. I ordered the Icelandic Cod (fish and chips) and it was disappointing -- three identical, oddly uniform pieces, same shape and breading, greasy and completely flavorless. I could only bring myself to eat one of the three. My husband's prime rib special arrived room temperature and had to be sent back to be reheated. For $71.33 (plus his beer), with the fish and chips alone over $20 and the prime rib $37, I expected a lot better. Then came the part that really soured the whole experience. We paid in cash, left $85 on the table, and headed out. My husband realized he'd left his phone behind and went back in to grab it. When I followed to help, I was suddenly surrounded by five staff members accusing us of only leaving $2 on the table. It was chaotic and honestly humiliating -- another server got right in my face asking if there was a problem. After several confused minutes, someone finally realized it wasn't even our table they were thinking of, handed me the phone, and that was it -- no apology, nothing. The food wasn't good enough to justify going back. And, being accused of stiffing a bill we more than covered......we won't be back. read more

Coming back after years away. Lions den is a football memorabilia place. We walk in and see an island of grandma flowers and niknak surrounding the fireplace and dining area. Inflatable rainbow all among the football helmets. Disappointing to say the least !! read more

It was my first time here, with my girlfriend and her little one. It's a really local joint; you can tell there's a ton of regulars and for good reason. When we walked in we were warmly greeted and then sat within a minute or two. Our server came straight away. Loretta was wonderful. She took our drink order and then our food order, and our salads were in front of us in a blink with a side of breadsticks and butter to share. She was really attentive grabbing a water and a sauce for our kiddos chicken strip basket (which looked panko crusted and golden perfection). My chicken Marsala was pretty good and my girl ordered the blackened chicken fettuccine which she loved. We were well fed and in and out in no time. I'd absolutely come back. read more

In Michigan to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary. Asked the hotel where we could go for a good steak and they suggested the Lions Den which is right around the corner. The steak was ordered medium but was nearly fully cooked, anemic looking with absolutely no flavor! We should have complianed but our server was extremely friendly and we did not feel like creating a scene. The server is the only reason we are giving 2 stars rather than 1. The other food maybe good but do not EVER order a steak! We came back to the room and had a dominos pizza delivered to get rid of the after taste of the anemic steak. Not sure if they do the business they do because of the Detroit Lions memorabella or if the other items on the menu are good but they were busy! Worst $85 dollars we have ever spent! read more

We had excellent service. The Lion's Den serves complimentary pop corn which is a nice touch. The bread basket was very good. The entrees were disappointing. One person ordered the beef medallions which were describe to come with grilled onions and mushrooms. The mushrooms were from a can rather than fresh. It was in a gravy which was not in the description. The food is not high quality, the portions are large and the prices are reasonable. My sister was getting hangry, and the place we'd started out for was closed. We were originally heading to another place in Waterford, and then, she remembered the Lion's Den. We'd been there before, so I thought it was a good place to go. First, I am always amused that they serve popcorn as an appetizer -- and it's freshly popped! Our server, Holly, was very friendly an efficient. My sister got the hot roast beef sandwich -- two thick pieces of bread with roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy. She said it was really good, and she ate all of it! I had the chargrilled chicken sandwich with sauteed onions (I didn't realize there was going to be an additional charge for those) and I substituted mashed potatoes for the fries. Honestly, it was one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had. I only ate half at the time, but I took the rest home for lunch the next day. My only complaint, as usual, is the price they charge for iced tea. Honestly, I do not understand how restaurants have the audacity to charge over $3.00 for a beverage that can't cost them more than 25 cents to make. Still love coming here. We prefer sitting over on the fireplace side of the restaurant, the warmth of the fire with the Christmas decorations this time of year just feels fun! We were seated quickly, but the server did take awhile to get to us - they were very busy, so it was fine. Once our server came over, she kept the pop/tea refills coming and of course the complimentary popcorn ( so addicting). All of the meals were excellent - A LOT of food for the price! We all had to get to-go boxes as we couldn't eat everything. Such a good time at Lion's Den and glad to see they changed some of the names of food items to reflect the current Lions team. read more

Lion's Den has the look of a sports bar. But, when you look at the sprawling menu, it has the feel of a diner. But, the sum of the parts is greater than either. Most sports bars have televisions all over the place, but very little in the way of sports memorabilia. The Lion's Den is practically a sports museum. Everywhere you look, there are dozens of vintage photographs, helmets from professional and college sports teams, and assorted other sports related things. It's very likely you will have to come back here several times to see them all. The main dining area feels more like a dining area than a sports bar, but there are a few big screen TVs, so you can watch the game. But, this blows away any standard family dining establishment. Yes, they do have an assortment of possibly too many things on the menu. But, what they have is very good. It starts very simply, with a bowl of popcorn. To be honest, I looked at it and thought to myself , "I know places don't serve complementary bread anymore, but...popcorn? " In case you come here and think the same thing, do yourself a favor: shut up and eat the popcorn. This is really good, like movie popcorn. There's a good reason for that: they have a movie theater style popcorn maker just outside the kitchen. They do have bread, and it's very good...a subtle garlic salt and butter coating on freshly baked bread sticks. There's a recurring theme with me and the places that sell sandwiches: I always try their Reuben as my first choice. This one is loaded with corned beef and sauerkraut, with a buttery crust on the rye bread. The fries are crispy, with seasoning so good that I didn't need ketchup. My wife ordered a beautifully blackened salmon with buttery mashed potatoes and a surprisingly good vegetable medley. I say "surprisingly" because my wife usually pushes the vegetables aside. But there was a lot of care taken with the prep on these. They had a savory quality that really elevated these simple ingredients. Despite it being a mostly packed house, the service was very good. The food arrived after a reasonable amount of time...and there was the popcorn to tide us over while we waited. Definitely somewhere we want to try again if we're in the area. read more

The Lion's Den has been a Waterford staple for as long as I can remember. This quintessential sports bar is great for a beer and a burger or a good salad. They also have dishes that are a little more hearty, such as steak, medallions or chicken piccata. This place is always packed because it's a neighborhood favorite so get there early or be prepared to wait. The food is good, the service is awesome, and you won't find many other places on that side of town that are as much fun to catch a Lions game at. read more

I've been coming to this location for a long time with my family. My dad loves it. I don't see it that much very traditional old-school menu serving you. Anything that you might be able to cook at home and you might be a little bit better the service is always very friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. My favorite thing about this place is all the helmets that line the roofing inside. read more

I raved about good food, especially their fish. So 7 of my friends and I went for lunch. 3 ordered fish and 3 ordered salmon, 2 ordered pu ordered pizza. Only the salmon was given a very good review. The fish was soggy not hot and no one liked it. The pizza was under cooked, crust soggy and very little toppings. I was ashamed of what was brought to the table. I will not recommend this place again. I have been coming here for years, ( over 10). But I will not be back and will for sure not recommend it ever again. The only thing that was a nice treat was the popcorn served when we arrived. Big disappointment by everyone and an embarrassment to me for recommending the Restaraunt and the fish. Always reliable -- I've been coming here since the 1970s and it's always good. Some of my favorites: the prime rib (get the "Uncle Buck" cut if you're hungry), the baked spaghetti, the steak medallions/tournedos, and -- though I haven't had them in decades -- the frog legs. And of course their signature vinaigrette coleslaw and breadsticks! We also have always loved that they bring popcorn to the table when you are seated. I also swear that the soundtrack (which is probably SiriusXM radio) is playing the same songs I heard here in 1979... not that that is a bad thing! There's often a wait on the weekend or on a game day, but it's worth it. On Sept. 28th our party of six had dinner at 5:30 p. We all agreed it was the worst dining experience ever. Our waitress did everything wrong. She was in her 50's and said she was new. She complained to us that the reason everything was slow and wrong was because Lion's Den did not provide them training. We had to seek the manager twice (which we really didn't want to do). The manager finally added an extra waiter to help sort out our meals and drinks (meals and drink and water orders were coming one at a time, to one diner at a time). We received no apology for cold, soggy food, wrong orders that had to be returned, missing items and an inordinate wait time. We will not be returning! read more

I remembered this spot from my childhood! My oldest brother brought me just to peep the NFL Wall of Fame. My family lives for football, so of course I'm biased. The staff here was very friendly and accommodating. My friend made a reservation for 12 for a birthday celebration. We were seated right by the fireplace (prime real estate). The birthday boy didn't get there until after 8! Through the late arrivals (there was another after 9), the food sent back, the marijuana blunt a member of our party rolled at the table, the waitstaff was gracious through it all! My dad used to take us here all the time years ago, I was pretty excited to go back. I came back with my husband and family. The food was not good at all. The hamburger dry, unseasoned, bland and looked disgusting. The mash potatoes tasted fake and looked so fake. I had the French dip sandwich, it was very unflavorful and dry. I asked for steak fries and she gave me regular fries. It took about 15-20 from sitting down to get our drinks. The server was impatient and not truly attentive at all. It seemed like she had 3-4 tables and couldn't seem to handle just a few tables. The girl at the bar sat down about the same time we did and she had gotten her drink and food much quicker. We will not be coming back. Very disappointing especially for a holiday. The food was not up to par with the pricing either. Cool place in Waterford for some yummy food. Came here for lunch with colleagues and they accommodated the 7 of us without issue. The restaurant feels warm and cozy, us sitting next to the fireplace may have contributed to this! Place felt clean and spacious. Bathrooms were nice and had about 3 stalls. Our waitress gave us great service. She was attentive to our drinks and quick with getting our checks to us - especially with us having to get back to work - I appreciated this! Lots of option on the menu but I went with the lunch special of a cup of a soup and half sandwich. The french onion soup my colleagues said was very good - good temperature and cheese ratios. The butternut squash soup was very good, especially sitting right next to the fire - how cozy winter can you get? Complimentary popcorn was also yummy and addicting. Buttery and warm. Their bread sticks were SO good - garlic and carbs ugh, so good. Sticks were hot and the added butter on them hit the spot. My half sandwich I felt was a little small - but I understand it was HALF a sandwich and was for lunch. BLT had crispy and crunchy bacon. Good portion of lettuce and tomato as well. The Lions Den is a place out of the past. It has a comfortable timeless atmosphere. Everyone from the hostess to the bartenders and servers are extremely nice people. I have yet to have a less than excellent experience dealing with the people. The menu is amazing with nothing bad. The Perch is outstanding I prefer sauteed over fried but both are great. The pizza is excellent ( order it well done). The Steak Diane is a dish you usually find at fine dining establishments and is delicious. My favorite dish however is the Baked Spaghetti. Last the soups are to die for. In my book dollar for dollar The Lions Den is my favorite moderately priced restaurant in Metro Detroit. The variety on the menu separates it from the best of the rest. read more
