They even have a closet of expensive rare bottles. Extensive wine selection, whiskey, tequila, vodka, beer, novelty items and so much more. Service was fantastic they will help you find or recommend a bottle to suit your needs. It's a friendly vibes with a small town feel. I'm glad we stopped by during our trip. This liquor store is awesome! They have a great selection and the staff there are not only friendly but very helpful as well. I was there to buy a really good bottle of Vodka for my husband for the holidays and had no clue which one to buy. This is a fairly large store. We had passed it and thought we'd just get some beer to chill on the patio with. He didn't find the beer he wanted but he found a substitute. Lots of cool decor. Everything is fairly well laid out. I thought the turkey container was cute and the Jim Beam barrel snowman. Some ladies were shopping wines for their party and having lots of fun. The associate wasn't friendly and actually seemed suspicious of me wandering around looking at everything. But we got what we wanted. The parking lot entrance seems to be one way in and one way out but it's not marked. It's a steep slope driveway which curves on the front side so be careful. read more

The folks at LW did me a favor. There's a Bourbon from Boulder Spirits (Vapor Distillery) that is unavailable up in Portland, OR. I was going do be driving through the Moab/Durango area and figured with a few phone calls, I should be able to grab a few bottles. I called them up, they were super-helpful in figuring out exactly what I wanted and said that they would order it and they would be there when I got there. A few weeks later, when I walked in, they went in back and pulled out a box with my name on it and the bottles I had requested. Nicely done! That's how it should work. Friendly and helpful staff. Was able to find a couple of bottles of the local Honey House Distillery Straight Bourbon Whiskey which is to my knowledge not something you can find or order at Total Wine or Goody Goody. read more

I may or may not have stopped here to pick up some delicious Ska, Durango Brewing Company and Steamworks beer to take back to Las Vegas with me. There selection of cold beer is pretty spectacular and rivals some of the larger places I frequent when I go to Denver. I was also very happy to find a decent selection of bombers. I expected to find a big selection of Durango beer here, and I did. But I didn't expect the selection of West Coast beers. I now live on the West Coast and had never seen many of the beers I now drink before I moved here. There were multiple Alaska brews available, as well as some of the more regional California beers. The prices weren't that bad, and I was (or was not) able to load up on some good beer to share with my friends back home. read more

Want to be insulted? Shop here. Liquor World has been around for a while. If you're shopping for a handle of cheap vodka or Coors Light, you'll probably be fine, but if you're looking for something remotely nice, beware. I bought a bottle of 1983 Taylor Fladgate port for my wife for Christmas from Liquor World. When we finally opened it, it was corked... The cork had halfway disintegrated, and some of the wine had leaked through the wrapper. We decanted the port and ran it through a filter. The port wasn't vinegar, but it was completely oxidized. None of the explosive flavors you would expect from an expensive, almost 40-year-old port. We saved the cork pieces, poured the wine back into the bottle, and the next day I returned to Liquor World with my receipt and the spoilt bottle of Taylor Fladgate. I spoke with a woman named Sherry Wertz, who is the owner of Liquor World. I explained what had happened and showed her my receipt and asked for a refund. She took the bottle of port from me, asked me to wait, and disappeared in the back of the store. After a few minutes, she came back out and told me that she and another employee had tasted the port and they thought it was fine. I said, "Well, I don't agree with you. I didn't pay $100 for a bottle of port that 'tastes fine.' It should be exceptional." I reiterated that the cork was destroyed and this had oxidized the wine. Sherry told me she was going to have her wine rep come by and taste the port. At this point, I left--I was getting angry--and came home. I called Liquor World and spoke to someone named Michael, who talked down to me and asked if I even knew what I was buying when I purchased the port. I then spoke to Sherry who refused to give me a refund, was rude to my wife, and again said that my opinion of the port wasn't good enough. They wanted their rep to taste it first. She said she would call me and let me know. Days later, she hasn't bothered to call (I did), so I'm posting this review. Liquor World carries a lot of high end alcohol, some of it priced above $1,000. If you're in the market for expensive spirits, just know that Liquor World DOES NOT stand behind their products. The customer is not right. Sherry and her staff are rude and condescending. I will never go back. This is a store that should only be selling 3.2 beer and Yellow Tail wine--anything more expensive and just know that it probably isn't being stored correctly, and when you call them out on it, you will be insulted, talked down to, and most importantly, you will not get your money back. The premiere liquor store in Durango is Star Liquors. I had a similar situation with them, and they immediately refunded me, no questions asked, didn't even ask for a receipt. They're professionals who appreciate their customers. Sherry and Liquor World should stick to selling shitty beer. read more

Wonderful staff! 3 staff members asked if they could help me. One woman make an excellent vodka recommendation followed by the perfect juice to mix it with. We made her creation at home and it was delicious! Another young man took us to the exact section we needed for the wine we were looking for. Such a friendly, welcoming environment! What an awesome liquor store. There are many selections, and dang near everything is in stock. Some stuff has been sitting on the shelves for a while - long enough to collect dust - and hey... I'm not all about the dust, but at least I know that the wine I'm gonna buy didn't just come out of a cold cooler somewhere... it's been sitting at room temp for a while (how I prefer my wine). The cashier was friendly. Checked my ID (I'm 25, but I was 21 when I first went in there). He made some cool suggestions for new things that I hadn't tried before based on just talking to me for a couple minutes. Great location - right off of Camino Del Rio, right by the Albertson's, Starbucks, Denny's, bus stop, and the old PCC building. read more

I'm still shocked at what happened here today. The clerk thought my ID was fake so naturally, I guess, she called the cops. Being 26 I argued a bit and eventually just asked for it back so I could buy beer some where else. But she wouldn't give it back and basically held me hostage until the cops came. The clerk then told the police officer I was being irate, which prompted him to question how much I'd been drinking and threaten to arrest me. I feel violated. read more
