Sometimes some of the best spots are close to home and right under your nose and it takes a recommendation from your barber to finally bring you there. That is exactly what happened at this spot, a hidden gem located right off a jug handle on Route 37. Right from our first visit we were greeted with a friendly smile from the owner, Lisa and led right in to the cozy, beautifully decorated dining area by one of her young waitresses who was also so sweet and friendly. We were there during their early bird specials which is such a great deal that includes soup, salad and an entree served with your choice of pasta. The soup was Lentil Soup which was authentic and delicious. The garden salad was fresh and also very good. For my entree i went with the Shrimp Parmigiana with a penne pasta on the side. This was excellent, five extra large shrimp served in a light sauce and covered with parmigiana cheese. My wife had the Chicken French Style, the chicken was pounded thin, fried perfectly and served in a wonderful Francese sauce over penne pasta, so delicious. I'd be remiss if I forgot to mention the fresh bread, made in house as well as some complimentary Garlic Knots which were maybe the best we've ever had. They also have a great selection of desserts which we couldn't pass up. Tried the Caramel Vanilla Cake which was just a perfect ending to a perfect meal. This is such a great spot, we felt right at home on our first visit, the food is great, the owner is wonderful and since it is close to home we are sure to be here quite frequently. read more

I found this local pizza place while visiting another business in the shopping center. I was greeted when walked in. The counter had a good variety of specialty slices with Bbq and buffalo chicken, Sicilian, vegi, white and more. I went with the eggplant. It was a big slice with 3 pieces of eggplant. Crust was crispy and had a good flavor. I really liked the eggplant. It was more then just thin breading. You could taste the tender eggplant. The pizza sauce and ricotta were flavorful. The hearty slice was filling and the staff friendly. I would definitely return my next time in the area and love to try a dinner. read more

My mom and friend went yesterday for Mothers Day. My mom likes the calamari. They were given a small potted plant for Mothers Day. The couple that were sitting behind them did not want their plant so they gave it to them. When my mom and friend were leaving, they were told they could not leave with the second plant due to more people coming in. I called this restaurant and ordered a pizza thinking I was calling my local pizzeria with the same name in Lawrence Harbor on Route 35! If it was close by I would have just come anyway, but we are all the way up in South Amboy. When I called them to let them know I had made a mistake and wouldn't be coming to get the pizza the man on the phone couldn't have been more understanding. On April 3, 2021, my sister and I stopped at Lisa Pizza On Rt 37 in Toms River. The balls! It states right on the entry door, "You cannot bring your own bottled water, (ergo you HAVE TO BUY THE WATER FROM them,) I asked for a glass of water inside and the waitress said, "we don't serve water , you have to buy it" We ordered our meal, I cannot drink carbonated sodas nor do I drink coffee because I am also Lactose intolerant. The waitress coldly said, "we don't offer water, you have to buy a bottle of water from us. Whaaat? I've been in Europe, all over North America and I have NEVER heard of such a con job. Has the owner ever given any thought about what happens if someone chokes on his food? I hope his semi-friendly staff knows the Heimlich maneuver. I have only begun my gripe, I am contacting the Toms River Health Dep't and other complaint sites. This should be illegal. The food is not that great either, you'd think Chicken Francaise and Spaghetti and meatballs is not a hard meal to make, but Lisa found a way to make it unappealing. It wasn't only because we were upset about the water issue. We brought our leftovers home and ended up throwing them out. Listen to this, I called the department of health in Toms River and they said there is no law that says you have to serve water with a meal .On 12/16/21, a group of 6 get together and we try out different restaurants. Around Thanksgiving, I was assisting my aunt with her move into assisted living. She lives in Holiday City, Toms River. She's 92 years old. We went to Lisa's to get a few slices of pizza for lunch. The counter was crowded with quite a few customers. I ordered four slices of pizza and a worker put them in the oven. My aunt sat down at a table by the wall. She wanted tap water. I was going to get a Coke for myself. Finally, the crowd cleared and I approached the counter. Before I could open my mouth, the white-haired owner (Dennis) started yelling at me. Apparently, my half empty bottle of water (which I'd been carrying around since morning) offended him. He went off on a crazy rant about how I was cutting into his profits and needed to purchase a bottle of water from him. People around the counter were laughing, unsure of whether he was serious or not. He kept asking me "did I think it was fair" to buy water from another place (it actually came from the Supermarket, in a pack of 26, and the rest were in my kitchen, an hour away) and then bring it into his store!! He kept pointing menacingly to the fridge containing the bottled water. Finally, one of the customers said, "I think he's serious." Dennis responded, "Of course I'm serious!" and I said to the customer, "I'm not buying that water. If my aunt weren't here, I'd walk out right now." Then to Dennis, "Can I please have two tap waters?" Dennis continued demanding that I buy his water. Customers kept laughing and then started leaving, "See you later, Dennis!" Finally, Dennis barked, "Four slices!" and I went over to the counter to retrieve them. I put them down on the table, and said loudly to my aunt, "He said you can't have any water." All of a sudden, Dennis began moving in fast motion. "You want water??" His hands moved under the fountain in a blur, filling two glasses with ice and water. I took the glasses from him and brought them over to the table. My aunt was oblivious to all of it. We were the only customers in the restaurant and we finished our pizza and water and then left. Not only did Dennis lose the profits from a Coke, he also lost a customer and any profits he may have gained from me in the future. I'm willing to bet if a large man, 20 years his junior, entered the restaurant with a water bottle, he'd have managed to look the other way. I guess he thought I was an easy target. Maybe after this review he'll think differently about how he treats his customers (but probably not, now that I've read the other reviews). I'll never step foot in there again. I recommend Rosato's Pizza, which is just up Mule Road (at Davenport). The pizza is just as good, the owner isn't a lunatic, and the servers are nice. read more

We just got back from an incredible meal at Lisa's Italian Restaurant in Tom's River NJ. We were looking for a place to celebrate my father-in- law's Birthday and our usual place was not able to accommodate us for hours. The guest of honor suggested that we try Lisa's located in the strip center at the intersection of route 37 and Mule Road. There was no wait for a table at Lisa's but there should have been. The meals we ate were worth waiting for. The restaurant is a pizzeria in the front and a modest dining room behind. It is not a fancy place. They do not serve alcohol so bring your own wine. The menu is vast and includes all traditional Italian dishes from spaghetti to much more elegant veal entrees. Three servers working the dining room could not have been friendlier or more attentive. Warm garlic knots and crunchy Italian bread were first to arrive on our table. We enjoyed clams casino and an Italian sampler of calamari, mozzarella and breaded fried ravioli. After some nice salads, the meals arrived. The veal and shrimp special with melted cheese and mushrooms over angel hair pasta, the chicken parmesan, the veal scaloppini, and the eggplant rollatini were all very fresh delicious. Everyone was very pleased. The cannolis were a wonderful way to complete this experience. Lisa's is an undiscovered gem that everyone should try. I've been to Lisa's many times when visiting my parents, and it is definitely southern Italian comfort food rather than gourmet froo-froo. And that's always been OK because it's good, honest food.. But this last time, it really seemed to be sliding downhill. Our calamari was oily and appetizers were uninspired. All pastas were oversauced and lukewarm. My dad's veal parm looked like it had a slice of cheap deli cheese and ladle of canned sauced slapped on top of it. My risotto was not risotto. The menu's promise of arborio rice went unfulfilled. I had a weird oversauced pilaf, not risotto. Now I love a good friendly Jersey waitress but our ladies seemed borderline loony and just went on a bit too long and invasively about everything. Enough with the chatter! And no, I don't want my red wine on ice! After this last visit, my husband and I decided we need to find a new Jersey Italian hangout, which is a bummer. read more

Rude rude rude! I called and ordered a pizza with wings and mozzarella sticks and was told it was pick up only. So regardless, I ordered and planned on my mom picking up the order on her way home from work. We put it under my mom's name and when asked to pay with a card over the phone and the guy on the phone said he's too busy to take a card over the phone. Whatever, we want pizza. So my mom shows up and they do not have an order for that name. She explains what it is and he says okay that it is ready. So she waits outside for over 20 minutes for an order that is "ready." While waiting she held the door for the delivery guy several times (even though they aren't delivering?) not once did the rude son of a b**** say thank you. She finally asked if the delivery guy could check on her order for her since she can't go inside, and he threw up his hands and yelled back at her "wow, lady. You know the rules you know how it goes. Sit down!" As if he was talking to a rowdy crowd, when it was just my mom and one other customer there. My mom is so sweet, I cannot believe she has been treated this way. I am beside myself trying to understand how Lisa's allows employees to treat paying customers like this! Needless to say, she left without her order, refusing to take any more of this verbal abuse. My boyfriend and I love this place. To start with, the staff is so friendly. I am acknowledged by literally every worker when I enter and leave. Their dining room is private and quiet, which is a plus. The food always comes fast and hot. I definitely recommend their Alfredo.
