If I had to choose between Ellio's frozen "pizza" and a pie from Joe Spano's, I'd honestly reach for the Ellio's and nom on it while its frozen. First, I despise the whole Yelp community because so many of the people reviewing are white-privileged, stuck up blow hards with the "I'd Like To Speak To Your Manager" haircut. I'm not looking to make anyone go out of business. Point Pleasant has way too many pizza joints. I used to live here a long time ago. There were 3 back then. Pats reigned supreme. Not anymore. I ordered a 12" cheesesteak pizza. STEAK, being the operative word. What I got was, ugh. I got some bottom half of a pie shell with flavorless cheese, then I saw some of that "grated" cheese you buy off the grocery store shelf that somehow doesn't need refrigeration and what I'm guessing was some sort of meat that is supposed to be sausage-maybe? I mean, I didn't order sausage. And if I did, I would have been pissed. Nothing had flavor. The only reason why I didn't bring it back was that I was absolutely famished. I begrudgingly are 3 slices. It was truly horrible. A cheesesteak pizza, universally, from my experience comes with pieces of steak (even Steak-Ums would have even better) and AMERICAN CHEESE. This was garbage. Good student specials, I always get the penne vodka with chicken and it comes with 2 focaccia squares for five dollars. Their regular meals can be a little pricey though, my mom got the chicken parm dinner and it was $16. The spaghetti was over cooked, but the bread it came with was fresh. Pasta in vodka sauce is good, not always served exactly the same but I have ordered it many times as well. Chicken Parm is hit or miss , last time I ordered it we each took one bite and threw it out. I will never order from Spanos again. Long time customer too. It's an unfortunate situation the Uber driver took the wrong order out for delivery. We didn't accept the order. He told us to call Spanos. So we did Amanda tried to make it right. She said I'm literally staring at your order--the Uber driver did take the wrong order. She said she'd get Spanos driver to bring us the correct order. Amanda's boss made her call us back and tell us we're no longer getting our order and we have to get in touch with Uber. Meanwhile our order is there, paid for and everything. Why wouldn't you try to make it right for a customer is beyond me. Fan..friggin..tastic. These are Tomato Pies, not to be confused with pizza pies. The main distinction between the two is the order in which the ingredients are laid down. In the traditional pizza it's dough, sauce, and cheese (+toppings, if any). In a Tomato Pie the cheese is put on the crust first, and then the sauce. BTW, they also have traditional pizza, which is OK, but the thing to get is the Tomato Pie. The crust was the right texture, crusty but not cracker-like (as in Pete & Elda's in Neptune) and THIN. IMAO, that's a prerequisite for any good pie. The sauce was well seasoned and not too acidic. The nice thing about about tomato pies, or the couple I've had, anyway, is that you don't have the oil (actually fat rendered from the cheese) just sitting on top of the pie. My GF always dabs that off with a napkin. After having eaten here, and at Delorenzo's in Robbinsville, I am starting to favor the Tomato Pie. This place is good, but the king is still DeLorenzo's. So if you're out near the Trenton area, I strongly recommend treating yourself at Delorenzo's. Go early cause I'm told there's usually a line. I'm not 100% positive, but I believe that Tomato Pies started in the Philly area. The conventional pie most of us know, with the cheese on top, is a NY/Jersey thing. So call me a traitor. read more

As part of my full disclosure, I will admit that I can only speak to the takeout/delivery experience here. We have ordered food from Spano's around five times over the last three months or so (and a couple of times last year), and have not been disappointed yet. Delivery is fast and courteous, and the prices seem reasonable if not somewhat inexpensive. We had it narrowed down to Joey Tomatoes and Spano's Tomato Pies, so we decided to ask the desk clerk at the hotel we were staying at. We asked where the best pizza in Pt. Pleasant was, and he told us that it was Spano's. He also admitted that the owner of Spano's also had something to do with the hotel, but when asked said his recommendation had nothing to do with that. Point Pleasant is a town with seemingly dozens or hundreds of pizza joints. It's a joke among the locals, every time a new one opens: "Oh, good, because we really needed a pizza place in town." For many years, Pat's was the king of pizza here. But Pat is long gone from Pat's, and the pizza there has declined and isn't as consistent, either. Spano's has taken over as the Best Pizza In Point Pleasant. The crust is thin, the sauce is excellent, everything is just right. This is world-class pizza. It can be difficult for a visitor to decide which of the myriad pizza joints to visit. Spano's is the one to choose. The cheese steaks and calzones are average. Just go for the pizza. read more

This place is not the Spano's in Point Pleasant Beach but Point Pleasant and has no relation to Joe Spano's in Point Pleasant Beach. He merely sold the business to these owners. I give the 5 stars for the value. I occasionally order the family deal which is a REAL DEAL when I am too busy to cook. For $39.99, you get a half tray of salad (caesar or house), a half tray of pasta, a half tray of either chkn parm, francese, eggplant parm, or penne vodka, and a garlic bread with or w/o cheese. It feeds a family of 6-8 people. It's a great deal and nowadays it's hard to find deals like this. The food is delicious especially the chicken parm. I am not really a fan of chicken parm, but I have to admit, theirs is pretty darn good, the francese is a little on the bland side.
