I really really like this place. I have a coworker that insisted that it was really good so I trusted him and went with a few coworkers for lunch one day. I have now been multiple times and I get the chicken Shawarma pita exactly how it comes because they put lettuce, tomato onion, tzatziki sauce, and feta cheese and they don't charge you for every single crumble or topping. I also get the french fries that are really well seasoned. I love french fries so I haven't tried the pita fries because I'm a potato girl. They have a really good hummus. That's a nice addition if you want to dip your fries, but I imagine it would be really good in with the pita fries. The owner is there when we go for lunch and he's really nice. They seem to have taken all the recipes from a previous business owner and everything is spot on that. I have tried. My daughter and I really enjoy trying all the Gyros around town. We enjoy them at this spot. We'd probably come more often, but it's not close to our home and parking can be a bit tricky at this location. They've changed owners, but I feel like they did it well. Cute and welcoming spot near FSU. I was not expecting it to be so beautifully decorated inside. Brought me back to Greece! I tasted their food at Cleaver and Cork and had to stop by for a meal. Their fries reminded me of the Greek fries that are at the Greek food festival here in town. The chicken shawarma and rice dish looked very unassuming, BUT the taste is spot on and definitely homemade. I also had the hummus which was as delicious as I remember from the food festival. I'm so happy that this place is back, even with new owners. They were nice and explained how the owners who retired taught them how to prepare their dishes. I ordered the big Athens gyro and it was just like the original! Lots of topping and the wonderful seasoning sprinkled on top. The small Greek salad was well dressed. I would have liked the salad dressing to have more oil to break up the vinegar. I also ordered the veggie dolmades. They were okay. The ambiance is nice. They totally renovated the place, so it's brighter and more welcoming. I look forward to going back for another gyro! read more

Been here 4-5 times before making this review to asses consistency and have been pleasantly impressed :)! Great options for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Good meal deal, unique sides, honest people, decent prices, cute restaurant. Coke Zero on tap deserves a star on its own. Baklava could be pistachio but the economy has been trumped so I get it. I've eaten lunch here twice, and both times another customer came in excitedly talking about how they've been eating here for over 20 years. It's a quiet family business tucked in the parking lot of McDonald's across from FSU. They make a nice gyro pita sandwich that has the expected ingredients and their own distinct seasoning. The fountain drink machine wasn't working but they offered their own lemonade and tea. I got a Diet Coke in a can instead and in hindsight it feels like a mistake to have not gotten the lemonade. So, this spot was a little strange. It was so dark and deserted when we walked in, I wasn't sure it was actually open. Two other people were finishing a meal (the only other patrons) so we made our way to the counter to see if they were making food. The woman who helped us may have been the owner. Either way, it must be a quiet time of year since school is out because she was basically chilling and watching TV. Once she was engaged however, she was very friendly and helpful and prepped our food quickly. We got a couple of the Big Athens Gyros and an order of the baba ghanoush. The baba ghanoush was served with slightly seasoned (cinnamon dusted?) toasted pitas which were quite tasty and a perfect compliment to the appetizer. The gyros were also very good. The warm pita wrap was excellent and the gyro meat itself was thinly sliced and had a pleasant balance of crisp bits and meaty ones. read more

My first visit to Little Athens since the change in ownership. Previously, I had lunch there occasionally when I was near the FSU campus and always enjoyed it. With expanded hours, beer and wine, similar excellent food, and a lovely redecorated interior, Little Athens is now worth a trip even if not near campus. The owners greeted my teenaged son and me and were friendly and helpful. My son had a chicken shawarma wrap combo, with Greek fries and iced tea. Ate every bite. I am a vegetarian but tried the fries, and they were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The sweet tea was good and not overly sweet. I had the hummus and baba ghanoush wrap, which was delicious, with tzatziki sauce and feta cheese. The portions of everything were generous, and I had to get a box for half of my wrap. My son ended his meal with baklava, which again he devoured. We will be back soon! read more

I'm so glad I found this place!!!! If you remember the old owners of Capt Pete's about 15-20 years ago - you will recognize the owners of this place. The husband and wife team - she actually remembered me. Needles to say, I did eat at their old place quite a bit....lol It is still the same awesome food at reasonable prices. I ate lunch her with my friend and for about $15 you can get a gyro with a side and drink. I opted for the basmati rice (that comes with the potato gravy/sauce) which I fell in love with all those years ago. The gyro's (lots of meat) are substantial and will fill you up - if you decide just to get it without any sides. They are made fresh after you order, but it doesn't take long. They offer a couple of homemade drinks - one being honey cinnamon tea which is good if you like a flavored tea and/or you like cinnamon. The other looked like a lemonade, but I really didn't take a good look at it. Don't forget to save room for the baklava!! They offer individual pieces, but also offer a small sampler for $5. Which I highly recommend!! You get a bite of everything and it is a perfect way to end your meal. I would have posted a picture, but we couldn't wait to dig into our food, so maybe next time. Who has the best gyro? Little Athens or Pitaria? You ask. The verdict is out. Little Athens Gyro has the best freaking GYRO!! Came here with a small group by accident. They wanted to go to Pitaria but the line was deep. So I as a seasoned Yelper suggested Little Athens even tho I had never been. Based on the yelp reviews, it looked promising. So we came here instead. The place was small but there wasn't a wait. I ordered the Big Athens Gyro and the group with me all trusted my judgement so they ordered the same. When I took the first bite, I knew we made the right choice to come here. The lamb was so tender and flavorful. The sauce and all the fixings were just amazing. Not to mention the soft and delicious pita. My table couldn't stop "hmmm"ing and saying "OMG this is really good!" This place is deff a mom & pop no frills Mediterranean joint. In fact I saw a 1989 article in Florida Flambeau featuring the owners who are two hardworking immigrants. Would I come back? Hell yeah! This is now my go-to gyro spot. Get your GYRO on! read more

I've been to Pitaria a few times, since basically everybody I know who lives or lived in Tallahassee recommended it to me. Not that Pitaria is bad, because it's not, but it's just not as good as Little Athens. Little Athens is a pretty small spot next to a McDonald's which makes it a little difficult to find while driving, but thankfully I made it here! I came in at night and the place was pretty empty. I ordered a salad with gyro meat. The guy working was super friendly and seemed like he really cares about his customers. He was the only one working there but it didn't change the quality of service whatsoever. He still had a smile on his face despite the fact that there were quite a few people who came in after me and he was food prepping solo. My salad was really fresh. I ordered it with gyro meat, which was pretty thinly sliced. I usually like my gyro meat a little bit thicker, but this stuff was still good. Something I really liked about this salad was the seasoning put on it. Really delicious and added a little flavor to the salad. The tzatziki sauce was awesome. It had a hint of garlic which was delicious. Prices are fair, about $10 for a salad with gyro meat. With the combination of good food and friendly service I'll definitely be back. read more

COVID 19 Precautions: There was a acrylic or transparent plastic divider in front of the cashier, as well as a table to separate customers from the cashier areas. The Menus were laminated and there were different pile but did not clarify which or if they were sanitized. I did not witness any cleaning or separation procedures as we ordered to take out and the restaurant was empty at the time. Service: It seemed to be family run and the man who took our order was very kind and patient, as well as completed the order within 15 minutes pretty quickly as we ordered over 5 menu items. That was 20 years ago and I still recall how my food life had been changed. Couldn't believe I hadn't been introduced to one sooner but Chicago set the bar HIGH. I've had so many gyros since then and not ONE came close to that perfection I had in Chicago until I came to Tallahassee and ate here.
