Owned by the Montgomery County Parks, the manor house is separated into various rooms, which we loved, but can prove to be a bit complicated when having to move people around in the house. This is a "do it yourself" type of venue, which can save you a ton of money because you can bring in whatever you want, but means that either you or a wedding coordinator need to organize outside vendors with the staff at Rockwood. There is no onsite wedding catering available, but several caterers available in the area. We recommend Stone Soup catering! Their food is delicious and they know the venue well! One huge bonus to Rockwood is that all of the tables, chairs, ceremony chairs, etc. are included in the price! That will save you a bunch because all you will need is linens. For a bit of a description, there are three rooms on the top level (we had a bar, appetizers, Photo Booth), a side brick floor veranda (where we had dancing), and a large banquet hall with a catering kitchen and large refrigerators for storage. We brought our own nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages, which saved us thousands of dollars. There are several gorgeous outdoor areas where you can hold a ceremony, including a stone patio in the back or a gazebo on the side of the manor. Above all, it is EXTREMELY affordable for the region. We paid less than $7000 in total for Thursday-Sunday with accommodations for up to 37 people in B&B style rooms, and 85 people in bunk bed cabins. If you wanted to charge a small fee for the accommodations, you would make back some money and save your guests money! The 13 B&B style rooms each have their own bathroom/shower. The three cabins are actually pretty nice if you can get over sleeping in a bunk. They are air-conditioned or heated depending on the season, and the bathroom facilities are clean and relatively modern. The whole package is an exceptional deal in this region. The only thing that can be a bit frustrating is that the staff at Rockwood are not always reachable by phone and do not communicate information among themselves very well. The staff is extremely friendly, but there were several occasions where I would email or call someone to confirm something and the next time I called or emailed, another colleague would have no record of what I had confirmed and I'd have to start over. On a few occasions, I would have to do this 3 or 4 times. If Rockwood had a dedicated wedding coordinator it would be so much more efficient. That said, we wouldn't have changed the venue for anything. We really loved the charming rustic, vintage feel of the manor.

From…read morestart to finish, Iman and his team did absolutely everything they could do to make the wedding planning process seamless and our wedding day exactly how we imagined. We were planning our wedding during the pandemic and things were constantly uncertain as to whether or not the wedding would be able go to on. Iman and DJ Kia had routine calls with us to check-in and offer advice. We knew we could trust their opinions and flexility during the uncertain times. On the day of the wedding, DJ Kia was so involved with every aspect of the ceremony and reception. He knew exactly what to do, when to do it, and how to make our wedding day an unforgettable experience. He literally orchestrated our ceremony processional and was making sure everything was running smoothly. Everyone felt at ease walking down the aisle because DJ Kia was there to send them off. We were lucky enough to have Iman MC our wedding, and believe us when we tell you he knows how to put on a show. The dance floor comes alive with Iman on stage and everyone was out of their seats and dancing the entire night. Our cocktail hour ended up going over schedule, which pushed back our reception. It was no worry though, because Iman was there to quickly restructure the timeline and ensure everything ran smoothly. Even with unexpected issues, we felt completely at ease knowing he had us covered. He is such a genuine person who truly cares about his client's happiness. We also used Night Owls for our video production and working with them was a truly pleasant experience. They captured every aspect of the wedding beautifully. In just a few short weeks, we had our trailer and wedding video created, both of which were edited to our liking. They were extremely patient with us throughout the process and the end result is videos we still can't stop watching! Thank you to Brandon and the team at Night Owls for all of their hard work. We also want to give a special thanks to Wake on the sax, Farzan on the drums, and Cyrus on the cello. These three gentleman made the music come alive and our guests could not stop raving about how talented they were. My wife and I still talk about just how great it was working with Exclusively Entertainment and we would absolutely recommend them for your events!

We reserved a private space with a private tasting, which made the day feel extra special and perfect for a large group. For many of our guests, it was their first time visiting this location, and everyone had such a great time. One of the co-founders, Greg, personally led our tasting and was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, welcoming, and checked on us throughout the afternoon to make sure everything was going smoothly. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. I also appreciated that some friends who don't drink were still able to enjoy themselves thanks to the non-alcoholic options. The property itself is beautiful with scenic views, plenty of space to relax, and such a peaceful atmosphere. We had amazing weather the day we visited, which made it even more memorable. If you are looking for a great place for a birthday, celebration, group outing, or just a relaxing day with friends, I highly recommend! We will definitely be back.

There was PLENTY of seating still - lots of large and small tables scattered throughout the property. They also have seating inside the winery at a small bar. The wine itself was really nice; we had several bottles of the rose at the table. It was light, crisp, and easy to sip in the nice weather. I was impressed that they also had 2 non alcoholic wines; the non drinkers in our group were happy to have some options made just for them (which were delicious also). There is a third party pizza business that had food offerings; we had many different types of their pizza which were all good. Very smart to have a food option for folks to enjoy while we sip our wine. Overall, the property is wonderfully maintained and the wines meet all expectations. I'd recommend giving this spot a try if you're looking for a nice winery north of the beltway!

The first couple dozen times I came here, I was delighted and that's why they are getting 5-stars. Some great things about the Bolger Center: - The staff! Everyone is INCREDIBLY friendly and accomodating! - The food: it's good, and plentiful...I might even say *too* plentiful - The rooms: they used to be itty-bitty and cramped (and many still are) but they have done a ton of renovations to make things better - Fun theme nights: Wednesday is crab-leg night, Wednesday is also karaoke night at the Pony Express (the bar), Tuesday at the Pony is trivia night, etc. - The costs are very reasonable and competitive Some things that annoy me: - You can't get your own food at the buffet anymore. And sometimes the staff don't have the best English. Usually this is something I do not care about at all, but sometimes there is a language barrier when you're trying to communicate what you want on your salad. - If you are renting this facility to give a training...BEWARE: you will be aggressively nickel-and-dimed if you require any additional help/supplies that are not explicitly in your contract! What I really don't like: - You feel stuck here. Downtown DC is a long ways away and expensive to get here, so you start to feel trapped the more you come here. I wish they had a shuttle into DC proper or something.

It's gorgeous and huge with large umbrellas at each table to keep out the direct sun. Hasina (manager) actually waited on us and she was wonderful as well. My Mom had the Lobster Roll that came with house made potato chips and I tasted both and they were both wonderful. For dessert we split the chocolate mousse cake and it was the best we have ever had and came with a toffee crunch crust on one side. The ambiance was perfect, all the waitstaff (and there are plenty) were super attentive and so pleasant. The food was spectacular. We were looking for a quiet setting without too much disruption and nice ambience plus good food. Unfortunately this place missed on all attempts I really love the outdoor seating arrangements with the fire pits lights and parking space I think this is a great place to grab a drink and chit chat in the summer but aside from this I wouldn't be in a hurry to come back I ended up coming for dinner and it's very small on the inside with no more than 10 tables. We sat at a small table near the bar because that is one of the seats they had available. Their menu is not very expansive Here's what we ended up getting in an attempt to try a few different things The mushroom risotto was tasty The ribeye steak was horrible. I asked for it to be cooked medium and it was pretty bloody and rare. My friend doesn't mind it and I don't send back food so I couldn't eat it at all but honestly seeing something that bloody grossed me out totally. They also brought the ribeye which was full of fat and not a good cut of meat for the price they're asking for in both of our opinions with two starch dishes one which mashed potato and the other one was sweet potato and other root vegetables cut up. There was no option to ask for a different side. Dessert was lemon ricotta cake which honestly was kind of a bummer because it was sugary frosting that I could get at a Costco bakery The inside setting has a fireplace which is nice. One of the things that was a little bit different about our evening is the local patron who was there was a bit loaded and kept at our table we were trying to be polite about it but her husband didn't call her back and neither did the wait staff the wait staff did their best to get us distracted enough to move but the seat that they put us in was closer to the door and rather cold. I also got the impression that they were hoping to close up shop because the end dinner service at 9:00 p.m. and I had a seats in at around 7:45. I think the price is rather high given the quality of the food and not worthwhile. The only thing that I really did like about this place was the outdoor ambience so I might be inclined to come here with a group in the summer to sit by the fire pit chill out and hang and drink. Aside from that I'm not really loving the vibe of this place Plenty of parking in a private lot which is free. It's in a foresty part of Potomac if you like that kind of thing this will be a nice getaway not too far from the city.

It offers buffet style breakfast, lunch, and dinner on a voucher type system (well, I'm sure you could probably pay cash as well). The pros: a variety of options that didn't seem to repeat much over my three day stay. They had the safe options, like eggs, sandwiches, and salads and tried more adventurous choices as part of a theme each night for dinner (for example, crab leg night). Dessert options were great and service was friendly. The cons: sometimes the problem with variety is you don't really do anything right. Outside dessert, I rarely finished what I sampled and I'm not the type that could survive on salad for lunch. While the service was friendly, they couldn't seem to handle the rush of people at peak times, meaning tabling weren't cleared and available for new guests. Luckily, I'm not shy and was able to joined a table of complete strangers - still that felt odd during dinner. I appreciate the entire teams effort on this one, but the Pony Express has some decent food, why isn't that the standard package?

But the food might actually be the best part, and that's thanks to Angela, who is the best. The hot dogs? Best in town. The chicken and tuna salads? Angela makes them fresh every morning, from scratch, with love you can actually taste. The onion rings? Genuinely perfect. And a full meal runs you under ten bucks, which in Potomac feels like a clerical error in my favor. Here's the real scandal: this little snack bar is putting out better food than Congressional Country Club a few miles up the road. You'd think paying those dues for bar food this far below par would have the members storming out in protest -- but somehow not one of them has come out "disgruntled." Frankly, the lack of outrage is the most bipartisan thing to happen in this county all year. Honestly, just a sincere thank you to Angela, who puts her foot in it every single time without fail -- she's a gift, and so is the rest of the awesome staff.
