There wasn't any table service, so I needed to return to the bar for another draft. All was chill - thank you! However, there appeared to be available spots along the main drag of 32nd St. and all of the surrounding residential streets (read any posted signs) - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A simple layout where the front area had the main bar, a couple of tall communal tables with stools, bar seating along the walls, and there appeared to be a back area/room which I didn't venture to investigate. If you don't mind a ton of children running around, dogs all over the place, customers butting into your convo, and it being hot inside then this place is alright. I think with all those things happening all at once plus a bartender who didn't seem too thrilled to serve us, was just a bit overwhelming. There's the front room which has the bartender. There's two long high tops which can host 4-5 people at each table and then up a small flight of stairs there are some tables and chairs and then in the way back there are a mixture of booths, tables, several TVs and where they make their beer. We sat in front close to the bartender. We had a few half pints but when we came with questions, he didn't really seem interested in answering them. They offer tastes of the beer but no flights. There's about 13 on tap. One or two of each type you can imagine - IPA, hazy, dark, seltzers etc. The prices aren't bad. Five dollars for half a pint and 8 for a full pint I believe. Don't sleep on the Sunday special here! For $15 you can get 1 beer on tap or seltzer AND a warm plate of food. The food is always a surprise, I've had incredible salt & pepper wings one weekend. Sometimes it's breakfast burritos, today it was a phenomenal chili. Such an incredible deal for a local beer and a bomb meal. The staff is incredible here, they're always so friendly and welcoming. I do not drink beer but they usually have a nice seltzer on tap or non-alcoholic drink options that'll do the trick. I was confused because they changed the name, FKA Thorn St. Brewing. Of course the beer is good. Lots of styles on tap. The night we were there, there was a pop-up pizza place out front. It was good but nothing special. Next time, I'd plan to eat at the great BBQ next door. The staff was nice and they have plenty of room. There's a back room. We went for a comedy show. This is night spot to hang out and become a regular. They do have a patio where there's rooms for big groups. They do have TV's which is a plus. The variety of beer they offer can fit everyone's liking. On certain days they have the bonehead burger truck there. Let me tell you!! A burger and cold beer is good any day. This place is a daycare at 5:00pm. Tons of parents who have no shame about the volume or behavior of their kids casually drinking while their kids terrorize the place. Beer was pretty good though, but man if you want a place without people who can't handle leaving their dog at home or parents who have no control of their kids, maybe check somewhere else out. Celebrated a baby shower for family here and it ended up exceeding my expectations! Parking is street only, so make sure to pay attention to all the signs. The whole upstairs was closed off for the baby shower and there was ample room for all the guests. Barrel style tables and high chairs fill the upper room and there was a TV that we displayed the games on. The taps are downstairs with a great selection. Knocked out another San Diego brewery, this time it is Thorn Brewing Company! This brewery has several locations in the San Diego area but this location is what we focused on. For this brewery Steve and I tried one of their beers and we enjoyed it fairly well. The beer that we had was the Endless Cycle IPA from a beer series of theirs called the Essential IPA Series. This particular IPA was enjoyable and refreshing to be sure. Similar to other IPA'S we have had of many breweries past but nothing to complain about in the slightest. Flavor highlights to expect with this is hoppiness and bitterness as well as a resinous presence to provide a more organic spin to this particular beer experience that we had with this particular beer. read more

What a great little brewery...that's not so little! LOL! I have driven by many times and just thought they had that small storefront. I've even gotten noodles from the truck in front, and still thought it was small. But then colleagues invited me out and I couldn't believe how big the back is! They are also dog friendly which I'll have to bring Cako to. I'm not a big beer drinker but they had some hard seltzers which worked since I'd had vodka earlier. The staff is great! Stopped in this weekend for their Girl Scout cookie pairing. The Girl Scout cookies were so perfectly paired with their beers. They really complimented each other and it was a fun little weekend activity! I'm a big fan of Thorn St Brewery. I've more frequently visited the Mission Hills location but love this little OG one too. There's space inside for about 8ish groups with tables and some bar seats. On a usually nice San Diego day, they also have a large area to sit outside. Grand Ole next door is also bomb so it's great to park beer with some bbq. If not, they also often have food trucks. We were seeking a brewery for our wedding welcome event and we're basically looking for a low stress easy event where we got to hang out with our friends and family. Most of the places we researched had high minimums and/or had stringent catering requirements. Joseph offered transparent and reasonable pricing, allowing us to use a ticketing option for drinks. He offered the space upstairs which was ample, and included the ability to offer wine. He hooked us up with the taco stand out front (Josue Cooks); they were also incredibly easy to work with and we got great compliments on the food. All our guests had a fantastic time. I recently visited this brewery for trivia night, and it was a fantastic experience. The diverse beer selection was impressive, and I particularly enjoyed the Fornication, a delightful Belgian strong golden ale. The bartenders were friendly, providing clear instructions for trivia and guiding us on ordering from the food truck outside. Overall, a great spot for a fun night playing trivia. We had a gift card for Thorn so we ventured out to this neighborhood brewery. It was a Friday night and it was packed with some folks that were celebrating pretty hardy. It is loud and full of happy folks with their dogs. There aren't alot of tables, but we snagged one and also brought the dog. It is truly a neighborhood pub. The beer was great. There are many IPA's to choose from. We brought home a growler too and also bought a shirt. Servers were nice considering how busy they were. They made a point of taking care of us. Twisted ankle and scrapped my knee. If you close your taps at 8:30 don't say you are open till 9. And don't open your tap for someone else if you won't serve everyone at 8:54. But, if you go to a place and the person serving you can't even manage a simple hello or thank you, and hands you your drink with a face like a slapped arse, you're not going to feel good about being there. And that's exactly what happened to us. We ordered a beer and were met with such a poor reception that my beer-loving husband wanted to leave for another bar before we'd even finished. Look, if you don't like working with people, then find another job! Working with people means smiling and being friendly to whoever you have to serve, it's that simple! I really like this laid back neighborhood brewery. It provides that home style feel with that terrific backyard patio, and to top it off, they make some great craft beers. Oh yes, and they let you bring in food, like the full slab of smoked pork ribs I gobbled down from a place nearby with one of their fine beers. The beer I tried was the Hipster Wit, which was very light, crispy, and refreshing to drink. I have to admit, it went very well with the heavy flavored and smoked ribs I was eating. The beer, a Belgian strain, had a good citrus flavor and crisp finish. I thought I detected a slight peppery flavor. The color was unique, in that it was light but and kinda foggy. It sort of looked like grapefruit juice. In the end, I liked it very much and I am not even a Hipster! The bar keeps were a very nice bunch. The young lady who tapped by beer had a great sense of humor and made sure to fill my beer to the rim. I don't mind gently slurping my beer off the rim before taking it off the bar! I didn't want to like Thorn Street Brewery. Why? Because the neighborhood is already over crowded with drunks who are stupid enough to drive drunk at night instead of taking a taxi or the bus along with Suburu driving soccer moms who think that stop signs are merely "suggestions" as they race out of the parking lot of St. Augustine. Anyhow, this place was a cool little homebrewing supply place for a while and they also sold seeds for those who wanted to grow their own gardens. I was bummed when they went out of business because I liked what they were doing. When my favorite people over at Santos Coffee Shop told me that it was turning into yet another brewery in North Park I was somewhat dismayed. Another bar/brewery? really? Well, I am happy to report that Thorn Street turned my frown upside down on Friday night. I grabbed Christina and Dawn from Santos along with my husband and went in there for a taste or four. 0_o! It's really nice inside, I loved the back tasting room where I could have watched the Lakers lose again while playing shuffle board but alas, we sat in the front at the window. I have to be honest, I don't drink beer that much anymore because most of the beers here in SD are too hoppy for me. I was impressed with Thorn Street's beer selection! For around 7.00 ish you can get four tastings. My favorite surprisingly enough was the IPA, wow is that one tasty! I also liked the coffee stout which was brewed with coffee from Santos! yay! I guess on Friday's, Super Q food truck is there with their tasty offerings. Let's just say, I will be back because I love that IPA. I hear that because of their liquor license that they can only offer tastings at this time, eventually they will be able to sell pints. If you decide to try this place, you won't be disappointed.
