We went right after work on a Thursday, got to enjoy some happy hour specials, and found seating no problem. It did get more crowded later in the evening when we left, but it was not over packed. This place is the neighborhood gem that I thought DC would be riddled with, but it is actually very rare to come across a restaurant this phenomenal, whose service, attention to detail, and food separates itself from the pack. We were hungry for Italian, so we came across Little Cocos right here on Yelp and was sold on the reviews. The great reviews aren't just hype! The Bigoli is an exquisite dish, flavorful, layered, and textured just right with a stewed beef and pork "gravy" and a homemade noodle to die for. The pizza is made with love and attention, and the spicy rigatoni was Italian freshness with a kick. The cocktail list is crafted and tailored to begin or end any of their dining adventures, and a small but powerful dessert offering reminds you that most other restaurants usually just tail off at the end of meals, while this one ends extremely strong. It is hard to give this place such a great review and endorsement because I want them all to myself, but this cat has to get out of the bag! read more

If someone describes you by using the words "clever riffs", "nibbles", "trendy" and "lair" all in the same sentence, you are bringing something fresher than Roma tomatoes to the table. We kicked the meal off with some drinks. My wife doubled.....tripled-down on the Coco's Draft Gimlet, which was perfectly balanced and not overwhelmed by lime, as usually is the case. It was a hot day so I was feeling the Aperol Spritz, which was exactly what I needed it to be: crisp and cold. The food was paced perfectly, and was swiftly and joyfully consumed in this order: Arancini - this was a big ol' ball of fried cheesy risotto ridiculousness. It is only one arancini, but it came to play. Set in a generous helping of marinara, it wasn't soggy even in the parts that were sauced up. Enough to whet (correct spelling) the appetite and leave room for the rest! Burrata with Heirloom tomatoes - THICK cut heirloom tomatoes with three big balls of Burrata, this definitely won the award for most bang for your buck. The Burrata was creamy and perfectly prepared, sitting on a bed of tomatoes, olive oil, and balsamic. Make sure you order the perfect eating utensil: toasted bread! Zucchini Cakes - or Italian Latkes, as our server called them. The saltiness of the cakes were perfectly offset by the sweetness of the tomato jam it was served on. Margherita di Coco - Any margherita pizza worth its salt has a salty crust that begs to be dipped in olive oil and marinara. Our server was awesome and suggested not taking our burrata plate away so we could sop up the balsamic and olive oil. You're a good man, Charlie Drown-your-crust-in-your-last-dish's-leftovers. Overall, it was a great visit with great service and delicious food. We skipped the Uber and just rolled our stuffed selves right down 14th street. I really liked this place for brunch. It is a little out of the way all the way up 14th past the Red Derby but it is worth the hike. $20.95 for most entrees plus bottomless mimosas. First off, they actually offer three drink options: traditional mimosa, pomegranate mimosa, and PBR. And, you can alternate if you are so inclined! The menu had the typical brunch classics like omelettes as well as Italian classics like pizzas, but they were done really well. The price can't be beat, and their little outdoor sidewalk patio was fantastic in 60 degree weather. I will definitely be back. Note: when I went, there was a table full of super loud and annoying 20-something basic bitches being basic AF. Not sure if this place attracts that type of crowd, or if it was just a coincidence. The waiter ended up comping them 6 of their housemade donuts, but being the basic bitches that they are, they declined and wanted shots of tequila instead. It's a small but very cute place. Food was really good. We had the calamari and garlic bread as an appetizer. Calamari was excellent but garlic bread wasn't my favorite. For our entrees, we had the cacio de Pepe and the tagliatelle pasta. Both were delicious. Kid friendly environment. They provide high chairs and have coloring for the kids. The service was also excellent. Someone was always coming by to make sure our table was clean (especially with a toddler) and our server was attentive. Will definitely return. read more

Met up with some friends for dinner in DC. Cute little place. The whole group was craving Italian. We ordered our food. I ordered a pasta and my girlfriend ordered a pizza. She inquired about 2 different pizzas and which one the waiter thought was better. She made her choice of one of the pizzas and the waiter left. The atmosphere was nice and we enjoyed spending the time with friends. The wait staff later arrived with the food. A pasta for me and TWO pizzas for my girlfriend. When she asked why he brought out a second pizza that she did not order, he said because you ordered two entrées. Who orders two entrées?! We all laughed at how silly this was. She was mildly embarrassed since everyone was looking at her and then she said she only needed the one she ordered - thanks. The waiter responded that he couldn't take back the cooked pizza. So he left it. The bill came later... for 2 pizzas and a pasta! I couldn't believe this waiter guy actually charged us for his dumb mistake! Inflation is bad for everyone. Everything is overpriced everywhere so have a heart. The food was fine, I guess. I was so embarrassed at this rude, unethical act that I just paid the stupid bill and will never go back or recommend anyone go there. We still tipped generously on top of an extra pizza price that I would have never thought a waiter would have had low enough morals to not only avoid accepting his mistake but then to also take it out on the customer and charge them for it. It has left us with nothing good to say about this place for obvious reasons. We won't be going back. This is a great homey Italian restaurant, with a fantastic happy hour (all you eat apps for ~$23). They have a variety of classic Italian dishes, including really good pasta dishes and pizzas (in big portion sizes too). They complement everything with excellent drinks, warm ambience, and great service. Went to little cocos for their aperitivo hour. $23 for unlimited cocktails and nibbles (uhhh best happy hour in dc much??) We got there early anticipating a long wait for a group of six on a Thursday night, but were seated right away. Our server was super attentive and was back frequently for us to order more plates and drinks. The cocktails were surprisingly delicious- sometimes with these deals the drinks are just plain bad, but not here! The nibbles are very literally nibbles - two zeppoles to a plate, one meatball per plate, etc. But since our server was great we got to try plenty of bites and left full. Check it out in advance and plan accordingly -the pizza is top notch. great crust and fresh ingredients -the pasta is also good. I am torn between pizza and pasta every time. My experience at dinner last night was not great, but I'm hoping it was a fluke so I'm willing to come back and update my review later. Service was sloooooooooooooooooooooow. We sat down at 7:40 and didn't get our check until 10 pm!! And it was not a luxurious slowness...no no, it felt like our waiter and the kitchen completely forgot about us. The pace seemed to be super slow for all the tables around us, so perhaps this is a systemic problem? Either way, the waiter refused to look at us as she passed our table and left our water glasses empty for half hours at a time (remember we were stuck there for two hours so all we had to consume was water at many points in our meal). On to the food. Obviously the food is delicious but a warning to anyone who is lactose intolerant: the menu here is challenging. If you are vegetarian, be prepared to eat a LOT of dairy. The food was quite delicious. I'd recommend splitting the meatball appetizer--it comes with four huge meatballs. I also had the caccio e pepe pasta which is just pure carbohydrate deliciousness. The wine menu is small but mighty, and the cocktails are also really simple but high quality. The desserts left something to be desired, especially the vanilla spiced ice cream. Overall I see potential in this place and will try it again, but if I get the waiter with blue hair, I will not stay to be ignored by her. read more

OMG, love this place. It's super adorable, with all the lights and decorations hanging from the ceiling and especially outside. I started with the Black Old Fashioned, which was perfect--not too sweet at all. For food, we got the bolognese arancini and blue cheese-butternut squash bruschetta to start. The arancini was good, but man the bruschetta NAILED it. So much perfectly-matched deliciousness on top of that crusty bread--I almost ordered another! For the entrée, I got the mushroom agnalotti, which was to die for. The little pasta pockets were so stuffed with sweet cheese, it was just amazing. Before I said "ciao, bella" to D.C. I stopped by Little Coco's for a last meal that was delizioso! My friend who lives in the Petworth area frequents this cute Italian restaurant and in particular enjoys their brunch. I wondered what brunch would look like from an Italian restaurant and I was both amazed and delighted to find that Italian and breakfast go together perfectly. We were seated inside at a booth and I noticed the ambiance was casual and comfortable. The server was friendly and attentive. As we perused the brunch menu my friends and I contemplated whether or not we should order the bread basket. The server came by and we inquired as to the contents of this basket and when she said that they had special peach preserves and peach filling on the donuts we were sold. This bread basket had puffy round donuts filled with the glorious peach and cream filling. There were biscuits and muffins and sweet breads as part of this basket. Do yourself a favor and come with other people so that you can justify ordering this basket and sampling everything in it. This was my favorite part of the meal because everything was so good. Two of us ordered the baked Italian eggs and the other person got the breakfast pizza complete with sunny side up eggs and bacon on top of it. The baked eggs were basically bolognese sauce with two eggs and grilled bread. This dish was absolutely a great excuse to have the sauce without all the carbs and instead add in the protein for a breakfasty twist. We all enjoyed what we ordered. Needless to say, I came back alone and had the same incredible dish but started with their fried green tomatoes - sweet, spicy, and flavorful. The cacio e pepe, on the other hand, is simple but absolutely delightful. After all, it is their house dish, and it does not fail to impress. Rather than get a table, I ate at the bar, which also has killer service. I knew from my last experience that they make exceptional drinks, so I gave their draft basil gimlet a try. Cute little pizza place in Columbia Heights. Great atmosphere. Our server was very friendly, energetic, and communicative. He always made sure our waters were topped off and that we had everything we needed. They have a cute little patio that is perfect for romantic evenings. However, on my visit, the Mexican bar two shops down had their music way too loud, so it kind of ruined the mood. Onto the pizza, we ordered the Pig Destroyer, which was not my favorite, BUT I think it was mostly that I didn't like so much pork and that is my fault. I liked it in theory but not reality. The dough was some of the best dough I've had. It was the perfect consistency and had just the right amount of chewy freshness. So good. For appetizers, we got the gorgonzola and the house porchetta. Both were served with toasted bread. The gorgonzola was my favorite of the two appetizers. The porchetta just wasn't for me, but again, I think it was just my mistake for ordering so much pork. I ordered the draft gimlet with basil, and I highly recommend it. I can't speak for all gimlets in the world, since that was the first time I've ever had it, but it was very good. We came for the Thursday pasta + bottomless Prosecco. The Prosecco refills were reallyyyyyy slow at first (though the table behind us seemed to be getting their refills much more frequently). Towards the end our refills were much more in point. I ordered the ricotta cavatelli and it was sooooo oily. Also the arugula salad was very plain and hardly dressed. Little Coco's is a charming little spot in the Petworth/14th Street Heights area. Went on a Friday night around 6:30 and was seated immediately (2 people) at a cute table near the bar - a wonderful spot for watching all the delicious looking food being carried past you to other tables! The restaurant has a romantic yet chill vibe - the lights are dim, there's string lights hanging from the ceiling, and there are candles on the tables, yet the building itself is full of exposed beams and rustic urban hipster decor. For drinks, I had the Dark n' Stormari, which was a really interesting take on a traditional Dark and Stormy. I really liked it. My boyfriend had the Martinez; I had a sip and while I normally don't like drinks that boozy, I actually thought it was pretty good! The cocktail menu beyond these drinks seemed really interesting, too. For an appetizer we ordered the artichoke bruschetta. AMAZING. The bread was just perfect the lemon ricotta added such a nice flavor to the saltiness of the artichokes. For dinner, we split a Mediterranean pizza and an order of cacio e pepe pasta. I was really excited about the cacio e pepe, because I make it quite frequently for myself at home but rarely see it on menus when I go out. I thought the dish was solid and really lived up to the simple perfection that is cacio e pepe, but I thought that the sauce could have been a little more saucy. Maybe that's just my preference because of how I make it for myself, but I do think the cheese could have been integrated a bit more into a thicker sauce. I really liked the Mediterranean pizza, although to be honest it was a strange and unexpected flavor profile. The saltiness of the anchovies was very apparent, but the smoked mozzarella added another unexpected flavor twist that gave the pizza a lot of depth. The desserts sounded good but we were far too stuffed from our entrees to order any! Little Coco's is a nice spot for a weekend dinner, and prices are reasonable for what you get. We've been meaning to try Little Coco's brunch for a while. With a bottomless brunch deal of $23.99 for an entree and bottomless mimosas (OJ or pomegranate) or PBR. Just FYI-Most of the entrees have add-on prices. The service was very friendly and our many brunch drinks flowed often and timely. We ordered the Chicken Milanese Sandwich and the Italian Sandwich. The Milanese was very good, The chicken was fried well and the bread tasted fresh. The Italian was good but I wish there was more of the cured meats inside. The arugula side salad was solid. Our friends got the Vegetable Omelette and the Bacon and Egg pie. I had a bite of the pizza which had tasty white sauce and the crispy potatoes on the side of the omelette was some of the best breakfast potatoes I've had. So overall, the food is good. The one flaw of the brunch is that the mimosas were super juice-heavy. Hence I stuck with the PBRs. Otherwise, Little Coco's brunch deal is hard to beat. read more

My favorite meal of our trip to DC. My fellow diners were skeptical of the Get Shrimpy pizza, but it ended up being a table favorite. The nduja sausage gave it a saltiness, the green goddess dressing provided the (mild) spice, and the carmelized onions brought a sweetness to the dish. For pasta, I thought I was going to enjoy the goat cheese ravioli the most, but I ended up being surprised by the saffron tagliatelle with lamb ragu. The sauce was wonderfully addictive. For drinks, we had the basil gimlet and aperol spritz. The gimlet tasted like straight limeade to me, but I was feeling the buzz after one glass. The aperol spritz was good if you like a drier version. Honestly, this was my favorite Italian meal I've ever had at a restaurant, but that might be my inexperience speaking. This place has amazing food. The fritters and Cacio e Pepe are worth the trip alone. Frankly, everything anyone ordered was phenomenal and our party of four raved about it all. The fresh pasta and uniquely flavorful sauces make this my favorite pasta in dc. Unfortunately, the server was unnecessarily unfriendly and bad. He did not bring out the salad until we had finished our pasta. There were no apologies or acknowledgement that this wasn't right. In fact, he made us act like impatient idiots when we asked about it when we were halfway through our entrees. For dessert we ordered two cannoli and two gelatos. The two people who ordered gelato got it right away. The cannolis took about 10 minutes more and weren't served until long after the first two were done eating. Of course, no explanation. He gave us the same attitude as before. I'm the end, the food was worth the piss poor service and I'd go back. I didn't even though I'm the atmosphere, which is delightful. It's clear the owners have put a lot into this and it's sad when you see a member of the staff make an otherwise exceptional experience less than perfect. Very disappointing, especially given the reviews. I am guessing they are based on the location, which is not around many other suitable dining options. The space is adorned liberally with string lights, which offer a nice festive vibe, but our dinner left us mostly wanting. The pizza is just not very good. We went with the margherita with carmelized onions. It is hard to pinpoint the problem, but compared to many of its competitors with this type of thin crust pizza, it had an unpleasant sweetness, stinginess on the toppings, and less flavorful crust. I say go to 2Amys instead - or Ghibellina, il Canale, Pizzeria Paradiso, etc. They also have small plates featuring pastas. We tried a ricotta ravioli and caccio de pepe, which is slightly lemony and quite peppery. No doubt the pasta was much better than the pizza. Considering the fun decor filled with pics of pizza (e.g. a riff on the nevermind and dark side of moon album covers with pizza), we figured that was their star. A friend and I hustled up here recently for HH, which we enjoyed on the patio with my 2 small dogs in tow. As others have noted, they offer "apertivo hour" from 5-7, during which time you can order bottomless small plates and drinks from a limited menu for $23/person. The food portions aren't large, but perfectly sized to nibble and enjoy while sipping a cocktail - and for the price, you can't beat it. Highlights were the green onion zeppole and brussel sprouts, and the prosecco was above average quality. My friend enjoyed her French 75, but ultimately switched to bubbly. Because Monday is also 1/2 price pizza day, we scored a Mt. Vesuvius pie to share and ended up taking a few pieces home. I love a spicy pizza, and this fit the bill. Service was decent, though a bit spotty at times. Our server, while friendly, was harried due to covering extra tables thanks to people calling out. Regardless, we weren't left wanting for any food or drink by the end, and never felt rushed. What a delicious gem! While visiting friends in DC, they took us to Little Coco's. The service was really spot on. It's such a cozy spot, with a beautiful upper deck. If I lived in the area, it would definitely be a regular spot. I had the quack-quack-erac/ Duck fat in a cocktail - heck yes. Really tasty! I also had a lovely glass of wine. I really appreciated the descriptive list. We ordered several apps, and t's the brandade which I recall most fondly. It was perfectly fried and still delicate. While we enjoyed the pizzas, I found them to be a bit too much crust. In that the toppings and sauce did not go close enough to the edge of the pizza. My boyfriend and I had a really nice anniversary dinner at Little Coco's. We came right during the dinner rush during restaurant week and put our names on the list - while waiting, we popped into another bar for a drink and by the time we were done, our spot at the bar was ready. We were hungry but not hungry enough to each get the restaurant week special (app, main, dessert), but we split ricotta on bread, each got our own pasta, and split the chocolate mousse dessert. All of the elements of the night together were just great. Tasty pasta, delicious cocktail on draft, cool space at the bar (which cleared out around 8), no pressure to rush, a great bartender. Little Coco's is one of the few spots in DC that makes all its pasta fresh in house. Not just that, they make their own bread and pastries fresh onsite as well. I am really psyched that they opened in our neighborhood and we'll have a great place to enjoy a special meal with excellent food in a atmosphere that is good for families but also good for adults eating sans kids. My partner, toddler, and I recently tried a few of the menu items. Here's our take: Pizza Margherita: just what you'd expect of a place doing Neapolitan-style pizza. Quality cheese, good crisp texture, and nice range of flavors. Ahi Tuna: much like a tuna tartare, but with an avocado mousse. Fresh, deep flavor. Would happily order again. Brandade Fritters: I hadn't ever had this dish before. It's a deep fried cousin of salt cod, which isn't a great description. It has the texture of deep fried mashed potatoes but with more flavor. I loved it, so did my wife, and surprisingly, so did our 2-year-old. Cacio e Pepe: despite how much we enjoyed the other food, this was definitely our favorite. The pasta was fresh and perfectly al dente. It had a rich, earthy, generous peppery flavor and both of us would have been happy to have more than our half. Negroni: well garnished, properly proportioned, served promptly, tasty. Just what one expects of a good restaurant bar. Homemade Gelato: we had dark chocolate and vanilla thyme. Both had good flavor. Would have loved the chocolate to be a bit more bitingly dark but I bet most people are happier with a mellower gelato. I think they are still tweaking the process so we hope it's a bit more intense and a has a lower air content once it's finalized. That said, we enjoyed the gelato thoroughly. Our daughter was delighted, looked up and said "mo yogurt, peas" which of course meant more gelato, please! The place is just opening so it's too soon to pass a definitive judgement but so far the food is excellent, the service is warm and attentive, and setting is inviting and fun. We sat at the bar and shared an app, entree and dessert...and I enjoyed two cocktails. Despite being opening night, the service was spot on and the food was great (bruschetta, pizza frito and tiramisu) and the cocktails were a great complement (but also would be solid on their own). This place has been such a mainstay for us for years, particularly during COVID. We feel very safe and taken care of with their protocols. Their wine selection is always good and reasonably priced, and I love their black old fashioned. I think we've tried all of their pastas by now and the bigoli remains a rich, delicious favorite. Off their apps, I never skip the Brussels sprouts when they're on the menu, and adore their meatballs. My son has grown up on their pizzas and gelato. I usually don't enjoy my food but my fig/honey/prosciutto/mozzarella/ricotta pizza pie was to die for. Mami got her hands and face greasy during meal time. Lindsey hogan was a gem of a waitress and treated me like a normal person. read more

Tried Little Coco's for dinner one night with a couple of friends. We were there on a Thursday, when they have a 'pasta and prosecco' deal, where you get bottomless prosecco (for a limited amount of time - two hours), a salad, and a pasta dish for 30 bucks. That's an amazing deal in DC, so we jumped on it. They also do a 3-course prix fixe for 35. Menu is pretty reasonably priced all around. The food was really, really good. The arugula salad with crispy prosciutto is excellent, and I loved the squid ink tagliatellini as well - it has a saltier flavor and I thought it tasted unique -- and, it was also not overly creamy, which I appreciated. Also ordered a scoop of spiced vanilla gelato for dessert, which was lovely, and a nice change from regular old vanilla. Service is friendly and attentive (prosecco refills abounded!). It's also a family-friendly place - lots of kids around. Just a lovely little joint - glad it's in the neighborhood and hope it stays there. Little Coco's is the perfect neighborhood Italian spot. The warm and relaxing atmosphere, the crave-worthy dishes, and the great wine list. We sat at the bar and had a wonderful night splitting the Bigoli pasta and the Mt. Vesuvius pizza and walked home perfectly satisfied. Also great for take-out. read more

We ordered the goat cheese ravioli and the sailor man pizza. It was fantastic. Honestly some of the best Italian food I've had in DC, and maybe ever. Highly recommend. Ambiance is also great. read more
