2 Amys has been on my list for years now, and I'm so glad I finally made the trip to go and check them out. The inside is quaint, unpretentious, but still warm and welcoming. Though not really featured or mentioned in reviews, they also have a very cute patio in the back that is covered with large umbrellas. As for the food, everything was excellent. We started with the squid salad special, which consisted of cold pre-cooked squid with some beans and thinly sliced celery. I was surprised by the combination, especially the addition of celery, but all the flavors melded very well together to create a light and refreshing starter. I would have preferred some char-grilled squid over this, which seemed either tinned or boiled, but it was still excellent and well balanced. For mains, we got a margherita pizza and one of the stuffed pizzas. The margherita was definitely in my list of top neapolitan style pizzas in the area--perfect char to the crust, complex and savory yet simple sauce, and a perfect chew to the mozzarella. Other reviews have mentioned that the pizza was soggy. This was not my experience. In fact, it may have been a little more crispy than what I typically expect from neapolitan. The stuffed pizza was super decadent, and probably enough to feed two people. I don't usually go for calzones or stuffed pizzas because I find that ricotta can get grainy when cooked. However, this homemade ricotta was out of this world. Super creamy and not grainy at all. Beyond all this, tip/service is built into the price of everything on the menu. That means no automatic 20% service fee; the price you see is what you pay (plus tax of course). I really think this is the way restaurants should be doing it, and I commend 2 Amys for being early to the trend. Overall, a great neighborhood spot that I think deserves more recognition! read more

It honestly took a couple of times to get used to Neapolitan pizza as it's thinner, almost soggy, and different from what I'm used to but now I'm kind of obsessed. Super family friendly and have high chairs and kids sippy cups and offer milk for kids for just a couple bucks. Service is always great. Casual but nice, great for a date or for family night. Such a cute restaurant with great pizza! The crust/bread is PHENOMENAL, I usually don't eat my crust but truly enjoyed every bite. Service was also fast and attentive, everything came out quick, and the staff had a very nice "family", small business feel to it that was super welcoming. The restaurant's outdoor area was perfect for a warm spring day, super cozy and feels like you're in someone's backyard. While I felt like the sauce for the pizzas were a little plain, all of the topping ingredients and pizza dough were such great quality and helped make up for it. Absolutely worth all the hype. This place is a gem in the neighborhood and I almost don't want to review it to give it more attention & overload it with influencers. The pizza was outstanding, Diet Coke so crispy. The rest of the menu also seemed to be very unique and fabulous - looking forward to coming back and trying something new, to include the prosciutto! I thought I would give this place a try for two reasons. 1) This is a non-tipping establishment, where gratuities are included, which is good since I personally and very strongly dislike tipping culture. 2) The reviews were good, too. I only tried the Margherita pizza, since I think it's always a good start to judging the quality of the pizza, and I wasn't disappointed! The sauce and toppings were flavorful, the crust was a bit chewy with a bit of a crunch, and the pizza itself wasn't soggy. I also had a beer. I think they have a decent beer list, but I would hope to see more stouts in the future on top of what they already have! Otherwise, all else was good and I'm sure I'll eventually be back in the future to try another pizza flavor and maybe a dessert this time. My eating experience here "almost" made me feel as if I was eating at a restaurant somewhere in Europe for about an hour, between the no mandatory tipping policy and the laid back vibe of the place. I personally hope that this will be the future of eating out in the US, which I think is many years overdue. The only thing I wish they'd do is include the tax in the published price. Made a last minute decision to stop here for pizza as we drove by and was pleased with my experience. The seating is broken up into 3 areas, bar seating, the second floor which is much more intimate and quiet, or the ground floor where you're exposed to the open kitchen. The service was lovely. The wait staff was super responsive and cared for our every need. We ordered 2 pizzas and some meatballs. The meatballs were a charred a little too heavily for my liking and were a little bit dry. We had a nice Sunday lunch at 2 Amys. It was busy but they made room for us at a table. They have a true Neapolitan menu with lots of Italian favorites on it. We got a delicious salad, an interesting rappini app that was OK, and 4 of their pizzas. The roasted eggplant one was the most interesting - intensely smoky! Overall the menu was meaty-er than I thought at first glance, but we were able to make things work as vegetarians. Fine service and loved the no tipping - prices seem high on the menu as a result, but they are "all in" prices. We'll be back if we're in the neighborhood. read more

I've lived in DC for three years, and 2 Amys has and will always be the first restaurant I recommend to anyone in the area. I love this place. 2 Amys has incredible Neapolitan-style pizzas that come right from the oven to your plate -- tear-apart hot, fire-blistered but chewy dough, savory olive oil and herbs, incredible toppings -- but what really shines about this small restaurant is its incredible seasonal-inspired menu. Check them out on Instagram to see what they're doing, but expect something creative -- I've had an assortment of sardines, salads, fried meat ball things that I forget the name of because I'm not Italian, porchetta (such amazing porchetta!), and homemade ice creams. Also, beautiful ambiance -- warm and inviting with excellent decor. Amazingly, quick brick oven cooked pizza. Doesn't matter which one you get they are all great. All ingredients are fresh and you can tell immediately upon the first bite. Expect a wait when you arrive! We came on a Friday evening and were told a 45 minute wait. Though you have the option of waiting at the bar, it is a small area and was already crowded so our only option was to wait outside. Be sure to dress warm, although we were, towards the end of out wait, my feet were starting to get very cold. Inside is small, busy, tables are seated close together and the dining room floor is hustling and bustling. We were brought here by our friends who rave about this place and they had every right to. We started with two orders of suppli which is a fried risotto ball stuffed with mozzarella, these had a perfectly crisp outside with a soft, tender inside, but be careful, they're hot hot! Tip: order a side of their tomato sauce to dip, it's so good you can drink it. For our entrees our party ordered primarily pizza with the exception of myself. The Pozzuoli with sausage and peppers had the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. I opted for a stuffed calzone - the ripieno basilico with ricotta, mozzarella, pesto and tomato. It was all the flavor combinations my Italian self drools over. It was well stuffed with each of the cheeses and you can taste the flavor combination of each of them, the pesto was also very tasteful. This is a place my son found when he was a professional ballet dancer for Washington Ballet. We would frequent this restaurant whenever we were in town for a performance or show. The pizza is the closest pizza I have had to true Italian pizza outside of Italy. To say it is amazing is an understatement. The pizza is cooked in a wood burning oven and comes out piping hot. The cheese is truly what makes this pizza so good. We had not been in a while so this was a slice of heaven . Since, the last time we went the restaurant had chosen not to add a gratuity line to your bill and are now charging prices which allow staff to be paid fairly. This was a nice change to see and the only restaurant in this country where I have seen that . Highly recommend if you are in DC to check this restaurant out. We got the salt cod croquettes which I think I liked the most, lots of fish and nice with the lemon and aioli. It is an excellent restaurant in every way. their napolitano pizza has to be in the top 5 of the USA. it is certified DOC italiano and stuff. their appetizers, salads, soups, drinks, and desserts are just as good. it's a beautiful space, with two nice patios, and the service is always spot on. i've recommended it to many people over the years and they've become regulars as well. they do not accept reservations, and they frown on tipping (there's no tip line on the bill, but you could leave cash). the neighborhood is super desirable and hard to find parking in, but there's a reasonably priced parking garage right next door. if you're a fan of authentic italian pizza, you've got to go :-) . read more

I came with my wife because they had a steak on the menu. Let's just say this is not a steakhouse. The steak is prepared in the pizza oven (cross-contamination), and they only make it to medium rare. They said this was a restriction of the oven. The steak was very fatty, and I barely ate half of it.
