    spicy tuna on crispy rice
    Rosie H.

There's plenty of parking in the lot, which is always a plus. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall at the end of the building. There was a bit of a wait, unfortunately, you're not able to RSVP. When we got there, we put our name on the list and about 20 minutes later, we were called to come in. They recommend that you leave any strollers outside since the dining area is so small. We had to do the spicy tuna on crispy rice. This is soooo delicious and I could seriously inhale these. We ordered so many rolls: sashimi rolls, cajun rolls, seared pepper salmon, baja yellowtail, tuna lover, aloha, and holy cow. My favorite roll was holy cow, hands down. The next would be the seared pepper and aloha rolls. Everything tasted so fresh and the service was very efficient. I can see why this place is pretty popular. I'd definitely go back for more of their rolls.

High quality sushi, good size portions, delicious! The employees were all very welcoming and kind. They answered questions we had about the menu as well. I will definitely be coming back to this spot, especially for the chirashi bowl!

We love the Cajun Tuna Roll , it's refreshing and delicious! Between my husband and I we need two orders Crunch Onion Albacore is a great pairing. The onion is deep fried and somewhat sweet.

Some creamy bubbly before my meal. Oh, and the drink is a Melon Cream Soda.

ALL of the employees are so freaking awesome! We just loved being here. And what came next shouldn't have been a surprise. The sushi was phenomenal. I also ordered some non-alcoholic creamy bubbly before my meal. Oh, and the drink is a Melon Cream Soda. The close quarters may require combat, but the father-daughter beside us were so nice. Not too loud but lots of fun! We will definitely come back here!

Another wonderful experience here! Friday lunch, no wait. Absolutely delicious. Our favs are the chicken karaage and Little Ferry roll. Even their spicy tuna roll is tasty. Awesome staff. Quick and attentive service. Can't wait til we come back. Til next time!

We have been wanting to try Little Ferry Sushi based on some family members' recommendations and was really impressed by how fast and efficient the service was. Our first order came out within 5 minutes, and we were completely finished with our meal in about 45 minutes total, which is perfect when you want quality sushi without a long wait. This spot is really great for intimate dinners, it is a bit cramped inside though so not too ideal for large groups. We ordered the Little Ferry Roll, Sunset Roll, Jumbo Spider Roll, and Salmon Sashimi, and everything came out fresh and well seasoned. The Sunset Roll stood out with its crispy, freshly fried shrimp tempura that still tasted light and clean. The Little Ferry Roll had a great fried garlic addition that added a subtle smokiness, I loved how it elevated the roll without overpowering it. The Jumbo Spider Roll had a fried soft-shell crab that tasted fresh and flavorful, not too oily nor heavy. The salmon sashimi was fresh and nicely cut, although it was thinner than what I would expect given the pricepoint. Overall, this spot offers better quality than your average sushi restaurant, paired with impressively quick service.

I really enjoyed the interior design and the service. The place felt very clean and had a cozy, homey vibe, like a good local mom and pop restaurant that I'd always want to support. Little Ferry Roll: This was my favorite roll of the night. I really enjoyed the fried, crispy garlic pieces paired with the roll. I love garlic, and it added a rich, garlicky flavor. I would definitely get this again. Sunset Roll: A pretty good roll overall. Nothing really stood out, but I would've appreciated larger slices of fish, as they were quite thin. Salmon Sashimi: Pretty standard. I wish the slices were bigger, as they were smaller than what most places usually serve. Spider Roll: This was my second favorite roll. The shrimp tempura and soft-shell crab were super crispy, and the masago added a nice touch to the roll.

Total for 2 crunch rolls and edamame :/

Second time eating here since it's close to work. Last time I forgot to take pics or post a review. Today's the day :) Did a phone order and was told 20 minutes- def took long to complete the orders (2 orders) I recommend you either order online or call in since they are busy. Both times I enjoyed my food. They do offer some lunch specials but be prepared to pay full price if you're just wanting specific rolls. For 2 crunch rolls and edamame it was 35 bucks. They also charge you for spicy mayo which most places I go to do not charge for this. Overall, the location is in a good spot with plenty of parking. It's on the small side inside and has no outdoor seating areas. Sushi is tasty though!

Wow! Such a great family food find. In an attempt to satisfy the kiddie's udon cravings and mom & dad's sushi/bento cravings, we came across this cozy & quaint Japanese sushi spot. Located in the Lake Forest Village shopping center ~ near Albertsons, but in a back corner on the far side of the plaza, is this hidden gem. When you enter, you are greeted by the warm & friendly staff. The restaurant is cozy with cute decor. The service was excellent, with attentive staff checking-in on our meal thruout the night. For appetizers, we started with some garlic edamame and yaki gyoza ~ both of which were really flavorful and kiddie approved. My son ordered the house udon, while my daughter opt'd for the beef version. Both agreed that the portion size was perfect and the broth was savory. My hubs and I both got combination bento boxes. Salmon teriyaki & spicy tuna roll (with extra eel sauce on the side) for me and beef teriyaki & spicy tuna roll for the mister. We liked that we got a full roll portion (8 pieces) vs the dinky half/4 piece sizes you sometimes see at other sushi spots. We both loved our choices and as you can tell from the pic, the portion was plenty. The sushi was really fresh and you can taste the quality ingredients. We would DEFINITELY come back! A total must try.

BEST Chicken Karaage of all time.
    Cecilia C.

The best chicken karaage OF MY LIFE. The meat is so tender, juicy, and flavorful. The skin is perfectly crisp. I scraped the roof of my mouth with it, but I don't care. I would do it again. A little squeeze of lemon to cut the tasty fat, and a perfectly sized side dish of creamy dressing complete this winner of an appetizer. My husband and I order it every time we come and it is always delicious and more than satisfying. Service from Brian (Bryan?) is always prompt, attentive, and very courteous.

Great little hole in the wall sushi spot. Everything comes out fresh, from the sushi to the apps. I recommend the Little Ferry Roll. Service is also quick and all the servers seem very kind. Overall, a great local sushi/japanese spot with fair prices!

    Tiffany K.

My friend found this spot on tiktok and we decided to try it out. We were all SO pleasantly surprised. It's a cozy place that has a cute Japanese interior, and the servers were very kind and attentive and kept checking on us. Also, the best part about little ferry is the value!!! The chirashi bowl was $25, which is an insane deal for what you're getting, and we came during happy hour and they had great deals on that menu. What we ordered: Philadelphia roll- I didn't try this one but my friend said it was good and everything you'd expect from a fresh Philadelphia roll. Garlic edamame- 10/10 YUMMM I never order edamame but this was such a great shareable and I loved the seasoning so much I'd definitely get it again. Spicy tuna crispy rice- 7.5/10 solid crispy rice and spicy tuna. I do wish the spicy tuna was a little more seasoned because it was pretty plain tuna with a little sriracha on top. But I will say the rice was perfectly crispy and all together it was a great bite!! Chirashi bowl- 10/10 WOW this $25 chirashi bowl seriously blew my mind all the fish was soooo fresh not fishy at all and I get pretty picky with my sashimi sometimes but every single piece was delicious even the ones I had no idea what they were. Also the cuts of fish were pretty thick too I was so full I barely finished!!! Love this place I really can't wait to come back!!

The restaurant wasn't busy and we were seated right away. The vibe inside was authentic feeling Japanese style, smallish with several tables and sushi bar seating. My chicken oyakodon was a bowl of cozy comfort to me. It was topped with two slices of yellow pickled daikon. I'm sure it was homemade daikon, not like what you get in a jar from Tokyo Central. We were served their delicious miso soup as a starter. My sister ordered beef teriyaki and tempura. She said it was good. The restaurant started filling up as we ate our meal. A good sign of good authentic Japanese is when you see a lot of Japanese/Asians filling up the place, especially older people (haha, like me), because you know they know well prepared authentic. And that's the crowd that was coming in. Located in a busy center with limited parking, it must get crazy busy later in the evening because the sign outside the entrance says where to form the line. Anyway, my oyakodon and miso soup was so good!

I really felt like a Bento box. Got the shrimp temp. with 3 vegs, miso soup, salad and rice. Ordered hot tea (tea bag in cup with "free refills of WATER" if needed - lol). Found out I'm not crazy about Oolong tea. Shrimp were very anemic, skinny, much more Tempura batter than shrimp. Veggies were more generous in the slices. Served with the usual dipping broth. This was a first and hard to believe: The dipping sauce was refrig. cold - terrible when dipping a hot shrimp in a cold liquid. When I flagged her down, she asked if I wanted it microwaved. I did. Eaten this a 1000 times and NEVER has been served with frigid broth. She acted as though this was their norm. When I took a bite of the just lettuce salad - the dressing !! was loaded with wasabi; again - another anomaly for me. I don't like wasabi. I asked her if it had wasabi in the dressing and she didn't know nor offer an alternative. A few pickled cuke slices were included with the dinner and they were fine and fresh-looking. Rice, of course. Miso soup was overly salty with 2-3 miniscule cubes of tofu & a couple small pieces of sea weed. Bathroom was clean. I won't return, sadly. Expected better for $23 - just not up to par.

I have been here a few times with my family during lunch and dinner and it is never that packed. I think it is located in a pretty secluded area so it is not busy but the food is very good. The decor is simple but clean and has many tables. This most recent visit I ordered the marinated beef hot udon and my daughter ordered the Kakiage cold udon. I didn't know what Kakiage is so the staff kindly educated me that it is a ball of Tempura vegetables. Please don't mix it up with Karaage which is Fried Chicken. They are two different dishes. The broth of my beef udon is deep with umami flavor. The soup base has a legit dashi flavor, not the instant udon flavor. You can tell the difference right away. We also ordered the grill squid. The grill squid is tender and has a unique tastes like the dried squid snacks that I get from the Japanese market. The staff even offered hot water for my daughter's left over dipping sauce. FYI -- no photos because we were busy with a cranky toddler. First, the service was genuinely great. The sweetest lady helped us with the menu and served our food, and we really appreciated her kindness. We were also given complimentary edamame, which was thoughtful, although it was bland, dry, and cold -- almost like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while. Since it was complimentary, we didn't think too much of it. For the mains, we ordered the beef teriyaki and chicken teriyaki bento specials. Unfortunately, both proteins were sliced extremely thin. The chicken especially had a jerky-like texture, and both the chicken and beef lacked flavor. After reading other reviews, they had similar experience. The teriyaki sauce itself was also pretty bland. The tempura was okay, but the tempura dipping sauce tasted watered down and lacked the usual savory depth you'd expect. The one standout was the roll topped with salmon and avocado with spicy tuna inside. It was presented beautifully and tasted fresh and well-balanced. Based on this, I honestly think rolls are what they do best. I really hope they improve the preparation and seasoning of the chicken and beef because it was a major turnoff -- and this is coming from someone who eats pretty much everything. It's hard to justify paying around $22 for a bento when the main protein feels flavorless and insubstantial. With so many good Japanese resto in Lake Forest, I would skip this until the proteins are fixed.

The cheese pull goes crazy and it is a large reason we always return! We love the curry as well! Hire Katsu (2/5): sad to say this one was a bit of a disappointment. I wish we had taken a picture but the pork had been pounded extremely thin to the point where i only really tasted the panko. To my knowledge, this was supposed to be a more premium cut since it's more expensive than the other pork katsu. So far, we have had more good experiences than not at Hako, and prefer not to let this particular experience deter us from returning again.
