Discovered this gem on Postmates and I'm so glad I took a leap of faith! It's definitely risen to the top sushi spot for me in my area. I generally get simple nigiri and fresh sushi rolls. I tried the Only You and Crunch Mania Roll alongside some fresh sushi like the Ama Ebi, Uni, Salmon belly, and Hotate sushi. WOW wow wow. Each and every piece was divine. And I tried to savor every bite. I love when restaurants give you the Ama Ebi fried head, this place takes the cake for me. Wasn't too greasy at all! I thought presentation for delivery wasn't too bad and the size of the cut for the rolls weren't messy and uneven. All in all, I'll be happy to explore more on the menu but at least I know from what I ordered, this place has got it down. read more

Came in yesterday and was offered a seat around 9PM. At 10PM, after they had closed, we were still waiting for food! Why seat customers if you are going to ignore them? At first the chefs were not even in the bar area. When they finally arrived they were more interested in online orders instead of preparing food for customers who are right infront of them. (I see other reviewers have also experienced the same) We were not happy, when discussing whether to leave instead of continue to wait, the owner kept looking at us and never once came over to see how to mediate the situation. We finally flagged the server and told them to cancel everything. The owner said "Oh no, they are leaving?" Very rude, of course we left we had been seated an hour and did not receive any food! We could see the chef area they didn't even START making our food. I can understand it was late, but if you do not have the hands on deck do not offer a seat to customers looking to dine in. I am not sure why I am surprised, years ago I tried to eat here and had a terrible experience. About 4 years ago I walked in to get a table for one and the female owner kept looking at me and walking away. I was waiting probably 20 minutes at the front desk, and gave up since no one acknowledged me (other than uncomfortable glares from the owner.) Terrible service. went to mushashi sushi tonight and had a really bad experience that left me not wanting to return. i want to preface with this by saying our server is not at fault. he was very nice. but i think the female owner and the chefs are at fault here. we arrived just after 9:00 PM knowing they close at 10. we saw an open front door and an open sign on so we walked in and the owner seated up immediately so we thought okay cool. we were sitting for about 10 minutes before our order was taken. we got hot waters and the mugs were dirty and stinky. we waited UNTIL 10 PM and still had not received any food and ended up asking to cancel our order. we had ordered around 5 rolls, but the chefs were instead no where to be seen. when they did come back around the bar they started making online orders. once it hit 10 PM we knew it was after closing we had not been given any food. we left. this was a bad experience. the owner kept walking around our table never speaking to us, never trying to get any food out to us. bad service. our server was very friendly but the rest of the service was very bad. we will not be returning read more

They brought the kids meals 20 minutes after everyone else was fed. We constantly were asking for assistance. No real ambiance. But, the place was fairly cleared out: only 2 tables occupied - makes you think you're gonna get great service, right? Actually, it was "okay" - could have been worse. I really felt like a Bento box. Got the shrimp temp. with 3 vegs, miso soup, salad and rice. Ordered hot tea (tea bag in cup with "free refills of WATER" if needed - lol). Found out I'm not crazy about Oolong tea. Shrimp were very anemic, skinny, much more Tempura batter than shrimp. Veggies were more generous in the slices. Served with the usual dipping broth. This was a first and hard to believe: The dipping sauce was refrig. cold - terrible when dipping a hot shrimp in a cold liquid. When I flagged her down, she asked if I wanted it microwaved. I did. Eaten this a 1000 times and NEVER has been served with frigid broth. She acted as though this was their norm. When I took a bite of the just lettuce salad - the dressing !! was loaded with wasabi; again - another anomaly for me. I don't like wasabi. I asked her if it had wasabi in the dressing and she didn't know nor offer an alternative. A few pickled cuke slices were included with the dinner and they were fine and fresh-looking. Rice, of course. Miso soup was overly salty with 2-3 miniscule cubes of tofu & a couple small pieces of sea weed. Bathroom was clean. I won't return, sadly. The restaurant was completely empty, but service was slow since the waitress seemed overwhelmed with takeout orders and phone calls. It took quite a while just to get water and place our order, even after asking the sushi chef (who was not happy to be asked). We ordered the cucumber salad, shrimp tempura, and soft shell crab to start. The cucumber salad was plain and lacked dressing, the tempura was decent, and the soft shell crab was tasty with a small side salad with sesame dressing that was actually the best part. For mains, we had two bento boxes -- one with chicken teriyaki and baked mussels, and the other with mackerel shioyaki and fried shrimp. The miso soup was solid, but the salad could've used more dressing. Overall, the food was okay, but the poor service really hurt the experience. This was our second visit, and unfortunately, I think it might be our last. It feels like dine-in guests take a back seat to the takeout business here. read more

I've been coming here for years and just realized I've never left a review, so it's definitely overdue! If you're in the mood for sushi, this spot is a must. My wife, daughter, and I come here all the time and we seriously can't get enough. We've tried a bunch of different rolls, poke bowls, soups, sashimi, you name it! and everything is always on point. One of my favorites is the bento box. It's such a solid deal. You get a roll, salad, soup, rice and your choice of protein, and it always fills you up. Can't go wrong with it. Everything always tastes fresh, the flavors are consistent, and we've honestly never had a bad experience here. On top of that, it's always a good vibe inside. Came here on a weekday for lunch and were seated right away. Quick service, decently priced rolls, okay taste. We tried the baby octopus tempura, blue crab wrap, eel and cucumber roll (50% off), yellowtail belly, MuMu baked roll. Everything came out at a good pace. The tempura was really good - the second best thing I tried behind the yellowtail belly. The tempura was nice and crunchy, yet juicy on the inside. Dipping sauce was great. A bit too much batter for me, but there was still a good amount of octopus in there. That yellowtail belly was really smooth and tasty. It didn't need any additional dips or tastes. The blue crab wrap was a bit disappointing to me. The taste was very creamy, and despite the cucumber, there weren't a lot of textural differences. Likewise, I can see why the eel and cucumber roll is 50% off. It was pretty small and basic. The roll came out almost falling apart before it hit the table. The MuMu baked roll was unique. I've never had langostino before, and had to look it up. It's like a tiny lobster. Very interesting taste and texture. I can't eat too much of it, but it was pretty tasty. I'd recommend trying it. The fish tasted fresh (decent size) and not too much sushi rice which was also a plus. The toro nigiri types tasted a bit fishy, but not bad overall. It's very dark and moody which would make for a good casual date spot but I brought my kids here and they loved their sushi rolls and their kama fish here. The service was amazing and we came around 2:00pm so it wasn't busy and the service was fast. I highly recommend their rolls and their shishito peppers the best peppers I've tried with just a pinch more salt it was perfect. The food was overall pretty good, some items better than others. Our waiter was very kind and attentive and good at his job. Unfortunately, the owner is extremely rude, off putting, and unprofessional to her staff. Parking is plentiful. It's in a large strip mall off Raymond and El toro, across the library and the post office. I ordered: - ankimo monkfish sushi - blue crab hand roll - chirashi plate The lady working the front is very friendly. There are other servers working who noticed me and didn't bother to greet me at all. I believe that any employee working the front should greet any potential customer, even if they're not able to help them right away. Some acknowledgement that somebody is gonna spend money on your establishment goes a long way. This place has been around for a long time. They have a presence and interior decoration set in stone. I do not love that they use the cheapest of packaging for their to go order. We are in 2024 now. You can pay extra for compostable and presentable packaging. It actually does go a long way. For food quality: None of the rice has that sweet vinegar taste. It's all steamed white rice with furikake. This restaurant is a Korean-Japanese restaurant. I think you could go the extra step and make sure the rice is good sushi quality rice and season it extra so it tastes more traditional. The fish is all good quality. I have severe mixed feelings about the blue crab hand roll and the chirashi. The hand roll is a behemoth size. But it's all steamed rice, that cheap fish eggs, blue crab, and furikake in a soy wrapper. Why is there SO much furikake?? I have never had furikake on rice with sushi. With poke, yes. The chirashi came with uni, which I was happy about. For $30, it better include some good options. It also included surf clam, roe, unagi. It seemed every big piece of fish came with that spicy marinated Wasabi sauce. It would have been better to have that on the side honestly. Not every fish tastes good with that sauce. There was not enough rice to eat with the fish. And it also came with spicy tuna, which really disheartened me, as perhaps personally? I think it's a cheap thing. read more

This charming little sushi spot is hidden in a strip mall right in the heart of Lake Forest, but not something to sleep on. The fish is always fresh and they have an incredible menu.
