A little disappointed. I'm usually not one to leave negative reviews, especially for Japanese restaurants, but I feel like they have potential to do better -- which is why I wanted to leave an honest review. FYI -- no photos because we were busy with a cranky toddler. First, the service was genuinely great. The sweetest lady helped us with the menu and served our food, and we really appreciated her kindness. We were also given complimentary edamame, which was thoughtful, although it was bland, dry, and cold -- almost like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while. Since it was complimentary, we didn't think too much of it. For the mains, we ordered the beef teriyaki and chicken teriyaki bento specials. Unfortunately, both proteins were sliced extremely thin. The chicken especially had a jerky-like texture, and both the chicken and beef lacked flavor. After reading other reviews, they had similar experience. The teriyaki sauce itself was also pretty bland. The tempura was okay, but the tempura dipping sauce tasted watered down and lacked the usual savory depth you'd expect. The one standout was the roll topped with salmon and avocado with spicy tuna inside. It was presented beautifully and tasted fresh and well-balanced. Based on this, I honestly think rolls are what they do best. I really hope they improve the preparation and seasoning of the chicken and beef because it was a major turnoff -- and this is coming from someone who eats pretty much everything. It's hard to justify paying around $22 for a bento when the main protein feels flavorless and insubstantial. With so many good Japanese resto in Lake Forest, I would skip this until the proteins are fixed. read more

Came here after playing softball nearby at the lake forest rec park because I wanted sushi, searched Yelp and this place is highly rated less than a mile away (3 minutes drive according to iPhone). Off we went. Parking was easy in a large strip mall. No hostess here - you are greeted by the 2 sushi chefs upon walking in to sit wherever you'd like. The picture menu is easy to order off of. There are 2 big screens in the room. Tonight they were playing the World Baseball Classic. Women's restroom was clean - check! You get complimentary edamame upon being seated. Just 1 server handling all orders at the time we came in - a nice Korean lady, who at times seemed oblivious ie cleaning empty tables instead of giving us our check at the end of the meal when it was very apparent we were done. lol I looked for something on the menu that has unagi AND salmon but no dice so opted for dragon roll. My other half ordered #8 (forgot the name but it was good though I preferred my dragon roll more) but all in all our rolls came out delicious. Looking around, this place appears to be both a local spot and date spot from a few couples in the room. At the end of our meal our server brought us 2 pieces compliments of the chef, who said it was yellowtail. They have a stamp card that yields 10% after 5 meals and 20% off after 10 meals. My wife and I were craving Sushi from Sahimi and called into the restaurant and were told they didn't open until 430, BUT the employee who answered the phone said he would check with the chef and see if the rice was ready for our order. He came back on the phone and said we could pick up our order in 20 minutes!!! This is the only sushi restaurant we go to now because of the quality of their food and their excellent service!! I asked for the Happy Hour menu but there wasn't one so we got a free dish and that was sooooo nice of them! Food always delicious here. My favorite ever salmon skin handroll is found here at Sashimi. And the rolls, so fresh and flavorful with delicious sauces and toppings. My nigiri was a nice big portion and yummy! Sashimi is a sushi restaurant located at the corner of Lake Forest Drive and Dimension Drive. It appears to be run by a Korean family and is a popular spot among the locals. They have a sushi bar, but we opted to dine at a table. Steve greeted us and was not only friendly and helpful, but his service level enhanced our overall dining experience. We tried a number of dishes during our visit. Among my favorites were the Veggie Tempura, Salmon Nigiri, Lake Forest Roll (I appreciate that they allow substitutions so I subbed spicy yellowtail in place of the spicy tuna) and Special Carpaccio S. The Spicy Salmon cut roll was nothing special and tasted more like a California Roll. The Yellowtail Cheek was good, but it was more meaty and less tender than I've enjoyed at other Japanese restaurants. My wife ordered the Pink Lady, but I prefer my sushi with rice. All in all, we enjoyed our Sashimi experience and I'd recommend checking it out if you're in Lake Forest and in the mood for raw fish at a reasonable price. read more

Place seems older and do expect the older crowd of Lake Forest to be lurking around at this time (not a bad thing lol). Got the poke bowl and a chicken katsu lunch special. See pics and you will understand. Poke bowl was filled with precut fish drenched in a bbq sauce, almost like they premade and dug it out of a bucket. It smelled suspect too and honestly I'm surprised I didn't get a stomach ache after. Chicken katsu was more like skin katsu, there was no chicken, just fried skin cut in slices. What we loved: - the service - our rolls, the salad dressing, and tempura were DELISH - I eat a lot of ginger and they provide a generous amount The chicken teriyaki wasn't our favorite. The pieces were cut really thin and needed more sauce. Since they put the rice, chicken, and salad in a box with 3 compartments, you only get a few pieces of lettuce for the salad. We loved the dressing so much and luckily had some lettuce at home to add. Will come back again for pickup and to dine in. The nicest staff you'll ever find at a sushi spot and the freshest sushi in south county. This is a tiny spot, but what I love most is that they close and reopen at 4:30pm - get there early to avoid the wait! Perfect spot for a date night or just a dinner with a few friends. They have an outdoor patio for summer nights, but I prefer sitting inside and chatting with the friend staff. The rolls are unique and they're so open to making any accommodations you'd like. Don't like seaweed and prefer soy paper? No problem! I also appreciate the large selection of no rice rolls in case you're watching your carbs. For hand rolls, I highly recommend the Spicy Salmon. SO. GOOD. I have yet to experience everything on their secret menu (I just learned they had one!), but got to try one random thing when I visited on Friday night with a girlfriend. I was especially pleased with the portions for the yellowtail belly and salmon belly. I finally got my husband, who is very picky with sushi, to check it out. He thought the sushi quality was just okay and wouldn't come back. We got our toddler the chicken katsu plate, but the chicken was a bit dry, and he didn't eat much of it. I've been a fan of their sushi taco (spicy tuna with avocado and mayo), but the last time I tried it, something was missing--the flavor was off. This is a local spot that we recently found. Love that their front parking spots are labeled Sashimi. This establishment is not large but the friendly staff, delicious food, and quality is awesome. At one point, they had fresh sweet shrimp that came through. wow... we were amazed at what they did with it. In terms of other items, there's a lot of creativity on the menu. While some items stick to their roots, you'll find plenty here that can captivate your pallet. Paired with fresh ingredients, you'll have a wonderful and enjoyable experience. With sushi, it is all about balance. Sometimes they cut the fish too thick, sometimes too thin. Often the rice is overcooked or undercooked. Not enough rice vinegar or too much -- Nobu Matsuhisa Here at Sashimi, at least for my later Saturday night dinner, they do it just right :-) Rolls, sushi, sake; it was all so lovely and so perfect. Pricey no doubt, but worth every penny. The photos just show a little bit of what we loved. Open until 9:30-10pm in an area not known for restaurants being open at this time. Found this on Yelp as a local sushi place and wanted to support a local business. Japanese food and specifically sushi is one of my family's favorite dishes and we've had a variety of options in the area. My wife and I were feeling takeout, so we placed an order by phone, which was simple and efficient. When I arrived at Sashimi, there was ample parking available and it was easy to fine. There is counter seating where you can see the sushi chef make the sushi in front of you, as well as regular tables to sit at, I would say it is a small-medium sized restaurant. Food-wise, we ordered a rainbow roll, pork katsu combination meal with spicy tuna roll, and the Lake Forest Roll. The quality was pretty average, as indicated by my three star review. The sushi wasn't that fresh and the taste didn't stand out or wow me in any way. In addition, the rice that was a part of the pork katsu combination meal was dry and unappetizing, which is a big no-no, especially at Japanese or sushi restaurants. If the dishes were cheaper, the quality to value would have been a lot better, but similar to other reviewer's experiences, the pricing here is pretty expensive, whether it is their combination meals or rolls. I want to give this place another try and hope that an in-person experience will taste better. Fortunately, the Lake Forest Shop and Dine BOGO gift card program will help alleviate the higher costs, and I hope to come here in-person sometime. read more

Sashimi was terrific! I sat outside on their cute little patio on a beautiful day. I ordered the oysters, spicy garlic edamame and the yellowtail and tuna tataki nigiri. The oysters were fresh and had so much flavor; I was very pleasantly surprised. The garlic edamame was seasoned well and it was just what I was looking for. The nigiri was so tasty and it melted in my mouth. The service was impeccable. The sweet girl who served us went above and beyond. She refilled our waters constantly and when I inquired about nigiri options she brought out a separate menu and offered recommendations, always having a smile on her face.
