This review is for a takeout order. So we were craving sushi and my daughter's favorite local is LJ. We ordered online for a pick up. 3 rolls, 2 miso soups (tiny), chicken teriyaki for 1 and a pad Thai. $96. I asked for an itemized receipt but the lady said she didn't have one. I have no idea why I paid so much and it is not ok. My eel roll was not very good: it fell apart so it was just rice and a tiny bit of (hopefully) eel. Pad Thai was just noodles and fried egg. Absolutely no taste. My husband was happy with his chicken teriyaki but that man will eat rocks so he's not a good review source. Honestly, I don't get it. My daughter loves this place. The restaurant was pretty full (it is very small though), very crowded, not cozy, food meh (take out). So?? Confused. read more

I wish they would rename this restaurant to "Little Korea" and serve only Korean food. Their Korean menu items are much better than their "Japanese" items. This is because the owner/chef "Justin" is Korean. None of the Japanese items I've had here are made correctly. And they are always underwhelming. I understand "Justin" opened this restaurant in a time when Korean food wasn't yet popular in the US, so all Asians had to pretend to be Japanese and open a sushi joint because that's where the money was at. I first started coming to see Justin 26 years ago when they first opened up here, and it was amazing! Some of the best sushi I'd ever eaten. I joined Yelp and reviewed this place around 14-15 years ago and it was still amazing, I'd long since moved up to Palm Beach and still came down here for sushi once in awhile until I found comparable quality closer to home... Came down to shop at IKEA today and decided to stop by for old time's sake. Sadly, the years have taken their toll. The Davie roll, once a double fisted roll as big as my wrist, was sad and emaciated, nowhere near its former glory. Yukke was super wet, not spicy, and seemed more full of chopped scallions than beef. We got the Little Japan roll and the Super Duper roll, but both were bland and pedestrian, put together on a plate with nothing to tell where one started and the other stopped. Everything seemed rushed, and hastily thrown together, not like the quality and care that used to go into everything here... The service is still top rate, fast, friendly, and efficient. The ambiance is exactly the same, literally the same picture on the wall as long as I can remember, and Justin is still behind the counter putting out product, but no matter how familiar it seems, nothing is what it was. read more

I was craving sushi for my birthday dinner and after a visit to one of my happy places (IKEA) my Love recommended Little Japan one of his fav sushi spots. Upon entering I was struck with how busy and full of energy this small restaurant was. The owner, Justin, was out visiting tables and I overheard asking about patron's kids, etc so this is clearly a longstanding (26 years Justin mentioned) business with lots of regular customers! I also saw them do a decent amount of takeout while we were there, so consider that if looking for a to go meal! We had the Little Japan Roll, Davie Roll and Super Duper Roll...all were good but I think the Davie Roll was my favorite with its eel and tempura! A taste of spicy goodness in Davie. I usually get take out from Little Japan but today my family wanted to eat in their dining room. At normal dinner time this place is always very busy but we are here right at their dinner opening at 5pm. I ordered the fried gyoza that I dip in soy sauce and conch salad which could have been thinner sliced. The California Roll came on a wooden serving tray with huge slices that tasted fresh. This cozy little sushi restaurant is a gem for all those who live near. It's a small restaurant, but what it lacks in size, it makes up with great service and great food. The place is never empty and has many frequent visitors. They also serve Thai, and I just started discovering their sake collection. Perhaps not as expansive as some other places, but they have cold unfiltered sake, which is my favorite. Price is reasonable, and I find myself always wanting to go back. Very friendly employees that say hello everytime we walk in and know our names. Ordered my favorite Super Duper Roll and Little Japan Roll, Miso Soup and Fried Gyoza. Big portions at decent prices for the freshest fish in the area. Got an extra side of eel sauce and soy. I use a healthy chunk of wasabi on each large piece of sushi. read more

We had Tuna Tataki, Miso soup, and 2 Specialty Rolls. Definitely better than Publix, but I can't say it was one of the best that I've had. Everything lacked flavor, Spicy Mayo was not spicy, and the rolls kept falling apart. But the reason I gave them 3 Stars was because for the price, I guess you can't beat it. The kids love coming here because the food is so good and they love hearing the waitresses say how good they eat. The food is great and the staff is friendly and efficient and it's never too loud, just right. The owner/chef does an amazing job with the food and you call tell it's great quality. We were looking for something close by and we honestly had been running out of places to eat (in our minds). We ended up at Little Japan. We had been here once before a while ago, and it wasn't my favorite, so we didn't return for some time. I am a true believer in trying places again - as long as it wasn't a really bad experience. It wasn't. So we went for lunch during the week. My husband & I were shocked they had fountain soda. Yay! Definitely a plus. We started with the Yaki Ita (squid). It was so tender and the sauce was very good. I had the Narutomaki - it was salmon & tofu rolled in cucumber. It was very fresh and refreshing. We also had edamame. It was perfectly cooked and warmed through - I hate mushy edamame or inconsistant temperatures. My husband had a chicken bento (sorry, no photo) and he enjoyed it. Tonight I had an outstanding chirashi sushi from Little Japan - one of the best I've had in a long time. A great variety of very fresh fish, prepared perfectly - including some of the tastiest spicy tuna I've had. And my wife really enjoyed her chicken Pad Thai. We've been ordering from Little Japan since the start of the pandemic. They are consistently excellent. In the past month I have been to Little Japan 4 times and I am already thinking about the next time that I go. LJ is a fairly small sushi spot located conveniently on State Rd 84 in Davie. If you have seen my other reviews, you'll know I am a huge sushi lover so I keep my standards pretty high. Little Japan does NOT disappoint! The sushi at LJ is always fresh, and every single roll I have tasted has always been delicious. I am convinced you could point at any random dish on the menu and it would be amazing! This time we ordered and split the regular salmon roll, 2 salmon hand rolls, the little japan special roll, and the volcano roll; all 10/10. The sushi is so delicious that even without any sauces you'd love the flavor. I have also ordered the shrimp shumai, JB Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll in the past, which i too recommend. I will be posting more updates on this place, as I will probably be going back there again soon. Until then, make sure you give this place a try and chase down some quality sushi with any of the delicious Japanese beers they offer. read more

The place is small so be ready to wait or if you are kicking and don't mind sitting at the bar then you are more likely to find a spot. The fact that it is busy is a great sign and totally deserve as the food is good. Parking is super easy as this place is inside a publix and Walgreens Plaza. The dumplings are my favorite out of the entire order. The device wasn't terrible but they are rushing out of the door and I don't really like that. I want to be able to enjoy my food and not feel rushed. I will definitely g back and see if that was just a one time deal ottllr they are always like that. read more

My family has been enjoying Little Japan for 20 years. Every visit has been exceptional, from a table for two of us to a birthday celebration for 16. Everyone we take there for the first time agrees it is the best and freshest sushi restaurant in town. We always leave full and satisfied at an extremely reasonable price. Little Japan is a decent Japanese restaurant near 75 west and in a plaza off of 136th. I really need to give you an idea of what decent means. To start, the service was really good. They had three servers servicing about 10 or so tables. And they were all helping out all of the tables. Because of the ratio they were very attentive. We started by ordering a bottle of the unfiltered sake which I really like with sushi. For apps we got the sunomono salad, a mixture of octopus, conch and fake crab and an order of the baby octopus. The baby octopus was delicious. The other salad was okay, but the octopus was not fresh. I couldn't eat the octopus, so I picked it out and ate the rest. When I pointed it out to the waitress they didn't do anything about it. So I had to remove one star from my review for that. I got the impression that they thought I just didn't like octopus. Lol, it's my favorite and I order it at every sushi restaurant I go to which has that salad. We also ordered some stuffed mushrooms which were pretty good. They were almost great with the spicy sauce which came with it. Still, I wouldn't order them again. We ordered rolls for our main course. I got an avocado roll, delicious, spicy tuna roll, also delicious, and a salmon skin roll which I don't think was on the menu, but they made it fresh for me and the way that I like it. They get an extra star for that, which evens out the bad tasting, spoiled octopus. I would probably return to Little Japan, because the rolls were good and the service was good. But definitely won't be having any octopus here, which makes me a little leery of all their other fish. read more

We tried little Japan a couple months ago and now it's a regular every Friday night. We love their dragon rolls.

Had eaten here a long time ago and decided to try it again. It turned out to be a really good choice. First I was very surprised when we ordered drinks. Considering how small this place is, we were expecting them to bring out two cans of diet coke. Nope, they have a soda fountain machine, I can't imagine where they are hiding it. It must be a sub compact model. Most importantly, the food. We started with edamame and stir-fried squid. The edamame was so good, I only wish they would have had spicy edamame. The squid, tender and tasty. My wife had a roll that had no rice. All I'm going to say is she didn't even save me a bite. Myself, I had the lunch special "j" chicken stir fry. It came with miso soup, salad, and rice. I ordered with no rice. I was just expecting to see the chicken, the vegetables and the salad. By the way, they were all good. It also came with noodles and some kind of fried potato hash brown. They were good too. The next time we want a light lunch, I'm definitely going here. read more
