    That's a coffee bean in a treble hook :)

First, the small "L" is no typo - I just want to make that clear :) This lovely little gem just opened over the summer at the North end of Conesus Lake and it was highly recommended to me to try out. The hours are such that I couldn't always get there in time, but today was a perfect opportunity to grab my daughter and head there for breakfast. The most notable feature of little Lake Brewing is their proprietary, hand roasted, small batch coffee. You can actually taste the love and care that goes into each batch and I give major props to anyone with that kind of dedication to coffee. They also feature homemade pastries (which appear to be seasonal), a simple breakfast menu, and a very cozy atmosphere staffed by 1 or 2 friendly, knowledgeable staff. I love the local feel and convenient location - it's right on the main thoroughfare in Lakeville and not far at all from the 390 exit 9. We had fresh grape-filled muffins, French toast with a few peach slices (and real maple syrup), and some yummy lattes. It's not cheap, but it's also not cheaply made, so keep that in mind. The seating is limited, but I definitely appreciated that there are real heavy duty table and chairs (not cheap plastic or patio furniture). In a world where we can be quite accustomed to numerous selection options and long extended hours, the simplicity of this cafe was actually quite welcome and I think it probably enables them to do what they do very well. Only open till 11am (11:30 in Saturdays) and just a handful of food choices, their laser focus on quality over quantity is apparent. I'll definitely be back (probably for a pound of freshly roasted beans and a pastry of some kind)!

Had the breakfast sandwich with bacon & an iced coffee. So delicious!

little Lake Brewing is an awesome little place at the top of Conesus Lake. I drove here from Rochester - it's definitely worth the trip! The coffee is delicious! I had an iced coffee and a breakfast sandwich with bacon. There's a case of tasty looking pastries - cinnamon buns, scones, muffins, and more. On the healthier side, they also have steel cut oats with fruit on the menu. By the way, I've had SEVERAL breakfast sandwiches in my life, but this was one of the best. The roll was super soft and it was just all around excellent. They have a bunch of different coffee beans available in 16 oz bags, either ground or whole bean. This was 500x better than Starbucks or Dunkin, and as an added bonus the lake is right across the street!

Interior of a mixed berry muffin. I died and went to heaven after I ate it, but I came back to write this review.

I've only had baked goods from this place and they were totally amazing. Their muffins are a wonderful mix of textures from top to bottom (and huge), and the scones are to die for. Now, when I see muffins at Wegmans, I think "You poor things. Maybe you'll grow up someday."

Cute brewery! Glad we stopped on a nice day because there was not much room inside. Beer was good, nice outdoor seating.

Maggie greeted me immediately and showed me around. In addition to the shortbread which is kept in a refrigerator case, there are Scottish collectibles, jewelry, and ground coffee for purchase (no whole beans at this time). They make several varieties of shortbread but stock was low (I think due to St Patrick's Day, even though that's Irish, idk). I bought the plain/regular and a Whiskey Pecan. Both were made fresh this week. Under the paper wrapper, the 8 "fingers" are wrapped in plastic for freshness. The cookies were light, not too dry and delicious. I could taste the Whiskey flavor but my hubby said it was barely there. Regardless, we both loved both cookies. I will be going back next week for the cranberry ones. I can't wait!

I decided I wanted instead to give my money to a local business and have a more interesting coffee experience this morning. So, I went off the Thruway 15 minutes out of my way to try FLCR. As a resident of the Finger Lakes, I'd had their coffee before but it never really made an impression.. So, I was looking forward to the experience. I walked in and there is country music blasting... Not a hipster vibe.:) There was a crowd of old-timers in a corner having their morning klatch, which was great. I love an inviting neighborhood coffee shop, even though this is in a strip mall. I could read the sign that lists roasts available today but the names don't say much about the product, so I asked the counter person what they have available, hoping it'd be obvious that I'm not familiar with their product. She answered by stepping aside so I could read the signs on the coffee pumps. Great! I asked what their lighter blend is. She replied "Lake Blend". So I ordered that. it wasn't until I got myself back on the Thruway that I took my first sip. I have never had a weaker cup of coffee outside of a diner or a hospital situation. Even (especially) a light blend, when brewed properly, should have a flavorful profile and provide a full coffee experience. That should be the expectation at a coffee roaster, right? If I had taken a sip before I pulled out, I think I would've brought it back and requested another flavor. The service was quite impersonal and businesslike and it was obvious the counter person wasn't really clued in. Do ya even drink this stuff? The one saving grace was the medium 16oz cup only cost $1.95. I might have paid twice that for a really good cup, though. I had hoped to add a scone or muffin to my coffee order but the selection was limited, didn't look appetizing, wrapped in plastic film--never a good sign. I will say that the experience is particularly disappointing to me especially because they do roast and wholesale coffee. Why bother roasting when the coffee is made so weak so that the flavor is imperceptible?
