I've had the chicken satay, steamed dumplings (app), pad see lew (I know some places it's eew), lad nar, everything is great. They're very friendly and enjoy your business! I also highly recommend getting a fruit cup or a "freeze". It's literally ice and the fruit of your choice...AMAZING! Very clean Vietnamese restaurant! Unlike lots of Vietnamese restaurants that had dirt plastic floors, this one actually has carpet and doesn't smell. The service was warm and good. The food was fairly authentic but not completely according to my understanding of Vietnamese food. We had the grill beef lunch special, in which the soup and the egg roll were only OK, but the beef and rice were delicious. The texture of the rice was VERY good. We also had Pho Saigon. It had less meat nor came with rare beef as I have expected, but its soup was well flavored. The broth had a strong flavor of pepper, which I prefer but might not be for everyone. The rice noodles were fresh and didn't break into piece when I picked them up with chopsticks. Overall, I am satisfied and impressed with this place in this town. This is a little gem hidden in Springfield, IL. This was my first time dining in at Little Saigon. We were immediately greeted when we walked through the door. The football game was on and we wanted to watch it. They had no problem switching it to the game for us to watch. The waitress came immediately to take our drink order. They had a very good special for $19.99. For that price you receive an appetizer , and two full entrees. I ordered the crab Rangoon as my appetizer and it was great! It was fried ever so lightly that it had a great crispiness to it. They were well filled with cream cheese filling also. I ordered the crazy noodle which was thick cut rice noodles with chicken and veggies. It was very flavorful. I really enjoyed it. Others in my party ordered chicken fried rice and Pad Thai. They both stated that their meal was very good. I will definitely come back to this location if I am in town. I experienced good customer service and good eats! read more

This was my first time at Little Saigon and I had an excellent experience. We chose the Crab Rangoon as an appetizer and chicken lo mein was one of the lunch entrées which came with a fresh vegetable soup and an eggroll. Aside from the ease of excessive parking, this location was definitely a unique dining experience! We came to Illinois for the holidays and this was a place recommended by my family who live here. After we pulled in, we were worried about being in a group but soon realized how large this location was! When we walked in the brightly lit coloring of the walls can seem so overwhelming! The bar is immediately to the left hand side and we made it right before 2:30 pm so we actually made it in time for their lunch specials. As we sat, waters were brought out to us and eventually tea! Loved they had individual bags for the tea service and the menus thankfully had numbers and pictures to easily order. Once we ordered, we begin to get our soup! The egg drop soup was definitely hot but the amount of egg was overwhelming and almost made the soup feel like a gel! As we finished the crab Rangoon, shrimp suimas, and veggie rolls, our food arrived! The portions, for a lunch special was large! The curry we got had peas in it that tasted like dirt, which definitely threw off the flavor! The rice was definitely dense but was dry around the edges, soaking up the sauce of all the dishes making it seem dry! The best dish was the one with a giant egg on top of it! My husband said the meat was well cooked and the veggies tasted delicious! The egg roll that came with the meal was somewhat cold still in the center and so after everything arrived I realized this location needs to be tried a few times! With so many options, and the size of our party, I'll be back to try other items! Also, I dropped a few stars off because of how dirty the restaurant was and the bathrooms were very gross! I am furious. I ordered the #301 because it seemed like it would satisfy my pescatarian diet and mentioned nothing about any meat in the dish other than the shrimp (including the picture on the menu). However, when my dish came back it was PLASTERED with pork. Also, the tails of the shrimp were still on and hard as a rock (). When I expressed my complaints to my waitress she simply shrugged it off. I am beyond disappointed and will probably be taking my business elsewhere from now on. Im a huge pad thai lover but disappointed in their offering. The pad thai had a weird odor and aftertaste which made it unpalatable.

Great food. The staff doesn't understand gluten-free or even what wheat means though I tried and explained very patiently to both the servers who were trying to understand what I meant. At the bottom of the back of the menu it says to inquire if you have any food allergies, so I was a little bit optimistic. Avoid! We were not properly greeted upon arriving, although the staff was friendly in their very limited interaction. Ordered Padd Thai, Mongolian Dish & Green Curry & chicken satay. The Satay sauce was good & so was the chicken, but the chicken consistency was strange. The padd Thai was so bad with over cooked noodles & what seemed like old bottled sauce that we sent it back. I am pretty sure they used regular milk in the curry instead of coconut milk because I am lactose intolerant & was bloated & in pain for 5 hours after eating it. Full disclosure here: I grew up in the largest Vietnamese community outside of Hanoi so I am quite snobby when it comes to legit homeland cuisine. Little Saigon wouldn't last last very long in Southern California but it is definitely the best place around these parts. I also like the Southeast Asian fare at the Mekong Cafe near the Capitol. They are both great alternatives to the dreaded "horse shoe" --- a hamburger and french fry contraption slathered in a creamy cheese sauce. The folks there are always nice and the service is good, which never happens in most Asian places I've been. They have a lot of decent standard staples like fried rice, meat and vegetables, fried noodles, which I admit they do well. My friends from the local university and I really like the mini egg rolls. I know it ain't exactly authentic, but get over yourselves hipsters. My only complaint is that the food has been toned down for Western tastes, like the watered down nuoc mam (fish sauce). But I got to enjoy the PHATTTEST bowl of pho (beef noodle soup) ever so it's all good. P.S. The O in pho is not pronounced like the o in bowl. It's more like a sort of u sound like in cut and putt. Sure, they have Thai food good enough to give Magic Kitchen a serious run for its money, but why bother when they have such incredible Vietnamese food? Went in with the family over Christmas (feeling like I was cheating on the Magic Kitchen the whole time) and the bill for 6 people with multiple appetizers and drinks was about $80.00. We pretty much ate everything in sight, I'm astonished at how affordable it is. The menu is so large as to be intimidating (btw, I love menus with photos), so we tried some of everything. We had dumplings, eggrolls, crab rangoon, all fantastic. My fella had the Chicken Pho, my brother in law had the sampler platter, several others ordered Thai dishes and I had the pork dish with the fried egg on top - I can't remember what it was called, but trust me, everything is better with a fried egg on top. In any case, I could care less what it was called - it was incredible. Everything we had was mind-numbingly delicious, but the great Vietnamese was really a surprise and, for me, is the real draw. With food this great and such a friendly staff, I'll be back every time I find myself back in the Springpatch. The portions are so enormous that a single entree could feed 3 people, it is astonishing! Go with a group and plan to share. My problem with Vietnamese food is that I like it too much. I went into this restaurant with the intention of getting pho only to find myself ordering some summer rolls (minus the pork) and Mongolian beef. Summer rolls -- because I love them -- and Mongolian beef because I've been searching for good Mongolian beef ever since I moved out of Michigan. This was actually probably the second best mongolian beef I've had and it was only second best because I found it to be a little salty...and I like mine saucier. Unfortunately, I don't live close enough to Springfield to make this a regular stop. The restaurant wasn't too crowded but you could tell that the people there were regulars and were known by the staff. Since I don't have any plans to travel back to Springfield, I'll still report that I saw it as a good sign that they had so many repeat customers. Even though I was incredibly full, I couldn't resist getting a bubble tea. I ended up going with avocado and it was surprisingly good though next time I'd go back to getting lychee which is my favorite. I got it to go and I was only able to drink half of it or I would have exploded from too much food. Little Saigon is very popular with the locals in Springfield and I was told that they have won numerous awards so I had to try it while in town. LS is basically across the street from Food Fantasies; Their menu is extensive with many different Vietnamese and Thai dishes available. Being vegetarian, I had to inquire as wether any dish could be made vegetarian but only received confusion from my server- vegetarian meant tofu, right? Not so considering the use of nam pla and kapi in Thai kitchens. So I can't say the food I received was actually vegetarian (crossing my fingers). There was a definite language barrier with the service, ordering by number turned into confusion which eventually gave way to pointing to items in the menu. Ordering a Tiger beer resulted in a Diet Coke being delivered to the table; an order of veggie spring rolls turned into veggie egg rolls which was immediately self corrected upon delivery to the table. As far as food goes, the dishes we sampled were allright, but as I stated, I cannot confirm that anything ordered vegetarian was actually so. The green curry, ordered Thai hot, was barely spicy and the fried rice was too oily for my tastes. My honest opinion of LS is 2.5 stars considering the service issues and uncertainty of the food being vegetarian. read more

I was skeptical about this place at first, as I am about all Asian restaurants in Springfield, but the dishes we ordered hit the spot. Little Saigon is the kind of restaurant where you can get well-prepared, tasty staples (Pad Thai, drunken noodles, etc) in huge proportions at reasonable prices (2 dishes and an appetizer cost us 20$)--a perfect storm in my opinion, since gains in satisfaction at higher-end Asian places tend to be marginal. The overall ambiance isn't anything special, but the interior space is cozy, well-lit, and the server was friendly and waited on us with timely zeal. Upon entering, It looks small from the front but there's more dining area in the back. The smell was great right as we entered. Service was about par with some attentiveness but no complaints here as everything was done within a decent amount of time. Ambiance was thin but warm and welcoming. We ordered an avocado smoothie and Thai tea to start. Although they are the same price, the quantity is far off from one another(see image). The smoothie lacked flavor, and had too much sugar in it though the portion was pretty generous. The Thai tea tasted fine, but nothing special about it and the boba definitely wasn't fresh, lacking in softness and chewiness. Even though it's fine we didn't receive cups of waters with our meal, it would have been nice. My sister ordered the bbq beef ribs and I had the com dac biet with a bowl of egg drop soup. The beef included a small bowl of rice, lettuce, cucumbers, and shredded carrots all topped with their blend of fish sauce. My com dac biet included 2 pieces of pork chops(looks very similar to Sysco's 5oz chops) rice, lettuce, julienned cucumbers, shredded carrots, as well as a small bowl of their fish sauce. As a native to Vietnam, I can safely say that the fish sauce makes the dishes that we ordered. Their blend of fish sauce was quite disappointing. It needs to have a nice blend of sweet/salty/sour/spicy. Their's was lacking in 3/4 departments. The beef had an decent taste to it as well as the pork chops, though the chops a bit salty for my taste. Egg drop soup was under par. To sum it up, this place was OK. I would probably come back when I'm in the area if I'm craving Vietnamese food. The menu seems fairly priced as well. Well, all right.. VERY pleasant surprise. I was in town with a friend on a Sunday and we wanted something different. Most places we're closed for the day which was odd but we found this place and decided to walk in. The service was prompt and friendly and the food was beyond pleasing!! I ordered marinated beef over fried rice and an over easy egg on top. I haven't stopped dreaming about this meal since and feel salty I can't stop by and get it whenever I want. Also had the chicken wings which were just crispy and had a flavor of seasonings I've not tried before. May have been a bit too excited about finding Vietnamese food in Central Illinois. Back again and waited around 5 mins for the host to notice us to seat us - even though he was standing directly in front of us taking phone orders. Also the smell coming from the bathroom was wafting into the rest of the restaurant which was really unappealing. Pho was good but since we ordered only 2 bowls - we were only given one plate of the toppings (basil, sprouts, cilantro, jalapeños). The best in town! We usually get takeout, but have dined in as well and have always had a great experience. I really haven't had a bad experience with the food or service. When I lived in Houston for a few years, I ate pho regularly. When I moved back to Springfield, I was going through pho-withdrawals until I tried Little Saigon's. I don't think it has quite as much flavor as other places, but that's just a thing that might happen when you order vegetarian soup. Crystal noodles, lo mein, and fried rice are all favorites of mine, and my husband never deviates from his standby, sesame chicken. Yes, I am a vegetarian, but yes, I also eat crab rangoon sometimes because I'm pretty sure it's just fried cream cheese. As far as fried cream cheese goes, LS's is the BEST. I have had two entirely different experiences here. My first was take out. I ordered pad Thai. Not good. It advertised vegetables, but came with a couple shavings of vegetables. Also, they overcharged us by putting in 20$ as a tip instead of 2$. Okay, easy mistake. They recovered well by giving us a $25 gift certificate to come back. Our second visit was inthe restaurant. Good service. Great food. The in house menu has pictures and made it a lot easier to make a decision! Mine was some spicy asparagus and chicken I think. It was so good and loaded with veggies! Another saving grace in the mid-west madness. Where strip malls, fast food, and chain restaurants rule, it is good to see a down and dirty Vietnamese (multi-asian) throw down on Wabash Ave. The decor is both delightfully frightening and entertaining at the same time, but we all know that there are a few signature Asian idiosyncrasies which characterize a GREAT down and dirty Asian restaurant: 1) Terrible Decor 2) The bill comes before the food 3) They don't let you sit where YOU want to sit (even when the place is empty.) All jokes aside, this restaurant serves up a tasty meal in an area of town filled with so much other junk food. I had Vietnamese Pho Soup which I'd give a solid 6.9 out of 10 (since I've had pho in Vietnam and Oakland California.) I also had deep fried tofu and would say the same in score. My friends had chicken rice noodle soup, and beef over rice. Looked quite good to me. There were no complaints from them either. Go get it. This used to be a great restaurant. It was family owned and operated. We always had great service and the food was great. The owners sold it a while ago and now it's merely an Asian restaurant with bad service. The wait staff is not good at all. Basics such as taking the customers order in a timely manner is lacking here. Or even bringing the customer the check is lost here. And don't bring my appetizer out after you have served my main dish. Refills? Forget it. Now let's talk food. They overcook the veggies and they are soggy. A lot of the flavor is missing and it just tastes like bland Chinese food now. My favorite dish - basil chicken - has turned into a bland mass of overcooked veggies. It's all just flavorless now. They also seem to be transitioning into a Chinese place, the Thai and Vietnamese dishes are being replaced. There is also a terrible smell in their front hallway and bar area. Authentic cuisine, and good service. This was a very surprising find in Springfield. I travel quite a bit, and this was a great find for me. I highly recommend this place. The food is very authentic, and it usually comes up pretty quickly. They also serve bubble tea which is a nice treat especially in the summer time. Parking is a little tough since the parking lot fills up fast during lunch. Good lunch specials around 6 dollars. Dinners will run you around 10 - 15 bucks. Parking is easy to find at night. Try the grilled chicken, if you want to be safe, you can't go wrong with this. They have a pretty large menu with many curry dishes, soups like pho and egg noodes, and lots a variety of fried rices, so I will definitely be back to try more. My FAVORITE ASIAN restaurant in Springfield!!! I go here at least once a week. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Pad See Lew (fat wide noodles with broccoli) or Pad Woonsen (glass noodles with napa, carrots, onions) with beef. Their Vietnamese pho noodle soup) is also very good and perfect for a cold day! I also HIGHLY RECOMMEND their fruit smoothies!!! The Mango or Watermelon ones are DELICIOUS!! They use real fruit and it's sooo good!!! And lastly, I LOVE their fruit cups!! Freshly cut fruit for only $4! You can choose 3 from six different fruits. Note that mango is seasonal and mostly around the summer time. All of the fruit is fresh and super ripe - awesome!! The restaurant is simple and clean. There's always plenty of parking. Also, make sure to call ahead at least 15 min if you're ordering food to-go. They will pack it nicely for you and make the smoothies when you get there so it's fresh! Staff is super nice!!! This restaurant is a great addition to the Central West End. I've consistently come here over the past 5 years, and while I have had more flavorful pho(although there's is still better than most), this place has consistently good dishes across the board, and a slightly more formal atmosphere. It's actually rare to see good Asian restaurants that have both a more upscale feel and good food, but this place has done exactly that.
