I thought all doulas would try to convince me to do a natural, unmedicated home birth. Thankfully Lacey was fully supportive of my decision to do a hospital birth with an epidural. She never made me feel like it was a wrong or "less-than" decision. Lacey and I became so close during the 7 months we had her as our doula that I now consider her a friend! What more could you want for such a personal experience? Lacey has a 6th sense for childbirth. She knew just how much to "be there" and when to step back and let my husband and I have our moments. During our first meeting I knew that our energies align, she was calm friendly and open to hearing all my desires and concerns. As we continued, she helped me create a birthing plan and gave my husband tools to assist with labor. The evening of my birth , my husband called Elliette desperate for some help. She arrived with perfect timing, I was experiencing intense sensations by that point and her healing modalities were exactly what I needed. Throughout my labor Elliette intuitively observed and tended to my needs. It was special , we were able to communicate without many words. As I traveled deeper into active labor Elliette served an important role in assisting my midwife. When the moment came and it was time for me to push , Elliette was able to capture beautiful moments between my husband and I on our camera while simultaneously keeping an eye out on the time. She did everything I asked for and more. After, Elliette and I were in close communication. This being my first time, I didn't realize how much support was needed after birth. Elliette did an amazing job prioritizing my well being. We had three postpartum visits together and after them i felt renewed and confident. Elliette does not only provide physical support , she helped me emotionally and spiritually. The second birth was a home birth, and it was short and sweet. Also a natural, waterbirth, with the added benefits of being home, unpressured & cozy. I thought I wouldn't need support but midway through the process, I asked my husband to call Marie-Paul, in the wee hours of the morning, and within minutes she was there for us, to support my baby girl and myself in our birthing process. We hear birth stories from friends all the time, and so often we hear "Thank God we were at the hospital, because things didn't go as planned and we had to induce/do an epidural/a cesarean." Our story is pretty much the opposite: "Thank God we had a doula. Thanks to her, we were able to get our dream birth and follow our plan, DESPITE the fact we were in a hospital." We cannot recommend Marie-Paul enough. Her expertise, her dedication, her passion for the birthing process and her empathy make her a dream partner in this wonderful and unique adventure. She makes sure that a woman gets the most out of the experience and helps her discover how unlimited her strength and will power are; that the baby is welcomed without violence and trauma; and that the natural bonding between the parents and the baby is preserved. I was prepared to hire Laura  as our doula five minutes after meeting her. Laura's easy, warm,…read moreconfident nature immediately made us feel we'd known her forever-- a very important quality when choosing a doula!  When my water broke unexpectedly before my labor started, Laura was our first phone call.  She was reassuring, and knowledgeable about methods to help bring on contractions once several hours had passed and I still wasn't in labor.  After 20 hours I hadn't progressed to a level that the midwife on call was happy with, and we made the difficult decision to induce.  Laura knew this was a very uncomfortable situation for me, and in the heat of the moment, she grounded me, reminding me that there were things we could do to make this experience more comfortable. When the pitocin unexpectedly kicked in hard right away, Laura stepped in and intuitively knew what to do: where to apply pressure to my back when I literally couldn't speak, and how to coach my breathing and vocalizing to help alleviate the intensity of the induced contractions. I literally could not have survived the process without her.  In hindsight, the thing I appreciated most about Laura's contribution was that she knew what to do when I could not do for myself. My husband and I were well prepared, but one truly never knows how a first childbirth experience will go, and I was grateful to have her steady presence keeping us on an even keel.  Also, the midwife on call for our birth was not very warm or encouraging- bad luck to be sure- but having Laura present helped keep a tense situation positive and meaningful. After the birth Laura helped us get started with breastfeeding, and because she helped us get such a great start latching, I never had the terrible times in early nursing that plague many first time moms. If we have another child, as is our plan, Laura will again be one of our first calls. I strongly recommend her services-- I'm glad to know her, and will be forever grateful!

And, boy, what a world of difference Laura made in our lives! She is so warm, so intuitive, so easy to talk to, and her experience and natural way with babies (and their parents) just shines through. Laura was there to assist with Sophie when we needed that, to help with light straightening up or baby laundry when that was called for, even being with Sophie when we just needed a nap or some alone time as a couple (which you totally forget you need when in the throes of dealing with your first baby!) When we realized we needed some night doula help, Laura took care of that. She recommended 2 great doulas, Kat and Alex (who I also highly recommend), and Laura helped us coordinate with them a schedule that worked for everyone. So, 8 months later...How lucky we were to have found Dakota! She was referred to me by another…read moredoula (that I knew in another professional manner and we didn't want to cross different paths) and I am so thankful that I took the advice and called her!!! She is one of the sweetest women I've ever met. So compassionate and readily available to answer the questions of this inquisitive first time mama. I learned so much from her about labor and delivery. Sure, I'd read about it all in books, talked to my doctor, and heard from other mom friends; but her perspective was much more soothing and easier to digest. I wanted to have an all natural delivery and if it hadn't been for her guidance and knowledge during our final difficult hours, I can confidently say I wouldn't have made it to the end. Don't get me wrong, my husband is the calm and logical one in this marriage, but during the most vulnerable moment of his life to date, I didn't want him to be 100% focused on taking care of me. I needed to know that he was processing his thoughts and feelings and thoroughly experiencing each moment of our daughter's birth, too. That was very important to me. Thanks to Dakota, my daughter's difficult arrival was exactly as we could have expected, even though 80% of our birth wishes went out the window by the end of the first 10 hours, wee! My husband is a tough crowd, but he really loved having her around, too. He said that it took a lot of pressure off of him having to anticipate every possibility while trying to remain open minded and calm. Seeing someone you love in that much pain isn't fun, but knowing that he could walk away for a moment and catch a few deep breaths without leaving me alone was the best gift we could have received. She was a sweet gentle rock throughout my pregnancy and labor. She has a beautiful soul and I was so very thankful to have her present at the birth of my son. She was there for me every second of the process and we were comforted by her knowledge and intuition. She also supported my baby daddy so he could better support me. I trust her completely and that is really something as I placed my life and the life of my son in her hands. Because of her I was able to labor comfortably at home till I was 7cm.
