    First latch after birth
    Rachel V.

Let me start by saying that Chavah is one of the kindest souls I've ever met! When we first found out we were pregnant, Chavah was referred to us by a dear friend who used her for her home birth, and was so thrilled with her birth experience. Unfortunately that pregnancy ended in a miscarriage, but even though we hadn't formally signed paperwork or "hired" Chavah she still so graciously walked us through the most difficult and painful experience of our life (and I might add that was without even meeting us or receiving a dime from us.) When we were blessed with our rainbow baby, we were not sure we wanted a home birth due to the previous miscarriage anxiety was obviously high. So we started care with a different provider, whom we did not end up being happy with. We switched care to Chavah and that was the absolute best decision we ever made! She honestly saved my pregnancy and allowed me to have the best outcome at my birth. Chavah caught many things the previous provider missed, like low iron and border line GD. She helped educate me to manage the GD with diet and finger pricking and she also helped me raise my iron levels. The educational component that Chavah provides is unlike any other we received and we took many many classes. She is patient, answers all your questions and believe me I have a lot of them, and she just has a way of teaching that makes it enjoyable and easy to remember. When it came time to the birth we were hoping for a home birth, but knew with some of my aliments that a hospital transfer was highly likely. We did decided to transfer to the hospital early in my labor by choice not out of necessity because that just made the most sense for my case. I was in labor at the hospital for almost two days and Chavah was right by my side almost the entire time. She just went home once to get some rest when my Doula came and she knew I had the care I needed. Chavah was soooooo pivotal in my birth, as she saved me from a C-section by petitioned the doctor to allow me more time to dilate. She really impressed me as she stated facts to the doctor showing the doctor that both baby and I were doing perfectly fine and another hour was exactly what my body needed. She also ensured that I got the delayed cord clamping I wanted, even when the doctor tried multiple times to cut it early. Chavah literally held the placenta so that my baby could receive all his blood. Her postpartum care has been just as amazing as all her other care. The amount of times I have called Chavah crying and she has helped me through my struggles as a new mom are countless. She is so encouraging and supportive which is exactly what you need in this fragile postpartum state! Her support through the challenging breastfeeding experience is what has kept me going. And this week alone, she came over and we had a fun baby wearing class! Chavah's heart is so pure and her desire to help not only mamas but families was made so evident to us through our experience with her. When it comes time for out next baby, she will absolutely have to be part of our birth team! I highly recommend her to anyone who is pregnant, she will transform your pregnancy experience and your journey to motherhood.

Hello everyone! When thinking about a midwife or doula.... Well... you think about the mother... Well let me tell you... During labor the HUSBAND sometime needs a doula, a therapist, or an emotional support human! Let me tell you... Chavah was all of the above! We had a wonderful hospital birth at valley Presbyterian hospital and Chavah literally held me together with her love and nurturing nature! Thank you so much! I could not have done it without you! ‍‍‍

Chavah was absolutely amazing to have as a midwife and to deliver our third baby at the comfort of our home. My prior two births were done at a hospital, first through a c-section and the second a VBAC. Having all of our appointments at the comfort of our home made such a difference and Chavah even included our other children in our appointments to hear the baby and use the doppler. The birthing experience in the comfort of our bedroom with my husband and Chavah by my side was incredible and exceeded all expectations. I never thought I could have such a great birthing experience AND without any pain medicine or intervention! It was such a calm and peaceful birth which I didn't think was even possible before. I wouldn't do it any other way moving forward and 10/10 recommend using Chavah- Ask a Midwife for your next birth

My experience with Chavah was nothing short of amazing. From our first meeting, I knew that she was someone who would bring such a balanced approach to prenatal care and birth. There were a few instances where I was close to risking out of my home birth, but Chavah's suggestions helped me turn things around. She drew on her wealth of resources to give me the support I needed and empower me to take my health into my own hands. Beyond what I was experiencing physically, Chavah helped me prepare my mindset so that I was ready for postpartum - something I struggled with in my previous birth. My mind and body were ready to receive this baby and I consider that true holistic care. She gave me the type of support I needed so I could step up to the plate and be the mother that this baby needed. I'm here having a beautiful postpartum experience because of the support and encouragement I received. My mind is clear and I can completely fall in love with my baby. I feel so fortunate to have found Chavah and can't recommend her enough.

If you're considering hiring a doula or midwife for your birth, do not hesitate to reach out to Chavah!! We decided to have her as our doula for our first baby and it was the best decision we could've made for a number of reasons. Her knowledge coupled with her relaxing energy gave us the sense of ease that we needed going into the experience. On the night that I went into labor, I felt fully supported and taken care of. I didn't have a single worry in my mind and it was because Chavah was right there by our side. She came to my home and helped me labor, which put my husband at ease knowing I was in good hands through every contraction. She also timed our trip to the hospital perfectly. By the time I checked into triage, I was 8 cm dilated and ready for active labor. I attribute our timing of arrival as one of the main reasons I was able to give birth without an epidural, just as I had hoped. If not for Chavah, I would've gone to the hospital sooner and probably doubted my ability to deliver without medical intervention. 10000/10 recommend her to anyone interested in taking the doula/midwife route.

Having Chavah as my midwife was a dream!! Every aspect of my care from beginning to end was excellent. For my second pregnancy, I wanted a private midwife and hoped for a home birth. Hiring Chavah was the best decision! She came to my home for all appts and even included my toddler in the prenatal care. She would take her time while at my home, nothing was ever rushed. This left space for every question to be answered and for any underlying concerns to make their way to the surface so that she can provide truly individualized care. Outside of appts, I could get ahold of her directly and quickly if not immediately whenever necessary. I had to work through a ton of fear surrounding birth, and she was so kind, patient, and empathetic toward my fears and expertly guided me through them. One of the things I treasure about her most is her intuition. She is so good at weeding through the noise and seeing things for what they are. She also has a very special connection to the babies in the womb. I always knew I could trust her opinion. I'm so grateful to have been able to birth my baby at home. I had a rockstar birth team with Chavah in the lead. She was the perfect mix of guiding me when I was looking for direction, hands on support (literally!), and being a fly on the wall when necessary. Chavah has great regard for the sacred birth space and it shows, not to mention the outstanding expertise from her 20+ years of attending births. I had no fear about the safety of my baby or my own knowing that we were in her care. I had the most amazing, redemptive birth which was made possible with her support. My postpartum care was also excellent, which is such a gift as it seems this part of the care usually gets put on the back burner. She was so attentive and supportive, checking on me every day. And you can't beat those at home postpartum visits, what a life saver! I could go on and on but I'll stop here. Thank you so much Chavah

I had a great experience using Chavah as a midwife. She always made me feel supported and fully informed. She is experienced, knowledgeable, encouraging, and trustworthy. If your looking for a midwife , she's the one to go to

    Chavah weighing our new arrival!

We cannot express enough how grateful we are for the incredible support and care provided by Chavah throughout the pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum journey. From the moment we met Chavah, we knew we were in the best hands possible. Chavah offered invaluable guidance, answering all my questions with patience and expertise. Her calming presence and unwavering support helped ease the anxieties we had about childbirth. When it came time for labor and delivery, Chavah was an absolute rock. Her knowledge of comfort measures and techniques made a world of difference, helping my wife and I navigate each contraction with confidence. She provided unwavering support, both physically and emotionally, ensuring my wife felt empowered every step of the way while checking in on me as well. There was a period during the induction process where our baby started to have heart rate decelerations, and though the staff were great, Chavah advocated for moving to deliver our baby. Without her we would not necessarily know the urgency of the situation and how to nudge without demanding. She captured memories we will cherish forever through pictures and video. How do you put a price tag on something like that? She was also kind enough to drop off the placenta to our home, feed our cat and bring in the trash cans. When someone is willing to go the extra mile for you and do things not in the specific job description it makes a world of difference when you are trying to keep your head on straight through this process. Her support didn't end with childbirth. She continued to be a pillar of strength during the postpartum period, offering guidance on breastfeeding, newborn care, and emotional support as we adjusted to life with a newborn. Thanks to Chavah, we felt supported, empowered, and cared for every step of the way. We cannot recommend her services highly enough to any expectant parent (s). Chavah is truly exceptional in her field, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have her support during this precious time in our life. Thank you Chavah for everything you do!

I had all my prenatal care with Chavah and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. She is highly intuitive, caring, gentle, calm, and knowledgeable. I felt very safe with her and her judgement. She is a great communicator and always there when I needed her. My birth was perfect although my labor was long. She remained supportive and encouraging throughout the process. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a personable and experienced midwife/doula!

At our three week postpartum visit. Feeling so held and good! Thank you Chava for your beautiful presence, our family loves you!

For anyone considering hiring Chava as their provider, doula, midwife, or monitrice, 1000000% do it, you will be so glad you did. From our first phone conversation it was immediately apparent that we clicked. Living in the AV leaves a huge gap for home birth providers, so finding Chava felt like striking gold. She is knowledgeable, intuitive, caring, warm, and a lovely person to be around. The combination of her years of experience and her trusting her clients to make informed autonomous decisions, while giving non-coercive and fully transparent information, was exactly what we were looking for in our provider for our second home birth. She guided us through various exams like the blood sugar glucose test for GD, which was so insightful because now I know my body so much better, she gave us great advice on exercises to do in order to help baby flip head down (our first born was a breech home birth and we wanted to help baby #2 be able to flip), she was always available to answer questions and hear us out with any concerns or needs, always included our toddler at the visits, and was so present and focused with us each and every time. She offers real and true family centered care. It's so rare to find this and we are so grateful to her for meeting this need for us. At our labor/birth, she was such a steady and calm presence, I felt safe and supported with not only my husband and parents presence but also with hers. I'm a very private and introverted person when it comes to big intimate life moments like birth and usually want to be left alone, but Chava was with me every step of the way, helping hold me when the contractions started feeling unmanageable, doing counter pressure to relieve the discomfort, and reassuring me when I felt like I wouldn't be able to go on anymore from the intensity of labor. In the end through my most challenging labor so far, we had our baby girl at home just how we wanted, I saw her trust in me and my body and that along with my family's support helped me through the toughest parts of labor and birth. Thank you Chava for your time, care, and presence through such an important time in our lives. We hope to work together again in the future!

    Postpartum appointment

I'm so grateful that I found Chavah and was lucky enough to have her as my midwife. I started my pregnancy under the care of an OB, and my experience with Chavah has been like night and day.  She provides the kind of care women need and deserve. She's gone above and beyond the role of midwife, continuously making sure I have the support and resources I've needed during pregnancy and postpartum. Our prenatal visits were not only thorough and informative, but truly enjoyable. We looked forward to each visit! I was so well prepared for each stage of pregnancy, birth and postpartum thanks to her care and wealth of knowledge. Her calming and loving presence helped me during a difficult labor - I've honestly never felt more supported and cared for. I can't recommend Chavah enough, working with her is one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Oh man! Words can't describe how I feel about Chavah! My husband and I originally hired her as our doula, as we knew we still wanted to give birth at a hospital, but wanted to avoid as many interventions as possible--and we are so, so thankful we found her!! My husband and I went back and forth on whether or not to hire a doula, and both of us are so glad we did now. I knew I could trust everything Chavah shared because of her almost 30 years of expertise and the fact that she's a midwife as well, which is rare to find both!! My husband is an LA County Firefighter/Paramedic, and immediately upon having our first consult with Chavah, he knew she was legitimate and a true professional. Even throughout our hospital stay during labor, Chavah was sharing labor and delivery facts with the younger, more inexperienced nurses, and you could tell how impressed they were! Chavah was available all of the time and constantly checked in with me throughout my pregnancy AND postpartum!!! Man, I've used her more postpartum than I feel like I did while pregnant! Haha! During labor, my mom was so impressed with her (as my mom wasn't really familiar with what a doula was prior) that she paid for a postpartum session from Chavah as a gift to us, post-labor. And that visit was invaluable. Chavah is extremely knowledgeable, professional, kind, warm, attentive, and worth every penny. I also appreciated that there were times throughout my pregnancy that Chavah went into midwife-mode to help me, when she didn't necessarily have to as we only hired her as a doula. Lastly, I love how balanced Chavah is. There is no pressure to do one thing or another. She throughly educates you on the pros and cons of each decision you'd need to make regarding your birth experience, and allows you to make the call judgment-free. Such a relief compared to the western medicine model. All in all, we 100% recommend Chavah to anyone looking to hire a doula or a midwife. You will get somebody with DECADES of experience, which is priceless, and you won't regret it!!!

My heart is so full of gratitude for Chavah for everything she's been for me since we started our prenatal visits and until right now . She has been my care provider, my friend, my listener and my guide I feel blessed I had the opportunity to have my baby with her by my side . The support and understanding and the amazing energy she brings into the room is incredible. She's not only very professional but she's also so passionate about birth You can tell she loves everything about it So to have another person in the room not just doing "he's job" but really exited to bring life into this world in the same level like us was so much more than I could ask for. Thank you Chavah for the amazing experience and for bringing baby Naya into this world safe and sound we appreciate you so much

I came across this birth center very unexpectedly, and I truly believe God wanted me to be in the care of Jordan and Stephanie. During my first pregnancy, we took a class at Pure Birth near the end of my pregnancy and loved everything we learned--especially the importance of avoiding an epidural for both the mother and the baby. However, at the time, I didn't feel ready to have an unmedicated birth, so we chose a hospital birth for our first daughter. When I found out I was pregnant with our second, I knew deep down that I wanted the least amount of intervention possible--for both myself and my baby. I called what I thought was Pure Birth, and to my surprise, it was SCV birth center. Trusting that God always knows best, I followed that path, and I can honestly say He did not disappoint like always The center itself is smaller, which immediately made me feel safe, confident, and truly at home. Stephanie and Jordan are incredibly kind, compassionate, and knowledgeable. They take the time to truly listen, to reassure you whenever needed, and to explain everything with such clarity and care. Every appointment felt easy, personal, and completely stress-free. The birth itself was absolutely perfect--I could honestly write an entirely separate review just about that experience alone. I cannot thank these two women enough for everything they did for me and my family. I wholeheartedly recommend SCV birth center to anyone seeking an unmedicated, empowering, and deeply supported birth experience.

When you find women in birth work that are aligned with their life purpose you find an amazing environment. Renee and Andrea take the time to educate you! They allow you to make informed decisions without judgement or coercion. They even helped me find a birthing class and helped us find a fitting pediatrician. I plan on having more kids and I can't imagine giving birth any where else. One of my favorite memories, after delivering my daughter you come back for an appointment close to your 1 week mark. Ours happened to be day 4. They taught me how to sideline breastfeed. What a game changer!!! As a first time mom, I was incredibly grateful for the guidance. They actually took me to one of the delivery rooms and allowed me to nurse and practice in real time so I could ask questions. I know so many women who quit breastfeeding because no one took the time to give them the basics, encourage them or just let them understand that there would be moments it hurts but to hang in there. If you are debating on where to start your prenatal care, you are already in the right place, make the call! Trust me, one of the best decisions of my life! -Latoya Lyn & Baby Violet

From my very first prenatal appointment through postpartum care, every midwife made me feel heard, respected, and genuinely cared for. As a first time mom, I had countless questions, and this team always answered them with patience, kindness, and without judgment. A special thank you to Midwife Angela, who delivered our son. Throughout my labor, she demonstrated an incredible balance of clinical skill, calm confidence, and compassion. When I became dehydrated and experienced cervical swelling that was actually working against dilation, she carefully monitored both me and my baby and allowed us the time and space we needed at the birth center rather than rushing interventions. She diligently checked our baby's heart rate throughout labor and remained calm and reassuring every step of the way. When it came time to push, there was a moment when our baby's heart rate dropped significantly. Angela calmly encouraged me to give one strong push, and with that push, our son entered the world safely. It's a moment I'll never forget, and I'm incredibly grateful for her guidance and expertise. After delivery, I needed stitches for a tear, and Angela repaired them with such care and gentleness. Even during one of the most physically demanding experiences of my life, she managed to keep the atmosphere light with her wonderful sense of humor, which helped me more than she probably realizes. I'm also so thankful for Midwife Tiffany, who came during the hardest part of my labor to offer encouragement and then to welcome our baby into the world. Her support meant so much during those moments. This entire midwife team provided so much more than medical care - they offered reassurance, tender hands, respect for my choices, and unwavering support throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. They helped make my first birth experience one that I will always look back on with gratitude. Thank you for helping us safely welcome our beautiful baby boy into the world. After…read moresome research, I found that there weren't any classes locally offered to new moms, other than at Henry Mayo Hospital. And of course, their classes were only offered once a month. Unfortunately, they didn't work with my schedule. My main concern being a new mom was breastfeeding. I went online and tried finding a doula who would offer me a private class. Alas, I found Cali. What immediately impressed me was how quick she responded to my intro email. She was open to come over to my house, teach me the basics about breastfeeding and offer her advice postpartum. Cali was helpful, professional, and caring. Having my first baby with Cali's support made the experience that much better. So glad I found Cali!

It wasn't long until we felt very overwhelmed by all the decisions and challenges that faced us. One of our friends recommended that we hire a doula to help us with the process... and so the search began. We met with a few different doulas, however as soon as we met Cali, we knew she was the perfect fit for our growing family. We felt very comfortable with her, she was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions, and her beliefs aligned with ours about the ideal birth. In addition, she offered us private parenting classes since our schedules were always conflicting with the hospital's classes we were interested in taking. In all of our meetings before the birth, Cali came prepared and ready to work. However, I always felt like I was meeting with a good friend. When my water broke 1 month early, Cali dropped everything to be at my side (even though it was her birthday!!) She even came to our house first to help pack for the hospital, keep me calm until my husband got home from work, and even installed our car seat (since we were so unprepared for such an early arrival!) I was a little unsure that I was going to be able to follow the birth plan we had put together, to keep things all natural, with no medical intervention, but with Cali's help, I was! She was calm and encouraging through my entire labor, and provided support for my husband as he coached me through a successful, all natural birth. We could not be more grateful. After the birth, Cali constantly checked in on us, and offered advice and help when we were having some difficulties with breast-feeding during her postpartum visit. We are so thankful that we can look back on our labor in a positive light, and we have Cali to thank for that. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a Doula.

We were in their care for our first pregnancy and they made us feel so much care and love throughout. I loved having a personal connection with them. We really enjoyed every appointment and I'm really sad we have "graduated" out of care and moving on to our pediatrician/family doctor. A few things that stood out and I particularly appreciated about their practice: 1. Their office is small and cozy and a few minutes from our home. 2. Labs were ran through an in network provider, so I didn't have to pay out of pocket. Even though they are not in-network with anyone. Also results always came back super fast. 3. They have referrals for just about everything related to pregnancy and postpartum and some in-network providers. 4. Most appts are an hour long and they are extremely responsive/communication is always top tear. 5. They are also lactation specialist, so no need to hire someone else if you need help or have questions once baby is born. 6. They are a great balance of holistic/western medicine and have a great relationship with Ventura County Medical if you need to go to the hospital for any reason at any time during your pregnancy, delivery or postpartum. 7. They are super down to earth, funny and relatable! We will def. be reaching out again for future pregnancies! Love them!

We left each prenatal visit excited and without worry. They are both so knowledgeable and have great energy. My birth experience was so special. They came to my house early morning and by early afternoon my son was in my arms. Maggie coached me through contractions on the phone allowing me to relax until they arrived. Once they arrived at my home, they set up quietly and quickly making sure not to disturb me. Throughout my labor, they massaged my back with essential oils and made sure I stayed hydrated and energized with water, juice, and snacks. They encouraged me as I pushed and helped move me into different positions when things got tough for me. When my boy was born, they handed him directly to me for skin-to-skin. Within the first two weeks after the birth of my son, Maggie and Andrea helped educate us on tongue ties(while still recommending we do our additional research). They referred us to a specialist who successfully cut our son's ties(tongue and lip). We saw Andrea and Maggie shortly after and they were able to demonstrate how to properly stretch the wounds. At about 5 weeks postpartum, I went to the emergency room for pain and ended up getting surgery to remove my gallbladder. While I was in the hospital my son ran out of breast milk. My husband reached out to our midwives and they were able to help us get donor milk. Once I was released, I noticed a dip in my milk supply and they saw us for two additional visits to help me increase my supply and then to confirm our baby was transferring enough milk. Andrea and Maggie are wonderful midwives with so much knowledge. They truly care about the families in their care, not just the moms and babies but the dads too. I am so lucky I found them and would never do a birth with anyone else. If you or someone you know needs quality people on their care team, Andrea and Maggie are the best.

Dr. Navi is an exceptional physician who combines knowledge, professionalism, and compassion in a way that immediately puts you at ease. Throughout my pregnancy, he took the time to listen to my concerns, answer every question, and ensure that both my baby and I received the best possible care. During some stressful moments, his calm demeanor and expertise gave me confidence and reassurance when I needed it most. I also want to give special recognition to Sonia and Brittney at the front desk. They are absolutely amazing. Every phone call, appointment, and interaction was met with kindness, patience, and genuine care. They always made me feel welcome and were incredibly helpful with scheduling, paperwork, and any questions I had along the way. Their warmth and professionalism made such a difference during my pregnancy journey. What sets this office apart is that everyone truly cares. I never felt like just another patient. I felt heard, respected, and supported every step of the way. Bringing my daughter into the world was one of the most important moments of my life, and I am so thankful that Dr. Navi and his team were part of that journey. If you are looking for an OBGYN who is compassionate, knowledgeable, and surrounded by an outstanding team, I cannot recommend Dr. Navi highly enough. Thank you, Dr. Navi, Sonia, Brittney, and the entire staff for helping make my pregnancy and delivery experience such a positive and memorable one. You will always hold a special place in my heart.

I showed up for my app 10-12 min early and after being asked for my driver's license and insurance…read morecard, was presented with about 6 sheets of forms - all standard and expected - except for one: The "Credit Card Authorization" form asked for my credit card info for them to keep on file and charge as they saw fit. I handed the forms back to the lady, was called back, and told the "credit card authorization" form was required to be completed. I explained I was well insured and had completed all of the other forms and those specific to "responsible party" and was uncomfortable writing my credit card number down on a sheet of paper for them to KEEP on file. The lady next to Brittany said that "this was required and their practice's policy." I explained why I was not comfortable with this policy and this was the first time it was brought to my attention, and if this was their practice's policy, they should inform patients and before they are standing at the front desk - waiting to be seen - in a room full of people. Brittany went to go speak w/ the "Billing" person, came back and said "sorry, they will not make an exception." Mind you, there is no issue for me to pay a co-pay in person with cash or a card or debit card, but to hand write my credit card number down on a piece of paper and have it "stored" on file is not normal. I expressed my disbelief that I had waited for this appt and now they would not see me unless I wrote down my credit card info - on a piece of paper - for them. So, I left. I was now, in my car, in the parking lot, and was going to go back inside and insist to speak w/ the "billing" person. Not wanting to make a scene - I was literally in tears at this point - I called and spoke with Brittany. She said the "billing person was Sabrina" (who - of course - is on the phone with an insurance co. her to have Sabrina phone me - because this was a really, really bad experience. First, for most women - a gyno appt is very personal, intimate, and invasive. For many - this type of appt can cause anxiety and distress. As a person with PTSD, I fall into both categories, and had to mentally prep myself for this appt., at this new facility, with people I had never met before and have them look up my privates. Yet, I was prepared, got there early, completed their paperwork, and did everything as asked, except provide personal financial info - my credit card - on a piece of paper. After all - what is the purpose of insurance - in my case - we are blessed to have the best of the best insurance - Motion Picture Anthem Blue Cross - and in addition to standard "person with financial responsibility" forms - in this case, it was me - this office REQUIRES you to give them your credit card and authorize them to charge it at their discretion. That is NOT standard practice. I have seen doctors in and outside the UCLA/Anthem Blue Cross/Motion Picture System, and never once been asked to leave my credit card number on file. And if this is something this practice REQUIRES, in order for a person to be seen, they should advise and disclose this to the person BEFORE they have waited weeks for an appt and are standing at the desk. I began to home when Brittany called back asking if I had left the parking lot yet (I said "yes") then she said she had talked with Sabrina and "she had made an exception for me and would like me to return for my appt and be seen today." Huh? I am truly in shock at this point. Seriously? I told her, "no." I do not feel comfortable nor safe now." She - Brittany - was very nice, but I made it clear that I was not going to return and was going to let my doctor know about this - "requirement" - and how it's sprung on you at the desk and that despite having proof of being well-insured with the best insurance one can have, it came down to give-us-your-credit-card-and auth to charge it at will or-you-wont-be-seen. I got home, decided to call the facility back and went through phone prompts. #4 was for "Billing." It's funny that when pressing #4, the recording said "This extension no longer exists." I am not expecting to receive a call back from Sabrina or Dr. Navi Navizadeh who is supposed to be the practice's owner and doctor. If this practice specializes as a "walk in clinic" and demands payment or access to my personal credit card before being seen - it's not the place for me and most people. Other people, I see, now, have written negative yelp reviewers about improper billing and difficulty with getting issues with the "Billing" person at this place resolved. Giving any doctor or authorization to go ahead and charge - at their whim - your card - for any amount and at any time - is very concerning. Because oftentimes, we see a doctor, get a bill a few weeks later, then a few weeks after that, we get an "EOB" - Explanation of Benefits - which comes straight from our insurance co and often shows a "balance due" of "0" or far less than the bill. That's what we owe. NOT what Dr. Navi bills for

In a nutshell; Elena Khatibi is not the most well-known midwife in our community but I think she…read moredeserves to be. She is incredibly professional, experienced and knowledgeable. Everyone she works with is of the same caliber and if you are looking for a home-birth midwife in Santa Clarita or nearby, I cannot reccomend her more highly. Please contact me if you want to know more about my experience, but better yet, just call her and ask for recommendations and she will happily provide them. Elena actually invited me to lunch with her, her daughter and a client of hers who was having a third baby with Elena's assistance. I decided to go and meet her and she had a lot of humility, she was not trying to sell me her services, but she let her client tell me about her experiences with her. Her client told me Elena was probably THE most experienced midwife in our community (though perhaps not the most well known). She told me Elena was a licensed physician in Mexico, so she brought that comprehensive background of medical knowledge to her midwifery practice. She could handle situations that might arise in a home-birth that other local midwives would need to transfer over. She could also perform procedures at a home birth that other midwives would usually be uncomfortable with. Part of why I was confident in choosing Elena was that her other client had already had two babies with her and she was having a third with Elena! She also explained that she'd had a child with another midwife but she wished she'd been able to do it with Elena (Elena had been out of the country when she got pregnant). Elena came to my home for my prenatal visits and of course, she did all the same things the OB had been doing to ensure that I was healthy, and the baby was healthy and low risk, so we could continue toward having our home birth. She reviewed my medical record which I obtained from my OB (who I'd been seeing for prenatal visits until about halfway through my pregnancy). When she would visit she'd check my urine, my heartbeat and the baby's. She'd measure my belly and check the position of the baby (which the OB I saw never did). She had the equipment to do a non-stress test if necessary but I never needed it. She discussed the stages of labor and did as much preparation with me as she could (I had 6 prenatal visits with her). She was thorough and careful and I have to say I was much more comfortable having exams in my bedroom at home than on a table with stirrups at the Obstetricians office! She predicted I'd go one or two weeks past my estimated due date (and she was exactly right). Elena has student-midwives who assist her when she's "catching" babies. Elena monitored both myself and the baby throughout. My labor "stalled" four hours before the baby was born. When we figured out I'd stalled, the doula/student midwife who was going to assist Elena arrived and helped me get through to 10 cm dilated and I began pushing. Everyone who I met, who worked with Elena, was knowledgeable and AMAZING; this doula was no exception (look for a review of Enlightened Birth Service, which I will do soon). Toward the end of my pushing was when I was really grateful for Elena's ability and experience because the baby had the cord around her neck and when she realized I'd been pushing and pushing, but the cord was counteracting all my hard work - she decided that , along with other factors, like my swelling cervix, meant I'd need an episiotomy to help me deliver the baby without a transfer to the hospital. She quickly did the cuts when I was pushing through a contraction - and I didn't even know she'd done it until later! She acted with a great deal of wisdom and prevented a transfer to the hospital because of her ability to handle situations like this, that other midwives wouldn't feel comfortable with. Again, I cannot more highly recommend Elena Khatibi, LM. She should be more well known in our community as an example of excellence in midwifery, I will work with her again when I have another baby without any hesitation.

The days leading up to the labor didn't make me realize how great Elena...but once labor started, we felt that having Elena as our Midwife (and not anyone other certified Midwife) was a major blessing to our goal of a natural birth. Any other MIdwife hired to help us would have sent us to a doctor due to my girlfriends complications...but not Elena because... Elena was a Doctor in Mexico. Our baby was posterior & tilted. Elena was able to fix the tilt during contractions & fix the posterior position of the baby to the correct position during the pushing stages of birth. Elena also had to make a slit in the vaginal wall due to the baby being too big, and was able to sow her up afterwards, allowing us no visits to the hospital until we were ready to sign up with an Obstetrician. If we have another child again, we would not hire any other Midwife...we would not feel as safe as having Elena Khatibi as our Midwife due to her Midwife license/knowledge & due to her Doctor's experience & license from Mexico. Her assistant, Claudia (Enlightened Birth and Doula Services on yelp) was our Doula who referred us to Elena...Claudia was an equally amazing Doula & assistant.

I wanted to feel supported and try for a VBAC for my second birth so I decided to work with Andrey for the birth of our daughter. Everything went good at the beginning, we had our in person interview, shortly after that meeting we decided we would be a fit for each other. After that she came over one more time and afterwards she told me she had a family oversees she was working with and would be available via phone/zoom and if needed to she would introduce me to a back up doula incase she wasn't back in time for my birth. The way she introduced us was thru text (no phone call or even an effort to do a zoom call so me and that back up doula could meet each other) no professionalism. My prenatal care was very limited nothing close to what Andrey promotes. Then I asked for a list of what to bring in my birth bag, she said she would send, I had to ask about 4 times until she sent and the reason I didn't get it was because she had sent it to a 'Victoria' how do you forget your clients name especially when you are a part of one of the most vulnerable times in their life. Fast forward to my birth Andrey ended up not being there. I ended up working with the back up doula & my first time meeting her and talking to her was her walking in my room while I laid in my bed clothe-less in pain as I was going thru my contractions (not the most ideal setting to meet someone for the first time who is going to be a part of a raw and emotional intimate time) a few days later Andrey lets me know shes back in LA and is coming to see me & baby to help with postpartum care. Then texts me cancelling because her car is in the shop (She could've taken an Uber) and cannot make it and she can come another day. She comes over a couple days after that for a few hours and tells me she will be back @10am the next day to help us some more. The next morning @9:35am she txts me she cannot make it and isn't available until the following week. I had cancelled help from my sitter to help with my newborn and toddler and my husband had left to work because we had relied on having help from Andrey that morning. At that point I was feeling extremely upset. The care and support I was expecting which Andrey advocates heavily on was nowhere close to what I was given. What was supposed to be a time in my life where I should've been given unwavering love and support turned into a time of grief and sadness for me. I decided to have a conversation with Andrey and let her know how I was feeling and I no longer felt comfortable working together. She apologized and told me I was a client that 'fell thru the cracks.' Simply she overcommitted and I was put in the back burner or was her last option sadly. She offered to bring some postpartum stuff to help with grief and overall just to help me emotionally and would drop it off in the next couple days, she never did. As I mentioned, this was my 3rd homebirth-- which means I had 2 other children to think about during this past pregnancy and lugging them around to prenatal appointments was not on my wish list. That was one reason Rachel was our *perfect* midwife. She not only delivered our baby in our home but all of my prenatals and blood work were done in my home too!! It was so incredibly convenient and my husband loved that we could schedule them on the weekend so that he didn't have to miss anything. Now, more about Rachel.... Rachel has such a calm, sweet energy. She is probably one of the most patient and soft spoken people I have ever met! At every appointment I really felt listened to and she took the time to answer all of my questions. When it came time to actually deliver our little girl, Rachel had given us the birth pool a couple weeks prior so, my husband set it up in our bedroom. Rachel and her assistant arrived promptly after an hour or so of texting her about the length and frequency of my contractions. My daughter was born about 45 minutes or so after Rachel arrived. It was such a relaxing (yes relaxing!), laid back, and beautiful experience. There's something about floating in a birthing pool that makes it incredibly less intense. - I felt my water break while I was in the pool (Rachel by my side outside the pool), and then I felt the urge to push and my daughter came right out. Rachel put a towel on her as I pulled her up to my chest. It was so quick and calm. Then we moved to the bed and Rachel and her assistant cleaned up everything and made us as comfortable as could be. After the birth all the postpartum visits were at my house too! Which was amaaazing because who wants to take their newborn out for check ups those first few weeks?! Hands down it was the BEST home birthing experience I've had and we will definitely be hiring her when we're expecting again. The midwifery model of care is just so much more preferable to me and it was really awesome to be able to hear my baby's heartbeat for the first time in my own home with my husband. All of our prenatal appointments were at home, and any lab work that she couldn't do herself, I'd go to PAL and get it taken care of. She was so helpful and knowledgeable and anything she didnt know she would research and get back to us at/before our next appointment. I always felt like Rachel genuinely cared about us and our baby and my health. Our birth was everything I wanted as well. She was involved when necessary but hands off and let me do what I needed to do without being overbearing. I ended up having a small issue after the birth and she went with us to the hospital for several hours after she had been up for 2 days with just a little nap in between. She was amazing and we hope she will still be in town when we give our son some siblings!
