Looked up sandwich shops near the port in Key West and this one popped up. It had great reviews, so we decided to give it a try. It's a small place, but there is a few seats inside and outside. We ordered the Balboa and pasta salad. Service was great and the sandwich came out fast. This sandwich was one of the best I have ever had. Nothing we have had in Key West can compare as of yet. Unassuming place with great sandwiches! I modified the Cowboy slightly and it couldn't have been better. Turkey was moist, fixings were plentiful and bread was just right. It's a healthy amount of food so I had intended to take half back to my room for "later" and ate the whole thing in one sitting. Friendly folks with a nice place to sit and people watch. Boars head meats, great bread, pasta salad is light and tasty, Cole slaw is good and has an old New York deli feel to it. Holy hell, so glad I asked my bride to look for something different today. We typically head straight to Waterfront and walk past this gem. I thought I knew what a quality grinder was until today. This place is amazing. Don't be afraid of it's proximity to the pier, its local mom and pop through and through. We had the Balboa and couldn't be happier. One sub easily feeds two! When I travel, I try to find the best grinder. After much research and the fact they have homemade cupcakes, Little Whitehouse Subs was the one to try. Took the recommendations from the other reviewers and got the Balboa with pasta salad. One of the very best Italian grinders I have had. They have earned the 5-star rating. If you don't make an effort to give this place a try, it will be your loss. Highly recommend! As far as ambience, if you were to stay and it, there is indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is fun and the sandwich flavor and meat combos they offer are really well thought out. For me the big test is the veggie option. There's a lot you can do with meat as the centerpiece but what happens without it? "The Candlestick Maker" is my all time favorite sandwich. Stopped here again 2 years later and it did not disappoint! Service was great and sandwiches were terrific again! I love the Sub Dressing! I feel like this sandwich shop is a hidden gem. It's at the end of Whitehead St., upstairs in a little mall just before Front St. The staff is really friendly & the sandwiches are really good. Was expecting a lot more from this place with previous amazing reviews! The pick up process was easy but very disappointed in my sandwich. I got the turkey Reuben and the bread was so soggy. Overall the sandwich was a big pile of mush but the flavor was there. My family tried a couple of their turkey subs and those were solid but nothing extraordinary. We were visiting Key West and I saw this place. I don't eat seafood and it was slim pickings as far as food in restaurants. The owner helped us and the sandwiches (I got The Balboa) were honestly the best subs we have ever had. Owner was great too. A lot of the restaurants we went to had sub par customer service. Small business owner for that shop. They were very friendly and happy to take care of us. Figured we would stop in before boarding the Key West Ferry back to Fort Myers. All the rave reviews brought us here and none of us were disappointed. These were 2 halves from 2 different sandwiches. Since we wouldn't be eating for a while I skipped the lettuce and tomato. These sandwiches were well crafted with plenty of flavor and meats. Split the two halves up over 3 hours since they were quite filling. This is really a special gem in Key West. I was looking for a quick bite during the Songwriter's Fest, and saw this place was well-reviewed. Went for the Islander (ordered online, very easy experience) and it was incredible. Was passing it around to my group while we were watching the music and everyone was floored with the composition of the sandwich and how good the bread is (allegedly they fly it out a few times a week from a special bakery in Atlantic City). The following day, went in again before having to fly out and my fiance and I split an islander again (but subbed the turkey for chicken). Got to chat with the guys a bit since we got there at opening and they gave us a cupcake as well (they make different flavors daily). Really great people, amazing food, and unreal bread. To my Floridian friends, these rival Publix subs and dare I say may surpass them? *gasp* I decided on 'The Indian' which had turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and cranberry drizzle.
