We had a mediocre experience at Harpoon Harry's at lunchtime today. When we arrived we were greeted quickly and we asked to be seated. The girl at the counter asked if we minded sitting at the counter which we agreed to. Shortly after being seated we noticed a table being cleared and asked if we could move to the table. The waitress we asked said that would be fine, but another who was cleaning the table at the time said she wasn't done yet. Then she rudely confronted us about waiting to check to see if they had anyone on a list to be seated. It then took about 15 minutes for someone to come take our order. The waitress who finally took our order was taciturn at best, barely speaking to us. I asked for cheese on my bacon, egg, lettuce, and tomato breakfast sandwich. She suggested cheddar which I eagerly agreed to. I also asked to have cheddar cheese on my grits. My partner asked for a poached egg and corned beef hash. She asked that the whites were not runny at all and the waitress seemed to scoff at her. When the food finally arrived everything looked great, but my sandwich had Swiss cheese on it and the grits had American. Though it was very tasty. My partners food came out perfectly. Island vibe casual restaurant and pretty good food. Not on the water so no ocean views. Less inside seating than we expected; ended up sitting at the bar, which wasn't all that great with the wait staff standing right in front of us most of the time. They do have a couple of small outside tables. The burgers were good, but not great. Seemed like pre-made packaged burger patties to me. The onion rings and fries were pretty tasty. The staff were friendly and conversational. Note that it's a cash-only restaurant (no credit cards), but there is an ATM at the front door. A little pricy for what you get, but what isn't pricy in Key West. read more

This is a regular stop when I am in Key West. The breakfast is large and good quality. The restaurant is always packed and there is a wait for seating. The decor is fun with tongue in cheek signs that make it fun. I always encourage friends to try out Harry Harpoons. read more

Stumbled on this place for lunch. It's a cash only place. I did a search online for GF and they had good reviews but that was not my experience. There is nothing marked on the menu and the server was not knowledgeable. She said just order whatever you think is GF. I'm celiac and cannot just order whatever I think is good for me. I asked if she could ask the kitchen if the fries were GF and she said she was busy and would need to check later. She came back and said they were GF. We were seated right away with a quaint little atmosphere. Everybody was super friendly. We had breakfast. My husband had the Key lime pie stuffed French toast, which was decadent. And I had a breakfast that included pecan French toast, eggs, bacon, and we split a sausage gravy and biscuit. It was way too much food, but it was all delicious. Highly recommend. read more

This was our first time visiting this location in September. The restaurant is small but the people are nice and welcoming. We put our name on the list and had a bit of a wait so we hung around outside and walked around the docks to check out the keys. It's been soooo long since I been downtown near the docks in the keys. Growing up we always walked duval street but never went all the way to the end. The food was great and the menu has choices. We were doing breakfast and everything was good. I like the wait staff and the food, But the management leaves a lot to be desired. I have a service animal, a very well trained, but large German Shepherd. I have eaten there a few times but, unlike so much of Key West, always felt a little unwelcome at the management level (front desk). This morning, when for the third day in a row, I politely presented the empty water bowls for filling, I was met with a grim "are you coming in", as if to say, we are not obligated to water your dog if you are not a paying customer, or, we really don't want you coming in. To make sure I was not reading into anything, I mentioned a customers negative attitude from the day before. He said, "some people just do not like dogs and hair all over everything". I don't think the welcome mat was rolled out. I would suggest that people with dogs or people that like dogs avoid Harpoon Harry's. It's pretty inhospitable. We stopped for breakfast and enjoyed looking at the displays on the walls while we waited for our food. Unfortunately the food wasn't as great as we had anticipated. I had eggs, home fries, and rye toast. Everything tasted fairly bland. I had to toss on salt & pepper to add some flavor. My wife ordered the key lime pie stuffed french toast topped with fresh fruit. What a great combo! The warm key lime pie was delicious, but the french toast was underwhelming. Two thin slices of toast in a non-descript batter. The meal had such potential but didn't live up to expectations. The server was pleasant and seemed to enjoy her job.
