If I can give this office a zero I would. I was going to this office for some time and the front desk staff is not professional, rude and obnoxious. SESS in particular. I don't understand how owners have people of that mindset work in their office and don't see this happening. Education has a lot to do with it but that's a different subject. Maybe the owner wants to look the other way. I called to get some information and was hung up on by SESS. It doesn't take much to be nice and polite. If I were you stay away from this office. Had my annual check up this morning. Every year it is better. Always the latest state of the art test equipment operated by friendly well trained technicians. Dr. Liva has been my opthomologist for over 20 years. For insurance issues back several years I was forced to see other opthomologists. None of there operations compare to the Liva Eye Center. Previous Eye Dr. was unsatisfactory. Asked a Dr. friend who knew the field. Was given only one name to go to, and wife and I have been happy with him for many years now. He did wife's two cataracts. Dr Liva has equipment others don't have. Ask intelligent questions and after all the years in practice it is so obvious he loves what he does and enjoys sharing his knowledge with you. Have met retired people in the office who travel from many states away and come there for their checkups. My parents had utilized this practice for many years. Recently I went, as a new patient, to see Dr. Liva. I found everything about the experience to be excellent. I hadn't had an exam in many years. It's a beautiful office, up to date equipment and a sharp staff. I also brought in a family member for an exam a couple of weeks later. All went well with that visit too! I was surprised at the amount of time the staff and the doctor spent with me and my family member. Dr. Liva is very friendly and down to earth which seems to set the standard for the office. He also sees emergencies the same day. It's so difficult to find a good practice for care these days so I'm delighted to have tried Dr. Liva for my needs. Dr. Liva is an amazing doctor! I had PKR corrective surgery in August, about two months ago. Dr. Liva was extremely patient and thorough in explaining to me the different options, their side affects, and very rare but possible risks. He and his staff made me feel so comfortable. I was originally apprehensive about getting the surgery until I came to Dr. Liva. I felt so at ease. Booking the procedure itself was really easy and his staff were so helpful in asking any questions I had leading up to the surgery. After just one month at my follow up appointment I was told my vision was better than 20/20, which is better than before with contact lenses. Three years ago a good friend of mine convinced me to get Lasik and recommended Dr. Liva. I got the procedure done right before my first trip to China on business. I was in China Sea in 2020 feeling great after two weeks. Three years later my vision steadily improved to 2015 in both eyes. I went from being legally blind to have the vision of a fighter pilot. Dr Liva was great throughout the whole process and his team was fantastic. I highly recommend this place. And I just found out he's a Harvard grad to boot. When I entered, none of the staff were wearing masks. Last time I checked, this was still a medical practice. Next the assistant performed the initial tests on my vision while SCROLLING ON HER CELL PHONE THE ENTIRE TIME. Extremely unprofessional. Next I was guided to the exam room to wait for the Dr. There were no other patients in the building while I was there. I could hear the Dr. on the phone in his office. He was discussing his snowmobile and trailer for 10 minutes - thus keeping me, his patient, waiting. Then enters the exam room without a mask. Proclaiming he already had Covid and has natural immunity. Then proceeds to go on a lengthy monologue of how natural immunity is better than any vaccine and how other countries are recognizing this and why are local institutions requiring vaccination. Extremely unprofessional. I will NEVER return and caution others as well. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Liva's going on twelve years. Dr. Liva is as clinically thorough, professionally knowledgeable, and intensely conscientious an ophthalmologist as you will find anywhere. He continually re-equips his Eye Center with the most advanced technology and computer programs/systems, enabling charted tracking of the progression of any worrisome parameter. Dr. Liva spends as much time as is needed with each person and, when warranted, will proactively engage in an educative discussion and answer questions. He has been assiduous in the management of the after-effects of my major eye trauma five years ago, closely and carefully monitoring and tweaking medication. His office is run with impressive efficiency. For eyeglasses, there is a seamless, onsite connection with Irene Sisco, an experienced optician. A single prior entry here in Yelp projects a grossly distorted and compassionless picture of Dr. Liva, saying nothing about his clinical competence or his value as a caretaker of one's eyes but focusing only on the time variable. Honestly, I can count on being called from the waiting room either on time or shortly thereafter. But remember: Dr. Liva's is a medical practice! Things happen! Once patients are back in the clinic area, Dr. Liva moves back and forth from patient to patient, as eyes wait to be dilated by drops, for instance, or as different tests are performed by staff. This part of the visit is unpredictable not only for the patient but for Dr. Liva, who cannot foresee what the needs of any patient will be on a given day, how long it will take to address those needs, or what emergency treatment or evaluation may have to be given that was not anticipated. I was once in the Liva Eye Center when - unbeknownst to many waiting patients - another patient was having a cardiac event and Dr. Liva and staff were waiting for an ambulance to arrive. I am sure there were delays in scheduled appointments. On the morning of my eye trauma, Dr. Liva was so kind and conscientious to come to the Valley ER. In terms of trust levels, both my wife and I frankly wanted no other ophthalmologist to be evaluating my trauma and suturing around my eye socket. I have to presume that his caring for my trauma created some havoc with patient scheduling and inconvenienced some people. But events like these two are not Dr. Liva's fault. But his office is managed extraordinarily well and efficiently in spite of its intrinsic nature. I made a very educated choice back in 2004 to make Dr. Liva the caretaker of my problematic eyes. I don't write many reviews and I'm not an employee or relative. I just know how hard it is to find a good doctor. Dr. Liva is a true professional and a master of his craft. I had PRK corrective surgery about 17 months ago and it changed my life. Since my eyes are super important, I spent tons of time researching and meeting with doctors on corrective vision surgery. The staff is always nice and friendly. Feels like family sometimes. My vision is now 20/15. Surgery went just as Dr. Liva said, and I couldn't have been happier with my choice. I'm glad he takes the time to answer my questions and I never feel rushed. Couldn't recommend more. I went for Refraction and the O.D. was unable to get the correct prescription. The O.D. proceeded to examine my eyes as an ophthalmologist would. When asked if the O.D. was an ophthalmologist, the O.D. became defensive and I was informed, ''I have been doing this for 20 years...." I merely wanted to find out if an O.D. can perform ophthalmic examinations which, I thought only an ophthalmologist can do. Furthermore, if you want the staff to be condescending to you, don't ask them any questions. Overall I did not get glasses, and would, most likely, never go there again. I seems that physician's staff everywhere can treat the patient/consumer with disdain and then complain that you are being difficult. I believe these people forget who is the customer and who if providing the service. read more
