I became a vegetarian over 16 years ago partly for religious reasons but also in an attempt to avoid the diabetes, high cholesterol, and hypertension that plagues my family. Working with Lisa has been life changing. I have struggled with weight loss and binge eating pretty much my whole life. Lisa Jubilee, nutritionist is my best friend. She knew I was struggling with losing the last 5 'holiday lbs" and she suggested I try her very own, self-created, 7 day 'JK Cleanse'. Lisa mentioned weight loss could be from anywhere from 3 - 4 lbs, so I was excited to try. At first I thought it would be difficult to follow, (haven't 'followed' a health plan in a while) but it actually was pretty simple. I must admit that I did find myself hungry the first few days, especially on the days I worked out. This was a bit challenging, because being hungry in no fun! But, I was focused and determined and thought I'd just have to deal with it. But around the 3rd day, my body started to adjust. Upon completion of the 7 days, my weight loss was 3 lbs and I was thrilled. But my goal was least 5 lbs so I decided to do another 7 day round with some small modifications of my own. I started to add chicken to my 'big salad' as well as other proteins with my cooked veggies for dinner. I even threw in one of my favorite low fat ice cream for dessert. I am happy to say that after round 2 I have surpassed my goal and am down 6 lbs. I went to Living Proof to speak with Lisa about my nutrition issues. After having lost about 40 lbs a few years ago, I have let 12-15 creep back on. I wanted to speak with Lisa about a plan to get my eating back under control. Living Proof has a great, positive atmosphere. Lisa was beyond helpful and encouraging and I found it extremely easy to talk to her. She took my measurements and maybe the coolest thing about the session is the RMR machine. After breathing into a tube for 10 very relaxing minutes, the machine spit out my RMR which let me know how many calories I burn in a day without activity. This helped me understand the calories I should be eating in a day. With all of the various weight loss calculators on the web and all of the different points of view regarding how much to eat, it was nice to actually see a solid number with which to base my meal plan around. Lisa changed my health and my life. I have PCOS, which means I need the help of birth control or herbal supplement to have a normal menstrual cycle, well I used to anyway. After working with Lisa and changing my eating habits, my menstrual cycle has corrected itself and I no longer have to take any pills. I had a major sweet tooth and loved to binge on junk food. I've trained with countless NYC-based trainers, and I can honestly say that the fitness experts (weight training and real, classical Pilates) are some of the best in the biz. If you opt for weight training, you'll do 30-minute private sessions on special equipment, lifting really heavy weights--very slowly. The atmosphere is very unintimidating, and the workouts are catered to your own personal level, whether you are totally new to exercise or an advanced practitioner. The private studio is always nice and chilly so that you can literally work out in your work clothes. (I've seen men and women lifting in suits!) My strength AND flexibility has skyrocketed. I do not like gyms or to exercise but Living Proof NYC is a very special place and I no longer dread working out. It has a very comfortable warm intimate and friendly environment plus they have state of the art equipment which I have heard is the best. The personal trainers are high quality professionals who work you hard and keep track of your progress and I can see the results on my body. The best part it is only a half an hour workout and I do not have to change into work out clothes or shower after my work out. I also have taken advantage of using their Nutrition Services and lost the weight that I had gained and learned new ways to keep that weight off.
