I admit I made a mistake a couple years ago when I thought getting a Groupon for Lasik was a good idea. With the cost of the required follow-up visits, the price was about the same as anywhere else, but I had already bought the groupon and Dr. Saimovici seemed legit despite the obvious sneakiness. He convinced me that PRK was a better option for all people, and it didn't seem like I had much of an option or much of an argument as to why not, so I agreed. He said it hurt for some people, others not so much. The day of the surgery, he made me pretty uncomfortable. My husband was with me, and apparently he had told me to call him if the pain was unbearable, but then in private told my husband that I would definitely want to call him, but not to because the pain was normal. During the surgery I had to stare at a red light... I remember that my vision was so poor that even with the red light so close to me, it still just looked like a blur of red. I was so nervous. Afterwards Dr. Saimovici asked me if I took drugs. I made a little joke and said no, should I have? And he in all seriousness said absolutely not, but your eyes moved like a druggie. I don't take drugs -_- I was upset to be accused of taking drugs and even more terrified that my surgery had been messed up and he was trying to make an excuse for it. The pain I felt the few days after was THE WORST pain I have felt in my life. While my eyes were healing over, I had about 3 days of feeling like my eyes were consistently being scrubbed with sandpaper. The tiniest bit of light from when my husband would come into the bedroom to distribute the eye drops made me wish I was dead. I knew that despite good vision after about two weeks and total healing, I could never recommend this doctor or this type of procedure. I was also dealing with the fear that the surgery hadn't worked the entire two weeks when everything was blurry while my eyes healed. Now that my brother has just gotten PRK with a legitimate doctor, I realize that Dr. Saimovici never offered me contacts to wear after the surgery. My brother had the procedure done yesterday and is in almost no pain. I hadn't known that was an option or would be necessary from my research, and I just can't believe the pain I went through was so unnecessary. It seems evil now that I reflect back. My brother's doctor was completely shocked that I hadn't been given contacts to wear after the procedure. He told my brother he would be in unbearable pain without them. I always felt something was a little off with Dr. Saimovici, and even though I had to pre-pay for the follow up visits, I stopped going altogether and visited with a different doctor because he made me so uneasy. I now see how badly I was taken advantage of, and I also can't really understand why he didn't use contacts after my procedure. Bait and switch. Bought a "full" Lasik on Groupon for $1,995. Went for consultation, and after wasting an hour getting my eyes examined, the receptionist told me there's an additional $1,200 for 7 follow up visits that are required for all people getting Lasik. My Lasik is pretty much the most basic that is possible (low prescription, good cornea, etc.), so it wasn't due to any specific reasons due to me. Bye Bye Lip Lines! I was looking to make those lines above the lip appear smoother, and went to Dr Saimovic for a consultation. A friend of mine recommended his work, and when I got to his office, I was impressed at the wall of photos with clients he's treated, and their testimonies . I found Dr Saimovici to be very knowledgable, and was appreciative with how much time he spent with me discussing my options. I decided to let him do the lip filler procedure. It took about a half hour, and was not as painful as I thought it would be (the lip area is so sensitive)...Dr Saimovici said it would take a few days for the swelling to go down, and has me scheduled for a follow up appointment next week. I've been interested in LASIK surgery for a long time, but was nervous about it. I was terribly near-sighted for over 30 years and so I asked my eye doctor if I was a candidate. He checked the thickness of my corneas, which is imperative (if the cornea is too thin, you are not a good candidate). My eye doc said things looked good and so he recommended Dr. Saimovici. I had a consultation with Dr. Saimovici and he also checked my corneas and addressed any reservations I had. I spoke with his assistant, Christina, and her father, who is a pioneer of LASIK, had recommended Dr. Saimovici to do Christina's surgery, and that was a big selling point for me. So I took the plunge! I had surgery last week, and let me tell ya, I was nervous! Christina talked me through the entire process, and Dr. Saimovici checked my eyes one more time. Then his assistant, Katie, administered the numbing eye drops, and we were ready for surgery. Katie talked me through each "countdown" of the laser treatment and Dr. Saimovici made me feel safe and reassured. My first clear vision was of his smiling face. The next few hours were trippy. My eyes were tearing like crazy, which was good for healing, and I was immensely sensitive to any light. I preferred to be in the dark, because any light source was too intense, but I had heard this was common. I ended up sleeping. The next day I awoke and everything was crystal clear. I could see everything! Also,the light no longer bothered me. Everything was great! It's been 4 days since surgery and I'm still seeing better than I ever have! I can tell my eyes are still healing, and rest is important.There are a few adjustments as I'm learning to see in a whole new way. Sooo...Main point of my story would and already have highly recommended Liviu Saimovici to all my friends and relative. Background...I had a prescription of -5.75 in both eyes. If you don't know what that means, it means when I woke up I had to wake up my bae to help me find my glasses (which annoyed him) or wore glasses (old pair) to look for my newish glass. Too lazy for contacts so it meant I had to wear glasses to look in the mirror less than a foot away. It meant if I didn't have glasses I would get headaches and when I saw other people I would see two black circles where their eyes should be (which is scary A.F.) cuz I couldn't see the whites of their eyes. I needed glasses to wear in the shower to shave my private area cuz I couldn't see if I got everything. TMI? Maybe, haha! The Decision...I decided that I would get my eyes done, and knew before hand through EXTENSIVE research that I wanted to go to LIVIU SAIMOVICI's office because he is the best of the best according to my research. *As a side note when looking up Dr.'s of any kind, but especially for Lasik procedures which helped my decision, look up the dr.'s name against any lawsuit against them whether due to malpractice or whatever and you will not see Dr. Liviu's name for this issue. After a friend's referral, I underwent PRK laser surgery with Dr. Saimovici. He was attentive and spent a lot time during preliminary visits discussing the process and options appropriate for my eyes. I had PRK surgery with Dr. Saimovici just over a month ago (Feb 2012). Dr Saimovici and his team were professional, helpful and very knowledgable. His office keeps timely appointments and his staff is very friendly. Dr. Saimovici was also able to accommodate my surgery with very short notice, for which I am very grateful. On the day of the surgery I felt very much at ease. Dr Saimovici and his staff talked me through the entire procedure, and I was relaxed knowing I was in very good care. I am writing this of my own volition without any compensation Background and Summary: I had Lasik about 6 weeks ago with Dr. Saimovici in his Manhattan office and am very happy with the results. Overall, I was a good candidate with a prescription of -5 and -3.25 with slight astigmatism, average corneal thickness and above average size pupils. I'm 24 and couldn't wear contacts comfortably for more than a few hours. The thought of not needing glasses as an athlete for (likely) the next 2 decades made it seem like a worthwhile investment. Why Dr. Saimovici: * He came reccomended by a coworker who had PRK with him 6 months prior * Dr. Saimovici is the only doctor you interact with from start to finish. He performs the consult and post-operative checkups himself. This clearly was not the case at other centers I visited who often pass you off to other less experienced staff for consults and checkups. I liked the idea of not having my proceedure being fragmented between multiple doctors/technicians. * The overall experience felt more like a doctor's office rather than a factory or business. His staff was friendly, accommodating, and communicative. * He is clearly experienced and successful * Specific to me: We both studied engineering, so he was willing and able to answer my technical questions * I spent a substantial amount of time deliberating and sifting through the reviews, FDA studies, technology, and science of the proceedure. It was easier than getting a cavity filled, less than 15min. * Headache for about 30 min after * Went home and rested, vision cloudy but already better. I was sensitive to light and wore sunglasses indoors * Rested all day Friday at home. Had checkup on Friday, already 20/15. Mostly functional during the weekend, but wearing sunglasses indoors etc. I wasn't ready to stare at a computer screen for hours * I went back to work on Monday. I was so tired of wearing glasses,especially when I go to the gym.And the contacts made,my eyes so dry,I couldn't wear them for more than half a day.I wanted to improve my vision long time ago,but couldn't afford it,because I was a student.After finishing college and getting a job,I finally decided to go for LASIK.I did some research and saw that Dr.Saimovici's practice had good reviews.I called them and spoke to Christina(she is a manager of the place who did LASIK there herself),so I had somebody who could speak from her own expertise.Christina explained everything to me,including the procedures(they perform both Lasik and PRK),the price,and financial options they were offering,and I decided to come for a free consultation.There was no waiting time,Christina met me and once again explained all the details.Immediately after that I was seen by Dr.Saimovici himself.He performed some tests and informed me that I qualified for both LASIK and PRK,so I just had to decide which one I would go for(There's plenty of Information about both procedures on their website).I chosed LASIK,because recovery time is shorter and healing is easier(Basically,you can go to work next day,and go to the gym after a week).They offer good financial options where you can break a payment into parts.So,I didn't want to wait anymore,and scheduled my surgery for the following week.On the day of the surgery I was met by Katie(doctor's assistant),she gave me a bunch of papers to sign(understandable,because it is a surgery and could cause side effects).After that I was taken to Dr.Saimovici to repeat the tests that we did on the day of consultation(5 min),and eventually,to the room where the surgery took place.I don't want to get into details about the surgery itself,because some people can get freaked out(I am a health professional,so I wasn't).I'll just say it wasn't painful at all.Katie was explaining every step during the procedure,she even did a countdown when the laser was working.The surgery took about 15 min and I could see clearly right away,even though my eyes were tearing a lot(a side effect of anesthetic drops).They warned me that the tearing should stop after 2-3 hours,and it did.I stayed in recovery for another 10 min and was checked by the doctor.The reminder of the evening was fine,I just had to rest and keep my eyes closed as long as possible.They give you plastic shades to wear at night,so you don't accidentally rub your eyes.I woke up the next morning with a fear that I forgot to take my contacts off.I could see so clearly.My eyes didn't tear anymore.It was just some blurry to see objects that were close(I had the same problem with contacts).But I knew it was temporarily,and the vision should level up within a couple of days.And it did!On this same day I went for a follow up by myself.I just had to wear sun glasses and put drops every 2 hours.The doctor examined my eyes.Everything was fine.My vision was 20/15.My next follow up was after a week,and then after 3 weeks.I went for it yesterday,and looks like everything is fine.They warned about side effects,such as dryness,but I don't experience much dryness(nothing comparing to wearing contacts).My next follow up is next month.It's great that they really take care of you not just during the surgery,but long after it.Dr.Saimovici is a very nice man,professional in his field.Both girls Christina and Katie are nice as well.I am really happy I did my LASIK there! read more
