It's not just a way to get across the Colorado River (a.k.a. Town Lake or Ladybird Lake), it's a destination all to itself, with views for miles, interesting characters, live entertainment, and multiple features to delight urban architecture nerds. If you've never been, add this to your Austin bucket list, stat. Before the ADA-compliant, vehicle-free PPB opened in 2001, runners and walkers had to scurry for their lives on the skinny, unprotected sidewalks bordering the Lamar Bridge. Believe me when I tell you it was NOT a pleasure, so if you needed to get across with your life, your other options were to go a couple of miles west to the shaded pedestrian bridge under Mopac or go another mile east to the protected walkways of South 1st Bridge. In fact, the PPB is named after James D. Pfluger, a local architect who designed much of our beloved downtown hike & bike trail and was killed by a car while walking across the Lamar Bridge. These days, locals and visitors can safely pass over the water between Riverside Drive and Electric Drive (near the Seaholm District with Trader Joe's and the Central Library), whether on foot or non-powered wheels, while taking in magnificent views of downtown, the graffiti'd rail bridge, the lake, and the hill country. There are memorial benches and sturdy railings for rest, waste & recycle bins, planters with seasonal vegetation, and if you visit at the right time, you'll likely get to hear some of why Austin is called "Live Music Capital of the World" for free, or with just a few coins in the tip jar. Sometimes, vendors are there with water and other cool treats for a hot day. Headed toward the north side of the bridge, you're faced with a few choices: take the left fork all the way to Electric Drive, take the right fork and the stairs to the trail on the north shore of the lake, or take the right fork to the curly-queue that winds down to the trail (best for bikes, strollers, and skaters). Once you hit the trail, you can also choose to trigger the crossing signal and walk across Cesar Chavez to join the concrete Lance Armstrong bike path east toward the beautiful Austin Central Library. Or even better, keep running west to Mopac, circle under, and come back to make a full 5k (3.1 mile) loop. As a runner, I have countless great memories of crossing PBB with friends, whether starting an evening social run from The Loop Running Company on Sandra Muraida Way, or cutting over during an early Saturday morning long run with ATX Runners. I've seen the views and experienced the variety of crowd densities at dawn, midday, dusk, and late-night, each time with its own ambiance. If you find yourself in this part of downtown, it's a great place to stop and take it all in. This is one of those spots that remind me why I still live in Austin after all these years.

I was in Austin, TX for vacation and was told that there was a Thomas Dambo troll that was located…read morein the city. Steve told me this and so we went and looked it up while we were here taking in the sights and I was so glad I did! I love the Thomas Dambo trolls and there are several located where I live and after finding all of them I was really interested in finding more that were wherever we may do our travels. Malin or Malin's Fountain troll was in Pease Park and after figuring out where a good place to park the car we dove out and went looking for the troll. It wasn't long before we did find it. It also helps to look for a group of people because a lot of them are there to take pictures of these trolls. I got pictures of her big aqua gem necklace, the big bowl she was holding ( this troll was a she) and of course her big face. It was great and I always love to share my pictures with friends with the trolls I go see. Unfortunately on May 21st, 2026 Malin was destroyed in a fire. Completely reduced to ash. The cause as of 5/22/26 is still under investigation. I was there about a month before. The Austin area is very upset with the loss of their troll. This isn't the first time a troll has been destroyed. Vandals destroyed one in Australia and natural weather occurrences has destroyed at least one in Latin America. Eventually it seems a troll that is destroyed gets replaced by another eventually in the nearby area where one may have been but it is a completely different troll with a new name and nor a recreation of the previous one. From my understanding the previous troll's story ends with it's destruction and the new troll has a new story of it's own. It's kind of sad but also cool at the same time as each sculpture has it's own story regardless if it remains intact or not. But the loss of Malin is more upsetting than anything as these Dambo trolls are so beautiful and a delight to see for anyone.

As you walk along the trail in…read morePease Park, she suddenly appears sitting quietly among the trees watching over the creek holding a large bowl meant to collect rainwater for the animals. She is an 18-ft reminder that the park belongs to the wildlife as well and that we should all share the resources around us. Handmade completely from recycled and reclaimed wood, most of it locally sourced and assembled with the help of volunteers, Thomas Dambo designed Malin as a part of his worldwide series of giant trolls to encourage people to care for nature and reuse materials instead of throwing them away. She is absolutely magical and I highly recommend you come and visit her if you are anywhere near the area. It's an incredible experience to gaze up at her beautiful hair made from twisted boots and branches, and see the gentle, peaceful expression on her face. You will have to walk a bit on the trail to find her, but if anything, that makes it even more special when you do see her. Please, please be respectful to these beautiful art installations and the other people who are visiting them and hopefully your stop here will inspire you to listen to Dambo's message and seek out more of his work.

This viewpoint has become one of the most photographed spots in Austin, especially at sunset. It is very common to see folks take wedding/engagement, graduation, family and other photos here. But I've seen people park on the side of the highway if the spot are all taken. I did try to view the fireworks from here July 4, 2023, but it was a no go. You can hear them, but you can't see them. But, come any other day, and it's perfect.

The trails around Brushy Creek are fantastic and super dog-friendly--it's the perfect area to take Benjamin for a long afternoon walk. There are also some solid local bakeries and casual spots to grab a bite. It's clean, easy to navigate, and just a relaxed, easygoing place to spend the day.

Lady Bird Lake: Offers trails, kayaking, and scenic views, forming the southern boundary of downtown. Republic Square: A park that hosts the SFC Farmers Market on Saturdays.

City of Austin is an interesting place…read more The city has a variety of food options, music venues, the arts, and nature. Always good options based on what you are looking to do. But, there is overpriced housing and the infrastructure that does not meet the need of the current population. Traffic can be crazy based on where you are trying to go. The list can go on. I have alot of good memories of things I have checked out in Austin. But understand the appeal to check out other cities, when visiting.

This is a 6' x 100' sculpture located along Woodrow Avenue starting at St. John's Ave. It is a…read morefantastic example of artistic ceramic tilemanship. It was created between 2003 and 2008 with help from the residents of the Brentwood and Crestview neighborhoods. Every tile depicts, a family, a business, a school, a person, and churches along with 7 historical narratives. It depicts the history of this neighborhood area including many past and current businesses. Also found within this standing relief are some personal anecdotes that flow along most of the wall. If you're interested in learning some of the local history in this part of town, you should stop by and view this.

This is a cemetery that started in 1859 according to the Texas historical sign. I suggest you check…read moreout the photo of it below as it will give you more insight. This appears to be an active graveyard, as there are some recent burials here with plenty of surrounding space for more. There is a single pave lane that runs through the center of the property. As you would expect, there are many Freemason symbols on headstones, along with the graves of veterans from earlier wars. There are also many family plots ringed by concrete borders. The cemetery is relatively well cared for, but the noise of I 35 not far away detracts from the peace. Most of the people who are interred here have been long forgotten, but there are a handful of graves that receive some attention, and there are flags on the veterans graves. Plenty of photos included concerning this historical place.
