The cakes were supposed to serve 70 people or so. We ended up having quite a lot of cake left- the entire round cake and maybe an eighth or so of the sheet cake. The round cake was pretty hard to cut due to the height so I think we should have had the venue slice this first - sheet cake was a lot easier to pack back up and transport. That sort of made me wonder if I should have even ordered a round cake but it was definitely stunning and added a lot in terms of aesthetics and looked great in pictures. Jess was great to work with and did a great job checking in when needed. I ended up sending her a design for the round cake and she made something really lovely. She also found some gorgeous real flowers for the cake and sent me all the different options so I knew what to choose from. She even ended up adding some details to the sheet cake even though these are often left plain just for serving. We had discussed not wanting the cake to be too sweet and I think it was probably a bit too sweet still for myself and most guests. The actual cake itself was perfect in terms of texture and also flavor and sweetness and was so much better than most if not all cakes I have had. However the buttercream texture wasn't my favorite and I found it to be a bit sweeter than expected. I also wanted there to be a lot more triple berry butter cream/berry flavor. Some of the issue was also deciding to add a white chocolate layer (our suggestion so definitely on us) which didn't help the texture or flavor. Ultimately a solid cake and the vanilla bean cake itself was pretty spectacular. If I order again in the future, I would just discuss ways to make the outside buttercream less intense and find ways to incorporate more of the fruit flavors of the berry buttercream filling. A bunch of guests did ask me about the cake and say they enjoyed it so that was good. I did shop around a small amount and the prices were competitive. I had a very positive experience overall. The cakes were also easy to pick up and well packaged - if you have some kind of large flat surface like a foldable seat or back of an SUV you should be good. I would definitely order again for a party but probably would opt for even fewer portions and would make those notes about the flavors.

I was asked to order a cake for a Retirement celebration. Ordering a large cake for a grand celebration put a lot of pressure on me. Costco is nice and the pricing is great, but it lacks the wow factor that I wanted for this special celebration. We had co-workers that were retiring after over 20 years of service, one retiree had over 50. So this cake had to be spectacular in looks and taste. After researching and reading many reviews, I decided to stop by and speak with Skiff to see what they offered. The minute you walk into their quaint bakery, it definitely felt unique and warm. Speaking with the gal behind the counter who assisted me in answering all my questions on the cake, pricing and decorations to make the cake look very classy and have the wow factor. I wanted whipped cream for the frosting, but was concerned that it might be too soft. I have had whipped cream that has a marshmallow texture and is not too sweet. This is exactly what was given to me to taste test. It was delicious. Since this was going to be for about 50 co-workers, we decided on a white cake, fresh strawberry, custard Bavarian cream with whipped cream. The decoration was subtle and classy with touches of gold and white chocolate as decoration on the cake. I decided to order cupcakes to bring home to try their flavors. Each cupcake was unique and so delicious. So I knew the cake was going to be amazing. Picking up the cake, they helped me to my car and ensured the cake was not going to slide around through the drive. How thoughtful. And of course, the cake did not disappoint. They had white shaved chocolates with gold touches to look like flowers in the corners of the cake. It was stunningly beautiful, classy and just so delicious. This is an amazing, unique wholesome bakery. I just hope they stay small, personable and special. I would highly recommend ordering any baking needs from Skiff's Cakes. You will not be disappointed and will have a wow factor for your guest to enjoy during any special occasion or gathering. Or even taking a dozen cookies or cupcakes to any gathering. It took her quite a few minutes to finish up with the person she was already with, no biggie, she made eye contact with us again, another person walks in and waits too. Right when they were done, the girl at the counter immediately helped the person that walked in. Like what about us? We figured, okay let it slide, we'll be helped next. When they were done, the girl at the counter asked "who can I help next?" While walking towards other people and not us. My fiancé raised his arm and said "hey we were next!" She didn't even look at us. One of the other customers that walked in heard him. We walked out of there pissed. Not coming back.

The cake was supposed to be sapphire on the bottom tier & slowly transition to emerald & transition to turquoise. The flavors we picked were lemon, white velvet & chocolate. The cake was beautiful, but not quite the ombré cake I was expecting. There wasn't a seamless transition in color, which is what ombré cakes are known for. The flavors were right, but were not on the their assigned tiers. I didn't bother to complain as we were already on our honeymoon when we realized that our cake contract didn't match the cake we actually got. The cake was beautiful & delicious, so I didn't care at that point. Unfortunately, many guests didn't get the chance to even try out me cake as the cake cutting didn't happen until much later in the night & it started to get very cold. The venue saved most of our cake & we took part of it to eat with our of town family leaving the next day. They all commented that it had been one of the best cakes they've tried. So, nonetheless, I was still happy with the cake, even with the mistakes & that is my reason for 4 stars & not 5.
