Let me just say, I'm a big fan of Frost It! My hubby & I started coming here for their amazing cupcakes when they opened. Quickly, we became regulars. I can't even name all the flavors that we fell in love with, but red velvet, lemon, strawberry, salted caramel & chocolate peanut butter just to name a few. We were sad when we found out that they were transitioning from a cupcake store to a by-appointment cake shop, but I understood why. My husband & I vowed that when we got married, we would use them as our wedding cake baker. So, when we decided in July 2015 that we were getting married, we set out to make an appointment in a few months. Our appointment was scheduled for June 2016. Our friends who were visiting us, one of them was a bridesmaid, came with us for our cake tasting. My bridesmaid also paid for our wedding cake as a gift! I was blown away at such an extravagant gift ($800+)!!! We ordered for a 3 tiered ombré cake based on our wedding colors... sapphire, emerald & turquoise. The cake was supposed to be sapphire on the bottom tier & slowly transition to emerald & transition to turquoise. The flavors we picked were lemon, white velvet & chocolate. The cake was beautiful, but not quite the ombré cake I was expecting. There wasn't a seamless transition in color, which is what ombré cakes are known for. The flavors were right, but were not on the their assigned tiers. I didn't bother to complain as we were already on our honeymoon when we realized that our cake contract didn't match the cake we actually got. The cake was beautiful & delicious, so I didn't care at that point. Unfortunately, many guests didn't get the chance to even try out me cake as the cake cutting didn't happen until much later in the night & it started to get very cold. The venue saved most of our cake & we took part of it to eat with our of town family leaving the next day. They all commented that it had been one of the best cakes they've tried. So, nonetheless, I was still happy with the cake, even with the mistakes & that is my reason for 4 stars & not 5. The team and Frost It Cakery made the most AMAZING wedding cake for my Husband and I'd dream wedding at Hartley Botanica. I contacted Kodi to inquire about their cakes and the process was so easy (especially during the pandemic). We scheduled a tasting virtually and they had samples of all their cakes and frostings delivered. Upon booking we thought the desserts would be priority mailed over, but they actually HAND DELIVERED them! So amazing! My husband and I live in Orange County and we know it was a far drive so we were truly surprised and so appreciative of this personal touch. I had a call with Kodi shortly after and selected our flavors and shared some inspiration photos of the look we were going for. I liked how we were able to consult with them and they gave honest suggestions on serving sizes. I spoke with other bakeries and they suggest 1 serving per guest, Kodi was very transparent and suggested to purchase less servings (and good thing we did bc we did have leftovers)! I love it when businesses are honest and don't push you to max out their profits. They absolutely killed it! The cake was gorgeous and also so delicious! In just the last two months I had the great pleasure of working with Rhonda over at Frost It for two events - work and personal. Work: Retirement cake recreated from a photo we had - absolutely perfect. Better than the photo in fact! Also fit within our budget. She adjusted size accordingly. Lemon Cake with Raspberry Filling and for the large tier, Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Chip Mousse for small tier. Chocolate cake was moist. Lemon cake was just a tiny bit dry. Personal: Baby shower cake with "Welcome to the World" theme - PHENOMENAL. She captured EXACTLY what I was looking for - with vintage looking luggage, coral color, and world. EXACTLY. Folks were shocked it was a cake and it stood up with the huge dessert table we had created for the recipient. Flavors were Chocolate cake with peanut butter, white cake with caramel, lemon cake with raspberry. Again, chocolate cake stayed incredibly moist. The white and lemon cake just a teeny, tiny bit dry, but the flavors were right on point. The "specialty" flavors are subtle - just enough to get you the taste, but not overpowering at all. On another note, Rhonda was SO SO SO accommodating and responsive. That is so important when creating a cake for a special occasion. And I had a bit of an emergency with another dessert item which she saved the day with - quickly and effectively. My son's birthday is coming up, so I will be ordering from Frost It again. Frost It made the most GORGEOUS vintage square, four tiered wedding cake for our fall vintage Romance wedding. It was so incredibly DELICIOUS (I am craving it right now) as well as beautiful and STUNNING looking! It was white velvet (drooling as we speak) and had raspberry mousse filling! Lesley even went above and beyond to find the perfect black and gold deco liner for the bottom of the cake that I wanted!!!! Just the best company ever! They even left a box for us to save the tiers for the end of the night! Like seriously you guys rock!!!! We even had them make a small 4 inch red velvet personal cake for someone's birthday who we were celebrating on my wedding day to commemorate her! She cried when we sang her happy birthday with a candle. Our wedding cake was STUNNING! They're cupcakes are both beautiful, and delicious. The cake was moist and the frosting generous and tasty. These cupcakes are a classic design with cupcake on the bottom and frosting on top. No extra filling inside the cake, but I don't think it needed it. The staff was helpful and friendly. Cons: Though they have an "Irish Car Bomb" cupcake available as a speciality flavor on their website, the store was closed this St Patty's day! I appreciate the minimalistic design of the store and having enough open space to move & look around. The shop is cute. I love cupcakes. These, I don't know... They looked nice, but there was WAY too much frosting on them. And the frosting was way too sugary (FYI: I love sugar, sad but true). I want a cupcake with frosting, not the other way around. We tried the red velvet and the chocolate peanut butter cupcake. In my world, red velvet cake comes with cream cheese frosting. This cupcake had more of a classic buttercream frosting on it. And - I feel the need to repeat myself - the frosting was way too sweet!! The red velvet cake itself was too dry and not very flavourful. I have to say, the chocolate cupcake was bland and also rather dry... The peanut butter frosting was good (though also pretty sweet). In addition, I tried their brownie chocolate chip cookie (baked together). A great idea, very tasty. The brownie was moist and fudgy, the cookie tasted good - I enjoyed the combination. I liked the boxes for the cupcakes and the store logo is beautiful as well (yes, these things matter to me). I didn't feel very welcomed upon entering the store. There was one employee talking to the only other customer in the store. The employee didn't bother looking in my direction when I came in. Even after I greeted her, I did not get an answer. Only after she had finished serving the other customer, she even acknowledged my presence - but then she was very nice. Sorry though, a bit more multi-tasking would do you well! While this place has been open for about a month now, I don't think they have their little kinks ironed out yet. A few Fridays ago, I called intermittently all day long to see what Frost It Cupcakery's hours actually were, and NOT ONCE did anyone answer the phone. Instead, I used the business hours guide on Yelp. Sure enough, they were open, but when I entered, it was empty, and no one was up front to greet me. The owner and her husband were in the back, apparently getting ready for a next day Farmers' Market event, but she claims to have been there all day. That's just STUPID business practice. If the idea is to draw in customers, new customers, returning, whatever, don't leave your phone unattended just because you're busy. It makes people think you're NOT OPEN. Duh. While the minimal decor is cute, and the owner is still trying to figure things out (I could tell, plus she just seemed kind of scattered), a large counter area was dwarfed by a rather sizeable overall storefront. Plus, as big as the counter area was, it was NOT well stocked with a great selection of cupcake flavors, and even with what flavors she had, there weren't many cupcakes of each flavor to choose from.....almost like they were picked over. Bottom line.... I feel like she needs to grow INTO that place. She could use some tables and chairs in there, too, which she had plenty of room for, but yet, there were none in there. Plus, she needs more decorations, and definitely more cupcakes, both in terms of flavors and quantity of each. Okay, now for the important part. The cupcakes. I see potential, but regardless of why, she obviously hasn't reached it yet. The owner claimed to be doing this for quite some time at various local Farmers' Markets and is trying her hand at a stationary location. However, if what I sampled is all she's achieved, then I don't know. Everything I tried was somewhat dried out, which equates to a loss of flavor. No matter who baked them or what was baked, it loses flavor as it ages. Plus, she had the cupcakes stored in individual cake stands, with the only thing separating the cupcakes from the evil room air was a plastic dome lid. While the presentation looks cute, it's not all that protective. I tried 4 flavors of cupcakes...... there were only 6-8 varieties to choose from. I also tried a chocolate chip cookie baked into a brownie, which was much better in its idea than in reality. On that one, the brownie was not that fudgy or flavorful, and overall, it was dried out especially around the edges. As for the cupcakes, the flavors SOUNDED good, but again, they were a little dry, and the flavor was a bit flat. I tried the banana caramel, cookies and cream, chocolate, and strawberry. So maybe I went on an off week. Maybe I went after the cupcakes had been sitting out for too many days. Maybe her best stuff was being taken to her Farmers' Market. If she's going to have a storefront for her baked goods, she needs to start paying more attention to THAT and less attention to her Farmers' Market....until she at least gets this storefront location off the ground to a successful running start. I wonder if she's spreading herself too thin. Well, this is just my opinion, but I'd like to think I know a thing or two about the subject. read more

Wow....super soft cupcakes- definitely the most soft cake texture I've ever had. I just devoured the Peanut Butter Chocolate and the frosting was perfect flavors of peanut butter while the chocolate cake under it was melting in my mouth in a nice soft sweet texture. I've never had a cupcake do that- suppose I never had a really soft cupcake before ? I've been trying all kinds of cupcake places this year- and though all of them I thought were great with such inventive ideas and all- this place takes it on the softness of the cake and amazing frosting. As a disclaimer, I never actually got to try their cake. My review is for poor service. I had reached out to Frost It Cakery for a quote for a small two-tiered cake plus 2 dozen cake pops for a small and intimate wedding. I received a response that they have a minimum order of $450 for weddings and they suggested other bakeries. Let me just say that most bakeries have a minimum order for weddings, and not one other place denied me of a quote for the same order. I didn't even need it decorated as I wanted the semi-naked design, PLUS it was for a Thursday so it's not like they would have had to give up a bigger order to fulfill mine since most weddings are on the weekend. I also would have gladly picked it up or paid for delivery. Looking at their website they clearly make cakes the size I asked for and for occasions other than weddings; so maybe just because it was TECHNICALLY for a "wedding" that I excluded myself from being able to purchase from them. If I had just asked for a two-tiered semi naked cake and 2 dozen cake pops, I'm assuming I wouldn't have been hit with the "minimum order" response. The two stars is only because based on their website and other reviews, it appears they make good cakes - hence my attempt at a quote. But I'll never know, and I would never recommend them because of it. read more

These cupcakes are so-so. I came in right before close, so I understand the quality of the cupcake is different late in the day compared to in the morning, however I feel like my chocolate cupcake was a little bit dry. The buttercream was great, though, it was nice to see flecks of vanilla bean in it. I was not impressed with the customer service. It was not bad by any means, but I wouldn't say they were super nice or helpful. EDIT 11/29: Since my review I would like to add two stars. I have visited this bakery three additional times and I have been 100% impressed. The customer service has been great, there is particularly one cashier that I just adore and the amount of flavors makes it hard to choose. Recently they added samples which is a great way to decide if you want to try something new. I was told they are under new ownership, I am wondering if when I had the not so stellar experience is before or after the new owners. They made the most lovely and delicious wedding cake for my daughter's backyard 20 person micro wedding a couple weeks ago. The cake was stunning in its simplicity. And it was gluten free (red velvet) The florist brought the fresh flowers to adorn the cake and Kodi provided the cake stand. We loved the convenience of Take-Out cake tasting. They provided the mini cupcakes and an assortment of fillings to try. It was great fun. They also made French Macarons to match the colors in the invitation. And added the bride and groom's initials with a heart emoji in gold. Very sweet and super delicious. Home delivery was right on time. This review is so long overdue!!!! Lesley is absolutely amazing. Cupcakes are their specialty and they've certainly got some unique flavors. We came here for a wedding cupcake tower/cake and Lesley helped make our vision come to life. Lesley was able to subtly incorporate our theme and colors into the cake so sophisticatedly that I just could not believe it turned out so well!!!!!! They have beautiful and sturdy cupcake towers which you can rent (make couple places we went to had questionable styrofoam ones??) and they can set everything up at the venue. We ordered almond, white, and red velvet cupcakes and Lesley was right on with her suggested count for the amount of guests as we only had a handful of leftovers. The cupcakes themselves were comparable to sprinkles but better as the sugar is not quite as sugary and overpowering. The cake is moist and I love that everything is fresh. The shop is open and specializes in events so don't expect to be able to order huge quantities on a whim. Will definitely be back for an anniversary cake :). read more

I want to support my local businesses but this one fell short. Not only were they late, they didn't call us to tell us they'd be late, and then they blamed it on traffic...when we live in the same city. Forehead slap. The end product presented so poorly that my tough wife nearly cried. We are extremely unimpressed. In fact, we would have cancelled the order if we had time but now we're forced to serve the mediocre cupcakes (more like thimball cakes) and white cake (white frosted blob) they made for us. Ralphs Bakery would have done a better job and would have been ontime. I hate saying it (because they came highly recommended) but it's true in our case. There was nothing about the presentation and quality that said, "We bought these from a boutique bakery". It said, "We bought these from the local market and clearly a teenager-in-training made this as a protype...and now we're serving this mediocrity to you..." To add insult to injury, we were offered a very small comp for our trouble, which was this company telling us to "F'off", and their overall attitude. Bottom line: this company can do better and they know they messed up. But they simply don't care. Our order was not important to them and they made that abundantly clear. I'm sure if our last name was Kardashian, they would have pulled all stops and delivered on time. They know what I'm talking about. Sorry our order is not worthy of your effort. Next time turn us down instead of taking our money and rushing out a half-a$$, last-minute effort. We are a forgiving family even though this is a very important event that they decided to not care about. I still offer them the opportunity to make it up and prove to us that they can do better. They came recommended from someone in the local community who does a lot of events...and now will be looking for an alternate baker. Not only was Frost-It easy to work with, flexible, helpful, etc. the cake and desserts were SO yummy. We are big foodies and love dessert so it was important to us to have a very yummy cake and desserts. We were so happy with our Wedding Cake! In preparation for our June, 2015 wedding, we drove out to Frost It Cupcakery for a tasting. Lesley met with us, and was very easy to contact and accommodated our time restrictions. The array of flavors of cake and frosting were all delicious! Although we were on a budget, Lesley went out of her way to present us with options that allowed us to have the cake of our dreams. She also took the time to get all the necessary details to coordinate with the rest of our wedding vendors so the cake would get there at the best time, and the event could go smoothly. Frost It Cupcakery worked very well with our florist and the caterer, and ensured the cake was decorated with flowers in accordance with our wishes. And... the cake was absolutely delicious! Beyond just the taste the cake was tastefully done with a look of subdued and classic elegance. Even though we were pressed for time to make our flight out to our honeymoon, once we tasted the cake we took some time to enjoy it, since it was so tasty. Our guests loved it too! Nice ladies that operate a boutique style specialty cake bakery. Great tasting cakes but my husband and I were extremely shocked to have discovered that the cake for our silver themed wedding, as per the original photograph provided was never an issue from the baker. Instead they never communicated that they are unable to achieve this metallic finish as per our request. We signed a contract, paid the fee and discovered on our actual wedding day that the cake was a darker grey and more matte than metallic! My wedding planner and guests thought the cake looked out of place and did not match the metallic cake topper at all. It was an embarrassment to say the least. However the cake tasted great which made up for it to a degree. The coconut flavor was the tastiest. I stopped in late this morning to place a last-minute order for a birthday party the next day. Given that my order was last-minute And relatively small I did not expect A great deal of customization. However, I did expect to be greeted when i walked in the door (The store was empty with the exception of my husband and myself) and with some small level of customer service. I received neither of those things. The young lady that was helping me had to continually ask her boss, (I assume this was the owner) for help with responses to my questions. I decided to leave once the owner yelled through the back to the young lady that she had two weddings tomorrow and she could not accommodate my request for customization on the icing. Being from the south, my now husband and I were looking for a particular flavor of cake, white velvet, and it turned out to be almost impossible to find in LA. If you're looking for your wedding cake, do not go anywhere else! Frost It did a phenomenal job! They brought my vision to life and I was so incredibly happy with the results! I requested a fairly unique cake. Three tier, ombre, semi-naked, with chocolate drizzled all over with flowers cascading down. When we had our tasting, it was so difficult to choose because everything tasted so good! We finally decided on chocolate with raspberry mousse filling, red velvet with cream cheese filling, and white velvet with salted caramel filling. It was exquisite! So many of our guests told us how delicious the cake was, they went back for seconds! I couldn't be happier and Lesley was so great and helpful along the way! Thank you soooo much!!! We chose Frost It for our wedding cake and desserts and couldn't be happier. Getting the right cake for the wedding was very important to me and I really wanted to get cakes that were delicious, moist, and beautiful! Frost It checked all of these boxes for me during the tasting and also the day of the wedding. We saved one of the layers and ate it for breakfast two days in a row. My experience: I went in the other day to grab some cupcakes to eat after dinner that night. When I walked in there was nobody in the front of the store. The door beeped twice and I overheard a man and women in the back asking each other "was that the door..." I waited a moment and out popped the owner (I think). She was covered in what looked to be cake batter all over her apron and a little above her eyebrow. She was really nice and she told me about all their flavors and her favorites (I asked). I picked four cupcakes ($14) and headed home. The cupcakes I ordered: Coconut - cake flavor good but was dried out Butterscotch - strong flavor, dense cake, and very dry Mud pie - delicious and moist Strawberry - ok flavor, not as sweet as I would like but it was moist so no big complaints I want this place to do well so I will give them some time to work things out and then try it again. Before I go any further I want you to know my fiance hates icing. He never eats it on anything. I am always the one to eat his. First time I tried their samples were at a bridal show in Moorpark. They had a stand with a very elegant display and four different samples to choose from. I was immediately drawn to some of the display cakes. They were stunning and unique. My fiance tried their vanilla while I tried their red velvet. I wish I recorded him tasting that sample. He looks so hesitant to try the icing with the cake but man, as soon as he did, his face lit up. He LOVED it. I still can't believe he likes their icing, and only their icing so far. Second time we tried it we went into their store in Thousand Oaks to set up a consultation for cake tasting and prices. During that time we saw some of their cupcakes out... We ended up getting six. The server was very friendly and seemed very warm hearted. I posted a picture of the cupcakes we got. All of them were amazing! My favorite two were the Very Strawberry (Strawberry cake topped with strawberry buttercream) and Cinnamon Roll (Cinnamon swirled cake topped with glaze and cream cheese frosting sprinkled with cinnamon). We also got Vanilla Bean (Vanilla Bean cake topped with vanilla bean buttercream and a fondant flower), Happy Cake (Classic white cake baked with confetti sprinkles topped with tinted vanilla buttercream and confetti sprinkles), Chocolate Chip Cheesecake (Devils food cake filled with cream cheese mousse, topped with cream cheese buttercream and mini chocolate chips), and Red Velvet (Southern red velvet cake topped with cream cheese buttercream and a fondant flower). We spent $20.50 for these cupcakes and they are well worth it! The only one I was not that big of a fan of was the Chocolate Chip Cheesecake. It was to chocolaty for me. But if you love chocolate, get this one! Third time we went was the very next day to get six more cupcakes... Two of them being the cinnamon roll, and one the strawberry. We also got Chocolate, Boston Cream, and the Caramel Banana (Fresh banana cake filled with caramel topped with caramel buttercream, caramel drizzle and a banana chip). I wasn't that big of a fan of the Boston Cream. The vanilla pudding inside made it taste off for me. We love this place though! This last time we went was for the consultation last night to taste more options for cakes and see how much our cake would be if we decide to go with them. We got to sample a lot of different types on their cake flavors and man were they great! The consultation was very personal and we felt like they really wanted to bring out cake to life. My only issue was the cake we have in mind is over $1000 here when we have been offered the same cake for around $600 and that company's cake tastes just as good... It made me feel that since I am having my wedding at a nice Venue and they know the venue, they wanted to charge me more... The consultant seemed to get excited when she knew the venue... But she was still super kind and I had a great appointment! read more

Loved working with Frost It! They were amazing. I sent Lesley A LOT of pictures of what I wanted my dessert table to look like, and they pulled off something better than I could have imagined. And the desserts were fantastic (Macaroons and Brownie Bites were my favorite, and my husband loved the mini pies). They cake was great, and looked stunning.
