Always perfectly cooked and it has a delicious compound butter on top. My husband loves their whiskey drinks (namely the smoked manhattan and the brown butter one). My family and I visited for Father's Day brunch and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. We've dined here several times before and have always enjoyed the food and service, which is why this visit stood out so much. We were celebrating with my husband, our two young children, and my in-laws, so we were looking forward to a special brunch together. Our server, Shami, did not make us feel welcomed from the start. There was no introduction, greeting, or acknowledgment that it was Father's Day. The interaction felt very rushed and impersonal. When ordering mimosas, she brought the champagne to the table and asked whether we wanted to serve ourselves or have her do it, which felt unusual and left us unsure of what was expected. Throughout the meal, we consistently thanked her when food and drinks were brought out, but our comments were met with silence. There was little to no engagement, warmth, or hospitality during the service. While we understand everyone can have an off day, the overall experience felt cold and inattentive, especially for a special occasion. The food was good, and because we've had positive experiences here in the past, we're hopeful this was an isolated incident. Do you like dark wood and bar chairs with backs and a nice cocktail list? If so - you'll love this place. Doesn't look like much from the outside but it's a lovely gem. This was our first time here and it won't be our last. We were greeted and seated quickly. We chose to eat in the lounge area. It has tall chairs at the bar and one long booth with a few tables and tall chairs on the opposite side. There are black curtains on the windows, blocking the view of the parking lot and creating a nicer, more private ambiance. The bartender was very knowledgeable and fun. He was also our waiter. They had other people bring our food out. We had the bread appetizer and it was very good. We took most of it to go and enjoyed it over the next couple days too. The burgers and fries were delicious. I was very impressed with this dining. My wife took me here for a birthday dinner after watching an episode of Chopped. Lindsey is one of the owners. She came out to greet us while eating. She is awesome to have met her. The server was watchful for our orders. I had flank steak rare. My wife had a double pork chop. My steak was so tender, perfectly cooked. The pork chop was perfectly cooked tender and so juicy. Bistro with a bar, I didn't see the bar area which was quite busy with a lot of hustle. The serving area became busier as the opening time is 3:00 we were there for a 5:00 dinner. By 5:30 it was starting to fill up. We first had the awesome charred broccoli long ago at their old location where we learned about harissa. I've made it myself. But this time I tasted no harissa. Not spicy at all. The kaarage chicken tasted like Indian spices. Not very Japanese at all. Did not taste any ginger like the menu states. My last drink I almost swallowed a very very small piece of glass which I gave to the bartender to show his colleagues. The drink was comped. The service was great 4 stars. We booked a reservation through Resy, excited to try a local upscale spot--and overall, LJ's Bistro and Bar delivered. The ambiance strikes a great balance between refined and welcoming. One small quirk: every time the front door opened, a flood of light broke the cozy vibe. A slightly taller entry wall or divider could really help preserve the atmosphere. On to the food: the filet mignon was fantastic--tender, well-seasoned, and paired nicely with mashed potatoes and carrots that didn't feel like an afterthought. The pork chop was beautifully plated, but thick cuts can be tricky, and this one leaned a bit dry. That said, the kale slaw on the side helped cut through and brought some brightness. The potatoes were excellent across the board. We also appreciated the attention given to the kids' meal--the steak was a legit portion and thoughtfully prepared, not just an afterthought. Came here for brunch on a friend's recommendation. The spicy bacon bloody mary was OK. I ordered the chicken fried ribeye and it was amazing. I'm used to the usual chicken fried steaks you get at most breakfast joints and typically prefer those. I was hesitant about ordering it because I've had "premium" fried steaks before and they tend to disappoint. Reviews said it was good and I gave it a try. I was not disappointed. Cooked to perfection, very tender, and the breading stayed on better than I expected. Gravy was rich with big chunks of fancy sausage. Service was prompt, and we didn't even need to ask for anything. It barely felt like we waited at all for food to come out. The decorations of this place felt intentional. Not like they just bought stuff at the restaurant store and added some personal flair. I have heard a lot of good things about LJs and it definitely delivered. Atmosphere is elevated and approachable. Perfect for a date night, didn't feel kid friendly. Food was fast and fresh. Karaage and steak skewers were very flavorful. I love a good wedge salad and this checked all the boxes- blue cheese, homemade dressing, crisp lettuce and a nice surprise was the crispy onions. What a pleasant surprise. We moved to Lake Stevens recently and have been trying various restaurants. "Meh" has been our most common sentiment after each one. Then we dined at LJ's Bistro & Bar. Quality, creative dishes. Great service (thanks Tori!) surprising ambiance. Definitely try the Asparagus Toast appetizer. Double cut pork chop and the filet were both good choices. Server was very kind and attentive. Host needs refining, to put it mildly. I think they have new and very inexperienced cooks. Brussels were different this time. Very overly deep fried, oily and drenched in the chimichurri sauce. They remade with sauce on the side but they were still inedible as they were just thrown in the deep frier too long, were burnt and were overly greasy. On previous visits they'd been nicely seared and charred and perfectly seasoned. The fries were also overly fried and burnt. The pork chop was great but not mind blowing as on previous visits and it's also shrunk substantially. The greens with the pork chop were just ok. The pasta dish was ok but not anything we'd order again. It all felt pretty mid to pretty disappointing. Ambiance is nice but it'd be better to seat people spaced apart from other tables when the dining room is so open not right next to each other. The place didn't fill up so we didn't understand the host's decision to seat the way she did. All around an awkward visit. read more

We heard LJ's recently brought back happy hour after quite a few years of not having a happy hour. So we stopped in and ordered strictly off their happy hour at 3:30. We ordered the wedge salad, which was a very impressive presentation, the crispy chicken sandwich which my husband said he could eat every three days, the pokey nachos, which was a generous amount of tuna on top of wonton chips (so good) & the steak bite skewer (so tender. We both agreed it was the best happy hour we've ever been to as the presentation and the food did not seem like they scrimped at all. The lemon drops are eight dollars and those were very good. Yet again, tonight his recommendation was spot on. Duck Confit with farro-based risotto and a toum. OMG amazing. And huge portion as two duck legs. Started with the most delicious Brussels sprouts (chimichurri and Mama Lils peppers!...super nice change from the also-yummy-but-can-get-anywhere balsamic Brussels sprouts) and Burrata with my fave delicata squash. Super delish. The Burrata won over the hubs but I refuse to make a choice between the two. Cocktails were en pointe as always...a couple RDMPs, a Smoked Manhattan and a Smoked Old Fashioned (perfection) and capped the night off with a couple Goodnight Beautifuls. Rough. We've tried and tried to like this place as there truly aren't many interesting restaurants in this area. It's fallen flat each time we dine here. This time we tried takeout, the wedge salad came with a creamy dill dressing that after having everyone try we concluded is the sad sister to mayonnaise (no dill flavor and it had very greasy and heavy consistency) the salad was a 90/10 ratio of lettuce to anything else which would be more tolerable had the dressing been interesting or flavorful. We added chicken ... it came in a foil wad on the side with no seasoning and not cut l, so that was weird and disappointing. The burrata was unfortunately also a bit of a bummer. The greens on the side were an intense amount of basil and one strawberry on its last leg cut into thirds. The crostini was more air than bread and couldn't bear the weight of the burrata. The kids burger was fine, my two year old approved. The kids steak was ordered medium and came rare at best which is great for an adult but less so for a child. Overall I'm sad to say that after a few years and many failed attempts this spot is great for a drink with a friend and a plate of fries for the table, but anything more just feels like a let down. read more

I don't live in this area, but I've heard good things about this restaurant, so I was excited to try it. I came here for brunch. Maybe I came on an off day? My waffle was good but my chicken thigh was burnt like charcoal. I thought maybe the black part was burnt chili oil and scraped a lot of it off after trying to eat it. The chicken meat itself was like rubber. I can't believe they allowed it to leave the kitchen looking like that. Service was okay - Staff was polite but no one checked on us after bringing the food and my friend had to flag someone for a coffee refill. I should have sent my dish back but I kept thinking I would find something good under the ashes. I ate what I could and mentioned the burnt chicken to the woman clearing our dishes so she could advise the kitchen. (The plate was still full of large burnt black pieces when she collected it.) She didn't say anything, but I noticed that a friends and family discount (10% or 15%) was applied and we didn't get charged for beverages, which was nice. After leaving, I was still hungry and had to get something else to eat. read more
