From this central community developed the Shakers' ideals of equality of labor, gender, and race, as well as communal property, freedom and pacifism. The Shaker Museum and Library was founded in 1950 by John S. Williams, Sr. on the site of his Old Chatham farm. In 2004, the Museum acquired the North Family Mount Lebanon site, consisting of 30 acres and 10 extant Shaker buildings, plus the iconic Mount Lebanon Meetinghouse. Operations were consolidated to the Mount Lebanon site in 2009. This Village is not actively open for tourism but you can see the remaining buildings for no fee from the outside. Many of the buildings are a private High School. We enjoyed finding this after touring Hancock Shaker Village.

You can see and hear everything perfectly. The young actors and actresses are so passionate about their work. We love watching them perform. A docent by the entrance is there to tell you about it's construction and answer questions. We headed to the annex to see the animals: baby goats, lambs, piglets and chicks! The Discovery Barn is the place to be for the kids. They have a 'cow' mock-up that you can 'milk'. There are plenty of arts and craft projects there and a staff member to answer any questions. Although not a kid, I did give the cow a try and the staff member answered a bunch of questions about the museum and the local area. The Brick Dwelling has *so much* information! you could spend a lot of time in there reading about the lives of the Quakers. They also have a broom making shop, butter making shop, furniture shop, blacksmith, dorms for non-Quaker workers and so much more. We were given a map of the property with our admission and a list of events happening on site during the day of our visit. Definitely make a plan to see the demonstrations. A very interesting day.

I'd actually say that's one of the things the space lacks, is clear staffing. Everyone I've met so far has been friendly, and helpful. Very nice. The location is really central. Parking is the only real pain, weekends are pretty convenient. Lots of nearby food and beverage. Nibble moved in right next door. It's a great space.

Instead of adhering to the acceptance/denial notification date she originally stated in the specifications, the gallery director switched to a Hollywood style maneuver and told me I was, "shortlisted", with a NEW notification date a month away, thus rendering my artworks in limbo and unavailable for exhibition elsewhere. I contacted Ms. Soon and demanded a refund. After her sad attempt at convincing me that by having shortlisted several of my pieces she had indeed fulfilled her obligation of timely notification, I contacted my credit card company. Bank of America has no tolerance for this type of manipulation of terms and upon their investigation granted my full refund.
