There are several places to fulfill your Mexican food cravings in Lexington, NE. Most are very accessible and easy to get to, right on the main drag into and out of town. I have been to them all, several times in fact and I am here to tell you that none of them compare to Lo Mejor De Michoacan. None of them come close in fact. Do not let the outside fool you, do not let the tiny awkward parking lot fool you. It is what's inside that sets this small "Mom & Pop shop" apart. The first thing that I notice each time is how good it smells as soon as the door opens. It smells good, it smells like pork, and steak and fresh tortillas too. It is also very clean. It seems to me that this is a small family ran business, the same people greet me each time and are always super warm and welcoming. It is obvious they care and want to give you good service along with delicious food. I have taken my food to go and I have also sat down and I will say that there isn't any difference in the portion or the quality of the food. I have a hard time getting past the Carnitas each time I have been. The pork is tender and it tastes delicious consistently. The beans aren't from a can, I am willing to bet that the food here is all homemade. It tastes far too good to be from a can or a package. The tortillas are not warm, they are HOT when they get to your table, they taste so good. In my opinion they are the very best in town. The service is great too, the folks here keep the food coming and the drinks are always full, they are very polite and make your you want to come back again. If you are on the interstate looking for a place to eat, do yourself a favor, cruise into town go past the fast food and the other restaurants. It will be worth it. First place I ate in Lexington - and finally made it back tonight. The quesabirria tacos were excellent! Service was great as well.

Passing through and noticed that there were a lot of Mexican restaurants in the town of Lexington NE. I'm all for a little Mexican so we stopped for lunch. I had the Chile relleno which to me defines good Mexican. One in an order and I asked for all beans no rice. The relleno was very good, filled with a cheese combo that included cojito which gave it an interesting umami. The beans were homemade half refried half whole beans. Very good. The chips and salsa were also good. Hubs had the 3 taco plate (carnitas, asada and lengua) and he said they were all amazing. Salsa on them was fresh and tasty. Being from LA CA I'm picky about my Mexican and this was very passable. Small unassuming place you'd drive right by if you were looking. Look. It's worth it. The food at this restaurant is fantastic! I ordered garlic shrimp which was not on the menu but they were happy to make it at my request. This is my go to dish whenever I visit a Mexican restaurant for the first time. I have to say, hands-down, that this was one of the very best versions of that dish I have ever eaten. Don't miss out on this hidden gem! Super tucked away but the food and service was top notch. Worth a little detour from I-80. Everything was super fresh and vegetarian friendly. Passing through Nebraska on our way from Orlando, FL to Seattle, WA... TBH all we expected from Nebraska is meat-potato and burger places. But wow, this has been the best Mexican food I have eaten in a loooong time. Miguel was our waiter, and he was super sweet and kind. The food was AMAZING!! The salsa was the perfect level of spicy, and the fish was just plain... umami (and I never use that word ). My husband never finishes his meals BUT HE ATE THE WHOLE DAMN BURRITO!!! One of the most important things to me at a Mexican restaurant is the chips and salsa. And this place did not disappoint. The chips are crispy and fresh not oily and the salsa was delicious. This was an excellent experience. On my way to Custer State Park, and we stopped here for the night. Our first choice for a meal was closed, so we ended up here. What a break. The food was excellent. I had the smothered burrito with Lengua, and it was as good as I have ever eaten. My wife had the sopas with Lengua, and they were also delicious. Friendly service. Good prices. Be patient, as like everyone, staffing is a challenge, but make no mistake, this is as good a meal as I have had in a while. People from Texas, me, are haughty about Mexican food. This was delicious. Please, Food Network. Have me on your "Best Thing I Ever Ate", and make it about Mexican food. Because, boy, do I have a place for you. We were driving on a cross-country road trip, and craving something other than burgers or fast-food. My husband searched "Mexican food", and miraculously found this off the road joint in what must be the old town of Lexington. This unassuming place is outside of the little main street, with a small parking lot and not a whole lot to it, except for a little sign. We couldn't eat there, because we had our dog, and there was no outdoor seating, so we decided to drive a little further and eat at the next Rest Area. He came out with a few containers, not sure what he ordered as he knows what I generally like, so I said "order whatever". Boy, was I glad I did. After the next two rest stops were "closed" (UGH!), even though they were open on the other side of the highway, we were too hungry to wait for the next rest stop in 65789 miles or whatever, so we stopped at a gas station. There were no tables, so we got out of our car, put the take out containers on our trunk, and dived in. Our mouths burst with happiness as we chowed down on carne asada and steak tacos, wrapped in homemade tortillas, with onions, cilantro, and homemade salsa. The rice and beans weren't just a sad side addition: They were fluffy, light, and full of flavor. The guacamole was fresh and chunky, and the chips light and salty. My only regret? This is a quaint little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. It seems to be run by a family. The food was good enough for us as we were passing through. You seat yourself, but there is a waiter whom you order from. There is a condiment bar in the middle of the restaurant that you are able to get up and use, kind of an odd concept when you have a waiter. The food was authentic and good. read more

Tucked away in the middle of nowhere Nebraska is one of the best Mexican restaurants I've been to in a while. The place is tiny and a little off the main highway, but well worth the drive. I had the carnitas and they were so well cooked and seasoned that I couldn't stop eating. I once read something that said, "I want the food to be so good that when you finish your last bite...you wish you had just one more bite." that's what this place is like. We ordered 3 meals including burrito, gorditas and Fleuto de polle. Food was very good and authentic. Atmosphere was simple but very clean. Service was excellent. We were traveling through and very happy that we stopped here to eat. I prefer supporting the local restaurants as food is usually better than chains. The food is fresh and delivered quickly after we ordered. Definitely made to order. iPhone directions were wrong but wasn't hard to find it located on the corner. After spending a great deal of my life in Nebraska then the California eating Mexican food for the most part consisted of taco John or some other variance. However on this occasion my wife and I were traveling back through Nebraska and stopped here for dinner. A little hard to find, however we were blown away by the authenticity of the food.We have really good Mexican food here in So Cal however this was as good if not better than we have here. I highly recommend this to travelers or locals, support these gems of small businesses.
